Re: UK Charts: Kirby Is Nowhere To Be Seen In A Quiet Week

Suketoudara

I returned my copy. Too chaotic, out of control and overstimulating for me, even as someone who loved the original game :-/ It's kind of funny if you think about, given how chilled and breezy the Kirby platform games are.

Despite not liking it myself I think it'll be a shame if it flops outside Japan though as I don't want it to deter Nintendo bringing back more niche franchises.

That said, as I pointed out last week, almost 90% of the games sold in the UK are digital (source here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-64187547) and it's number 2 on the eShop chart after Metroid Prime so we're not really getting the full picture from these charts each week.

There's practically zero dedicated physical game shops left in the UK since most GAME shops got consolidated into a few aisles of Sports Direct. The physical game market is kind of dead here.

Re: PSA: You Can Now Remap 'Nintendo Classics' NES And Game Boy Controls

Suketoudara

Great news as we can now view the controls in the Japanese games to make it easier to know what's going on in some of them.

I heard they updated the CRT filter on the NES too. I'm a little scared to try it as I really like the existing filter. Then again the SNES filter update was improvement so we'll see🀞🏻

Re: UK Charts: Kirby Air Riders Narrowly Misses Out On A Top Ten Spot

Suketoudara

@Willo567 If its any consolation almost 90% of UK games sales are digital. The physical games market is so small here that we have ZERO dedicated videogame franchise shops left. The last remaining one GAME has pretty much been consolidated into a few aisles in sports shops owned by the same company.

So I do wonder if we all put a bit too much weight on these charts which are likely about 10% of the overall game sales.

Re: UK Charts: Kirby Air Riders Narrowly Misses Out On A Top Ten Spot

Suketoudara

@KBuckley27 I don't get why a spin off should cost less than a mainline game?

A lot of people will just play through Mario and Kirby games once whereas their racing games have a lot more value for money thanks to the online play and in terms of Air Ride it has an insane amount of contents and unlockables offline too.

My hours played on Mario Kart World is more than double DK Bananza and I'm sure Air Ride will be too.

Budget games to me = Basic almost indie style games with very little content, eg Welcome Tour and Drag x Drive

Re: UK Charts: Kirby Air Riders Narrowly Misses Out On A Top Ten Spot

Suketoudara

@KBuckley27 $70 is a standard game price though? Don't know why it would be a budget release given the huge amount of content in it and that it's not a simple indie game. Feels like a premium product that will have a lot of longevity.

Anyway it's number 1 on UK eShop. I hope it sells well over time through word of mouth as its a fantastic game and I want it to have an active online userbase. Also sends the message to Nintendo that it can be a good thing to bring back older franchises rather than relying too much on Zelda and Mario

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Kirby Air Riders

Suketoudara

The Metro reviewer kind of seems to have a grudge against Nintendo in general, going on an unprovoked and irrelevant rant about the lack of 3D Mario, Switch 2 releasing in summer (?!) moaning that the game's coming out at all and claiming it's more of a remake than a sequel which isn't even factually accurate.

I'm all for intelligent and well consisted critical reviews but frankly it reads like something from one of those slop anti Nintendo YouTube channels covered in hideous AI thumbnails with headlines like "NINTENDO IS FINISHED"

Then again, Metro isn't a games site but a free UK newspaper from the Daily Mail group so it kind of makes sense that they'd engage in attention seeking clickbait over thoughtful analysis.

Re: RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition Physical Release Announced For Switch

Suketoudara

@Teksette @Elbitryq Brought this for Β£4.99 on eShop recently (its still on sale now) but the gameplay mechanics are kind of tedious, having played it after the Two Point games...

If you want to move a rollercoaster you have to close it, wait for all the people to get off it, delete it, then rebuild the entire things from scratch somewhere else, instead of just dragging the rollercoaster where I want them (like in Two Point and most modern sims)

You can't even drag and drop a tree if its in the wrong place, lol and there's no button to just delete it, you have to navigate through the menu to the "delete" section first which is kind of fiddly on the controller!

Also the music is weird, if only plays if you're extremely zoomed out, whereas if you're zoomed in you can hear the chatter of park goers, but there's a whole "dead space" when you're zoomed to the middle where it's just... silence.

And no touch screen controls is a shame too.

Definitely showing it's age so you might want to try it on eShop sale or PC first before buying the physical. It's worth Β£4.99 IMO, but not the price of the physical but just my opinion.

Re: Nintendo Today! App Update Adds A New Widget And News Filter

Suketoudara

@OorWullie The NSO app on the bottom left of Switch home screen is a bit like that, in so much as you can launch all the games for all systems from it. It also has screenshots and videos from of all the games unlike the individual NSO apps.

Annoyingly it does still exit into the individual app for the console when you quit the game though.

Re: Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 20 Today!

