E3 is starting to pick up momentum with Microsoft, EA and Bethesda among the big names to have made their pitch so far. Like every other year the reactions have been mixed - there have been some positive reveals and there have also been cringe-worthy moments. So far we've only seen a couple of glimpses of Nintendo content, too, though that's likely to change when Ubisoft has its show and, of course, Nintendo kicks off its full three days of coverage.
When are the Nintendo Live Streams from E3 2017?
- Nintendo Spotlight, Treehouse and Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational - starting 13th June at 9am Pacific / noon Eastern / 5pm UK / 6pm CEST
- Nintendo Treehouse, Pokken Tournament DX Invitational and ARMS Open Invitational - 14th June starting at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 6pm UK / 7pm CEST
- Nintendo Treehouse - 15th June starting at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 6pm UK / 7pm CEST
The Nintendo Spotlight is going to be about 25 minutes, and the Treehouse broadcasts will also contain some reveals and details (especially in the first hour, apparently). It'll be interesting to see how it all takes shape with such a short runtime for the Spotlight show, but there's plenty to look forward to.
We'll do our usual 'what we expect' article ahead of the Spotlight broadcast kicking off Nintendo's E3 (with predictions on games, announcements and so on), but having seen a few press conferences already we thought we'd put together five key areas around presentation that, if done well, could help Nintendo have a strong E3.

Be Concise and Confident
To be fair to Nintendo, this is an area where it's been a show leader for a few years. While some companies continue to be parodies of themselves with clunky, over-long events, Nintendo pre-records its main showcase every year so it can be effective and slick.
At just 25 minutes we certainly don't need to worry about the company being concise with its Spotlight, so the question is about confidence. Nintendo is on a positive run at the moment with strong sales and publicity for the Switch, so it has an opportunity to take that momentum forward. It'll certainly push Super Mario Odyssey as the must-have game for the Holiday season, and needs to find a good balance in its broader Spotlight show of humour and also assertive self-belief. Nintendo has IPs and a history some other companies would buy for billions of dollars, so it needs to use those assets.
Of course, beyond the spotlight we'll have hours and hours of the Nintendo Treehouse and Invitational events for Splatoon 2, ARMS and Pokkén Tournament DX. When it comes to the Treehouse it's a case of carrying on the usual format, and though there'll be inevitable hiccups in the live shows hopefully the presenters can stay bubbly and enthusiastic. Nintendo of America is now also experienced when it comes to filming and running small-scale competitive gaming events at expos, so needs to bring those skills to those multiple events.

Give 3DS Some Love, But Focus on Nintendo Switch
We certainly wouldn't suggest that the 3DS shouldn't get some attention in the Treehouse broadcasts. We're likely to see some Hey! Pikmin gameplay, and assuming the sign-off has been given by The Pokémon Company a high profile segment could be more footage of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. We're also likely to see a bit of the latest Kirby game for the portable.
Our hope, though, is that the Switch gets the bulk of the demonstrations from the Treehouse team, to supplement the Spotlight focus and those Invitational events. The 3DS doesn't need as much of a push as Switch, heading into its twilight and boosted this year by the natural attention that'll come with the New 2DS XL and those Pokémon titles. The Switch, while in a decent spot right now, still needs to maintain that positive momentum and earn some attention among the noise of Xbox One X and whatever Sony has up its sleeve for its event.
There should be plenty to demonstrate with the Switch, too. Super Mario Odyssey, of course, and we're hopeful of a showing and 'out now' moment for the first expansion to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Other games like Fire Emblem Warriors will surely get an airing, and perhaps Xenoblade Chronicles 2, while there will - of course - be surprises. It would also be a pleasing surprise if Nintendo does deals with some third-parties to show games. A good look at the likes of FIFA 18 or NBA 2K18, or perhaps a game like Sonic Forces, would add a little extra excitement.

