Re: Mario Kart World Devs Perfected Its Controls By Skating And Riding During Their Lunch Breaks

Suketoudara

@TKundNobody Yep and they sampler the audio of the go karts and put it in the game!

@Baker1000 No it doesn't. The handling is more loose, closer to Mario Kart Double Dash. I found it jarring how stiff Mario Kart 8 felt in comparison when I went back to it. World feels a lot more fluid and natural IMO.

And the charge jump isn't at all useless, you can ride up the walls with it and access railings to grind on? Have you played Mario Kart World?

Re: Nintendo Announces First Cast Members For The Legend Of Zelda Movie

As an aside I LOVE that Nintendo Today ONLY sends you random push notifications if it's a big story. I think this is the only app I know that uses this feature well. Pretty smart from Nintendo as it ensures people won't switch them off from beyond spammed and is the real draw of the app for them now I'd say. They can instantly reach everyone's phones with end big announcements even if they're not checking the app daily.

Re: Street Fighter 6's First Season 3 Character Arrives This August, Here's A Look

God I hate the voice acting and music in this game so much. Sagat with that gruff American truck driver sounding voice like almost all the other guys in it that doesn't suit him. Why not use someone from Thailand who can speak English but still has a Thai accent for the voice?

I probably will buy SF6 eventually regardless as I still enjoy the gameplay but the whole aesphetic has become charmless and westernised since SF4 and this one is the peak. Will instantly be changing all the bad voice to Japanese and using the music packs where I can (shame you can't change the god awful character select tune)

Anyway, rant over!

Re: Nintendo Announces 'Global Jam' Demo Event For Switch 2 Online Members

Suketoudara

@chefgon You'll need two Mario Paint mouse mats for this! The Welcome Tour UFOs minjngames reminded me a lot of the Mario Paint fly swatting game, I liked them a lot and sokd me in the mouse controls.

I do worry this one will be too exhausting to control to be fun and would prefer it was Switch Sports Wheelchair Basketball with Miis than this dark aesphetic but I'll keep an open mind and very happy there'll be a demo to try it out for myself instead of spending money on something I may or may not enjoy.

Re: Nintendo Has Seemingly Taken Further Steps To Combat 'eSlop' On Switch 2

Suketoudara

I'm glad, I hated having to shovel through so much endless crap on the eShop and it's embarrassing to see Hentai games constantly in the best sellers and frankly not appropriate considering kids use that store and don't need to learn that word.

I suspect this might be why Nintendo's been selective at handing out Switch 2 dev kits. They can keep that shovelware on Switch 1 so I can filter it out easily! Already the Switch 2 games are so much nicer to browse without all that junk. I would be happy with a more quality over quantity library.

@xcape1587 @Anachronism @Stormcloudlive

Yeah when I had Xbox GamePass and PS Plus I became totally overwhelmed by the amount of games on them and ended up just not appreciating them so much or even completing anything because as soon as I got stuck I ended up just moving on to another game instead of persevering. I also could never decide what to play next.

Virtual Console was okay, but because I had to pay for each game I'd only ever buy games I had nostalgia for. I feel like NSO strikes a really nice balance between the two models as I just play each game as it comes along and I've discovered so many gems like all the Treasure Mega Drive titles and Survival Kids that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Yeah I don't own them, but I don't necessarily want to play them for the rest of my life and I don't believe Nintendo are going to shut down NSO anyway. This will be their strategy going forward. A โ€œNetflixโ€ for their classic games. And if they ever did in decades to come there would be other ways to play these games if I ever wanted to go back to something.

Re: Anniversary: 10 Years After His Passing, Satoru Iwata's Thoughts Are More Relevant Than Ever

Suketoudara

@Misima I wouldn't go that far personally, I'd say it's more that they've reverted back to Yamauchi era Nintendo. Iwata really opened up the company and they're sorely missing an Iwata, Reggie or even the likes of Kit and Krysta to be that link between Nintendo and it's fans.

I don't really like how Shuntaro Furukawa will only ever talk to investors and has never even appeared in a Nintendo Direct (not even the Switch 2 one!) but with that said it's a bit of a misconception that he isn't a gamer which is something I see a lot.

I did a deep dive on him once (as I was intrigued by how elusive he was) and found he grew up playing NES/SNES and it was his love of Super Mario Kart on the SNES it inspired him to want to work for Nintendo. Found some interviews where he was talking about his favourite games and he mentioned his favourite Switch game was Golf Story, a niche Australian indie game and that his favourite series growing up was Nobunaga's Ambition! He's actually into relatively obscure titles so definitely knows his gaming. Made me wonder if he was responsible for all those SNES Nobunaga games coming to NSO recently.