Suketoudara

@Pj1 This site always reminds me of the old Nintendo magazines, it has the same spirit. One of the reasons I love it so much, as well as the refreshingly friendly community, which is such a nice contrast to the toxicity of gaming social media. Happy birthday Nintendo Life, keep up the good work! πŸ₯³

Re: Hiroshi Yamauchi Might Feel Envious Of Switch 2's Success, Says Miyamoto

Suketoudara

@nhSnork Yamauchi actually came up with the idea of the Nintendo DS!

@Spider-Kev Erm, DLC didn't exist when Yamauchi was president so I'm not sure he was "against all of this" and N64 games plus many SNES games cost a fortune under Yamauchi. Nintendo under him also successfully lobbied to make game rentals illegal in Japan and tried to do the same in the US.

And Iwata said he was against discounting games as he said it makes them look cheap and lacking in value. He made YouTubers pay Nintendo a fee for using their footage under the Creators programme. Most of the "generous" Wii U moves were desperation.as a result of it flopping.

A lot of looking at the past through rose tinted specs here.

Iwata was also Furukawa's friend and mentor BTW and probably wouldn't like his name being used to take shots at current day Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo Releases A Storefront App For Android And iOS

Suketoudara

@Nintoz I wonder if they might be moving away from the Nintendo Direct format. I honestly wouldn't mind if they did and just announced things individually. It's better for keeping momentum and hype than endless silence and waiting I think. Just keep the Indie Showcase and Partner Directs, plus maybe the game specific ones we got for Mario Kart World, DK Bananza and Kirby Air Riders.

@rvcolem1 I wish they would just consolidate everything into one Nintendo app. Would honestly be a killer app that everyone would want if you could access music, calendar, eshop, play activity, news/updates and see if your friends were online in one place. And people would definitely be checking it a lot more regularly than they do the Nintendo Today! app I reckon.

Re: Nintendo Releases A Storefront App For Android And iOS

Suketoudara

Why can't I see my 3DS play activity? I had one and have linked my account to my old Nintendo Network ID that I used with it a while back πŸ€” Am I looking in the wrong place? I just see Switch/Switch 2 games. Or do I need to do something else? I don't have the console anymore.

Re: Nintendo Releases A Storefront App For Android And iOS

Suketoudara

Oh wow, you can see play activity for all games, not just the last top 20 and it's so detailed! You can hide games from it too. Push motifications when wishlist games go on sale is a nice feature

@1UP-HUSKY I don't know why they didn't put it on the Nintendo Switch app given we can already view friends activity on there πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Oh well, am just glad we have it at last anyway

Re: Nintendo Music Updated With Animal Crossing's 3DS Soundtrack

Suketoudara

Is it me or the KK Slided Club LOL nightclub music is missing?! That was one of the best songs in the game! Have I just not found it? In the club LOL but I see only Shrunk joke music. :-/

@VoidofLight Which songs did you find too lively or too quiet? You know, I have a theory that the songs were set around working 9-5 with lunch at 12. If you think about it that way the choices fit 100%:

7am - getting ready for work
8am - travelling to work
9am - relief at arriving
12pm - lunch
1pm - post lunch, satisfied after meal
3pm - afternoon slump
4pm - anticipation of leaving
5pm - travelling home, work is over
6pm - evening begins

Etc etc

And yeah I know I've thought about it too much πŸ˜‚ It's cause I was using the new real time hourly music feature on the Nintendo Music app at work and was surprised how well it fit perfectly!

But I can get why those synths might grate on some people. I don't mind them as they remind me of the synths in certain early 90s hip hop songs I have a nostalgia for, lol

Re: Nintendo Music Updated With Animal Crossing's 3DS Soundtrack

Suketoudara

@batmanbud2

finally, a good Animal Crossing soundtrack.

I don't know why so many people dislike the New Horizons hourly music, I think it's far more catchy, funky and varied than all those, samey plinky plonky New Leaf songs that often lacked a discernible melody. Yeah it's a different genre to the other games but it fits the island theme better.

I also find the change of pace in the various New Horizons songs better fit the time of day. Like 4pm sounds like you're winding down for the end of the working day day, the amazing 5pm is the perfect "going home from work" music and 6pm feels like the start of the evening etc.

But the main issue I always had with New Leaf OST was the night music was far more beautiful and interesting that the day music, especially the stunning 11pm. Wild World was even worse for this. Loads of weaker and even more forgettable plinky plonky daytime tracks but stunning night music when I hardly played!

The OG GameCube Animal Crossing was always my favourite though. The catchinesss and strong day music of the New Horizons soundtrack plus a whole lot of quirkyness and weirdness. I have a feeling that a lot of people who dislike the New Horizons hourly music started on Wild World so were more accustomed to music that faded into the background.

Re: Retro Nintendo Games Are Returning To Animal Crossing (Sort Of)

Suketoudara

So Nintendo can get rid of the annoying borders here, but not on the main NSO >_< Been hoping for years they'd let us turn those things off and hide our profile icon!

@Waluigi451 It would've been cool if they had games not included with NSO. Imagine if you could buy a GBA and play Animal Crossing New Leaf on itπŸ˜‚