Generate Buzz for the Switch Invitational Events
When Nintendo has hosted 'Invitational'-style events they've sometimes struggled to get fans' blood pumping. The Smash Bros. Invitational a while back was certainly a success, but this year Nintendo is hosting its events in the smaller booth setting (rather than a big theatre) and is doing three of them.
The challenge is giving Switch owners a reason to watch, beyond those of us that'll be watching every minute of the Treehouse streams regardless. A downside is that much has already been revealed around ARMS and to a degree Pokkén Tournament DX, with the former out at the end of this week and the latter already having some details confirmed for its Deluxe outing. The exception could be Splatoon 2; Nintendo's Tumblr page and social media accounts have been showing lots of new weapons, but there's scope to unveil a brand new multiplayer mode in the competition.
The Splatoon 2 contest, featuring champion teams from North America, Europe, Japan and Australia, should offer quality play, so that's the angle to push. With the other events Nintendo will no doubt try to leverage the social media followings of the various streamers / influencers that are taking part. Ultimately, Nintendo needs to find hooks that stop the Invitationals from being that bit of the Treehouse stream where we stretch our legs and get some fresh air.

Give the Treehouse Team Full Support
Some in this community can be rather critical of the Treehouse live streams, but this writer will continue to defend and vocally support their efforts. In putting the localisation team front and centre of Treehouse Live, Nintendo prioritises genuine knowledge and enthusiasm over hired presenters. Based on some truly shambolic guest 'presenters' that EA used this past weekend (one said "I'm a YouTube creator" over and over again while showing no actual presenting skills), we'd suggest that's a very good decision.
With 7-8 hours of live streaming every day there will be little technical hiccups, but Nintendo of America should give the Treehouse team the best chance of giving a good show. If you wonder what the heck we're talking about, we'd highlight how the shortened Treehouse presence of two days at E3 2016 was also typified by an evident lack of resources. In previous years there'd been a small army running those streams, but last year it was a smaller crew that was clearly a little stretched. In addition there'd been a bit of turnover with a few prominent Treehouse hosts leaving the company, and it meant that the team couldn't quite deliver to the standards of 2015 and before.
Treehouse has run a few streams since then, allowing some of the team to get more comfortable as hosts, and Nintendo of America has clearly opted to go 'all in' this year at the show. Hopefully that means the Treehouse group will be back to a larger compliment of hosts and technical staff. If so, then we're sure they'll provide plenty of informative game coverage in the coming week.
Win the Battle on Social Media
Every year we get emails and information from companies that analyse and report upon social media trends during E3, pinpointing which brands and games have generated the most interest online. Last year Nintendo did extremely well thanks to the impact of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, helping the company stay in the conversation despite the limited scope of its show.
This year there'll be plenty of competition. Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One X and soon Sony will respond, and of course we have the usual big-hitters like EA, Bethesda and Ubisoft seeking headlines. Nintendo has a chance to compete, though, because for the first time in a couple of years it's carrying strong momentum - it has new Pokémon games coming to 3DS, and importantly a still-shiny Switch not long in stores. Early interest in the system has seen demand outstrip supply, but Nintendo needs to keep its foot on the pedal to maintain that enthusiasm for the system.
Word of mouth, then, will be key. Much of what we've outlined above will contribute to online buzz, traffic and trends. This scribe also wrote recently about some potential 'quick wins' as announcements that could be modest in effort for Nintendo but get fans and press talking about the Spotlight and follow-up streams. Reveals, a few surprises and heavy promotion from the various streamers and 'influencers' following the big N's E3 could all help in boosting the company's overall profile in E3. Generating buzz, after all, is the main goal of the LA event.
Those are some areas we think can be key to Nintendo's success or otherwise at E3. Ahead of the Spotlight on 13th June we'll share our expectations on reveals, before hosting and live blogging all of the live action as it occurs. So, are you optimistic about Nintendo's E3?

~ They need to show that they've 3rd party support for Switch.
~ And that they've a steady stream of 1st party games releasing regularly.
