I think it's pretty interesting that this Q&A even exists and that they're taking control of the narrative head on.
Maybe the first signs of difference from the Doug Bowser era where they'd just be silent and let the Internet go wild with misinformation and speculation.
Not Tetris 3D! If you want a much better 3D Tetris game try the arcade version of Blockout (1989) The soundtrack is actually SO good too! Vaporwave before it was called Vaporwave: https://youtu.be/46cgFyE3cww?si=6CeS09Z6t6TWjwFP
I've been playing a lot of Balloon Fight on the NES lately, so happy with this addition. Never had a NES but have nostalgia for that one from playing it in Animal Crossing GameCube when it came out!
Very annoying they didn't bring the Game Boy Colour over though. Guess I'll have to go through the palava of getting the Japanese app.
People bleating on about "freedom of speech" as if the moderators are running a country and not a website with rules to abide by like all communities. Try a cesspit like 4chan or X if you want a free for all.
Or YouTube. The grifters on there are gonna have their rent paid for months off videos complaining about how Nintendo's gone woke and probably blaming the new NOA president because she's... gasp... a woman.
Interesting that the Nintendo UK direct was different to the Nintendo of America one, not only the voice over but the Miis used. The UK one was funnier, much more unhinged.
@AmplifyMJ I played Yoshis Island in full for the first time this year and it blew me away.
The variety of enemies is crazy and on a purely artistic level I don't think there's been a Mario game so beautiful. At times it was hard to believe I was playing a Super Nintendo game and not a modern stylised indie game.
The reason I never played it when I was younger was cause I'd just sold my SNES to pay towards a PS1 when it came out in UK and then I passed on the GBA version because I had Yoshi's Story on N64 in between and found it a bit mediocre, so assumed it would be the same thing. I now know it's way better!
@batmanbud2 I heard somewhere Kondo isn't very hands on anymore and the last soundtrack that he really made rather than supervised was Super Mario 3D World.
@AlanShore couldn’t agree more. This should have been free hands down. Honestly, the game overall just doesn’t stand up to other games that have been released since AC original release
This was a great opportunity to play catch up and they added literally pointless things.
What games? Personally I haven't enjoyed any other cosy life sims as much as Animal Crossing New Horizons. Dinkum is maybe the closest to it. I suspect they'll be saving a lot of that stuff for the next Animal Crossing game.
A higher score than I'd give the Switch 1 version since it's the ultimate version of the game.
According to this site's rating the Switch 2 version is worse so not sure it makes sense for them to even rate it if they're only reviewing the new features and ignoring the entire rest of the game 🤷🏻♂️ It's more of a "Should I upgrade?" editorial really, not a review of the entire package
Honestly I'd rather they struggle a little at the moment. Not GameCube or Wii U level struggling obviously as I want it to be well supported but Nintendo always becomes a little arrogant and lazy if they have too much easy success.
It'd do them good to be on the backfoot a bit and have to work to earn their success I think and hopefully mean less or no more $80 games.
@Bobobiwan Reggie is quite overrated IMO. People have rose tinted specs because he was always clowning around in Directs and became a meme, but they don't remember how he refused to bring a lot of Japanese games to the US and could be hostile to Indie developer "No garage developers"
And let's not forget him and Iwata were behind the hated YouTube Creators Program and the disaster that was the Wii U era. Arguably Nintendo's quality control wasn't up to scratch in the 3DS/Wii U either and Iwata greenlit a lot of dubious projects. I mean they still make some games with flaws, but compared the likes of Paper Mario Sticker Star and Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival... Not even to get into games like Star Fox Zero and Kid Icarus uprising that had god awful control schemes and the amount of times New Super Mario Bros got rehashed with little innovation.
As I said there's a lot of rose tinted specs for these times, I suspect especially so for those who were children or young adults in those times.
@RonMexico
And the sooner they can Furukawa, the better. The company was run by men who knew gaming. Now it's run by beancounters.
Furukawa is a gamer, that's a common misconception. He's stated he loved Nobunga's Ambition series and Golf Story which aren't even mainstream titles. Playing Super Mario Kart as a child inspired him to join Nintendo.
ThomasGameDocs did a good video on this which as a quote from the UI team that said "Looking around we saw a number of multipurpose device which could play games. So we decided to return to our gaming roots, making the Switch straightforward, clear and uncluttered"
And Masato Onishi who was in charge of the Switch's sound design said it was a conscious decision to not only make sure the UI was really fast but also to put the focus on the games themselves. He said "The Switch is designed to be game-centric so we ommited background music"
My own suspicion is it was a reaction to the Wii U flopping and they felt their brand had moved too far towards the "celebrity" staff and other non-gaming stuff so wanted to strip everything back to what makes Nintendo Nintendo. Maybe they perceived that as part of the reason they weren't doing well. I do feel like the quality of the games wasn't always great in late era Iwata and there's a possibility people were stretched too thin managing other stuff.
