Re: Fitness Boxing 3's 1.3.0 Update Adds New Instructor & Workouts, Here Are The Patch Notes

TrixieSparkle

Great news!

I've spent most of my time in this series with Fitness Boxing 2 and also the Hatsune Miku version (which is basically Fitness Boxing 2.5 in terms of engine and features), but picked up Fitness Boxing 3 earlier this month, both for myself and a second copy as a gift for the holidays, as my sister expressed interest in fitness games recently.

Maybe I'll check out the tai chi this weekend and see what that's like.

Re: PSA: Can't Find Your Old Switch To Transfer Games Via Virtual Card? There's An Easier Way

TrixieSparkle

While I briefly experimented with it and lended out a game one time to a family member, it didn't take long for me to turn off the virtual card system and turn the primary/secondary system back on. It's not perfect, but it's still better than the digital card system.

As it stands, my Switch 1 is still the primary, and the Switch 2 is the secondary. Anything able to be played on Switch 1, is fully locked in as the Switch 1 being the offline-compatible one.

Of course, digital cards is one of those "even if you turn it off, it's actually still on in the background" features, and what system the digital card will be paired with initially is dependent on where you buy it, not what system is currently set as the primary, annoyingly (even while the feature is "turned off"). So now I have the extra shopping step of going out of my way to buy any Switch 1 compatible games/DLC on the Switch 1 first, even if I intend to play them on the Switch 2, so if I ever toggle those settings, things will be in the desired place.

And opting to stick with the primary/secondary system, there's the additional dumbness that Switch 2 exclusive games are still treated as being on a secondary system when a Switch 1 is the primary. Even though it's clearly the only Switch 2 I'm using.

I know the reason why they didn't is "money", but Nintendo really should've let one Switch 1 and one Switch 2 be designated as primary systems for an account. One of my biggest annoyances with the Switch 2 has been I feel like I'm being punished for daring to own more than one Nintendo console.

Re: Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma Latest Update Now Live, Here's What's Included

TrixieSparkle

I really need to jump back into Guardians of Azuma at some point. I played pretty far into it (past what I shall refer to as the game's "half-way point"), but then life happened, and my focus shifted to other things.

It's nice that there's been a fair amount of QoL updates between when I stopped and now! So it will be an even smoother experience when I jump back in. This isn't a situation where the game felt incomplete to begin with (something that can't be said about a lot of games, so I fully understand the general sentiment some people have in such post-launch update matters), so I'm not bothered about free updates/adjustments being made post-launch in response to user feedback, in this particular case, despite having purchased the game physically.

Re: Feature: Who Is Devon Pritchard? - Meet The Next NOA President Stepping Into Bowser's Boots

TrixieSparkle

Am I missing something, or is establishing Satoru Shibata as the CEO of Nintendo of America the first time Nintendo has had a formal CEO for Nintendo of America since the death of Iwata? And if so, exactly who has been operating the NoA CEO level decisions since then and now? Was Doug Bowser effectively the "acting CEO of NoA" between then and now, during his role as President?

Also, in terms of company hierarchy, that's also the more relevant shifting of positions than Devon Pritchard coming into the picture as President (who will operate below that), so it's weird the NintendoLife article literally does not mention him, not even by name, let alone a picture, for the announcement of the shifting of employees.

He also has an established history of making stuff with "personality", so maybe the fun Nintendo will make a come back:

Re: Nintendo Direct September 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

TrixieSparkle

They announced a concrete release date for Metroid Prime 4, so I'm happy.

The SECOND biggest direct announcement for me wasn't even in the English Direct broadcast, for some bizarre reason, even though it's coming out in the west and in English in 2026.

Mega Man Star Force: Legacy Collection!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0AeGb_NfP1k&themeRefresh=1

7/10 for the western Direct, but taking into account the eastern Direct: 9/10!

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Finally Gets A Release Date, Open World Confirmed

TrixieSparkle

Glad there's a release date, AND it's still in 2025!

Possibly the only "full price" game I'll be buying in the remainder of this year. Been taking advantage of Fanatical prices on Steam releases recently, which stretches the game budget a LOT further.

Also, I'd already locked in a pre-order for the Prime 1-3 art book that they also mentioned in this trailer a while ago. Based on what I've seen of it, it looks really nice. It's nice that the trailer mentioned it, as it might have been flying under people's radar if they aren't following everything Metroid. Kind of confused that this article doesn't mention it. Personally, I'm more interested in art books than amiibo.

The art book costs $50 on Amazon, is slated to ship October 28, and is still available for pre-order, if anyone is wondering where to get it.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct September Predictions - What Do You Hope To See?