~ I would say they need to show that they can do online properly but they're already off to a very bad start there. Try and fix it.
~ They need to talk about Virtual Console.
~ Above all else they need to show METROID.
All they need is an Animal Crossing reveal and I'll consider it a great E3.
Some info on the Virtual Console and apps like Netflix and YouTube would be nice as well, considering they were strongly hinted at by Reggie (The apps, that is).
Show Mario Odyssey content, give info on Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and announce MHXX is coming West and I'll call it a success.
To sum it up, Nintendo just needs to get their fecal matter together.
This expression got 100% more disgusting when I censored my own comment.
cough what about hinting at virtual console...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE eh? Online for Mariokart8 has been ace!
I'm sure they will up the game further with ARMS and Spla2oon. . .
I agree - a Steady stream of 1st Party games. And some Metroid.
It's hilarious that this writer says the Splatoon 2 invitational contains a team from North America. No no, it's a team from the U.S.. Canadians weren't given an option to compete (and to my knowledge neither were Mexicans). We're also North Americans but the rest of the world seems to forget that. Come on, you're a British site, you should know about Canada. I'm rather upset Canada never got an actual qualifying event, I would have loved a chance to compete.
@cfgk24 Voice chat says no!
Remember the Switch Direct back in April? Nintendo revealed multiple games in under 15 mins quick, and effectively. I am hoping they do more in 25. We also still have treehouse for the big things.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE They sound more things you'd like than things Nintendo need. I certainly wouldn't hold my breath for any of them. I feel they already have a pretty good line up of games for the year, (Arms, Splatoon 2, Pokken, Skyrim, Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 + regular indie games) as long as non slip into next year. Id like some dates confirmed and maybe another surprise title announced (fingers crossed for a big 2D platformer, ideally Metroid?), with maybe a little hint of what lies ahead in the first half of 2018.
They should not spend too much time on a single game; even Super Mario Odyssey should not take more than 5 min max, if not less. Let the look into Mario gameplay take place in the Treehouse streams, just like the Breath of the Wild gameplay Treehouse streams last year.
It's good that Reggie confirmed rapid-fire reveals and some surprises. I hope the Spotlight mainly focuses on info we don't know yet, whether it's release dates for games like Mario and Xenoblade or announcements for completely new games. And hopefully some announcements for games coming early 2018, though I certainly don't think anything beyond June 2018 will be announced.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Voice chat - We have a perfectly good Discord chat group that we know - I'm looking forward to the options the Nintendo App will give us. . . I don't like chatting with strangers online that are abusive so the Nintendo options are great
Only 25 minutes? That bodes ill for seeing much of anything new, quite frankly; some publishers dedicate roughly half of that amount of time to showing off a single game onstage. If you figure on Nintendo doing the same to emphasize Super Mario Odyssey and touch on the likes of ARMS and Splatoon 2, then what you have left might be enough for a sizzle reel...which will probably highlight mostly titles we're already well aware of. Any time given to 3DS here will obviously be taking away from the Switch, which desperately needs to build momentum post-Zelda, because that honeymoon is over for many gamers and now we want to see MORE.
Time will tell, of course (and Nintendo could very well drop a "megaton" announcement at the end of the Spotlight or later during E3), but MAN...only 25 minutes. This had better be one AMAZING less-than-half-an-hour, Nintendo.
Just reveal new stuff or the titles that have only been touched on; I already know enough about Arms, Splatoon 2 so leave that for the streams or for something else.
More info on Xenoblade, Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem would be cool though.
If there is any 3rd party stuff; show it!
And most importantly be brief and quick. Just the important details, fire them off to keep people hyped. There better not be a 15 min talk of the developer explaining how he was inspired to give Mario's hat eyes in SMO.
Oh and to sweeten the deal, based on the maintenance done earlier, they can announce that the Switch OS has a new update with more customisation, themes and apps and is available right now to download (that is in "now" during the presentation of course not right now whilst Intype it....you get the gist!!)
