We're sure you all recall the discovery of the SNES PlayStation - who could forget that earth-shattering event, right? However, in the months that have past the system has faded into memory, so it's a good job we have Ben Heck to remind us of its existence.
The hacking genius has been working tirelessly to get the console in full working order. We already know that the cartridge slot is functional, but the CD-ROM drive has remained off-limits - until now.
The video above shows the fascinating process Heck used to test the hardware, figure out what the chips do and finally get the machine to accept software - quite a feat when you consider that no games exist for the console (none that we know of, anyway) and the games which do exist have been developed using emulators and have never been tested on the original hardware.

Why would you modify a one of a kind piece of gaming history like that?
@ALinkttPresent If I knew what I was doing and could get a piece of gaming history operational I would in a heartbeat
@ALinkttPresent He hasn't modified anything - he's fixed it. Two different things.
Who's going to strike the first lawsuit, Nintendo or Sony?
@AlphaJaguar No-one. He is fixing it for his own personal use. As long as he never distributes it there can be no lawsuit
It took a while but cool I guess. It would be a difficult thing to do I'd say.
It's like a CDX now, but no games. It's a shame the SNES never had its Sega CD moment, I'm a huge fan of the 16 bit + CD music combo
so cool. its like the history that never was. its weird to think where we might be today if Sony and Nintendo had gone through with it.
Got to get up close and personal with this thing at a convention in OKC this weekend.

P.S. All these years and this is how I'm showing everyone my real face?
Dammit and here I was hoping for them to pop in a PlayStation game for the thing.
Now all we need is for Ninty to release the SNES Playstation Mini
@retro_player_22 I hope you're not serious: it was only ever designed to play SNES games on CD, not anything above 16 bit.
@ALinkttPresent There is a major difference between modding and fixing the device to get it to work as intended.
A Nintendo system that could play music cds, crazy how this may be the only one out there with that capability.
I watched the whole thing and loved every nerdy bit about it.
I am just fascinated with older technology.
If any of you like to watch shows on older technology. I recommend watching The Computer Chronicles.
I wonder how we would be now if this was a thing back then.
Ben Heck always has some nicely skilled work to show! Wasn't he the one modding XBox 360's into a clam-shell laptop a while back as well? That was an amazingly slick design.
@NinChocolate If the SNES had a Sega CD moment does that mean the N64 had to be the Saturn moment?
At least we had to wait for WiiU for that
@Gridatttack Maybe Mega Nintendo Entertainment System 3 would be the go-to place to play Call of Duty and Madden on, and Sonic would have been abandoned 15 years ago
@Gridatttack Well, if they hadn't stabbed each other in the back, then there probably would never have been any separate Sony console, and they would still have been working together.
Maybe not to this day, but at least for years to come after the release of the device, and of course also depending on the success of it.
And that in and of itself might also have meant that there would never have been an Xbox, because Microsoft only got into the game because Sony showed them that someone other than Nintendo or Sega could actually be successful in the gaming industry and that there was some money to be made there.
They probably never would have picked up on that if the "Nintendo Playstation" would have become a reality...
The system could probably do with a little bit of bleaching too, just so it looks as "new" as it now work.
@ThanosReXXX "Well, if they hadn't stabbed each other in the back, then there probably would never have been any separate Sony console, and they would still have been working together."
I kind of imagine the 90's console wars as an IRL Japanese rendition of Romeo & Juliet.
By Act 3 everyone kills each other and the scene closes with everyone dead on the floor
@ThanosReXXX Also, MS didn't get into it because Sony showed them someone else could be successful. They got into it because they saw PS2 eating at the traditional PC gaming base which was at the time fueling a large portion of Wintel PC/Windows sales, and eroding heavily at the DirectX monopoly on rendering APIs that locked gaming to the Wintel platform as it was migrating more toward OpenGL. The "DirectX Box" was designed to stem the tide of that shift, secure DirectX as the standard among developers, and Trojan Horse the Windows platform into the burgeoning living room space. Watching Sega go down in flames merely gave them the opening to do it. Ultimately they've lost a boatload of money, directly, for trying, but indirectly probably succeeded in their goal of keeping DX relevant and locked to Windows.
If Nintendo Playstation had been a thing, it would have either continued in its Nintendo philosophy and never really confronted PC gaming's market and dev base as Sony did, or it would have become what Playstation became and put Microsoft in the exact same position. 50/50.
