Not so long ago, we revealed that Taito is in the process of reviving some of its key franchises, starting with Darius. The publisher is also developing a new Ninja Warriors entry - with the help of Natsume Atari - which is due to launch on Switch next year.
Amusingly, the game's title is Ninja Warriors Once Again, which follows on from the Super Famicom entry, which was called Ninja Warriors Again. Expect any future games in the franchise to follow this convention.

We'd imagine a name-change may happen before this gets released in the west (the SNES version was called 'The Ninja Warriors'), but in the meantime, take a look at the short trailer above and let us know what you think. The visuals are clearly based on those of the SNES version but benefit from a wider view, larger sprites and smoother animation.

Kind of reminds me of the game "Yet Another Zombie Defense HD" with it's straight forward title.
The Ninja Warriors Once Again, With Feeling
Yes! One of the best beat em ups on the SNES. How cool to get a revival of this!
I'm confused as that is the SNES game, i thought this was a continuation not just a port?
@Jayenkai Please don't mention Homebrew like that.
16 bit style? Nice
But...
Taito, please, work with Hamster to bring Space Invaders to the Arcade Archives line in the 40th anniversary of this immortal classic!
I’ve never heard of the first, but this looks pretty good. Very Final Fight.
I hope we also get the original, used to play this on the Amiga
Yes please
Ninjas AND Robots!!!
I grew up in the 80s/90s... So I'm interested.
Kind of looks like a PSX or even PC Engine version of the game....it's sort of "pixel perfect retro better version." That's kind of cool!
I loved beat them ups kind of.... 25 years ago? Today I think I'm not really into them that much but it's always the kind of game that can make you relax and have such a good time. Streets of Rage 4, on the other hand, is on my radar
Here have my money. Love, Ryu
Also Natsume Atari?
DAY...1...PURCHASE!
I remember there was a game on the 360s Xbox Live Arcade called "I made a game with zombies in it". It also had a song in the demo that went a long with that and also said that you should buy it because "It's only a dollar"
Does this plays like Streets of Rage?
I can't wait for Untitled Goose Game Once Again
More beat'em ups, please.
Beat em ups are most welcome.
Turtles would be good. I know one is head a shoulders above the rest but I’d take a Turtles collection! Although licensing will not allow it - I’d love it
Looks pretty cool. Always down for a good side-scrolling, co-op beat ‘em up. Plus it’s got ninjas! Too much for me to turn down.
@Agent721 Tell you this mate: listen to the soundtrack. It's incredible.
Just... listen

Glad they finally add co-op this time, the original Super NES game didn't have co-op at all. Only problem is there's only one health bar so I assume both player share the same health, if this is so then that could make the game a bit more challenging.
I vote best title ever, again!
Glad to see this happening! Taito did that "Again" thing many times, with Bust-A-Move 2 being called Bust-A-Move Again in some releases.
@JJ286
Kind of. Think more like SoR combined with Kung-Fu, Vigilante, Black Belt, or any of the early Hokuto No Ken games, etc. The action is locked to a single plane, and you have to take out the bad guys coming from left and right. This adds a lot more action to the formula though, with a wider range of attacks, including a sweet super move if you can build up your momentum gauge.
Nice!
However, Taito suddely supporting the Switch makes me wonder if there is a chance to get a Space Invader in Smash Bros.
@daniruy
Damn, pretty catchy!!
@JJ286 Here's a video of the SNES version, so you can see for yourself:
It is basically everything that @SmaMan said, so he gave a pretty good description of what to expect.
Personally, I think it's pretty safe to say that, if you're a side-scrolling beat em up fan, you could do definitely far worse than buying and playing this game, because it's pretty good.
Nice. Loved the original. Day One for sure.
Oh look, another side scrolling pixel art game for the eShop. That is different and original 🙄
@SmaMan awesome, I will keep an eye on it.
I love the SNES version. It's one of my all-time favorites on the system. This revival looks great so far. I will be keeping my eye on it.
Reminds me of Muppets Most Wanted when the Muppets were calling the movie "The Muppets Again" in their opening song number
"Natume Atari" Was that a company merger I missed news of?
Now this is a retro revival I did not see coming!
Awesome!
@Agent721 Not as catchy as this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee1oTJb-7PA
It's also the shortest stage in the game.
Co-op is very welcome, unfortunately I only own the cart of the snes game, complete in box pricing is sky high.
The level in the parking garage with the helicopter was ground-breaking back in the days!
Hope it will find its way to cartridge
"...that Taito is in the process of reviving some of its key franchises..."
Puzzle Bobble, Puchi carat / Cleopatra Fortune, Kiki KaiKai please?!, please?!!!, please?!!!!!!
Ninja Warriors Again? Ninja Warriors Once Again? Wha--? How about Ninja Warriors Gaiden maybe...?
@KingMike Tell me about it, when did THAT happen?
@Enigminator
Damn, more catchy tunes! It’ll be fun to play this when it comes out!
I remember the original arcade version. It had a huge three monitor setup.
I love the SNES version. So simple, so repetitive, yet so incredibly satisfying. It's like a side -scrolling Dynasty Warriors in that you constantly mow down troop fodder
@TheOpponent
Needs more songs about vampires.
@BalloonFighter The SNES game was more of a remake/sequel thing. The PC-Engine and Sega CD got more direct ports of the original arcade game.
The SNES Ninja Warriors actually feels a lot like the first SNES Power Rangers game. It's quite possible the same people at Natsume could've made both games. (as much as Natsume made their own games, they also did a lot of contract work for other companies)
@ThanosReXXX thanks.
@JJ286 You're welcome.
Looks great!