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Virtual Console would be good, especially if they announce GameCube games.
However, don't get your hopes up for Metroid. It'd be cool if they announced it, but I have a feeling they're holding it back for next year or the year after, when they need to re-energize Switch sales. Nevertheless, I'd be shocked if a 2D or 3D Metroid game isn't currently being worked on for Switch.
I'm sure they'll have a "Nindies" segment...it would be great to see new games from Shin'en, Wayforward and Imagine & Form (and no "mobile" quality games please!)
@cfgk24 It's the difference between do-able and convenient. Sure, you can use any number of apps to facilitate voice chat, run these through your ear-buds and than put on a headpone to run game audio ... but that's not convenient, since that leaves you with two devices running, plus two audio devices on your head.
You can gamesound over your speakers, and have voice chat run over your headphone, but that still leave you with two device running, plus most folks (myself included) are not that tolerant of having to deal with other folks game sounds.
Then there all kinds of other solutions you could try to fall back on, like an Astro Mixamp, which still leaves you with several devices, a bunch of cables and quit the bill to foot ...
Also, it's a myth that everyone is abusive online, it really depends alot on the type of game and other factors. Anyways, that is not the point though, as I also vastly prefer talking to friends and acquaintances when playing online/coop, but mostly, I really like it to be convenient. If that didn't matter, I could just use the landline after all
So y
METROID! METROID! METROID!
Bethesda's E3 press conference would be an ideal model for Nintendo to basically follow imo; it was about the same length as Nintendo's conferene, got to the point, showed a bunch of great looking games, gave people most of the titles they were actually expecting and hoping for (outside of rumored but unlikely stuff), was peppered with some fun vignettes in between the games, and I just found it all-round entertaining and enjoyable to watch:
http://www.inceptional.com/2017/06/12/my-favourite-games-and-moments-from-bethesdas-e3-press-conference-2017/
Some stuff to look forward to long term - Metroid announcement would be ace, with a future wave race, kid Icarus, 1080 or f-zero in the works.
More gameplay and details for Mario odyssey and fire emblem warriors. Specifics about splatoon 2 single player and offline play for on the go (bots and some sort of high score mode)
A surprise before the end of the year hd port - deluxe donkey Kong pack or Luigi mansion double pack
And then an epic - it's out there as of now drop, for the virtual console and Zelda expansion
With some indi filler games slotted in here and there
As few known games as possible, beyond the absolute blinders. They need at least two big big surprises over and above the Rabbids nonsense, in my 'umble opinion, to make the Spotlight a success. Like every year really, only they've given themselves less time to do it in.
Nintendo usually does these surprise "we are releasing this on the eShop at this very second" deals. Rhythm Heaven is a good example. I would be OVER THE MOON if they released Kirby Blowout Blast this way.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE "~ Above all else they need to show METROID."
I agree... but I think we both need to prepare to be disappointed
Also want some third party developers dipping their toes, FIFA and skyrim is a good start. Call of duty would be a nice surprise and something big from Ubisoft like a far cry, or other suprise announcement would be nice
@AtlanteanMan Yes, and those painfully long presentations are usually filled with fluff. Length does not correlate with quality. Or even quantity. Nintendo's last direct was concise and showed off many games in 15 minutes.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE In my opinion the whole "we need a new Metroid" thing isn't as widespread as advertised.
@Nintendoforlife I disagree. We need a new Metroid.
Make up for the depressing emptiness of the January reveal. It goes without saying that AAA third-party support is out of the question, and I doubt that many big development houses are going to dedicate much time to the console (even if the sales numbers remain high). That being said, I see the potential to release several high profile PS3/360 games that have never been released on Nintendo hardware; for me, being able to take Dark Souls on the go would be a day one purchase! Introducing Nintendo devotees to some of those games, repositioning them as stellar titles in the portable space, would be a win!
