Re: Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 20 Today!

Suketoudara

@Pj1 This site always reminds me of the old Nintendo magazines, it has the same spirit. One of the reasons I love it so much, as well as the refreshingly friendly community, which is such a nice contrast to the toxicity of gaming social media. Happy birthday Nintendo Life, keep up the good work! 🥳

Re: Hiroshi Yamauchi Might Feel Envious Of Switch 2's Success, Says Miyamoto

Suketoudara

@nhSnork Yamauchi actually came up with the idea of the Nintendo DS!

@Spider-Kev Erm, DLC didn't exist when Yamauchi was president so I'm not sure he was "against all of this" and N64 games plus many SNES games cost a fortune under Yamauchi. Nintendo under him also successfully lobbied to make game rentals illegal in Japan and tried to do the same in the US.

And Iwata said he was against discounting games as he said it makes them look cheap and lacking in value. He made YouTubers pay Nintendo a fee for using their footage under the Creators programme. Most of the "generous" Wii U moves were desperation.as a result of it flopping.

A lot of looking at the past through rose tinted specs here.

Iwata was also Furukawa's friend and mentor BTW and probably wouldn't like his name being used to take shots at current day Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo Releases A Storefront App For Android And iOS

@Nintoz I wonder if they might be moving away from the Nintendo Direct format. I honestly wouldn't mind if they did and just announced things individually. It's better for keeping momentum and hype than endless silence and waiting I think. Just keep the Indie Showcase and Partner Directs, plus maybe the game specific ones we got for Mario Kart World, DK Bananza and Kirby Air Riders.

@rvcolem1 I wish they would just consolidate everything into one Nintendo app. Would honestly be a killer app that everyone would want if you could access music, calendar, eshop, play activity, news/updates and see if your friends were online in one place. And people would definitely be checking it a lot more regularly than they do the Nintendo Today! app I reckon.

Re: Nintendo Releases A Storefront App For Android And iOS

Why can't I see my 3DS play activity? I had one and have linked my account to my old Nintendo Network ID that I used with it a while back 🤔 Am I looking in the wrong place? I just see Switch/Switch 2 games. Or do I need to do something else? I don't have the console anymore.

Re: Nintendo Releases A Storefront App For Android And iOS

Suketoudara

Oh wow, you can see play activity for all games, not just the last top 20 and it's so detailed! You can hide games from it too. Push motifications when wishlist games go on sale is a nice feature

@1UP-HUSKY I don't know why they didn't put it on the Nintendo Switch app given we can already view friends activity on there 🤷🏻‍♂️ Oh well, am just glad we have it at last anyway

Re: Nintendo Music Updated With Animal Crossing's 3DS Soundtrack

Suketoudara

Is it me or the KK Slided Club LOL nightclub music is missing?! That was one of the best songs in the game! Have I just not found it? In the club LOL but I see only Shrunk joke music. :-/

@VoidofLight Which songs did you find too lively or too quiet? You know, I have a theory that the songs were set around working 9-5 with lunch at 12. If you think about it that way the choices fit 100%:

7am - getting ready for work
8am - travelling to work
9am - relief at arriving
12pm - lunch
1pm - post lunch, satisfied after meal
3pm - afternoon slump
4pm - anticipation of leaving
5pm - travelling home, work is over
6pm - evening begins

Etc etc

And yeah I know I've thought about it too much 😂 It's cause I was using the new real time hourly music feature on the Nintendo Music app at work and was surprised how well it fit perfectly!

But I can get why those synths might grate on some people. I don't mind them as they remind me of the synths in certain early 90s hip hop songs I have a nostalgia for, lol

Re: Nintendo Music Updated With Animal Crossing's 3DS Soundtrack

@batmanbud2

finally, a good Animal Crossing soundtrack.

I don't know why so many people dislike the New Horizons hourly music, I think it's far more catchy, funky and varied than all those, samey plinky plonky New Leaf songs that often lacked a discernible melody. Yeah it's a different genre to the other games but it fits the island theme better.

I also find the change of pace in the various New Horizons songs better fit the time of day. Like 4pm sounds like you're winding down for the end of the working day day, the amazing 5pm is the perfect "going home from work" music and 6pm feels like the start of the evening etc.

