Re: Sega Recreates Classic "Genesis Does What Nintendon't" Ad To Promote Mega Drive Mini

@rdm22
The timing certainly makes sense. It's pure speculation and rumor though. Best I could tell this was mentioned in an op-ed as early as April of this year in any sort of online form, but I know I've heard that rumor well before that.

This sort of reminds me of the rumors regarding why Earthbound would never get re-released due to the audio sampling in that game (which is arguably more egregious than Sonic 3's), and look where we are now.

If MJ's estate sued, I think Sega would have a pretty good case (he allegedly chose not to have any involvement or credit after the fact, therefore giving up any music royalties that might have accrued) and would most likely win. However, cases of this nature are still expensive and, at the end of the day, people are gonna figure out how to mod this thing and will be playing Sonic 3+K on it within a week of release, regardless.

Since it's only my left ones, and I only really use them in handheld mode, I'm thinking of picking up one of HORI's wired D-pad ones. Still, this is a serious issue, and hopefully Nintendo has quietly introduced a hardware revision or something because this is something I always have to tell people when they're thinking of buying one.

@graysoncharles I'm with you on most of those points... except, they sold that Pokemon Box Service explicitly stating that it was a future-proof solution to bringing your Pokemon to future games... and that was only the case, what... once? From Gen 6 to 7?

But of course, now you've got all your 'mons up there... shame if something were to happen to them. Better keep paying Gamefreak!

Re: We've Re-Translated That Pokémon Sword and Shield Interview Quote

My big question has been what does this mean for their other games? Is the still wildly popular Pokémon Go just going to stop after the next generation or so?

Granted, the two games have very different design goals, and animation was never really one of them in PoGo's case, but even with only 4-ish generations in, there's already some balance issues.

If it's a "we don't have enough time to implement 'em all" thing, then perhaps they could use PoGo's approach and roll out additional Pokémon into the game on a regular basis, which I'd be totally fine with since I normally wait a while before purchasing new games anyway.

It's just still so mind-boggling to me that a game that built its identity around collecting its huge variety of fictional creatures would compromise on that central facet.

If you've even had a passing interest in Sega's Virtua Racing, Get. This. One. It's an excellent source port of the original arcade game that Japanese account holders have been enjoying for months now! (Maybe now I'll find someone to play online with finally.)

Re: Random: HBO Uses Wii U Controller To Promote Streaming App Only On PS4 And Xbox

SmaMan

Reminds me of those Chinese bootleg game console listings on Amazon/AlliExpress/Wish/etc. that just slap whatever video game controller, console, or game graphics on it.

Btw, HBO, if you're reading this, that's not a good comparison to have made about you. You seem kinda new at this, so glad I could clear that up.

@Pod
I completely agree. I've actually been using mine on my Super Nintendo by way of the Retro Reciever. It feels great, especially for those weird times when I feel like playing Doom on it for some reason.

Re: Sega Ages Space Harrier "Coming Soon" To The Switch eShop In Japan

SmaMan

@Gs69
You're better off just making a Japanese eShop account, grabbing a code from PlayAsia, and buying it that way. The whole game will automatically be in English when you play it so there's really no point in waiting.

Which begs the question, why don't they just release both Japanese and English versions at the same time, if they are 100% the exact same code?

Re: Deals: This 256GB Micro SD Card Is Dirt Cheap And Perfect For Your Switch

SmaMan

@60frames-please
The 1TB card just hit the market. Give it time. The price of flash memory is dropping like crazy.

That said, be careful. I've already gotten reports of some off-brand Chinese manufacturers selling 1TB SD cards that are actually much less and are just formatted in such a way that makes it seem like they are, which will lead to data corruption.

Re: Be Wary Of Inserting Faulty Switch Game Cards Into Your Console, Warns Japanese Repair Store

SmaMan

Reminds me of a slightly broken SD card I tried to put in my Wii once, back when I was younger and stupider about these kinds of things.

A bit of plastic kind of snapped off of the top of the card. It didn't seem too bad, as I was able to snap it back into place, and it went in and read like it normally would. Crisis averted, or so I thought.

One day, that piece of plastic came off and got stuck inside the SD slot when I pulled the card out. Cards would still read, but now I had to physical hold them in the slot with my finger, as they would no longer "click" in. Not a good thing considering how easily these cards can get corrupted. Luckily, this wasn't long before the Wii U came out, and I transferred my data there pronto.