Aside from third parties, I would really like to see Nintendo revive some of their long-forgotten franchises. As much as I would love to see a new Metroid, I would much rather see a new Punch Out, F-Zero, Mother (this will never happen, but a man can dream). I also think that Nintendo needs to FINALLY unveil the Virtual Console on Switch (while they're at it, why not revive the service on the 3DS).
On a side note, I'll tell you about my ultimate pipe dream: a comprehensive Virtual Console, in partnership with Atari and Sega. Imagine a service that spans Sega's entire hardware history (Saturn, due to it's ridiculously complex architecture, would never happen but, like I said, a man can dream), as well as being able to pick up individual Atari 2600-7800 titles for $.99 a pop! I would gladly pay to have a digital copy of Tempest 2000!
I'd like hope that the reason the Pokemon games were revealed last week was because there wasnt enough room to do so on the E3 Video, but....
I don't think major third party support is ever coming to this thing so the key would be a steady stream of Nintendo franchises and some smaller third party stuff. I'm hoping they stay true to their word about having lots to go over as in years passed they've made similar promises and failed to deliver. Even those great directs from the past in terms of how they were presented were often light on content so I'm hoping they have the goods... Although it's pretty clear the Switch launched anywhere from 6 months to a year before it was truly ready so I'm treating this year as a glorified beta.
show lots of games, switch and 3DS, maybe a 3:1 ratio
don't waste our time with idle chit-chat - only one game should get more than five minutes, and it's mario odyssey
show lots of games, even more games, new games, old games on VC, more and more games
last year's Sony rapid-fire trailer after trailer, kind of like what MS did after their XBox one X ln X^e dx by showing a bunch of games, launch exclusive or not, whatever. I don't want to see people talking I want to see game trailers and lots of them.
I hope they stay away from ARMS at least in the 25 minute spotlight. I expect Oddessy, FEWarriors, XC2 and maybe Rabbids V Mario if it isn't featured in Ubisoft's presentation. I'm hoping for 3-5 major 3rd party games being shown off in the spotlight that are "unknown" as of now. A couple teasers of whats coming in 2018 and maybe end with a Indie hype reel with 1 final big 2 minute trailer of ???? To end the spotlight.
For the treehouse, I just want them to be themselves, have fun and show off everything E3 for a couple days.
The tournaments just need to be well organized and hiccup free.....if they are watchable then they will be a nice change of pace for the event
Instead of more hype they need units on store shelves.
25 minutes? That sounds very specific, moreso than - "well Treehouse is supposed to start at 12:30 so we're guessing." I was really hoping for 35-40, let Treehouse start a few minutes late.
If it really is only 25 minutes, man I'm nervous. I know everyone but me liked that quick fire Direct, but this should be a show, puppets, game play, entertainment, not just a series of trailers, that what Youtube is for. The Spotlight should have Reggie and Trinnen and Miyamoto skits. If there's a new Pikmin - 4 not Hey! - I want stuffed and animated CG Pikmin.
25 minutes - Mario Odyssey, XC2, FE:W, I still think ARMS and Splatoon 2 put in an appearance w/ 90 seconds trailers, maybe a montage along w/ MK8D. Doesn't leave a lot of time for SSB4D or really anything new.
Oh well, all about the games, maybe they'll just rip-off 20 second trailers for 75 games. I really want a Switch for Christmas, but it needs more than just Mario, what about 2018?
After the xbox announcement yesterday how can anyone say they want the Virtual Console? Microsoft let you play your old games for free. Why do people want to pay for subpar emulation from Nintendo?
@DoctorWily That's fine, but after seven years it's relevancy is near dead at this point.
In no particular order, Nintendo success to me looks like -
Virtual console release date,
Something free to download for switch owners,
First and 3rd party gameplay,
Massive indie lineup (microsoft did a great job imo)
Console themes and media apps.