@NEStalgia Well, the end result was the same regardless. I wasn't using "Sony showed them" as a literal term, but more as a "because of Sony" so whatever the underlying reason was, in the end it meant that Sony going solo also instigated the rise of Microsoft as a serious contender in the video game console industry.
Something that otherwise would probably never have happened...
@NEStalgia It would never have been that 50/50 situation either: Nintendo would have remained leading in design and development of the games. The current developers and games portfolio that Sony has, was only made necessary because of them being on their own.
With their collaboration with Nintendo, their ONLY role was doing the hardware part, NOT the games so unless Sony would have had the desire to make games or if they would have put their foot down, they would have never gotten into that part of the industry.
And that would probably have resulted in another falling out, because Nintendo wouldn't have accepted them putting their foot down, so it would simply have been another branch of the same path that they're on now...
@ALinkttPresent considering this thing was likely fully functional when it was first made and considering it was already modified to disable functionality after the fact, what they're doing is more like a proper restoration. This thing was meant to work correctly. I suspect it now has more value, both in terms of possible sale price, as well as personal value to the owners.
@ThanosReXXX "With their collaboration with Nintendo, their ONLY role was doing the hardware part, NOT the games so unless Sony would have had the desire to make games or if they would have put their foot down, they would have never gotten into that part of the industry."
Sort of true, but technically only in our theory worlds. The reality of it as we all know now was that Sony's real angle was to usurp Nintendo's software royalties and IP ownerships indirectly until they really controlled all of it. So they actually DID intend to do software, quietly by puppeteering Nintendo. Which is the reason it was killed before it started, of course. "Hardware only" was, apparently, a ruse.
@NEStalgia I was obviously talking about Nintendo holding the reigns: they only wanted Sony's CD player and their sound chips, other than that, they had no use for them and they wouldn't have let them "usurp" software development, so regardless of theory or reality, Nintendo was never going to let that fly, which is why I already said that the outcome would then simply have been another falling out.
Much like some unavoidable faith that, regardless of the path you choose, always has the same ending. So, apparently, the Sony Playstation was meant to be. I could have done perfectly well without it, although I do thank Sony for opening my eyes to the Xbox 360: I had a blast with that system, and I still do from time to time...
@samuelvictor Ah... the Sega Dreamcast... my precious...
I thought of mentioning it, but decided against it because it would only muddy the waters of the conversation at hand.
And the main topic of our discussion was how the Playstation came to be, and the Dreamcast had no influence on that. And the Windows CE thing was just a license agreement, it was still very much a Sega console, luckily...
@ThanosReXXX LOL. Oh, Playstation's not so bad. Sony Corp is. I'd love to be able to join you in hating it, but then I remember XBox's hardware and can't quite do that
@samuelvictor Well, the partnership for Windows on the DC IS actually part of the creation of the XBox. When MS was designing the XBox, after Sega announced their exit, MS hired them to help design the OG XBox. So the OG Xbox actually IS partly a Sega console. Which explains why it had proper exclusives and JRPGs, and later XBoxen do not.
@NEStalgia Yeah, I know I'm alone. They (Sony Corp) screwed me over three times, so that's three strikes, and you know what follows...
I've never let them back in again since, regardless of whether I would have really liked to play some of those games. Luckily I have friends that have Playstations, so I did get to play some of them, but I'll never buy their hardware again.
And although the current Xbox is having a troubled path, the Xbox 360 had some truly great games, and most of the multi-platform games were considerably better on Microsoft's console, so unless you liked Sony's exclusives better back then, the Xbox 360 was the better choice, both for the games and the online environment.
Sony has learned, and still has some backstabbing skills as well, as seen in how they capitalized on Microsoft's failure of a launch, but other than that, I would sooner buy a One S or a Scorpio than a PS4. Admittedly also because I've been saving up all those free Xbox One games by means of my Xbox Live Gold subscription, so I would like to be able to play these sometime...
@samuelvictor I wouldn't be surprised at ALL if Sony used some of their underhanded methods to glean some knowledge from Nintendo back in the day, to get them started on the trajectory towards the PS1.
They probably just took the original idea of the CD-ROM drive and upgraded the rest of the hardware to improve upon the original idea that they had when partnered with Nintendo.