TrixieSparkle

Bring in all the Metroid, please. Metroid Prime 4 release date confirmation. Whether it's 2025 still or not, just give a concrete date, please. Extra hopium: maybe a Metroid Prime 2 and 3 Remastered announcement/drop?

Anything else would just be a nice bonus. Although I'd still like to see the HD Zelda games from Wii U come to the Switch family. Ideally Switch 2 AND 1, but I'll take either at this point.

Re: More Switch Games Have Received Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes

TrixieSparkle

Touhou Genso Wanderer is another title that had been in the original known incompatibility list, but seems to be working now! Not sure if it was this patch specifically that fixed it, but it was still crashing on startup a month or so ago.

That was a sorely missed title that I've been re-checking with every update that might fix things.

Re: iFixit Performs A Full Teardown Of Nintendo's "P**s-Poor" Pro Controller

TrixieSparkle

I have some of the official battery grips for the Switch 1 joycons. They're great for enhancing exercise games like Fitness Boxing!

I ended up needing to buy a new set at one point, though, because I attempted to replace a damaged wrist strap, and it for some reason required significant disassembly to access or replace the area where the strap attaches to the device. I was doing it without any disassembly instructions.

Things did not end well for that battery grip.

I have a Pro 2 controller. Excessive disassembly steps aside, it's good to know iFixIt has an example of taking the Pro 2 controller apart! As long as there's a video example for me to follow so I'm not doing things blind, repairs tend to not end in tragedy.

Re: PSA: You Might Want To Be Careful Buying Pre-Owned Switch 1 Games For Your Switch 2

TrixieSparkle

I remember watching a video of someone outlining and warning about the possibility bans such as this could be carried out last year, and how/why (frankly, there's no way to actually know if a used game's ROM was backed up, as a used game buyer), where it was also potentially relevant on the Switch 1. But there was, at the time, no known cases of someone actually being banned in the used game scenario, it was hypothetical and just a general warning. It made me a lot more hesitant to buy used Switch games on eBay or from places like GameStop, though.

Guess there's now actual documented examples of people being banned for buying used Switch games, and then needing to go through the "guilty until proven innocent" circus, even if there is a "path to redemption" if you have the right paperwork. Although it is strange this example was unbanned, where not that long ago there were stories of people unknowingly buying banned systems rather than compromised carts, and Nintendo informed the buyer, "Well, yeah, we see the receipts, but no. Sucks to be you!"

Re: Video: Which Original Switch Accessories Won't Work On Switch 2?

TrixieSparkle

Just to add more data to this list, the excellent Mobapad M6 HD joycons are also able to work with the Switch 2 (albeit not attached, of course), after receiving a firmware update. Kudos to Mobapad for continuing to support their products!

The process of updating their firmware seems to require access to both a Switch 1 and their Android app, however (how I did it via following their video instructions, anyway).

I ended up buying their charge grip for the joycons to more or less convert them into a proper Pro controller when used with a Switch 2 (previously, I only ever used them attached directly to the Switch 1).

Re: Video: Right, We Need To Talk About GameChat On Switch 2

TrixieSparkle

I re-mapped the GameChat button to be a screenshot button, instead, in the Switch 2 system settings.

I did this while using one of the joy con wheels and pressing it in error when I wanted to take a screenshot of the "Congratulations" screen, but it was not the correct joy con for said task. I frequently take screenshots when playing games, it's a timeline of sorts for me to look back on.

At least now both joy con have access to a screenshot button, so...there's that!

Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"

TrixieSparkle

@Zeebor15

Anecdotal, but I am currently considering the Switch 1 limited edition of Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma coming out tomorrow and to then get the Switch 2 DLC upgrade, while I originally planned to pick up the Switch 2 version a few weeks from now, after some of my Best Buy membership points are available from having bought the Switch 2 and accessories.

While checking available stock at some local branches for the Switch 2 version's current situation (Best Buy, etc.), the Switch 2 version is sold out at the closest locations, and the much larger second-closest Best Buy only has 1 copy remaining in stock. Otherwise, I would need to have it shipped to me from distant lands, and the earliest local pick-up would be several weeks from now, if I placed an order immediately at my preferred store.

So they are at bare minimum having stores sell out of the allocated stock within the launch month. I'd say they're doing as expected/planned, if nothing else. Might make my decision to grab the limited edition instead easier, if there will potentially be extra hoops to jump through to get the physical Switch 2 version a few weeks down the line.

Re: Gallery: Here's What You Get In The 'Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma' Limited Edition

TrixieSparkle

Hmmmmmm.

