Re: Pokémon GO Cheaters Get A Nasty Surprise In The Latest Update

SmaMan

@DarthFoxMcCloud
Caught my first one legitimately when the game first launched. There were so many lures around I know of a few people who got them. I also got lucky and hatched one in an egg.

Now training it is a bit of a grind, since really the only way is to have it walk with you, and you only get one candy per 5km.

Re: Sega Forever Aims To Revive The Company's Past On Mobile, But Could Come To Switch

SmaMan

I was initially excited seeing this launch trailer, and then I remembered about all those Genesis games that I bought from the iOS App Store years ago.

Yeah, I'm done with trying to play these games on mobile. If it's on Android then I can probably get them running on my GPD XD, but then again, I have most of those systems emulated perfectly.

Do let me know when Dreamcast and Saturn (or this collection coming to the Switch) becomes a thing though!

Re: Something Big Is About To Happen To Pokémon GO's Gyms

SmaMan

Of course... now that I've finally managed to get one of my 'mons into a gym, it's coming back out.

To me, gyms aren't really the main problem. (They are flawed and need fixing, but...) what this game really lacks is ways to heal your Pokémon after taking on those gyms. You can't buy potions with Poké Coins. The only way to get them is to get lucky on a Pokéstop spin.

If they could just add in Pokémon Centers... even a one-time daily full heal of your team would be great. (You could even sell additional heals via microtransactions, because hey, it's 2017 and we've all been conditioned to that by now...)

Re: Talking Point: Five Key Areas Nintendo Must Get Right at E3 2017

SmaMan

@LeRaposa
Are we really comparing the lineup of Xbox (which you'd have to already own, so technically not "free") to the hugely deep library of Nintendo's past consoles?

I'd love to have Virtual Console on the Switch. My only hope is that how ever Nintendo decides to do it, it's not as slow a trickle as we saw on Wii U.

Re: Austrian Retail Listing Builds Hopes For WWE 2K18 On Switch

SmaMan

I'm a pro-wrestling fan, and I might get this if it comes to Switch, but these yearly releases are really more like The Sims, but with fighting.

It's a lot of fun to make yourself or your friends or other fictional characters (or download a bunch of others') and have them powerbomb each other. But the actual controlling/fighting mechanics leave a lot to be desired. It's more fun to just let the COM simulate it.

@Angelic_Lapras_King
Why stop there? Lets get 30 together for a Royal Rumble!

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Nintendo at E3 2017?

SmaMan

I'm long past the point where I get excited about E3. Rarely do you actually see game content anymore. It's just a bunch of pre-rendered trailers mixed with whatever LA celebrity wasn't doing anything for the afternoon in an attempt for Ubisoft to say "HEY LOOK! WE'RE RELEVANT!"

You could say I'm jaded, and... yeah, this is the very definition of jaded. You are correct.

Re: Super Nintendo World Theme Park Could Interact With Switch Systems

SmaMan

This reminds me of something Disney World did around... 2000 I think?

You could buy this little, standalone Mickey-shaped dot matrix handheld minigame collection. You'd start with only one of the games unlocked, but when you walk to certain other rides and attractions, (like Space Mountain, It's a Small World, the Hollywood Studios backlot tour, etc.) you unlock other minigames based on them.

And some of them were actually pretty fun! Definitely passed the time when you were stuck in line and made your visit feel more like an adventure!

Re: Feature: Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon - What We Know So Far...

SmaMan

I suppose see the plus side of having this be a 3DS exclusive, but at the same time, I see it as more and more of a downside that these are not on the Switch.

Even if it were 3DS and Switch, this could only sell more Switches. It would definitely find an audience of people who already own the Switch, as many of us have long completed Breath of the Wild and are all the more hungry for another deep RPG to sink our teeth into, even if they were turned off (like me) by the major confusing changes and gimmicks this generation has had to offer thus far.

Ultimately, Nintendo's move to not include a Switch release of one of their best-selling franchises sends a message to gamers that Nintendo's not ready to make this a true portable successor to the 3DS. It could've been a powerful move to do just that, but they seem too set in their "main series Pokemon games should be purely portable" ways.

Re: Poll: Did the ARMS Global Testpunch Land a Knockout Blow?

SmaMan

I only got to catch the last session. It was a whole lot of fun! I always knew Nintendo would be able to figure out how to make this concept into something fun, like they always have.

If any of you've missed it or anything, and aren't sure about it, definitely play it in stores or something. It's really something you need to play to truly get the gist of just how surprisingly deep this game is.

Re: E3 is Coming, Which Means Anonymous Super Smash Bros. Switch 'Screenshots'

SmaMan

I definitely think it should happen, and I like the ideas these screenshots seem to express, but I'm about 85% sure they're fake.

All the timer/numbering graphics/fontwork are different from the current games, for example. I don't see why they would go through the trouble of changing them when it seems like there would be a lot more work for them to do in regards to merging the 3DS and Wii U versions.

(Though I really can't wait to play Smash run with friends on the big screen, so I reeeeeeallly hope at least that happens.)

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Sets the Scene for Mario and the Switch at E3

SmaMan

This is probably the best way to do it, honestly.

E3 as a physical event is quickly becoming irrelevant, (if it isn't already) since it's already being covered wall to wall on every gaming news site. So what's the point in Nintendo flying its big reps out there and reserving a few hours for a press conference, that they can get the same effect by just keeping everyone at home and broadcasting direct (hehe) to the masses.

The demo stations, however, are still a good idea to let the press go hands on with their new swag. Nintendo's getting the best of all worlds here.

Re: Hyperkin's RetroN HD Runs NES Games In 720p, Arrives Later This Month

SmaMan

@8-Bit_Zorldo @Deanster101
At $40 I'd very highly doubt it's packing an FPGA. Those are still expensive, high-precision chips.

Given Hyperkin's history, and the fact that it's using the RetroN name, my best guess is that this is a stripped down RetroN 5 with only the onboard (and possibly license-violating) NES emulator.