And although it is true that Sega helped Microsoft with the original Xbox, I never thought it was the next Dreamcast. It has an entirely different feel to it, if you understand what I'm trying to say.
Microsoft wanted to be more gritty, more mature, and so on. Sega, and especially the Dreamcast, was more about giving you the arcade experience at home, almost like the Neo Geo did in the decade before that.
And Sony more than likely had some backup plans to acquire and secure their first foothold in the game console industry, and there were indeed plenty of examples on how NOT to do that.
I remember being very interested in a 3DO back in the day, but boy did they mess up, and not just a little...
@ThanosReXXX "I wouldn't be surprised at ALL if Sony used some of their underhanded methods to glean some knowledge from Nintendo back in the day, to get them started on the trajectory towards the PS1"
Impossible! Not Sony! They would never resort to underhanded methods!
"Microsoft wanted to be more gritty, more mature, and so on. " Microsoft didn't really have a feel for what they were going for, they were literally just providing a console device to play PC games. And they were wildly successful (if not profitable in the slightest.) Look at the games and studios making console games now? They're all PC devs bringing what used to be PC games. Even Switch is getting Elder Scrolls. DC wasn't really "about" bringing the Arcade home so much as that's the only thing Sega actually had rights to reliably provide after burning every other bridge with Saturn. So it was cool for arcade fans, though there weren't many left by then, but it was really just what they actually had more than a direction they planned.
That was a cool era though. So many competing (and failing consoles) between Jaguar, 3DO, Neo Geo, Wonder Swan (ok that was really Game Boy 2.0).
@NEStalgia "Impossible! Not Sony! They would never resort to underhanded methods!"
Yeah, just look at the original PSX controller! It's totally new and innovative and not just a slightly tweaked SNES controller!
Yay? It works but there's nothing to do with it? I guess it's a nice personal accomplishment for him, even though he has no way of truly knowing it works since there's no games to test on it.
@countzero And dual analogs and rumble retrofitted was, like, always planned!
@NEStalgia Oh man, sometimes it really does feel like you're just here to dispute everything I say...
If I didn't enjoy you're other posts not directed at me so much, we would have some major headbutting going on...
But all joking aside, I stand by what I said. It doesn't matter if they were PC games or PC developers or not: Microsoft wanted the bigger, more mature audience, and their marketing and commercials spoke volumes towards that fact.
And the Sega Dreamcast (you can't use abbreviations for such a great device, you blasphemer! ) definitely was for the console grade experience at home. Both that and sports games, although they made huge mistakes and failed to secure the necessary licenses, resulting in them having to create their own sports titles, but the arcade part was definitely there, what with all of Capcom's, Namco's and Sega's own titles.
@NEStalgia "And dual analogs and rumble retrofitted was, like, always planned!"
But to be fair to Sony at least they improved the things they copied. The analog sticks were pretty decent and a step up from the N64.
@duffmmann Don't forget the Panasonic Q: http://nintendo.wikia.com/wiki/Panasonic_Q
@ThanosReXXX
Wow, you have different story about Sony.
While for me I still put Nintendo as Main Console / Handheld, but now I put Sony back as Primary console (Only PS2 & PS1, Because I rebought PS2 Slim Japan version last week. Yay.... ) .
I still don't really like PS4 for some reason but some Indies in physical, FF XII The Zodiac Age, Portal Knights in Physical release first, tempating me to buy that game on PS4 version.
Oh well, I will put PS4 as Secondary console consider only a few physical games I can own so far, compared with Japan PS2 that I got DDR series, K-1 series, Street Fighter series, Guitar Freaks & DrumMania series, Some Odd Japanese PS2 games, etc.
@ThanosReXXX
Oh, btw.
I never like xbox whatsoever but if I have to choose which xbox machines to play, I think I will choose White XBOX 360 USA version with these games :
1. The Sims 3
2. The Sims 3 Pets
3. Little League series 2010 Baseball (Ugh... I don't like the cover. Looks cheap and unrecognizable, Unlike Wii version)
4. Dance Dance Revolution Universe
5. Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2
6. Dance Dance Revolution Universe 3
7. Dance Evolution + Kinect
But well, missing FF X/X-2 HD Remaster, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 / 2.5 HD Remix. No, I don't want FF XIII anymore (especially in 3 Discs). Never want Xbox1 whatsoever. I only got Earthlock: Festival of Magic, Overcooked and Portal Knights if I choose Xbox1 version (Yikes... no more choices, not worthy to buy).