I'd been planning on getting the Switch 2 version a couple weeks from now in one way or another, especially since that will also work on Switch 1, so not much of a sacrifice. Would also be my first physical Switch 2 game, and I'd like to support their being one of the only on-card publishers for the Switch 2 right now.

But, that IS a nice looking physical art book. Although the digital deluxe DLC presumably includes all the same contents, if I just want to browse it. Although the fan looks pretty nice, too.

Looks like these limited editions hit store shelves tomorrow here in the U.S. (Best Buy pre-orders are still up), so there's "some" time to think.

Re: PSA: Splatoon 3 On Switch Has Made Some Cuts To Keep Pace With Switch 2

TrixieSparkle

@countzero

If that's the concern, the Switch 1 supports USB mouse controls. Some Switch 1 games which included the ability to use a mouse include:

Tactics Ogre: Reborn
Doom 1 and 2
FUZE4
Hypnospace Outlaw
Factorio
Game Builder Garage
Quake
Undertale
Wargroove

The ability to use a mouse in Splatoon 2/3 could be added for Switch 1 users, if they felt inclined to do so. It's not a hardware limitation.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - An Elegant But Nonessential GameChat Companion

TrixieSparkle

I got one for the CameraPlay functionality, I have zero intention of using it for GameChat. Hoping a few more games will make use of it in the future, rather than just Welcome Tour and Mario Party Jamboree, but I guess we'll see.

It also works as a PC web cam if desired, and I didn't have any web cams on hand that would be USB-C compatible without using an adapter, so it's another tool in the toolbox, so to speak.

Re: Switch 2 Is Officially The "Fastest-Selling Nintendo Hardware" Ever In The US

TrixieSparkle

Glad to see it doing so well right out of the gate, on basically all fronts!

It should help ensure a strong showing of support from third parties across the entire generation.

Hopefully the availability of larger/cheaper Micro SD Express cards follows suit. I'm getting by with the internal 256GB and a 256GB card for now, leaving most things on the Switch 1, but it would be nice to have more breathing room.

Re: Disgaea 7 Complete Is Launching Exclusively On Switch 2 In The West

TrixieSparkle

I have the Switch 1 version, and Disgaea 7 has been sitting on my "try it out on the Switch 2 sooner or later" list. Don't remember how much of the DLC I have, as I didn't play very far into it, but it'd be pretty nice if Switch 2 enhancements trickled into the Switch 1 versions in some way or another as part of this release.

Re: Random: Ouch! Switch 2 Owners Are Feeling The Pinch With The New Joy-Con

TrixieSparkle

There WAS a way to prevent this. They already need to use a leverage system to detach them, the opposite could have also been done in some way (a "deploy magnet" mechanism; whether turning the magnets on electronically after two points touch, or removing a barrier after sliding or pressing something, whichever would have been more appropriate).

Not gonna lie, the distance from the system where the magnet takes hold caught me off guard the first time, and I got pinched when unboxing the system, before even turning it on. I did know the system used magnetic connections for the joy cons (something somebody buying the system might not even know), but thought they would need to be activated in some way, rather than its being an always-on effect.

It is a "once you know this happens, it likely won't happen again" type situation, and it's not like it broke skin or anything, the joy con was easily removed, and just left an unpleasant sting for a couple minutes. But, my immediate thought after that was "yeah, this has definitely happened to a few people already".

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Switch 2's Screen? Because Some People Certainly Aren't

TrixieSparkle

It was one of my concerns, but I've found the screen looks great! I haven't done a true side-by-side comparison to compare color saturation (running the same games at the same time next to one another) despite being able to. But just playing games, I really can't see a difference, to be honest. This is compared to my experience in upgrading the Switch OG to the Switch OLED, where the difference was stark and noticeable, even without a side-by-side.

I do have a tempered glass screen protector on both my OLED Switch 1 and the Switch 2, which I find helps presentation in both cases.

Re: It's Official, Switch 2 Has Sold Over 3.5 Million Units Globally In Its First Four Days

TrixieSparkle

I bought one, and am enjoying it! 100%'d Welcome Tour, got 3-star gold cups on all the 150cc Mario Kart World tours, and have been trying out the Pokemon Violet enhancements and doing a play-through of Wind Waker on NSO.

Just like the Switch 1, I went to a midnight launch at the same store as before, and the Switch 2 experience was much different than the Switch 1 experience. Although I didn't have a pre-order this time.

For the Switch 1's midnight launch, funnily enough, the only people in line at this particular store were ones waiting to get their pre-orders ASAP. There wasn't a single not-preorder person at store opening. By comparison, the not-preorder people for the Switch 2 launch greatly outnumbered the pre-order pickups. There were also a lot more people, just in general.

Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - The Best Way To Play, But 'Zelda Notes' Sucks

TrixieSparkle

I've been mostly focused on Welcome Tour, Mario Kart World, and a play-through of Pokemon Violet (I previously played Scarlet on the Switch 1; the performance difference on the Switch 2 is like night and day, and am enjoying it much more), so I haven't delved too deeply into the enhanced BOTW.

But I did boot it up and run around BOTW for a bit to see how it looks, and the increased fluidity was very apparent on my TV! There's certainly a fresh BOTW play-through in my future. Also, I feel BOTW and TOTK will both greatly benefit from the extra buttons on the back on the Pro 2 controller or the joy con charging grip for customizing the controls, and I look forward to using the notes feature.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour - Surprising, Delightful, And You Know Where It Belongs

TrixieSparkle

I 100%'d it! Read every last tidbit, completed every quiz, played every game, etc. I know there's a few, hidden "third" medals for extra high scores for some mini games which I didn't get. But in terms of things they actively make visible, everything is done. Put in a fair number of hours, and overall enjoyed the experience.

There was a lot of interesting info, and a decent number of mini games. The game also successfully upsold me on some official accessories, notably the official charge grip (I previously did not know the joy con charge grip adds the extra back buttons, similarly to the Pro 2 controller).

However, I felt like there was a few too many mini games going "Hey, remember, the new Joy Cons work as a MOUSE!", and the mouse mini games put too much emphasis on speed for the medal rankings, rather than accuracy. Got into increasingly creative positions and had to constantly fiddle with the mouse sensitivity in the Switch 2 menu to succeed. I found no leg or desk space to be large enough for the speed they were asking for in relation to joy con mouse accuracy, and had the best results just getting onto the floor and using the floor as one huge mouse pad. It's not like using a mouse is a new thing for me, either, I work with computers all day, and had plenty of experience and mouse pads to choose from.

This experience also prompted me to acquire some cheap third party accessories to make the joy cons more traditionally mouse-shaped when being used as a mouse, for any future mouse-focused features. I found the joy cons awkward to hold for mouse usage in both official suggested configurations (the joy con by itself, with or without the strap).

Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'

TrixieSparkle

Between storage space issues and the fact I possess a surprisingly large number of titles in the "these games do not work on Switch 2 yet" compatibility PDF's (along with the fact I use apps like Crunchyroll, which also won't be available on the Switch 2), my Switch 1 won't be going anywhere, and will stay fully hooked up and set as my primary system.

Still looking forward to playing around with the Switch 2 later this week! I did decide to confirm details for the launch event later this week, and the place I'm planning to go for a midnight launch said that in-person stock will be plentiful for their midnight event (it's a Best Buy). So as long as I show up on time, I should theoretically be guaranteed to get one even without a pre-order.

Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?

TrixieSparkle

Despite previous statements I've made, I'll be attending a midnight launch for one. Got hit by another wave of non-gaming expenses, so kind of want to retaliate against life and go buy gaming stuff to "Switch" things up, and do something different. Already scheduled some time off, so I won't be sleep deprived. Last time I did any kind of midnight release was for the Switch 1, actually.

No pre-order, so no guarantee I'll get one. If I can get the Mario Kart World bundle, I'll get that. If not, I'll go home without any Switch 2 games, and just enjoy some enhanced Switch 1 stuff, like the enhanced BOTW, and play around with the Gamecube games, since I have an active family expansion pass. I'm interested in the new Rune Factory game, but will leave that door open as a birthday gift idea for family members.

While the system isn't pre-ordered, already have a third-party case and screen protectors, and I have a 256GB Micro SD Express, Switch 2 Pro controller, and spare power adapter already lined up.

Re: A Video Showing The Switch 2's Boot Screens Has Been Shared Online

TrixieSparkle

For the Switch 2 in particular, people being worried about spoilers on launch is REALLY weird.

After some brief research to make sure I'm not missing something, there is a total of 3 unique games on release ("Mario Kart World", "Fast Fusion", and "Survival Kids"), and 2 semi-unique games (the instruction manual, "Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour", and an HD remaster, "Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster").

The three unique games in question are two racing games, and a co-op survival game. Not really anything to spoil. Also, both Mario Kart World and the instruction manual have already been showcased by Nintendo themselves, so...

Anyone getting a launch Switch 2 seems to be primarily planning to pick up future, non-launch games, to play enhanced Switch 1 games, or to play third party titles that have been around for quite some time, but may not have been on the Switch 1.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Ghosting Switch 1 To Save Yourself For Switch 2?

