Re: UFO 50 Has Been Updated On Switch, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Suketoudara

Weird, my icon is the same even after restarting the console? Maybe I have to redownload.

As an aside I feel like Nintendo really did this amazing game dirty by not including a full trailer explaining what it's about in their Partner Showcase and just throwing it into a Sizzle Reel.

I can't speak for other countries but Is This Seat Taken? and Tiny Bookshop which they highlighted fully have been consistently in the top 10 download games on the UK eShop since the Partner Showcase but UFO 50 currently sits at number 32 😔

Re: Review: Bubsy In: The Purrfect Collection (Switch) - Limited Run Cleans Out The Kitty Litter

Suketoudara

I'll be getting it as I have a lot of nostalgia for the SNES GAME (that one was good IMO) and would like to try the others, especially the infamous Bubsy 3D!

Also the series has a genuinely interesting backstory like the Bubsy 2 developers hanging his plushy (by a noise) in the office and Bubsy 3D developers trying to make one of the first 3D platformers and being horrified when they saw Mario 64 for first time! Looking forward to hearing more about this in the video interviews. To me it's like Tetris Forever, in that I'm partly buying it for the historical significance and interest in the franchise story. And bad games can be entertaining in a funny way, just like bad films!

It's really sad that his creator died recently and won't see Bubsy 4D which has potential to be first really great Bubsy, being developed by the Demon Turf team who I have a lot of faith in.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws 'Switch 2 Title Update 1' Now Available, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Suketoudara

With so many of the major publishers treating Switch 1 like a dirty stepchild and making poorly optimised ports (despite the huge install base) this is really heartening to see and bodes well for the future.

I read an interesting message from a reliable insider on Resetera that Nintendo was working with third party developers to find a way to make Series S ports very easy to make.

@Rebusmind

I had several occasions where guards would run off into the distance (even through walls) when they noticed a knocked out guard instead of investigating what happened.

They were traumatised and scared by what they saw and ran away.

Re: Poll: Three Months In, How Would You Rate Switch 2's Library So Far?

Suketoudara

@MatthewTaranto I totally agree there and I've not seen many people talking about that. Nintendo could've easily made a safe "more of the same but better graphics" Mario Kart title and come out with a 3D Mario rather than a Donkey Kong with highly unusual playstyle. Wheelchair Basketball and a sequel to the relatively obscure Kirby Air Ride was a leftfield move too!

The creative freedom and "weirdness" of Nintendo at the moment might cause polarisation but it's reminding me a lot of GameCube era Nintendo which is when they were at their most interesting and unpredictable I think.

Re: Poll: Three Months In, How Would You Rate Switch 2's Library So Far?

Suketoudara

Excellent for me, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza are some of the best Nintendo games I've played in years (I didn't care about TOTK as am not a fan of the open world Zelda) even though MKW could do with some Quality of Life changes to make it even better. Also am really loving Chibi Robo and the fact that I can now play some, or my favourite Switch 1 games like Disaster Report 4 at a massively better framerate.

I do find the comments about a lack of games bizarre, especially as someone who lived through consoles like N64, 3DS and Wii U... Everyone talks about the "personality" of the Directs in the Iwata era but nobody wants to talk about the fact that the reason they did all these random skits and comedy bits is because most of the time they barely had anything to show and fill up the time.

Like how many games do people need? I've put 70 hours into Mario Kart World and 30 into Donkey Kong Bananza alone and in between Switch 2 releases I play Switch 1 stuff in my backlog, new indie titles (For Switch 1 or 2) and NSO titles. I could NEVER have nothing to play.

Re: Super Mario Party Jamboree Updated For Switch 2 And Switch (Version 2.2.0)

Suketoudara

@SplatRay001 Actually was a story on here about how they had to remove and adjust various assets in the Switch 1 version of Splatoon 3 to create parity. It could've been that there's so many mini games it would be too difficulty to not cause issues.