@SmaMan I remember just being in awe when I saw it that close last October in Portland. Such an undescribable feeling to be that close to a piece of gaming history.
@chardir Yeah and watch the lawsuits come pouring in from Sony
@Tasuki - I saw it there as well. Very cool. Maybe we rubbed elbows, who knows. My buddy and I (along with two young kids) cleared the Simpsons arcade game this year, which was on my bucket list. I also played Rescue 911 pinball there a year or two ago. It's a great expo in a wonderful city. As always, straight to Ground Kontrol after to make a full day of retro gaming. Cheers.
@bimmy-lee Nice. I will admit I didn't spend too much time at the arcade last year as I did the year before, mostly I was in the vendor area in between panels that I wanted to see, looking for a good deal. I probably won't go again as my money is now tied up in something big, but it was fun and I would definitely recommend any gamer to go check it out at least once.
@ThanosReXXX Well, would've made a nice joke to put a PS1 game in. I assume if you did, it would simply act as an audio CD (could games that used Redbook audio play such tracks in a normal CD player?), if not give an error.
@Tasuki - The vendor area is staggering to say the least. One could easily spend the day there and not even make the arcade floor. The allure of hundreds of cabinets and tables set to free play is pretty much a dream come true though. The Northwest in fall is breath taking, and I second the notion that any gamer with the means to get there should check it out.
This is so awesome, I always imagined of owning the SNES/PlayStation, its also fun of thinking of a alternate reality were Sony and Nintendo are partners in the Video game industry.
@bimmy-lee Haha yeah. I looked around for a bit at the arcade floor but honestly I can play all of those games at home. As I said I was more interested in finding a good deal which I did. And yes I don't know much of the city itself but the area around the Convention center was nice as well as the drive from Cali.
In terms of company back stabbing SONY is the worst of the big three. Sony rarely innovates and only copies their competition.
@duffmmann A softmodded Wii can do it, too. The Wii's disc drive can even play DVD's after being softmodded, Nintendo just deactivated the feature before the Wii launched because they didn't want to pay royalties...
@Meaty-cheeky Weren't Nintendo the ones who backstabbed Sony on the SNES PlayStation deal, which gave rise to the Sony PlayStation as we know it in the first place?
@subpopz Fixing =/= Modifying. If it weren't fixed, it would have just remained a broken piece of junk forever. Now that would have been the real shame!
@ThanosReXXX Woah... Sounds like finding the timeline where Sony PlayStation wouldn't have existed is more difficult than figuring out the Zelda timeline...
@RedMageLanakyn The answer to that is easy. Just keep the SNES PlayStation operational long enough until time machines are invented, then send it back in time so someone can finally make games for it. It's a foolproof plan!
@PlywoodStick I like it!
@ThanosReXXX Haha, well I told you up front that I generally agree with you 50%, rjejr 50% of the time
They did want that "mature audience" but it wasn't so much seeking it so much as retaining it...that was the audience they already had on Windows and wanted to secure the console migrating users to their console ecosystem to keep them where they already had them.
Well, poor Dreamcast, it's not so much they "failed" to secure the licenses so much as EA in particular pretty much told them what to go do with themselves after the whole Saturn launch release date switcheroo. They'd already vowed to never again support Sega around the Saturn launch, so Dreamcast never had a chance at that.
@countzero Sony: Because you deserve knock-offs that are superior to the original!
It's like those old perfume knock-offs "If you like Chanel No. 5, you'll love Engine #4!"
@samuelvictor

Um... yeah.
I own 4 PS4 games now.
But, I still haven't get the machine yet. I play my PS4 games by rent, Thanks to one of my Game Shop owner who allow me to use his PS4 to play my PS4 games.
These are my PS4 games so far.
The reason why I suddenly consider PS4 because... FF XII The Zodiac Age announcement for PS4 shocked me. That was one of my Best PS2 games back to 11 years ago. Also, I consider Portal Knights for PS4 while waiting for Switch version. Before that, I rejected Portal Knights due to Minecraft looking. But after I have watched so many times from Youtube, slowly it grew my interest. Well... but I still say PS4 doesn't have very WOW library games for me with Kiddie taste, so I consider PS4 will be my Secondary machine while I put my Wii, 3DS, NDS as Primary Nintendo machines.
