Iwata was cut from a very different mold as far as CEOs go. He preferred to lead from the trenches and the front lines in many cases. He's had a direct impact on many of Nintendo's projects, and was happy to be as much of a face of the company as Mario is. This style led to him being beloved internally as well as externally.
Furukawa's style is different. He sounds like more of a traditional CEO, but where he breaks that mold is that he respects what the rest of his company is doing. He's still calling shots, yes, but he's letting others call them too. It's only the beginning, and we may see more of his influence as his years carry on.
It should be noted that this isn't exactly the first time that Ichidant-R was released in the west. A version of it was available on the Sega Classics Collection on PS2 (where it was called Tant-R).
Think of it as a predecessor to WarioWare. It's a bonkers party game collection that's good for some laughs. Worth it at that price.
Again, while doing that for the long term isn't a good idea, he makes a great point that this could show what a possible "Switch Pro" could do when it comes to upscaling performance of existing Switch games.
High Voltage are fairly talented as developers go, however, so it still might be good. There's a reason you don't see as many movie tie-in games anymore though...
Considering all this developer seems to do (and indeed, the only "marketing" I've seen on his games) is gripe about how people aren't buying his games or that Switch would be hard to develop for, I think it's fair game for his investors to do the same.
Zelda's got tons more glitches. Like the one in Link to the Past (that's still unfixed even in the NSO release) that lets you beat the entire game in about 3 minutes.
This game may not have an energy system, but it does have pretty stringent limits on how many coins you can get from races per day, as well as how many skill points your drivers, karts, and gliders can get per day. No way to pay and get rid of that, of course.
@KingBowser At least Alex corrected himself after the break since someone actually caught the mistake. (This actually happens a lot more since the Clue Crew works throughout the taping to check answers and such... but nobody's perfect unfortunately...)
I just got the SEGA AGES release of Ichidant-R in the Japanese eShop this morning. I've also pre-ordered the physical version of the Dragon Quest Trilogy. (A bit late, I know.)
So, nothing about the microtransactions? He didn't rack up tens of thousands of dollars on your credit card? Instead your kids are just playing it a lot?
Game addiction is a real thing, but it's not the publisher's responsibility. They're a business, and it's in their best interest to make you want to come back for more. Not to the point of "tearing their lives apart" but you'll have a heck of a time trying to prove otherwise in court.
Incidentally, if you **follow the links** to the original CBC article, you'll find good resources on treating video game addiction.
Weird to see such a low score for this after such a high score for the latest NBA2K, even though both are known for engaging in similar skullduggery. I guess adding in questionable features like gambling for kids is better than adding nothing at all... in these reviewers' eyes.
It's a shame they didn't save all this publicity this for the good entries in the series... then again, I've always said it's the more inferior games in a group that deserve a remake/reboot.
"As part of our ongoing initiative to be caretakers of important cultural touchstones..."
I had a good chuckle at this one. Yeah, they don't care, they just want money. Otherwise they'd make sure Green Hill Zone would actually play on-key in their consoles.
@jahasnell
Huh. I stand corrected. Looks like Nintendo did a last minute about face on some parts of the Wii Shop going offline.
Still, this is only available "for the time being." One day, probably sooner rather than later, if your Wii Shop purchases haven't been downloaded, or those downloads get lost/corrupted/etc., you'll be out of luck.
It's almost as if it's finally more fleshed out and feature-complete now!
...That's not a knock against this game. I love it. But you can't say those early days, really the first year or so, weren't dire and lacking content. It really just needed some more time in the oven.
@PorllM
No... the Wii Shop is gone. Finished. Ceased to be. You can't buy or re-download anything you've bought in the past there. If you get a new Wii console, you also won't be able to do a system transfer anymore since that software was, you guessed it, only available on the Wii Shop.
I hope that if they continue releasing (SP) versions of these games as they did in the NES app, they'll release one with all the tracks available in Time Trial mode, instead of the random 7.
I'm loving the prologue demo. (Never got around to playing the first one.) I'll probably grab it at some point, but I have too many games in my backlog right now.
My big concern is that, while right now for the reviewers VC is in "plentiful" supply, they could (and have) just as easily turned it down to more meager levels via Day One patching.
Sorry, I just can't trust 2K and their gambling-for-children-featuring-basketball sims anymore.
1. Yes! 2. Yes!!! 3. ...Meh... I've got them everywhere else, including one Input press away on my TV. 4. That's a great idea, if it can possibly be crammed into the console. Integrated voice chat is a huge selling point for some people/some games. (Maybe integrate Discord while you're at it.) 5. Yes!!! Maybe just a good region switch on the News screen. (Maybe do this in the Nintendo Switch Online console apps too, just to save space? ...Heck, why not combine those into one?!)
While I'm not too big a fan of their audio compression, (especially when its 1000 song soundtrack spanning most of video game history was a major selling point) luckily we have fan audio engineers who have restored most of them to better glory in the Super Smash Bros. Anthology.
We've already had soo many cut-and-paste emulation ports of Dreamcast games. It's about time to get M2 on the case to get us something good, even if it takes a long time.
@GrailUK @molkom and everyone else who likes Super Tennis.
If you think that's good, you should download the Super Famicom app (also included with your subscription) and try their one exclusive at the moment, Super Family Tennis. (known as Smash Tennis in the UK) From what little I've played, it feels like it's got all the polish and improvements that Super Tennis didn't quite get.
Here’s an idea. Since no one’s seemed to have heard of Terry Bogard, why not release some Fatal Fury games on the new SNES service. Sure, they’re inferior versions, and SNK would probably want you to buy the arcade ones already in the eShop, but this would be a great way to introduce newbie Smashers to the character.
Thing is, he's still in plenty of games to this day... fighting games, mind you. It boggles the mind to think that there's this many Smash followers who have never heard of the illustrious King of Fighters franchise at this point.
This was totally worth the 500¥ introductory price they offered it for in Japan. The full price? Not so much, but we'll see how this new content pans out.

Ah, y'all remember when they had that Switch OS easter egg to play this game?
Kinda sounds sacrilige to now charge $8 for it.

Say what you will, but given the (well-deserved) bad rap that AAA is getting these days, if I was a game maker I'd rather be in the "Indie" camp.

So not only is the Wii U version still readily available and vastly cheaper, it's also less censored? Great.
Re: A Witcher 3 Switch Mod Appears To Restore Visual Options Missing From The Retail Game
@Zuljaras You'll only run into that if you try overclocking your Switch for extended periods of time
MVG put out a great video on this today and after overclocking it, made it run near, and sometimes at, 60fps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFV0S8C2z3o

Sooo, they used the SNES remake backgrounds, and redrew only the sprites in MS Paint for some reason?
Square Enix's mobile ports where they use modern, higher res fonts with the original graphics look bad enough, but this?!
I may need to cancel my pre-order...
