@SirVick I guess the advantage of not having a PS5 or another console outside of Switch is that I dont even realise I am getting the inferior product lol
man, its kinda hard to reconcile this with the fact that Cronos got 7/10 and by every metric seems to be a far superior title. Bloober making an effort as a growing studio to make something toward a AAA title, and it is getting its game evenly
ranked with FMV game with dodgy acting. Plus Cronos losing points for performance issues whereas this retains the 7 even with performance issues. all feels so wrong.
edit: watched the trailer and dead reset looks like a dodgy straight to vid C class movie with obvious terrible acting. Whereas Cronos is actually a high effort title. My goodness
@The_Nintendo_Pedant yeah, Zwei was the absolute peak of the Sega Saturns aesthetic and graphical possibilities, and it's kinda impossible to replicate that quality. it doesnt look bad judging from those screens, but it doesnt have the quality of the OG and what made it special
@Kraven In todays market/world it is maybe misplaced to expect originality always. there is only so many times something and a genre in particular can 'do something new'. I wonder if this requirement is over-rated. Doing the genre well and doing it justice, even if there is not something 'original' seems to me a merit in itself
@Polvasti nah it really isnt amongst the 10 greatest games of all time. I concede that it will be in the 10 greatest Metroidvania games of all time (Super Metroid and Symphony of the Nights are superior metroidvania titles) but NO WAY top 10 games of time. top 50 games of time, OK, sure, thats plausible.
@SpaceboyScreams I just got the reaper crest and died on my first fight with moorwing. Dont get me wrong, I do like Hollow Knight, and Silksong is great. but I also feel like I am just playing very well made metroidvania games, and these are not the greatest games of all time or anything. (btw anyone reading this, for a recent metroidvania that is (at least) equally as good as HK, play Cathedral)
well yeah, because Hollow Knight has been sucking all the oxygen out the room and when Chronos released people were like 'oh, I didn't realise that was releasing. For what is ultimately just a good 2D metroidvania, this Hollow Knight hype has been kinda unwarranted tbh.
@AJWolfTill @Anachronism Yoko's island was fun but way too short. dread was good, but Super Metroid and Metroid 2 are the greatest Metroid 2D games imo, and two of the greatest MV's and games of all time. Obviously Symphony of the Night is an all timer but is not recent. I am a big fan of the Bloodstained games as well. It's a massive Shame 'Ritual of the night' was bugged to hell on Switch, but I personally think it one of the greatest recent era MV's. Curse of the Moon games are top tier as well. An underrated MV that not enough people talk about is Cathedral, which is a gem of an MV and huge like Hollow Knight. Honestly I think Grime is an absolutely amazing MV as well, maybe even the best for me personally.
no offence to Hollow Knight, because it IS a great Metroidvania title, but it aint all that either. Everyone acting like the four horsemen of the apocalypse are arriving. It's just a well made MV, but there are equally good (and frankly better) MV's out there
I dont think losing 2 illustrators/character artists and a 'narrative designer' is gonna be fatal, or even much of a blow at all, to Capcom. Japan has more than its fair share of mega skilled concept artists/illustrators
I never got this series. I tried a couple of the games and it is literally rolling everything into a ball within a time limit. its there more to it? I never played long enough to find out
@Orwellian87 for sure, but realistically I dont see Nightdive getting ahold of any Nintendo IP. Nintendo want all their legacy titles on an online subscription service.
@Questionable_Duck not long back they did express some desire to move toward remasters of PS3 games, with the FPS game Haze being a title they mentioned in particular. I am in the camp that really loves what Nightdive does and want them to stay that way though. There are a ton of PS1 and earlier PC titles that need remastered, and of course PS2 titles. Some of the titles they have remastered are historically important titles, and really they are resurrecting those historically important games (games like PO-ed for instance) and bringing back to life something really important in gaming legacy/history. I notice their choices are very careful. But I mean they seem to be growing strong and steadily, and they are involved in an impressive amount of stuff. I imagine a fair bit of PS2 stuff/early 2000's PC stuff will arrive in the next few years.
@KayFiOS the thing is if you didnt play these back in the day you will prob find them very hard to get into. these games have elements that many find very tedious, although those things that are tedious were a great novelty back in the day (something like 'woah, thats so realistic' kinda thing). Basically Yakuza is an evolution from the Shenmue series but much more 'playable', unless you really like your games old school.
@Big_Round_Robin TR6 was the most slated of the CORE developed PS games and I think is considered to have killed off TR in its initial form before being rebooted and re-branded. I think it was the only CORE developed TR title for PS2, and it was like TR didnt make the transition to next gen well. At least thats how things were framed. Always wondered if it was as bad as people said.
@Suketoudara DD was a disappointment and was far from a classic GC at the time, and is not considered so now. Considering how much people loved MK64 that enthusiasm was just not there for the GC title.
man, when it said a game 5 years in dev I thought it was gonna be some rich graphical universe, ideally in a PS2 aesthetic or st. turns out it has Commodore 64 graphics...
@GrailUK these games are by and large unplayable imo. it's heavy on nostalgia for those that grew up with Atari era games, but honestly, most these games have no aged well at all.
I just hope they dont screw the story like they did with Age of Calamity. Making all the heroes survive on an alternate timeline was lame. They should have stuck to the BotW timeline and not feel to need to give e a cosy happy ending to everything where everyone survives and is all lovely and happy. Just stick to the universe and its actual story for goodness sake.
Nice the Bloodless features in this. Just for those that dont know or have forgotten, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a literal masterpiece. everyone should play it, and now that it got a perforce boost on Switch 2 I would say it is good to play on Switch now

my conspiracy is they made MKW intentionally a bad MK game so Kirby Air Riders will be the new racer and franchise on Nintendo systems