Oh, one more thing. I got PS2 Slim White Japan scph-77000 last Saturday !
Yay.... Now I can Re-Play again my beloved PS2 games.
But first, I have to Rebuy the Original PS2 games that I want since I used to be play PS2 with pirated copies but not anymore.
@Anti-Matter why don't you play Ratchet and Clank / Little Big Planet 3 / Tearaway on Ps4? They're good platformers.
@starfox007
Oh...
Ratchet & Clank I have ever played, but only for 2 hours. After that I didn't feel any engagement with that game, so I sold that and got FF X/X-2 HD Remaster as Replacement.
Oh btw, I bought Rachet & Clank for IDR 300,000 or US$ 22.50 & sold for IDR 150,000 or US$ 11.25, replaced by FF X/X-2 HD Remaster (Used, Very Good) for IDR 350,000 or US$ 26.25. Very great deal.
Little Big Planet 3.... I don't like the Sackboy design. I have ever watched from Youtube and directly watched from my local game store. Even until 5 minutes watched the gameplay, still failed to impress me.
Tearaway....Um, not really interested. Not really interested with the design.
@Anti-Matter You!? Play FFXII??? The game with the suave and slick Sky Pirate and his half naked bunny woman partner in a world full of half naked bunny women, a scene where one of the girls in your party is kidnapped and mortally threatened by lizard people, the princess struts around wearing hot pants and risqué thigh high leggings, and the first character you control is poor yet still as metrosexual and topless as it gets?
@Anti-Matter Yeah well, we all have different opinions, and that is what makes the world an interesting place, no? If we would all like the same and think the same, it would become real boring real soon...
And a choice of console is often also influenced by friends or family. All my friends had an Xbox 360 before me, so when I had to choose one "HD" console next to my Wii, I chose the 360 so I could play online with all my friends. Maybe I would have considered forgiving Sony for their past mistakes and bought a PS3 if they all owned that console, but they didn't, well at least first they didn't, and later on, I had already invested too much money into the Wii and the Xbox 360 to be able to buy and support yet another console.
@KingMike I don't know if it could play the audio. Possibly, unless there are some built-in restrictions. But you could always send Ben Heck a message to ask him through his YouTube channel if you really want to know.
@PlywoodStick Indeed...
@NEStalgia Well, I hope you can stomach the following because it is meant as constructive criticism...
Not always agreeing is perfectly fine by me, and normally, that isn't even a possible scenario since all of us, obviously, have different opinions and thoughts.
But no offense, what you seem to be doing a lot lately is responding in a manner that seems to imply (and correct me if I'm wrong) that what you say and think about certain events is the only true story, and that (to say the least) is not a very admirable quality to have as a human being.
No one likes to be corrected all the time and I always come from facts and experience, carefully considering my comments before I type them, so to see the rug pulled out from under me because I'm "wrong" is not very nice. Sometimes, you need to be able to let things be, or at least add something like "I think" or "in my opinion" to a comment to make it not so much feel like laying down "the one and only truth"...
And then there's always the middle ground, or the "agree to disagree". Like I said: no one can agree all the time, that would either be impossible or could even become rather creepy...
And maybe it is also good to keep in mind that I'm talking from the European point of view, so not everything that happened, went down exactly the same over here as it did in the States.
That's all I have to say for now, because any factual comment I make on either Xbox or Sega Dreamcast will probably be refuted again while I know that what I said, provided it is interpreted in the exact way I meant it to be read, is simply the truth.
@samuelvictor So, more like "Need for a Slideshow" then?
The 3DO probably killed itself by all the fumbling with licenses and who could build what, or more precise: the fact that EVERYONE could make one, long as they coughed up the license fee, which is what resulted in so many models and perhaps resulting in even more confusion than there was concerning the Wii U...
I never bought the original Xbox, but later on, when I had my Xbox 360, I did try to secure most of the interesting old Xbox games that were on that backward compatibility list, and now I have around 60 of them that I can still play on the 360, so in that sense, I didn't completely miss out on the big black box...
@NEStalgia @ThanosReXXX Aaaaaah finally, I've been waiting for the epic cerebral battle between NEStea and Thanosaurus Rexxx for a while now! It didn't disappoint, now I can check one of my comment section desires off the list. Scratches the same itch I got from watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes...
@PlywoodStick
11 years ago ( Starting from July 2006 if I remember) I have played FF XII THREE TIMES !