I do think it might be related to that as none of the other Switch 2 editions are like this and in theory would be pretty simple to just upgrade the resolution and it actually already is if you run the base mini games from the Jamboree TV section.

Re: Super Mario Party Jamboree Updated For Switch 2 And Switch (Version 2.2.0)

Suketoudara

@SplatRay001 It only ran at 720p undocked on Switch 2 if you ran the base Mario Party Jamboree from the title screen on Switch 2 presumably is just be referring to when it's undocked with the 1080p upgrade? It doesn't sound like they updated it Docked, though I think I heard having it higher than 1080p might cause compatibility issues with the online against Switch 1 players

Re: Rumour: Another Claim Points To A Nintendo Direct Later This Month

Suketoudara

Hoping for Yoshi's Wooly World and Galaxy 2 coming as they're two of the only Mario platformers (if Yoshi series counts as that) I've not played.

Plus Mario Kart World QOL updates allowing us to track the P Switches and race online without intermissions. Music playlists, volume slider and proper 2 player Free Roam with P Switches would be nice too.

Re: Reminder: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds 'Open Network Test' For Switch Is Now Live

Suketoudara

@Wewewi It doesn't even HAVE a story mode like Team Sonic Racing did, which sucks, as that was one of the best things about that game.

And honestly it feels really stiff with bad handling compared to Mario Kart World :-/ MKW has really raised the bar in that area. It seems to have really bad audio quality on the Switch version too, the music sounds really compressed/tinny? I liked the pre race banter from the characters though.

Re: Surprise! PS1 Cult Classic 'Fear Effect' Just Shadow-Dropped On Switch

Suketoudara

@SpacedDuck It's a 3D PS1 game, it'll likely look kind of terrible on any undocked Switch or modern HD TV

But seriously, wouldn't be a PS1 game look worse upscaled to 1080p? I've done that in some emulators and it... wasn't pretty.

Personally I'd rather play it on the Switch Lite anyway because the smaller screen is much more flattering to PS1, Saturn and N64 era visuals, ideally with a good CRT filter. I play all my NSO games on Switch Lite over Switch 2 for that reason, just a shame you can't use the N64 filter on it.

Re: Video: We Bought 100 Copies Of Mario Paint... For Science

Suketoudara

I wonder what became of my copy sold to "Mad Andy's Games Exchange" in 1996 when I moved on to PS1. Actually it's a really weird thought when you stop and think about how many homes all your childhood games ended up going through and where they all reside today! Damn and your toys as well.

Re: Review: Kirby And The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World - Kirby's Best Shines Even Brighter

Suketoudara

The original really blew me away even though I'm not a big fan of the 2D Kirby games. I still think it's amazing HAL made such an almost flawless game for their first fully 3D platformer. I mean, like, look at Pokemon's rough transition into 3D space in comparison after how many games now... :-/ It's something of a masterpiece IMO.

The only thing I wasn't keen on was the sometimes repetitive bosses as mentioned.

Re: Former PlayStation Head Praises Nintendo For Being "In Touch With Their Fan Base"

Suketoudara

@MSaturn

"Nintendo is the last company still acting on an older philosophy of video games. Everybody who has a problem with modern gaming winds up in the Nintendo camp, giving Nintendo a stable core audience. I used to be an all-console gamer but now I only play on Nintendo, simply because I’m not interested in what the other platforms are offering. The value proposition doesn’t work for me"

They either end up in the Nintendo camp or playing a lot of indie/cosy games on Steam like some people I know who are bored of big AAA story based games. I'd definitely say indie devs still have that old school mentality.

I mean Nintendo isn't perfect, but god, when I watched that GamesCom presentation they look like a breath of fresh air compared to the massive onslaught of grey and brown shooting games shown... it comes to something when Bubsy (!) looked like one of the most charming and interesting titles.

