With the Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake, Nintendo is once again using its Zelda Notes feature via the Nintendo Switch app for mobile.

While I wasn't able to access and test out the app's features during the review period, I've been dabbling quite a bit since Nintendo pushed it live for launch. And y'know what? It's fine.

Just like Zelda Notes for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, there's nothing here that I'd deem essential to the core experience, but if you're after some harmless supplemental material, it does the job.

My favourite feature? Gossip Quests. Provided you've activated Zelda Notes within Ocarina of Time's settings, you can link your phone directly to the software to partake in a little game to hunt down specific locations depicted in photos. Doing so will earn you points, which you can eventually spend on new ocarina songs.

To be clear, these ocarina songs won't unlock anything in-game, but you can access a playable ocarina in the app and learn the songs yourself, tapping and holding the on-screen holes to perform a variety of tunes.

It's surprisingly tricky, and in an amusing turn of events, pressing three holes at once also acted as a screenshot tool for my phone, so I had to go ahead and delete that function in my phone settings.

You can also come up with your own, original songs and share them via QR code. I haven't come up with anything I'd deem even remotely enjoyable for anyone else, but it's a cool little feature. [For the authentic Ocarina experience circa 1998, I need The Simpsons theme, stat! - Ed.]

Once unlocked in the game, you can also view enemies from the Hall of Fallen Foes. The app also provides a wealth of stats, including daily records, and you can also consult maps if you're gunning for 100% completion and test your Ocarina of Time knowledge with quizzes.

Again, it's fine. There are features, like the Gossip Quests, that would have been awesome had they been included in the game itself in some way, and we'd recommend at least giving it a go if you're looking to extend your playtime. (Fingers crossed for a Master Quest update!)