@Anti-Matter I don't know, there was A LOT of mediocre Nintendo games released in the Iwata era like Paper Mario Sticker Star, Mario Party 10 and Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival or stuff like Star Fox Zero and Kid Icarus Rising that had horrible controls. Personally quality control is much better these days with the odd exception, but I really miss the charm of the console user interfaces back in those days and the fun old style directs etc

Re: Miyamoto Views Games As 'Products', Not 'Works Of Art', Says Ex-Nintendo Dev

Suketoudara

@The_Nintend_Pedant Ahh okay, can I ask what games you found particularly unrefined or less tasteful in their design?

You know, you reminded me of something. One of my favourite Nintendo games as a child was Pilotwings on the SNES which had a real classy vibe to it and I remember playing the N64 version for the first time and being so disappointed that they'd removed all the serious flight instructors (which had a simple anime type look to them) and added in a bunch of goofy, silly and frankly awful "comedy" characters.

The tonal shift really bothered me and made the game feel kind of tacky, even though it still played well. I really missed being earnestly told off by Tony, Shirley and the others. Couldn't stand all those clowns they added to 64.

Re: Miyamoto Views Games As 'Products', Not 'Works Of Art', Says Ex-Nintendo Dev

Suketoudara

@SplatRay001 Exactly, I consider them to be both and just because Miyamoto feels like that it doesn't mean everyone working on the games does, not least the literal ARTISTS designing the visuals and music!

@The_Nintend_Pedant "...nah. no wonder Nintendo games have gotten progressively more artless over the years"

I would've agreed with you not too long ago but Mario Wonder, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza feel like some of the most expressive and artistically beautiful games in years. Very glad the lifeless and plasticky era has come to an end.

Re: Nintendo Highlights Multiple Switch 2 And Switch Games Launching In July 2025

Suketoudara

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 and Donkey Kong Bananza for me. Maybe Mario Party Jamboree but I don't know, I need to research it further and see if has more single player (online or offline) content than Mario Party Superstars which I think it does as it has a Fall Guys like mode, right?

BTW Tony Hawk's is only ยฃ34.99 at Smyths online. It's a Code in a Box, but eh, that's still a great price for a new digital game anyway.

Re: Talking Point: One Month On, How Did Nintendo's Switch 2 Launch Go?

Suketoudara

Buying it was refreshingly easy, just going in my local currys and pre-ordering it. Nintendo UK did a good job. ยฃ34 for Mario Kart World with bundle was a nice price and it feels like a return to form for me (as someone who didn't like Mario Kart 7 and 8 as much as others did) so am very happy with it

And launch line-up was wide and varied with many AAA titles. People need to remember not everybody owns more than one console or plays games on their PC.

Going forward I'll be buying THPS 3 + 4 and Donkey Kong Bananza this month. GameCube games also pad out the first party games nicely for me as I haven't played them for 20+ years so it's really nice to revisit them.

Only thing I'm unhappy with is the battery life and IMO it's actually a bit big and heavy to take out with me often, so I hope they make a Switch 2 Lite later on.

Re: Switch 2's Welcome Tour Developer Has Been Revealed

Suketoudara

@Zyph Having now played it, I feel like it makes zero sense for it to be packed in as the information it goes into is way too technical for the average consumer to be interested in. This isn't a title most people would care for. It's too geeky and niche to be a pack in.

Maybe if it was simply a mini game collection with more mouse based games it would work.

@cylemmulo The mouse mini games with the UFOs are a lot of fun IMO and remind me of the fly swatter Mario Paint mini game. I disagree it has no character, it has a quirky and humourous charm to it just like 51 Worldwide Classics. Love the dialogue which was surprisingly funny and self deprecating and skating around on the Switch 2 screen. And the concept of a games expo on a giant Switch 2 is just fun for me. But to each their own.

Re: Of Course Mario Kart World Is Being Review Bombed

Suketoudara

@purple_shyguy "We didn't get any new content for Animal Crossing"

What are you talking about, Animal Crossing got tons of new content. You couldn't even swim or dive at launch, there was no Redd, no Cap'n etc etc. It was really bare bones to begin with and they added lots over the years.

Re: Of Course Mario Kart World Is Being Review Bombed

Suketoudara

@raymond23 Changing one option doesn't make it "unplayable" or a 0/1. That's ridiculous hyperbole. The rest of the game like online Knockout Tour, online with friends, Grand Prix, offline VS Modes, Battle Mode and Free Roam remain completely unaffected. Even the change doesn't change THAT much other than 3 laps coming up in one specific mode slightly less often.