Japan version first until finished, then USA version, then International version. (Though, I used pirated copies on that year due never even thought about to buy original copies since I lived in Indonesia, the country that sold Tons of Modded PS2 and pirated copies everywhere)
I don't think FF XII was too Sexy or too Spooky (Zalera was really scary). I Love the Gambit System. Very Systematic and Mathematical, unlike FF 13 with Paradigm Shift. The only my biggest complaint was.... the Espers. Pretty hard to be beaten and Pretty weak when being summoned in my opinion. The International version is much better, all Espers can do Break Damage Limit (More than 9999 damages) but still... some weak Espers like Belias / Mateus (the best Esper design imo) / Zalera / Adrammelech did pretty decent Break Damage Limits (Around 11k - 15k)
Anyway, FF XII on PS4 will be my FOURTH play of FF XII, but this time I will proudly play in Original copies. I have saw the USA box version of FF XII PS4 and it was look so gorgeous simple and beautiful, looks even better than USA PS2 cover version.
Well, I think I will have fun with some fun with FF XII PS4 soon. And of course, my priority still on Nintendo. If SquareEnix Ultimately ports FF XII The Zodiac Age on Switch in Physical cart, I will die in happiness, double dip if necessary (Have both PS4 & Switch version)
@ThanosReXXX
Btw, just little curiosity about xbox 360.
I know xbox 360 was Region Lock and has very Infamous "Red Ring of Death" issue.
So, do you think the Jasper version is the Best version (Less risk of RRoD issue) ?
What about Slim version ?
You know, Dance Evolution Arcade by Konami was born from xbox 360 + Kinect, the machine from Microsoft that I have no interest to play about but kinda temptating with some titles that I had mentioned on the previous post. Though, i'm also play some DDR X2 Arcade songs ( 888, Delta MAX, Oarfish, Your Angel) that actually came first from DDR Universe 3, the DDR from xbox 360 and then ported into DDR II Wii and DDR X2 Arcade.
@PlywoodStick Sorry to disappoint you, but no battle forthcoming far as I'm concerned, just had to get that of my chest, that's all. I still like reading his other comments...
@Anti-Matter I'd go with the latest model in the 360 series, so the slim one. I have the original model, and had the RROD once, then sent it to Microsoft and in the space of 10 days it was returned to me, never had the problem again, and it is still in perfect working order.
And there are far more friendly games on the Xbox 360 such as the ones that you would like than you might think. I have over 200 games and I think I could make a reasonably long list of all the friendly and colorful games that are in my collection.
Contrary to popular belief, Xbox truly isn't all about shooters, racers & fighting games...
Also, with multi-platform games, the Xbox 360 nearly always had the superior version over the PS3, because it was the leading platform.
Now, with the PS4 and the Xbox One, it is the other way around.
@subpopz Well, it's been "modified" from a nonfunctional state... So yes, I guess it is "just my opinion" that it's better for it to be functional, instead of remaining "unmodified" and nonfunctional like a statue. Or a fancy paperweight.
@Anti-Matter Glad to hear how much you like it! FFXII gets a lot of hate for some reason, but it did a lot of things well, especially considering a completely different team than usual developed it.
Also... I'm just curious... did you beat Yiazmat each time you played!?
@PlywoodStick
Eh... to be honest, I have never beat Yiazmat both on Japan & USA version due to OMG So many HP ( 50 Millions !)
When Yiazmat on low HP, it attacked me with One Hit KO Beam oftenly even I use Deathproof accesories. And it CUT the Final Eclipse damage from 50,000 became 35,000 (But later on PS4 version, I will try to use Big Bang from Zeromus with very low HP + Doubled HP to make damage more than 90,000 if possible)
So, I left Yiazmat in Low HP, Healed up my party, continued leveling up my party or did something else and when I was in the mood again, I fought again with Yiazmat.