And never gonna happen, but, to tackle xbox BC , some sort of Virtual console subscription service O_0
It should be an easy win for Nintendo even without announcing any brand new Switch-specific games:
1. Smash 4 for Switch
2. Additional HD remakes - Bayonetta bundle, Pikmin trilogy, etc.
3. Gamecube games on VC (Super Mario Sunshine/Rogue Squadron II/Wave Race: Blue Storm, etc. available for download the following day)
4. A few third-party titles already hinted at (Dark Souls trilogy, etc.)
5. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime release date confirmed for Switch
Of course, this is Nintendo, so no doubt it will be a massive disappointment and missed opportunity.
I don't think there's any real concern about most of the points in the article... they key thing is the games.
1. New announcements - there are several things rumoured at the moment (Metroid, Smash, Pokemon Switch, etc.), and any one of them being announced would be a major plus for Nintendo.
2. New details - there are several games on the way that we know very little about, so they've got plenty of new stuff they could talk about... they just have to make sure they don't get hung up repeating what we already know.
3. Dates - very few upcoming games have been given dates, and some only have vague release windows... they need to give specific dates or at least narrow down the release window for games that are further off.
4. Third-parties - these are more important to Nintendo now than they have been in a long time... they shouldn't dwell on them too much, but they need to give them more attention than they have done in recent years... they need to get the balance right.
5. Don't force anything - something I've noticed in the past is that they have a habit of forcing more minor games into the schedule just to get a bit more variety when there hasn't really been any need to go into it in so much detail... they should only spend as much time talking about a specific game as they need to... if they need to include them, and there's not enough content for a full slot on the schedule, then they should split them up into shorter sessions (indies are a frequent culprit of this, but I suspect the 3DS might be at risk of it this year with Nintendo attempting to keep it's presence up).
@LeRaposa I think they only announced that you will be able to play xbox one games on the xbox one x. or did i miss something? If you're reffering to that then you can hardly compare that with nintendo. I mean the xbox one x is not a completely new console generation and that's just backwards compability. Nintendo has always done that except for when the game format changed
@TommyRabbit
I agree with everything said. I'll just add that I would like to see a date for Steamworld Dig 2.
Looks like I'll be buying about a game a month for the Switch, which makes me happy. A really good 2017 for Nintendo.
@Nintendoforlife Probably, and that's precisely why they need to hurry up with a new entry if they want to save Metroid. It has never been as big as Zelda or Mario, but regardless of that it's as emblematic as those two and has the potential to be up there with them in popularity. Same with star Fox.
I'll be listening to the audio during my last hour at work. Hoping for more on Xenoblade 2. A Kid Icarus game would be a nice surprise along with the Retro Studios title. With lots of 3rd party support shown already, I think this will be a brilliant E3 for Nintendo.
I'm a little concerned the main show is only 25 minutes. Hope it doesn't mean they're short on content.
Alternatively maybe they are holding back some announcements for the live streams?
Gotta watch the cringey moments of the EA presentation now.
@datamonkey There will be more announcements during the first hour of the Treehouse. Not sure about anything past that, though.
@VoodooTrumpet I forgot about all the buzz in the past about Dark Souls coming to the platform. I'd be beyond stoked for any of those titles, let alone a full-on trilogy! My PC was never beefy enough to handle the (from what I heard) sloppy PC ports, and I've only ever gotten Nintendo consoles, so that'd be lovely!
@rjejr I was just thinking, 25 minutes that better be jam packed with good content, especially considering they're supposed to be focusing on 2017. They really need to stay away from already released games, (BotW expansion doesn't need to be in there, that can be a tree house event) and games that we've already had a lot of coverage on. (ARMS)
Pretty good article. In particular Nintendo needs to show solid third party support, focus on the Switch a lot more then the 3ds, and bring a couple surprises.
Sony love or hate it, always has 2 surprise trailers. They are usually over a year away yes, but the hype that they cause is real for the base. Look at the buzz the new god of war trailer causes, and everyone knew that was 2 years away.
