i personally think the best 'boomer shooter' that is also available on Switch is Ion Fury, which is an incredible FPS game and huge on top. Will def be buying this though.
Why? are they ashamed of those games or something. Sol Cresta is a great SHMUP/shooter, even if it didnt sell too well. But i mean SHMUPS are rarely big selling games. Its certainly nothing to be embarrassed of.
the thing is Switch 2 is gonna have no more filter for shovelware spam garbage than Switch 1 has. i just hope they do some sorting so that at the very least you can filter it out (unlikely)
@HugoGED i dont anyone except OCD maniacs will carry over their entire library. Every gamer will have games on their Switch 1 thye know fine well they are either never gonna play, didnt like, or wont play. so a case of just redownloading your top switch games. arrying over an entire library would just be a kind of fetish thing where you have it there just for the sake of it.
@cedarhyped another case of misrepresenting what i said. if you look through the rest of the thread you will see the issue is more Nintendo going into a politically topical and charged area - something Nintendo typically avoid. But its quite possible as others have said that way too much is being read into the caharcetr anyway, thus further making it more politically charged than need be
@Gaymer90 i would be weary of promoting Nintendo as a champion of human rights, or any corporation for that matter. You can read about Nintendos use of practical slave labour going way bak in places like China, for which they have kopped a lot of flak. and then there is how they go after tiny people with copyright threats for nonsense stuff. i dont think thats really the issue here, but i appreciate you agree with me on at least one thing
@AJWolfTill well, i agree with you, but thats just where we are, and the initial response to the inclusion of the character with uncensored dialogue itself found itself very quickly in a political context. This is the whole thing of things getting labeled 'woke' and what not. And that was my original point about their will prob be less risk in this direction because of the 'political sensitivity' (which is already happening). I was basically trying to make an obviously true statement but for some reason it is contentious.
@Vexx234 the comments on these things are very sensitive in terms of what gets removed, so i am doing my best to remain as neutral as possible so that the discussion can remain live. As for me personally, i am not invested. I currently study philosophy academically, i sit in applied ethics classes.i watch arguments bak and forth, and l like to observe the rationale and merit of each argument. There are people that will literally not allow this kind of perspective however, the kind that say 'dont sit on the fence take a side'. it is a form of intolerance for people that are just trying to figure things out and weighing arguments that cross centuries. so please dont tell others what to do and how to conduct their discussion as long as their are being considerate and fair
@Dogorilla i am not here to fight or anything, beause i am not invested either way, but i wouldnt call the people that complain about wokenness a vocal minority. where i am and the people i see, nearly all are complaining about it. It feels kinda cliche now, but i feel they are actually the vocal majority tbh. Of course these experiences are largely determined by the places we live and the circles we live in. I am around a working class people in a 'proletariat' area, and they i notice are nearly all against woke. Middle-classes and urban areas seem more sympathetic to it. But as a whole, i would defintiely say its on the back foot and its more majority against it than for it. As such i expect to see games/media take less risk with this stuff
not getting political, but it is an interesting strategy to kind of pursue and double down on these things in video games, when the trend is turning away from them ('woke' under heavy criticism). I feel its a bad strategy and we will prob see less of it, but it was an interesting move on Nintendos part given their staunch anti-political general m.o.
@Porky just because its its own entry doesnt make it MK9. from what i see it is just MK Tour. nothing stops MK9 being the next game just because there was MKTour between 8 and 9
there is a major risk of the Nintendo IP undergoing the Hollywood Pixar'isation of its characters.that is gonna make them more 'universal' but duller and lame in that way Pixar/contemporary animation graphics tend to look. They should stay closer to a Japanese character and not embrace this modern movie animation look. Not everything should look like an American movie.
@Andee well, JRPG's just were not that popular in the UK and Europe at the time. The concept of an RPG was still somewhat alien, and the RPG was way more popular in the USA and obviously Japan at the time. More popular in Europe was third person shooter and horror game type affairs. It wasn't until the success of FF7 in European regions that JRPG's were put on the map in a big way.
@Dazman yep. UK is poor mans land now. and we are only getting poorer and it will get worse. Everyone is broke, no one wants to spend beyond their means much. Digital is just much cheaper
i am pleased others are leaking it. Nintendo have just took the p**s this time around. there is a kind of window of reasonable disclosure after you have announced something and Nintendo have this whole thing ready to roll but still wont unveil it.
i mean i personally hate being forced to have to buy from LRG and wait god knows how long before i receive a game. I mean there are other small producers obviously, but the whole system for getting non-major titles is really not great. hopefully some technological advancements will make it easier for devs/publishers to just whack out a bunch of physical products instead of having to rely on places like LRG
my hope is that its true it can competently and comfortably run PS4 games. if thats true then its enough for a huge array of content and ports. hopefully it arrives port heavy.
thing is i dont think people are just 'repeating the past'. video games literally demand innovation at breakneck speed and thats what tends to happen. people get tired of things quik, things move on. there are tons of original games. At the same time its good there is a retro scene that leans heavily on retro paradigms and styles, whilst shaking things up a bit. The nature of the competitiveness in the industry literally demands innovation. Look at how Nintendo shake things up. Nothing against Lena, she is obviously very competent, but it makes me wonder why people say this (its kind of a cliche people just automatically say i supposed) when if you trace video game history the innovation and trying new things is basically the norm.
its ridiculous the Po'ed remaster is in there. PO'ed is an important piece of gaming/FPS history because it was made when the concept of what a FPS game should be hadnt settled, and it is very weird and experimental but in a good way that is literally totally unique.
people shouldnt take his comments seriously, its more like an act or game he plays where he 'plays the d**k' but isnt actually one. its just part of his persona. He is a bit eccentric and thats a good thing. Genuine artists were often ecentric, but there is such pressure against genuine eccentricity these days, that it makes people inclined toward eccentricity even more uptight and neurotic. Not everything has to be taken as a serious moral failing. He is just an eccentric who likes to play with his fanbase a bit.
dont blame them tbh, waiting for Nintendo to have the right timing on showing this bloody thing that is visually ready for ages is liek watching paint dry. Just do it. Someone else had to because nintendo wouldnt. There is being a tease and then there is being a bore. Nintendo just keeps dragging it
theres so much in December anyway, that no big deal. Legacy of Kain drops in 4 days and theres nightdives remaster of Thing in a couple of days as well
@Burning_Spear idk man, if it is otherwise bug free and playing well (as i understand it is) then not having Touch is hardly making it an incomplete product. there were never part of the classic set up to begin with. if someone releases metal gear solid and it is a perfect port but without touch controls, is it then an 'incomplete product'?
i tried LiS 2 and to like these games you need to have a quite specific mindset, that likes a kind of cringey narrative based affair. a lot of that kind of contemporary drama kind of dialogue
man, we are so dry and starved and just all here waiting for Switch 2 that we have to drag out some 'drama' from a behind the scenes making of an advert for Switch 1.
Nintendo put us out of our misery and drop the Direct for Switch 2 already...
@Toastmaster well Nightdive are the gold standard for remasters. The Shadowman remaster is one of the greatest most caring remasters ever. its a damn shame Nightdive didnt get a hold of the LoK games for remaster. Aspyr are just a corporation going through the motions. Nightdive are something like artists of remastering
