Re: Nintendo Download: 27th September (North America)

@Dang69 @imgrowinglegs
RIght. I pre-ordered at Best Buy because I like having the physical release when possible. I get back Monday so they should still have it then.

It's mostly more of a "this is why I don't pre-order very often" type thing.

Re: Shin'en's Mystery Switch Game Is Physics Puzzler Art Of Balance

SmaMan

Wow, what a letdown. I played the demo of this on 3DS, and enjoyed it mostly. But it just didn't seem like I'd be into an entire game of this.

For those who were getting hyped about a new F-Zero (thanks for spreading unfounded rumors again, NL) need I remind you that Nintendo has reportedly greenlit a StarFox racing game. StarFox. Racing.

They would literally greenlight anything but a new F-Zero at this point.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th September (North America)

SmaMan

I preordered DragonBall Fighter Z. Unfortunately, it releases tomorrow, and I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow.

Sigh... this situation literally ALWAYS happens when I pre-order something. At least I'll get a neat SNES game for my trouble... which I already own... and it's not nearly the best version of it... sigh....

Re: Taito's Ninja Warriors Revival On Switch Gets The Most Literal Title Ever

SmaMan

Glad to see this happening! Taito did that "Again" thing many times, with Bust-A-Move 2 being called Bust-A-Move Again in some releases.

@JJ286
Kind of. Think more like SoR combined with Kung-Fu, Vigilante, Black Belt, or any of the early Hokuto No Ken games, etc. The action is locked to a single plane, and you have to take out the bad guys coming from left and right. This adds a lot more action to the formula though, with a wider range of attacks, including a sweet super move if you can build up your momentum gauge.

Re: Review: Blade Strangers (Switch)

SmaMan

@Blizzia
Don't get me wrong, I love these characters too. But the average game player hasn't ever heard of more than half of these. (A few are still a mystery to me, even.) Meanwhile, 5mash has some of the most recognizable faces in the industry.

I mean, I guess they might be drawn in by the half-naked Solange front and center on the cover. Worked for Code of Princess! (and the fact it was constantly on sale)

Re: Review: Blade Strangers (Switch)

@Moroboshi876
I'd imagine if this does well enough it'll be ripe for a Limited Run release. Sadly, in a world where it seems everybody's doing a crossover fighter, this roster feels like the D-Team.

Re: NBA Playgrounds 2 Will Now Be Published By 2K Games, Adding Some "NBA 2K Flair"

SmaMan

@NiaBladerunner
So it'll be just like the first game then? Don't forget how that one came to Switch incomplete, only getting "completed" with a special edition months later. At least they gave us early adopters Shaq Fu to compensate...

You know, one of the few things I actually liked about the original Playgrounds was the fact that it had a progression system based on your own progression through the game, leveling up to get more players and improve them with the coins you earned. Well, goodbye to all that. Get ready to pay, pay, pay.

Re: Review: Samurai Shodown V (Switch eShop)

SmaMan

@Moroboshi876
Matrimelee (which would be an amazing addition to the Switch's Virtual... I mean ACA) also had a lot of content cut in its US release. Several songs were cut out since they couldn't negotiate the rights to them. This also meant that several of the stages, where those songs were being performed live in the background, were neutered to the point where they really didn't make much sense, and were also pretty boring.

This is why the UniBios is a must have for any NeoGeo owner.

Re: Random: Splatoon 2 Player Hacks In-Game Leaderboard To Send Nintendo A Message

SmaMan

I don't think this goes against their own argument in any way. It's a "Look how easily I did this, and that's a problem" argument. No different than when a "white hat" hacker finds a critical security flaw and informs a company about it.

In this case, the company "Nintendo" has been told about it but has been inept to do anything about it. Now, it's time to go public.

Re: Poll: Is Your Nintendo Switch Cracking Under The Pressure?

SmaMan

My launch-day console is fine. I haven't played with it all the time, though I think I recall dropping it once or twice.

I wonder if this is like that one time someone bricked their Wii during a system update but made a big enough fuss about it so that all the news outlets (including this one) reported it as bricking consoles "Left, right, and centre" (actual quote from this site).

Seems like a lot more independent verification this time though, so maybe it's a legitimate concern.

Re: Minecraft's Aquatic Update Phase Two Gets Wet And Wild Today On Switch

SmaMan

See, now this is what I've always wanted out of Minecraft, or any open world exploration game for that matter. Forget the sky or numerous continents and landmasses, I've always wanted to explore the depths of the ocean.

I remember trying to build an undersea tunnel on my little brother's server years and years ago. It was fun, if not frustrating.

Re: Fans Are Calling Out Nintendo And Camelot For "Lazy" Mario Tennis Aces

SmaMan

It got initial praise for having a bit more meat on the bones than Mario Tennis Wii U. But alas, that's still not a lot of meat.

I know I've encountered 3-set matches in adventure mode... why can't we have them in multiplayer? The scoreboard in multiplayer clearly has room for the full 5 sets too, so the only question is why not? Did Camelot have a secret clause in their contract that they must not make a game better than Mario Tennis in the N64?

Re: Mario Tennis Aces Has Stellar Launch In Japan, Doubles Early Sales Of Ultra Smash On Wii U

SmaMan

Huh, I was wondering why things around here were just a little more peaceful, not seeing him jockey for first comment by just putting in "wow" and then editing it into something inflammatory. Hearting his own comments to make it look like someone believed in him.

But on topic, yes good to see Mario Tennis on top. Thinking about getting that today. No surprise to see it double Ultra Smash since that was a mistake in every sense of the word.

Re: Epic Games Has Already Removed Playground Mode From Fortnite

SmaMan

@Pod
It's the Chicken Wiggle situation all over again. Though at least this time, they have the excuse of being a game people actually know about.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th June (North America)

SmaMan

Has anybody played the new Wolfenstein yet to see if they included the full original PC version (with the "if the Nazis won" graphics) in it?

I'm between picking this one or Mario Tennis for my long plane trip next week (and possibly one of the other smaller titles.)

Re: Splatoon 2 Developers Aren’t Planning More Single Player Expansions

SmaMan

Splatoon 2 is the most played game on my Switch. (I think...) Speaking purely for myself, if there's any game that deserves more dough out of me, it's probably this one.

Unlike games like Call of Duty Blops 4 (or pretty much everything else announced at E3) that announce their DLC and season passes at the same time or before they're even announced, this game has lead with a strong, core experience at retail price. Anything else has been a worthy addition, but nothing absolutely essential. It's all just icing on an already delicious cake, and I'll gladly take seconds.

Re: Epic Is Suing Former Employee For Leaking Major Fortnite Details Before Release

SmaMan

What plot? You mean this shooty bang bang game about a bunch of people who jump out of a flying bus and later kill each other has a PLOT?

I mean, I guess gradual changes to the one map you get to play on are a neat innovation to this increasingly stale genre but this seems like another ridiculous suit from the same company that sued people for finding bugs in their Early Access beta of the game... which is supposed to be the point, right? (Back in my day you used to pay people to do that....)