TrixieSparkle

While I don't plan on picking up the Switch 2 any time soon, I've been doing the opposite of ghosting the Switch 1!

The new game sharing functionality between family group members they recently added was enough of an excuse to finally get around to setting one of those up, which in turn was as good a reason as any to get the NSO family expansion pass (as my sister is a big fan of some of the N64 offerings, and there will be at least three people using the plan, making it a decent deal).

Also been getting back in shape, with the Switch being my primary "gamified" exercise plan. Lots of Fitness Boxing 2 and Fitness Boxing with Hatsune Miku, and have also been picking up a bunch of other exercise-focused Switch games (some even cheaper used Wii exercise games in addition to that, but I digress).

Also been using the Switch Crunchyroll app more, instead of the Xbox One version of it, as watching 1 episode of a show when eating dinner is a nice segway into the evening exercise.

Even if I do get a Switch 2 in the future, the restrictive storage options make it a non-starter as a full replacement for the Switch 1, until Micro SD Express cards offer at least 2TB (I'm not the sort to card-swap when it comes to digital storage; I like to set it and forget it), and at a reasonable price. Still baffled why they didn't go with 2230 NVMe drives; they're faster, cheaper, available in larger sizes, and more widely available, with a negligible difference in power draw. Just to drive home how much cheaper and convenient it would be for users, a 2TB NVMe drive costs less than a 1TB Micro SD Express.

Re: Switch Users Are Getting Error Codes After Updating To Version 20.0.0

TrixieSparkle

I hadn't been considering the possibility, but I wonder if the update has something to do with why Muse Dash was crashing upon trying to access the song list (the first game I was trying to play after the update), effectively making the game unplayable.

While restarting the system and repeatedly rebooting the game didn't fix it, "fortunately", I was able to get the game working again by taking the nuclear option (deleting both the game and save data from the system, and then re-installing it with a new save file). I haven't been trying to play any other games since the update.

Re: Please Make Sure You're Wearing Trousers When Using Switch 2's Mouse Controls

TrixieSparkle

Fret not, those that despise pants and pants-like atrocities. We have technology!

https://www.amazon.com/Laptop-Harness-Portable-Wareable-Adjustable/dp/B0CPSTTG6T

(unironically might be a solution for people that want a large, flat surface directly in front of them and don't want to hunch over a table or desk of some sort; maybe not this one specifically, but a comparable option, there's quite a few things like this)

Re: Which Nintendo Switch Games Aren't Fully Compatible With Switch 2?

TrixieSparkle

It's nice they have such a detailed list of what doesn't work, and are actively looking into the issues. Hopefully most of the list is compatible before launch arrives.

Even PS2 fat vs slim and Xbox 360 OG vs slim, and OG Gamecube vs Gamecube-on-Wii had compatibility issues here and there. Software is surprisingly easy to break, if it expects an incredibly specific set of hardware.

Re: Standard Micro SD Cards Won't Work On Nintendo Switch 2

TrixieSparkle

I've drawn attention in the past to the point that the Micro SD format was a major bottleneck for the Switch 1, so it makes sense that they'd seek out an alternative for the Switch 2.

...But the alternative was very obviously the widely available M.2 NVMe drives, not a new Micro SD format with effectively zero presence on the marketplace, and no large capacity sizes to speak of.

This alone ensured my not picking up the system at launch, even before getting into other things.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Officially Launches On 5th June 2025

TrixieSparkle

I was more excited and satisfied with last week's direct, to be honest, in terms of game announcements and new apps etc.

Switch 2 enhancements of BOTW is what interested me most in today's presentation. Which is to say...I think I can wait for a while before picking one up.

Good luck to those who are excited and want one on launch day. Hopefully the unannounced price is palatable, and scalpers are kept in check for pre-orders and release.

Re: Has The Xbox Switch 2 Rival Just Revealed Its True Form?

TrixieSparkle

I've been considering picking up a ROG Ally X for a while, to play games that need a bit more power than the Steam Deck offers, or are only compatible with Windows; I know it's possible to dual boot Windows onto the Deck with some finagling, but seemed like more a hassle than it's worth, compared to sticking to just the stock Steam OS.

I'd put a temporary hold on those plans for various reasons, though. If ROG has something new in the works that will potentially be a better gaming option than the Ally X, all the more reason to wait, I guess.

The Switch 2 will likely be my next "big" gaming electronics purchase, in the short term. Assuming the release date for that is in fact close. I guess we'll know for sure tomorrow!
