Re: Soapbox: The SNES Classic Edition Pre-Order Farce Proves Nintendo Hasn't Learned A Thing

SmaMan

2 minutes? That's quick... too quick.

While yes, in a perfect world, Nintendo would be able to produce enough to meet demand, (I still fault them for not adequately warning us of this random pre-order time window) I say the fault lies with the retailers for not bot-proofing their websites, and/or limiting the quantity that people could buy. In a way, these retailers have welcomed the scalpers in with open arms. Nintendo has little control on their product allotment once it gets handed over to the retailers.

@Nagi_Nagisa
You're not wrong. I just can't quite get past the whole "bosses don't blink when damaged" thing, which is kind of needed in this game as it's not always clear when you're hitting their weak points. That, and mid-level loading screens can just jump into a lake and get eaten by an orca... the same one that ate the classic controller support.

Re: Review: Metal Slug 2 (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

SmaMan

@MetalKingShield
Just my personal opinion, and I'm having a hard time putting it into words, but I kind of like that Metal Slug 2 has its own unique, grounded feel to it. In contrast, Metal Slug X is a crazy, at times silly, beast that doesn't always know when to calm down. In X, the bosses are all in a different order. Different enemies that appear later in the game show up sooner, and vice versa. In that sense, X almost assumes you've played 2 to get its crazy humor and onscreen references.

A good way to think of it is that MSX is the "remix" of MS2. Like any remix of a song, there's going to be some that like the original, and some who think the remix improved on it in every conceivable way. Me? I like both. It's a shame 2 has the slowdown issues that it has, because that's honestly the one and only thing I think that puts X in higher favor with me.

Re: Capcom Reveals Ultra Street Fighter II Sales Figures, Is Still "Evaluating" Switch Support

SmaMan

So, Capcom is testing the Switch's ability to move units on two things:

1. A phoned-in port/remake of a game that's almost 30 years old.
2. A long-awaited installment of a long running franchise... that's only releasing in Japan... where Switch consoles are notoriously in short supply.

Call me crazy, but shouldn't Capcom be looking at what successful companies are doing on the Switch?

Re: '90s Super GP Will Be Power Sliding On To Switch Soon

SmaMan

You really can't blame anyone for calling this project lost. This is the first we'd ever heard from this project in about a year, and that was the game's original developer saying they were moving on to other projects.

@SmallFryUnify
I'd get in touch with them ASAP. I did some voice overs for another "indie" game that went through a similar troubled development cycle, only to find out as part of the project's "revival" they held new auditions and recast someone else without telling me. Lessons learned...

Re: The Jackbox Party Pack 1 & 2 Are Coming to Nintendo Switch

SmaMan

It's kinda cool to see that everyone has different experiences with each of these games. Tee KO is usually the one that gets the most fun out of my family/friend gatherings (mainly because my sister's a graphic designer for a living) The only real dud for us out of Pack 3 seems to be Trivia Murder Party (which I happen to enjoy myself) since the dark sense of humor doesn't seem to get over too well.

Re: Random: Internet Reacts Badly To The New Snake Pass Menu Icon

SmaMan

...I don't get it.

I mean they just made the snake's head more prominent. Why are people just now crying "UGLY"? I never found the character too appealing myself, but is this really something to to get outraged over?

I think I might actually agree with the others who say "slow news day" for once.

Re: Video: Let's See What Star Fox 2 Might Offer on the Super NES Classic Edition

SmaMan

It should be duly noted that this isn't exactly leaked protoype ROM.

The one in this video has been patched with a fan-made English translation that also took out a lot of the debug functions like preventing all damage to Corneria. It also fixed a lot of bugs/incomplete bits. Not to mention they redesigned the logo.

It's a fan-made "spit and polish" to "complete" the game as they saw fit at the time. The actual leaked prototype is in Japanese and a whole lot buggier.

Re: Review: Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

SmaMan

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I'd say the Neo Geo library has the highest ratio of quality titles to crap titles of any console. Often, certain games are not worth playing because a superior version of it was released later. (Example: Fatal Fury 2 and Fatal Fury Special) Even the "bad" ones usually have some redeeming qualities.

Re: Star Fox 2 Release Has Nothing To Do With Super FX Patent Expiring, Says Argonaut Founder

SmaMan

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
It's 2017, a time when retro enthusiasm is at an all time high. People are buying clone consoles and plug n' play devices, as well as newly produced games for old systems, including the SNES. The retro market is a lucrative one right now.

That's not to mention we're hot off the heels of the NES Classic Edition, a success hindered (greatly) only by Nintendo's ability and decisions to produce enough supply to meet demand. (And expiring distribution licenses on games, as some have pointed out.)

Re: Guide: Pokémon Go Raids, Raid Bosses, Raid Rewards And Much More Besides

SmaMan

If I understand this correctly, this sounds like it could be a lot of backtracking. You have to go to the egg first to register for the raid, then walk back and fight the thing, and either hang around until the hour is up, or come back if you won to have just a chance of catching the thing.

This is gonna be rough in the hotter parts of summer.

Re: Sega Forever Launch Marred By Terrible Emulation

SmaMan

@mikegamer
Thing is, Sega already released a crap-ton of Genesis games on iOS and Android already, and the emulation was top-notch. The games played perfectly.

So we know they're capable... they're just being lazy and going the Unity route.

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd June (North America)

SmaMan

Fatal Fury 2 is an excellent fighting game, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend it... if Fatal Fury Special (basically a vastly improved "Champion Edition") didn't exist and will most likely end up in the ACA collection soon.