But the main issue I always had with New Leaf OST was the night music was far more beautiful and interesting that the day music, especially the stunning 11pm. Wild World was even worse for this. Loads of weaker and even more forgettable plinky plonky daytime tracks but stunning night music when I hardly played!

The OG GameCube Animal Crossing was always my favourite though. The catchinesss and strong day music of the New Horizons soundtrack plus a whole lot of quirkyness and weirdness. I have a feeling that a lot of people who dislike the New Horizons hourly music started on Wild World so were more accustomed to music that faded into the background.

Re: Retro Nintendo Games Are Returning To Animal Crossing (Sort Of)

Suketoudara

So Nintendo can get rid of the annoying borders here, but not on the main NSO >_< Been hoping for years they'd let us turn those things off and hide our profile icon!

@Waluigi451 It would've been cool if they had games not included with NSO. Imagine if you could buy a GBA and play Animal Crossing New Leaf on it😂

Re: Surprise! Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Arrives Next Year

Suketoudara

@Zeebor15 I have mixed feelings. Love the new Nintendo/lego themed items and the dream collaboration island seems like it could be fun with GameChat! Designing in mouse mode seems like it could be enjoyable too.

But the Kapp'n island seems like a total rehash of the Happy Home DLC where they could've brought back the minigame island or done something more unique and what have they done to Mr Resetti's firey personality?! No 60fps in the Switch 2 version is a bit of a bummer too. I know it's not essential in a game like this, but the added smoothness of the first GameCube Animal Crossing than ran at 60fps was really nice. I hope the next game has it.

Re: Two Classic Donkey Kong Icons May Soon Join Bananza As Unlockable Figures

@rjejr

$20 dlc to enjoy your $70 single player game that you just bought that you had to buy a new $450 console to play.

I agree the DLC is expensive which is one of the reasons I passed on it, as well as the concept not appealing, but you have to buy a console in order to play ANY game so not really sure why you're including that in the cost? Plus it's hardly like you're only paying that for one game, it's a long term investment.

This reminds me of those ridiculous videos from clickbait YouTubers saying Mario Kart World is a $500 game.

Re: Nintendo Updates Its Music App With Another DS Soundtrack

Suketoudara

@OrtadragoonX Much of the soundtrack isn't great but the first "bah! bah! music is iconic.

The weakest part of the game was the visuals/art direction for me. I see a lot of people now saying it looked fresh or good at the time but even when it first came out I remember thinking it looked like a Flash PC fan game and didn't have the charm of the older 2D titles. I loved the multiplayer stylus mini games though.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Sold 5.8 Million Copies Globally In Its First Week

Suketoudara

@Elektrogeist1287 I've blocked people with the "how dare you buy the game because it doesn't meet MY standards" mentality too. Hate on the game, fine, but hating on people who are enjoying it is gross. It's like because they're miserable about the state of Pokémon they want everyone else to be as miserable as they are.

Plus most of the time they're just raging about the graphics and not even the gameplay. They assume people have low standards when it's more like a lot of people genuinely don't care about the textures of the balconies etc or even notice these things as they're having too much fun - which is the whole point of videogames BTW

Re: Kirby Air Riders Direct #2: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate it?

Suketoudara

Outstanding! I went from a Maybe to a OMG, I can't wait! The sheer amount of content and longevity this is going to have is incredible.

As someone who's not a big online player I was really disappointed Sonic CrossWorlds didn't have the story/campaign mode of the previous Sonic racing games.

Really glad this hasn't gone in the same direction and Mario Kart World will have to up it's ante too, even though it's probably my most played solo Mario Kart since Mario Kart DS (mainly thanks to the 400 P Switch missions!)

I hope we see some healthy rivalry and get some good Mario Kart DLC. Back in the day Nintendo's president Yamauchi used to deliberately pit their developers against each other (I know HAL isn't technically a Nintendo developer) to increase competition. They would compete to win his approval and he'd say "so and so team has done this or that, why didn't you?" Iwata put a stop to it and fostered or more collaborative environment where the teams could work together.