I would love to see Big N represent for some of the back burner IPs. Metro is seems to fit the bill to me. It's known but a lot lesser known, and a fresh take, as they injected into BOTW could put Metroid on the map. I also would like to see some type of acknowledgment of VC in some form, again it could be for 2018 but the i of tease would go a long way for hype and assuring those on the fence.
@AlexSora89 Not to worry, my friend. Regardless of the self-censorship, your comment is still a lot more thoughtful and intelligent than the first one...
@Ensemen No, you did miss something. On top of the already existing Xbox 360 compatibility, of which they also announced more titles to be added, they've now added original Xbox games support, so that's near-complete backward compatibility of all their previous consoles, and they promised upscaling and improved frame rates on those games as well.
@impurekind 100% agreed. Bethesda's presentation was short and sweet. To the point, it had good momentum and a lot of great games. And the entire package that they wrapped it in, with almost Nintendo-friendly in-between graphics was the cherry on top of the pie.
Here's hoping Nintendo can muster up some of their old magic and make their short presentation a completely action-packed experience as well. Only one more day to go...
@rjejr Well, perhaps it's a small consolation, but you're definitely NOT alone in disliking that last presentation. I was especially annoyed by those WAY too visible tabs already showing what the next game was going to be, which completely spoiled any and every surprise possible, so here's hoping they're not going to do the same this time around, but I'm not really sure that they won't.
Here's hoping that they get the importance of real surprises at E3, and not distracting labels during one game to announce the next one before you know it's coming...
Can't wait for that Rabbids cross-over, though...
Then again: that will perhaps already be revealed in the Ubisoft presentation later today.
@ThanosReXXX Wow. that's pretty impressive
@Ensemen Well, at the very least it shows that they are actually listening to their fans, courtesy of Phil Spencer, far as I am concerned.
At least in that, Nintendo should definitely take notice.
Just imagine: GameCube, Wii AND Wii U, all playable on the Switch. That would really be something nice...
@LeRaposa
Are we really comparing the lineup of Xbox (which you'd have to already own, so technically not "free") to the hugely deep library of Nintendo's past consoles?
I'd love to have Virtual Console on the Switch. My only hope is that how ever Nintendo decides to do it, it's not as slow a trickle as we saw on Wii U.
"While some companies continue to be parodies of themselves with clunky, over-long events"
If that is a veiled stab at Microsoft, then I would strongly disagree: they had a great presentation, and we were literally bombarded by games, something that I won't see happening with Nintendo, at least not in number of games anyway.
Bethesda's presentation was also great, so that only leaves EA. To that, I could agree to some extent, since it wasn't all that special, and it wasn't really flowing like it could have. More like stop-motion at times...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The metroid bomb will make literally everything alright. Its been teased for enough years now and enough is enough.
Let people backup and transfer their saves.
Release the entire VC at once instead of dripping them out.
Put voice chat on the Switch itself and ditch the horrible 3 way with a smartphone set up.
Stop restricting communication in games on purpose, you already have the most powerful and heavily advertised parental controls of any console.
Stop having games censored. Don't let Treehouse localize things.
And finally, you got to have a lot of good, new, AAA games that are designed for gamers and not trying to reel back in the non gaming casuals.
Give a few hours of live demonstration with the voice chat hub and maybe even introduce a hub that requires 6 wired connections instead of 3.
@ThanosReXXX and not distracting labels during one game to announce the next one before you know it's coming...
That's what I didn't like. In the live chat everybody was talking about what was upcoming rather than what they were currently showing. I liked the quick cuts and trailers, but drop the list screen, just say "That was Hey Pikmin coming out in June. Next up, a new game for Switch."
And Rabbids is done now. I think it looks good, but tactical shooters, turn based commands, whatever, aren't my thing. Nice to have a new game with a date though, helps to fill out the 2017 calendar.
@ThanosReXXX
What's up with all the Irish bashing?