The speed thing definitely wouldn't be an issue with Switch 2 BTW. I hope they do reconsider the idea now things are back on track for them. They do seem to be moving back to themes in many areas as the Nintendo Today! app has them too, even Alarmo.
@thesilverbrick Is that with the Pro Controller or GameCube controller? As I know some games feel a lot more slippery on the Pro Controller due to the looser stick, like Super Mario 64
@Yosher F-Zero GX feels a lot better, if there is still a lag it's really not noticable to me.
Wind Waker as I recall had a bit of lag in the original game played on the GameCube too, definitely in the roll at least which has a slight delay built in.
Another Switch 2 edition with mouse mode and only £5.99 on sale at the moment. It has ZERO reviews on Metacritic or Steam so must only be "big in Japan." I'm not sure that it's just a Suika Game clone with cats. It looks like it plays a bit differently.
@PJOReilly If you wanted to add a second game to your extremely obscure Switch 2 games list you could consider a review 😂
@BaldB3lper78 Probably because Nintendo has that information. I guess Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony would all have to agree to share it if we wanted that included.
@John_Deacon The chart includes the bundle. They classify it as a physical purchase, just as they do Code In A Box games like Tony Hawks 3 and 4 which was included in these charts.
Mario Galaxy 2 - Playing through it for the first time
Mario Kart World - P Switch Missions, currently done 323
Wario World - Loved it on GameCube so excited to play again!
It’s also a shame Mario Kart World beat out Sonic Crossworlds, if you were to judge it based on the audience reactions to the game title reads at the event it was pretty evident which one people were more ecstatic for.
Well which one did more people buy? The Gaming Awards audience was mostly influencers and journalists, not the majority of players.
I think Switch 2 is making a lot of people people wake up to the fact that gaming social media doesn't represent the wider gaming community. Most people are too busy enjoying their games to care about the endless negativity, nitpicking, drama and misinformation. Not to mention all the hatred people get who like games that are deemed bad by the social media Bubble. Plus all the arguments over woke. It makes gaming a miserable experience so personally I don't engage much outside of here.
Personally Mario Kart World should've got best Soundtrack but it wasn't even nominated as it's sponsored by Spotify so only ones on there :-/
And Mario Kart World was crowned the best sports/racing game of 2025
Well deserved 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 150 hours in (most of which was in Free Roam) and still loving this beautiful and joyful game that dared to do a lot new instead of just re-hashing Mario Kart 8.
Look out for lot of deranged AI thumbnails coming to your YouTube suggestions soon folks 🤣
Can't agree that CrossWorlds is better, with no single player campaign/story like every other Sonic racing game and an online that appears to have an ever increasing amount of bots :-/ The handling isn't great either, the lack of Sumo Digital definitely shows.
@Glassneedles No worries, glad you could get it working properly 😃 No, I haven't played Goldeneye and Perfect Dark yet but did have to remap Turok, the default controls felt like a new level of bizarre 😂
@Chapapa So did I, it's a really good companion piece to 51 Worldwide/Clubhouse games (same developers) Relaxing, interesting, funny and quirky, a great inactive museum 😃 If it was free with the console I bet most people would love it. But apparently some people can't tell the difference between a bad game and a bad price point these days.
They should give us an update that let's you wander around one or more of the older Nintendo consoles giving you interesting facts and quizzes, plus letting you play unreleased tech demos and prototypes of popular games.
It's funny that people remembers it now with more love.
Feels like the case with so many GameCube games. I remember Wind Waker, Mario Kart Double Dash and Kirby Air Ride getting so much hate at the time, maybe Mario Sunshine too.
So many Treasure developed games on NSO now, gives me hope for Mischief Makers coming to N64 (published by Nintendo in the west) Another hidden gem. Bangai O would be cool too, although only released in Japan so less likely but still a possibility

Re: UK Charts: Mario Tennis Fever Serves Up A Decent Debut
Number 2 is a lot better than "decent" come on! Especially when it's the mighty Fifa (in all but name) stopping it reaching number 1.
Reading the headline I assumed it would be like number 7.

Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Pokémon Pokopia
@Anti-Matter:
What about if Konami made Dance Dance Revolution: Bluey Mix, made it a Switch 2 exclusive and released it only on Game Key Card?
The game features alternative Chibi Boxer outfits for all Bluey characters and Eurobeat remix of the Bluey theme tune.
Would you rate it 0/10 and never buy it?
Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Pokémon Pokopia
@Ham-n-jam It's developed by a 3rd party though. Nintendo's rule is no Game Key Cards for 1st party developed games, as opposed to published.
Re: Super Bomberman Collection Gets A Surprise Shadow Drop On Switch 2
Just brought it. Very nicely presented with rotatable boxart from all regions and SNES manuals available to read in full
@cylemmulo Yes it does because the Switch 2 version has online (via GameShare) unlike the Switch 1 bedroom

@Yosher 💯 I don't bother with most gaming social media outside of this site and a select few high quality YouTube channels now for that reason
