@rdm22
The timing certainly makes sense. It's pure speculation and rumor though. Best I could tell this was mentioned in an op-ed as early as April of this year in any sort of online form, but I know I've heard that rumor well before that.
This sort of reminds me of the rumors regarding why Earthbound would never get re-released due to the audio sampling in that game (which is arguably more egregious than Sonic 3's), and look where we are now.
If MJ's estate sued, I think Sega would have a pretty good case (he allegedly chose not to have any involvement or credit after the fact, therefore giving up any music royalties that might have accrued) and would most likely win. However, cases of this nature are still expensive and, at the end of the day, people are gonna figure out how to mod this thing and will be playing Sonic 3+K on it within a week of release, regardless.
@Dr_Corndog I should clarify. I didn't mean cost to consumer, I mean that these companies get more of the money when they sell their own collections than doing it through a Nintendo service, with Nintendo's in-house emulator code, servers, etc.
All great stuff... great stuff that I already have on the Wii VC.
Unfortunately, in a post-VC world with every publisher now wanting to offer things in their own collections, (for more $$$) this is about all we're likely to get. It's the same reason the NES side of things has been so meager.
@DavidMac
It's so mind-boggling to me that that game has been absent from pretty much every Genesis retro re-release collection. I think the most recent time it was re-released at all was on the Wii Virtual Console almost a decade ago.
I'll probably hold off from getting it. I've maybe only had a handful of times that I've run out of battery on my Switch and had no means of recharging it.
Now my brother-in-law wants a Switch, and he's really trying to make sure he gets this one.
Why does this show it was updated Saturday... and yet still has absolutely nothing of substance?
I mean, even by NL "Guide" standards (Lookin' at you Hyrule Warriors Heart Piece guide) this is a whole lotta nothing. Though a screenshot of this page will probably be added to the next edition of Webster's dictionary under the word "clickbait."
If the price is right, releasing them as 2 different versions could be a good idea for people who might have already bought one or two of the standalone releases... except in my case where I have Strikers 1945 from one collection and Gunbird from the other...
@Jackcreation You've probably figured this out by now but in case this comes up in a Google search years from now, yes. The language will automatically adapt to the region your Switch profile is set to. There's even menu options you can change in case it doesn't for some reason.
This is... a great update! I guess they're shying away from the whole gambling aspect of the Spectator thing, (thanks to AAA loot boxes) but at least we have a reason to go there now! Other than background noise...
Even if you're not one of the 1% (at the time of this writing) that want to get The Ninja Warriors, at least take some time to jam out to one of the best first level themes in all of gaming.
I'll wait a bit for an official statement, but this is a great move. Acknowledge the problem, and fix it. So many tech companies could learn a thing or two from this.
I wonder how Tencent plans to get around the whole “having high quality animations for all our Pokémon” problem that’s stumping GameFreak over in the main series at the moment.
Since it's only my left ones, and I only really use them in handheld mode, I'm thinking of picking up one of HORI's wired D-pad ones. Still, this is a serious issue, and hopefully Nintendo has quietly introduced a hardware revision or something because this is something I always have to tell people when they're thinking of buying one.
@graysoncharles I'm with you on most of those points... except, they sold that Pokemon Box Service explicitly stating that it was a future-proof solution to bringing your Pokemon to future games... and that was only the case, what... once? From Gen 6 to 7?
But of course, now you've got all your 'mons up there... shame if something were to happen to them. Better keep paying Gamefreak!
My big question has been what does this mean for their other games? Is the still wildly popular Pokémon Go just going to stop after the next generation or so?
Granted, the two games have very different design goals, and animation was never really one of them in PoGo's case, but even with only 4-ish generations in, there's already some balance issues.
If it's a "we don't have enough time to implement 'em all" thing, then perhaps they could use PoGo's approach and roll out additional Pokémon into the game on a regular basis, which I'd be totally fine with since I normally wait a while before purchasing new games anyway.
It's just still so mind-boggling to me that a game that built its identity around collecting its huge variety of fictional creatures would compromise on that central facet.
Sounds great for those who only want a handheld. I can only hope that they have a solution to Joycon drift, because you’re screwed if these built in ones get it.
I've had this issue with mine for a while, and it has been manageable... until I got Super Mario Maker 2. Mario keeps flying all over the dang place. Hopefully these methods work.
If you've even had a passing interest in Sega's Virtua Racing, Get. This. One. It's an excellent source port of the original arcade game that Japanese account holders have been enjoying for months now! (Maybe now I'll find someone to play online with finally.)
Reminds me of those Chinese bootleg game console listings on Amazon/AlliExpress/Wish/etc. that just slap whatever video game controller, console, or game graphics on it.
Btw, HBO, if you're reading this, that's not a good comparison to have made about you. You seem kinda new at this, so glad I could clear that up.
@Pod
I completely agree. I've actually been using mine on my Super Nintendo by way of the Retro Reciever. It feels great, especially for those weird times when I feel like playing Doom on it for some reason.
@Gs69
You're better off just making a Japanese eShop account, grabbing a code from PlayAsia, and buying it that way. The whole game will automatically be in English when you play it so there's really no point in waiting.
Which begs the question, why don't they just release both Japanese and English versions at the same time, if they are 100% the exact same code?
It's China so it could be literally anything. It could be official, or it could even be one of those Android devices stuffed into a Nintendo console shell a la GPDXD.
@60frames-please The 1TB card just hit the market. Give it time. The price of flash memory is dropping like crazy.
That said, be careful. I've already gotten reports of some off-brand Chinese manufacturers selling 1TB SD cards that are actually much less and are just formatted in such a way that makes it seem like they are, which will lead to data corruption.
Aww, why did they have to have Arms and Splatoon 2's online events end at about the same time? Ah well, not like there's any shortage of other games I could be playing through right now...
Reminds me of a slightly broken SD card I tried to put in my Wii once, back when I was younger and stupider about these kinds of things.
A bit of plastic kind of snapped off of the top of the card. It didn't seem too bad, as I was able to snap it back into place, and it went in and read like it normally would. Crisis averted, or so I thought.
One day, that piece of plastic came off and got stuck inside the SD slot when I pulled the card out. Cards would still read, but now I had to physical hold them in the slot with my finger, as they would no longer "click" in. Not a good thing considering how easily these cards can get corrupted. Luckily, this wasn't long before the Wii U came out, and I transferred my data there pronto.
Nice! This was on my Rocket League wishlist for sure.
Now if they could just fix the Switch versions' "Stuck in Spectate" glitch that effectively locks us out of games until a goal is scored a lot of the time, that would be great.