@rjejr Yeah, it certainly was very distracting. I also caught myself looking at it all the time, even though I didn't want to, but it sort of drew my eyes towards it and as a consequence, I didn't enjoy the trailers as much as I could have, and of course the surprise of what would come next was completely ruined.
As for Ubisoft: I was actually pleasantly surprised by the Mario + Rabbids game, while my initial thought was only "please, no", so that impression has definitely improved.
I also liked the robots/spaceship game. When the trailer started, I was thinking it looked interesting, but when the JoyCon Grip came into view, I was actually taken by surprise. I hadn't expected something like that to come to the Switch.
I do fear for Beyond Good & Evil 2, though. Even though it was only a trailer, it looked far too big and good for it to be that Nintendo exclusive that so many of us are all hoping for.
Then again: there is supposed to be a surprise announcement in the Nintendo presentation tomorrow, so who knows.
Although if you ask me, if there truly is a surprise announcement, it will be something from Retro Studios or Platinum Games.
Fingers crossed, I guess...
@AlexSora89 No bashing, just giving you a compliment and in the same breath pulling his leg a bit.
His comment was more about his personal wishes, which is not what this thread was about, hence the comment, but it probably looks worse than was intended.
@ThanosReXXX
You're just getting cocky because you know you'll get a certain glove within the next 12 months.
@AlexSora89 With the current state of affairs in my personal life, I would probably just sell that for a boatload of cash...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE please tell me how Nintendo has failed at online? Their virtual console is the best out there along with no hiccups on multiplayer online u like Sony's downtime and getting hacked all the time. Nintendo has not failed in the least at online services. If anything they have excelled in that area.
If Nintendo doesn't have Monster Hunter World, I will be disappointed but understanding.
If Nintendo doesn't at least have MHXX for the West?
R I O T
If there's one game that strikes me as genuinely likely to be announced, it's a new Luigi's Mansion for Switch. Enough time has passed since Dark Moon, the series has certainly been successful enough to warrant a third entry, and apparently Super Nintendo World at Universal is even including a Luigi's Mansion ride. I have a hard time believing they're going to make a ride based on a subseries they don't plan to continue.
I also feel like a new Dr. Mario for Switch is inevitable, since the Switch is such a perfect fit for it.
Or......show us games.
Metroid needs... NEEDS to happen. And a proper one at that. A new first person Metroid would be incredibly ideal.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nintendo has got some 3rd party support, but serious third party support will probably have to wait a year and will be contingent on Switch sales and the sales of games like Skyrim. Right now, Nintendo has to do most of the heavy lifting with first party exclusives, Gamecube/Wii/Wiiu ports and external projects financed by Nintendo.
I think genuinely the only thing that will get me to buy a switch is first person metroid game, or a new Chrono game but that one i can chalk off the list
@SLIGEACH_EIRE SPOT ON DUDE! If they accomplished those 5 things, it would be a very successful E3 for Nintendo!
Nintendo must actually get right four key areas at this year's E3. The four areas being announcements of these games:
Otherwise Nintendo is doomed forever.
Not to much focus on Mario vs Rabbids. The game didn't look bad, but the Rabbids are awful. Its a totally different kind of humor. A very strange choice if you ask me.
@AlexSora89
Love your choice of word. Have to remember for the future to avoid a telling off.
@cfgk24 I agree totally have had a great time on the switch and wiiu. Far better experience online with Nintendo than Microsoft and guess what no dash boarding.
@ThanosReXXX
That thing would make for some damn fine scalping on eBay.
@easygoingthief
Censorship can be a great source of fun. Just ask the Animaniacs.
@easygoingthief What is 'Dashboarding" ? lol
@cfgk24 Dash boarding is done by using a hack to stop the game mid play and everyone loses their points. Very popular in the call of duty games on the xbox.
@easygoingthief Seriously? Who would do such a thing wtf?
Trolls and losers basically. When I play on the Nintendo servers I enjoy myself more. On the Microsoft servers I get stressed as there is more abuse. Really don't want nintendo to introduce in game chat.