@ThanosReXXX Well IN MY OPINION you're seeing arguments where none exist I think you're still miffed that I dissed Clooney
Most of the time you seem to see arguments I'm not actually disagreeing with you. Yeah on dubs I disagree. On VR I disagree. Most other things I'm generally disagreeing. In this case I was adding (accurate) detail, context, and background expanding your point (contradicting one or two elements of it, expanding the rest of it.) I figured you might be interested in it, and I figure other people following the the conversation might be interested in the detail. If you're not interested, fine, but it's not a personal assault or disagreement with you to expand on the history of consoles just because it was a line of thought started by your post! If it seems like I'm targeting your posts, it's true, but coincidental in that I'm more likely to pay attention to posts from the people who's posts I consider most well thought and am much more likely to comment in reply to them. So I AM targeting you and a number of other people, but only because you're the people who's posts I'm most interested in reading and replying to. If you dislike someone adding details or other information to the conversation if any part of it conflicts or expands on details in your post I can certainly make sure not reply to you if you'd prefer.
The information I provided here is accurate and relevant. There's not much regional difference involved in it since it was specifically in relation to the E3 where they were all announced and the details with Sega's position with other publishers. Mostly everything I said didn't even contradict anything you said, it was just additional detail. Maybe you didn't find it interesting or already knew it, maybe not. Maybe other people following the conversation did find it interesting. My replies are conversational not adversarial.
@PlywoodStick Oh, hush, you
@Anti-Matter You should play Tearaway! It's the best platformer on PS4.
The Last Guardian is also awesome.. And that's it for platformers.
@NEStalgia Oh great, now I feel guilty for reprimanding you, but thanks again for the compliments...
(and good on you for being able to take a punch)
You're probably one of those annoying characters that are impossible to stay angry with...
I understand the adding to, and it's always welcome, but I wanted to let you know how some of these comments come across, something you might not be completely aware of.
If I say: "A happened because of B which resulted in C" and you then respond by saying: "No, that's not what happened, B resulted in D, there was no evidence that B resulted in C" then how could I not interpret that as you correcting me?
Adding to would mean giving additional information, not disputing the things I've previously said.
I said some stuff about the Xbox and the Dreamcast, and all that was refuted/corrected by you, but for me, it is what it is, and that is why I stand by it. Also the reason why I said that we perhaps leave that for what it is, and agree to disagree, because we're not going to get to some sort of compromise on it any time soon.
And I'm also quite aware that my own wording could use some more elaboration at times, but in discussions like these, I tend to assume that I don't need walls of text ALL the time, to make myself clear.
Case in point: I said Sega failed to acquire licenses for sports games for the Dreamcast, you said no, they already screwed up during the Saturn, so they didn't fail, they never had them to begin with. Failing to secure them means they didn't have them, so it's actually the same end result. Just humor me sometimes...
And I said it like I did because back then, the CEO of Sega Europe (hence me mentioning that things sometimes went different over here) did make statements about them trying to get parties back for the Dreamcast and then going on and explaining the reason(s) for all the alternative sports games, so what I said actually isn't besides the truth, and it also doesn't take anything away of the facts you added, so both things happened and both are true, simple.
Anyways, good to know that you're not one of those that can't handle a bit of criticism, would have been a shame to have one person less to chat with.
And who else but you is there to challenge me where length of text walls is concerned?
P.S. I would never be "miffed" over someone not liking the same actor, artist or any other famous person as me...
@samuelvictor True about how Sega also screwed up and such, but they screwed up an existing brand of consoles, whereas 3DO never even got of the ground because of all the "well, go right ahead and make your own box and specs, as long as you put our logo on it".
It sort of was licensed open source development long before the world was ready for it, or something like that, and so little control exerted over it by 3DO's primary management team that it became a convoluted mess faster than you could say convoluted mess...
As for Xbox 360 compatibility: I had to download a tiny update for that once, and after that, I could play a whole range of original Xbox games. So, I'm not really convinced that this would fall under emulation, and you can even go back to the 360 home menu when you pause an older game, so how it works exactly, I don't know.
Maybe @NEStalgia can "add" to it...
And if you're interested, here's the entire list of original Xbox games that the Xbox 360 can play:

@SmaMan Look on the bright side: it doesn't make for the most preferable wanted poster.
@Anti-Matter You should pick up Root Letter, and I'm mentioning the game because it would likely fly under your radar.
@LemonSlice
Sorry.
I only play appropriate games until rated Teen.
I saw Root Title was rated CERO C, not a good sign. I only allow until CERO B for Japan version ( But not all CERO B I allow due to misrated / different perception of contents)
By 'eck!
@PlywoodStick A softmodded Wii can play DVDs, but not CDs (source: I have one that is capable of just that haha)
Awesome! that's some great news, hope we can see a digital release soon, or at least an emulator for that would be great =)