Re: Former PlayStation Head Praises Nintendo For Being "In Touch With Their Fan Base"

Suketoudara

@some_other_drum

Nintendo's new CEO is actually a finance guy who is not a gamer

That's a common misconception, Furukawa IS a gamer and wanted to work at Nintendo because he loved Super Mario Kart so much growing up and likes some pretty niche titles like SNES Nobunga's Ambition and Switch Golf Story (see my message above for more info) and actually comes from a creative family, with his dad being animator Taku Furukawa whose short films you can watch on YouTube. He was also mentored by Iwata.

There's a lot of misinformation about him because he's so elusive compared to Iwata and even Yamauchi (who actually WAS someone who didn't play videogames, although he was a visionary and even came up with the idea for the Nintendo DS which I only found out recently!) as well as some rose tinted revisionism about Iwata. Let's not forget one of the first things Furukawa did as president was scrap Iwata's god awful YouTube Creators Programme

Re: Former PlayStation Head Praises Nintendo For Being "In Touch With Their Fan Base"

Suketoudara

@AllBLK

Game key cards, the Switch Joy Con scandal, higher game prices, etc... Yeah they are really in "touch" with their fans.😐

People need to remember that the likes of us who post on Nintendo Life are not the majority of fans.

@breach187

But here’s the big difference: Nintendo makes games that they themselves would want to, and do play. You ask the CEO of EA, Microsoft, Former Activision CEO, Ubisoft, and other such publishers if they play video games and once you filter all the marketing fluff out, they’ll tell you no.

Good point. I think people forget that a lot of Nintendo's executives are games developers and even their current president, who many people falsely claim "isn't a gamer like Iwata" decided to join Nintendo because he loved Super Mario Kart so much when he was younger (he also loved Nobunga's Ambition) and stated Golf Story was his current favourite Switch game which is a pretty damn niche indie title.

That's why I find it a bit strange when some say "they love Nintendo as a developer but hate them as a company" because, well, it's the company that greenlights/funds the games they love and it's their culture/values allows their developers as much time as they need to make their games right. It's all intertwined. Of course it's fine to criticise them about dubious decisions but it would be nice if we could give them their dues for the things we like about what they stand for as a company without some trolls in other quarters of the internet (cough... reddit, youtube) parroting out cliches like "tHe MuLtI-bIlliOn DoLlAr CoMpAnY iS eViL, bOoTliCkEr!"

Re: Mario Kart World Wins "Best Nintendo Switch 2 Game" Of Gamescom 2025

Suketoudara

@Wewewi

Sure, MKW is amazing for 5-10 minutes. But 5-10 hours and you're so done with it.

Maybe for you but I've played it for 130 hours. It's definitely flawed and need some QoL updates but I really love it and would agree it's the best game on Switch 2.

Meanwhile DK Bananza has been a disappointment for me and I wish I liked it more than I did, as a huge fan of the series I wasn't expect it to be such a repetitive bash em up coming from the Mario Odyssey team and frankly, it's kind of ugly to look at compared to the Donkey Kong Country games. :-/ Some of those garish colour choices and character designs... the music so far isn't much better either so far (and how lazy are those SNES "remixes" ... David Wise is sorely missing) plus Pauline's cheesy yapping makes me feel I'm playing a Frozen game. Might switch her to another language.

Everyone keeps saying it'll get better half way through/near the end of the game/at the end game so I'll persevere but it does make me question how it can be any kind of "masterpiece" if half the game is kind of mid... I could tell Mario Odyssey was something special from the Cascade Kingdom.

@Filthy

DK is such a TikTok-generation platformer

My thoughts exactly and I felt the same about Super Mario Wonder to some degree. It's cheap dopamine hits over well designed levels. You can definitely feel the younger development teams coming through now. Honestly makes me a bit concerned to what direction the next 3D Mario will go in.

Re: Nightdive's CEO Reiterates Desire To Remaster 'Eternal Darkness'

Suketoudara

"Nightdive had been involved in discussions with Nintendo about remastered some of its games, but noted that the company was "gun shy" about working with third-party developers"

Looked up "Gun shy" (never heard that term) and it means they had bad experiences in the past that's making them reluctant to do the same, I wonder what game/third party that was
