Update:
The Pokémon Company has shared a message on this topic, declaring the rapidly adjusted listing as a 'clerical error'.
We would like to address rumours based on a clerical error on the Pokémon press site; Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon are coming exclusively to Nintendo 3DS family of systems and are not due for release on Nintendo Switch. This listing on the Pokémon press site was made in error and is not indicative of future plans. Please refer to the Pokémon Direct for the full details of the game.”
Original Article:

Earlier today a special Pokémon Direct revealed that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are coming to the 3DS this November. This announcement took some by surprise as there were rumours that a revised version of the game - dubbed Pokémon Stars - would be coming to the Nintendo Switch this year.
However, the Pokémon Company press site's page for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (briefly) showed a Switch version listed alongside the 3DS edition:

The page has now been amended:

What do you make of this? Do you think this is simply a mistake, or was the Switch listing revealed in error ahead of an official announcement? Share your thoughts by posting a comment.

AND THE HYPE TRAIN LEAVES THE STATION LADIES AND GENTS. In all honesty it probably was a small leak, which will be announced at E3. But I wouldn't even get your hopes up for that either.
PS. Nintendo with the tease haha:
Silly buggers.
Simple mistake.
If this is real not so sure it's accidental.
Intern just got the boot.
Yeah, I doubt it's still happening. lol
not saying it could happen.
but it could be an error for all we know.
i love to be wrong and laugh at this comment, but im going to keep my expectation low.
@Switch81tch Agreed a thousand percent.
Also, Sun and Moon, AGAIN? How about we just have an actual new one instead?
Don't get your hopes up, don't get your hopes up, don't get your hopes up! Come on, let's chant it together in hopes it prevents the little spark of hope that is this presumably false posting from escalating into a bright fire of hype!
If they're not going to release it alongside the 3DS versions, then I'd rather just wait and have a totally new generation for the Switch.
I'm gonna just assume it's just a mistake. The Pokemon Company and Game Freak seem pretty intent on being nothing but a huge disappointment with almsot everything they do lately and a Switch release would be going against that.
@Hikingguy Nintendo lived a 6 and a half year mistake. It's called the WiiU. Nothing can erase that level of failure and incompetence. They don't get the benefit of the doubt anymore.
This could go either way.
Then again those were all parts of Iwata's many failures. Splitting hairs at that point though.
@Switch81tch Don't pretend to know the minds of the PR people at Nintendo, no one can truly know how they operate.
I'm not sure, I could see this happening, but aren't expecting it at all.
It would kind of make sense though: use the slight re-doing of Sun & Moon as an exercise to get to know the Nintendo Switch as a team. No building up everything from scratch, but just re-doing some textures, draw distance, getting to know the system's architecture.
Release on the 3DS to have access to dozens of millions of fans and at the same time release on Switch to keep those early buyers happy...
There is still hope...
But I don't feel like being hopeful. I'm just going to accept things as they are now and be more excited if they are true.
The way I see it Nintendo are spreading their releases for the Switch out. No reason we couldn't have had Mario Kart, Pokken and Smash Brox DX ready for launch but it makes sense to prevent a game drought.
I could see them releasing Switch versions next year in a quiet month...
though I'd prefer for them to make a completely new Gen Pokemon for Switch.
At this point I'm going to keep my expectations AS LOW as possible concerning anything Nintendo. I'm honestly just expecting Mario to be showcased this year, nothing else. I've been burned too many times by the big N in the past 4 to 5 years.
If Nintendo continue to publish on two formats I'll be pissed. One of the things that made me buy into the switch was the promise of unified development or at least that's what I perceived it to be. I don't want fragmented releases across to entirely different formats. I have no objection on it coming to both, just DS family only.
I think they do that on purpose to generate hype and for people to keep talking about Switch and Pokémon. Don't think it's true though
If that is true, the game is going to need some new textures.
I'm sure it's real! In fact, I believe it's just as real as the Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow, Gold/Silver/Crystal, Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, Black/White, X/Y, Sun/Moon Switch Compilation HD Deluxe Set!
Oh, well...
I will wait for E3 2017 next Tuesday.
It better have more postgame.
Otherwise, I guess this will be the final straw for me, as I'll look for the Remakes of gen 4 & 5 only :/
I lean towards thinking that such news wouldn't have been omitted in the Direct, so my money's on a presser error so far. But if it does happen, I've already said in another post that the Ultras sounding more like Black2/White2 than like Yellow/Crystal/Platinum puts one of them firmly on my radar. 3DS or Switch is a secondary question to me - I'm dealing with a progressively bloated wishlist on the latter as it is.
@OfNullAndVoid for $20 to show love and respect to awesome fans, too.
@nhSnork I first thought it was something akin to B&W2, but it doesn't appear so. Just a doubled tentative on another Crystal.
@Hikingguy What was the mistake with the Dreamcast? The fact they stopped the production ?
Saving the Switch announcement for E3 or Tokyo show in Sept?
@Nintendoforlife
"InsertNameHere played the Switch!
Well, time to go!
InsertNameHere takes the Switch along and barely catches any pokemon on that day as a result"
@Switch81tch That's what I think too.
I'm afraid we can't expect mainline games on Switch before 2018, if ever.
I think it's true but an error in posting.
Everybody here must have short memories b/c DQ11 on PS4, 3DS and Switch recently had a similar situation. We all know Switch version is coming, but you'd never tell by looking at the advertising.
So I think Gamefreak is planning a Switch version, but it probably won't be ready until 2018 as they need to drop the bottom screen and up res the graphics a bit. So they made the Direct w/o wanting to say Switch version in 2018 and have everybody maybe put off buying UM&US. So I'm nto expecting it at E3 either, but I'm expecting it. Having it listed like that w/ the TBA is too much work to be a mistake.
The only mistake I can see is that UM&US will be listed as DX versions or something on Switch, so they'll need their own page listing as they'll be slightly different games. But they aren't ready to talk about it yet.
It does seem like a really odd mistake to make. I suppose it's possible that the PR department isn't told the exact date beforehand (for anti-leak reasons?) so someone went ahead and wrote out "Nintendo 3DS: TBA; Nintendo Switch: TBA," and when the announcement happened, they quickly filled in the 3DS date and forgot to wipe the Nintendo Switch Part. They probably had the logos already, though, so it still seems weird that they wouldn't have the other details, unless maybe they received the logos from the higher-ups at the same time the Direct happened. It's a very unusual mistake.
@Rei well, they did announce a different story. From what I've read, the third editions of past generations just made tweaks/branches to the original plots.
It's a goof up. Stars went nova.
I think they will just do the usual thing they've been doing since the first Game Boy and use Pokémon to milk out the old system. The Switch will get the eighth generation eventually. Probably just an error.
@nhSnork They didn't say a new story, but an "alternate story".
Like in third editions.
If there's Switch versions coming, I hope they announce it sooner rather than later.
Please be real...
Confirmed as an error: http://kotaku.com/pokemon-ultra-sun-and-moon-coming-only-to-3ds-later-thi-1795847363
@Mopati I must have remembered the subtitles wrong. Perhaps we ARE talking "Stars" after all, then. Oh well.
Apparently the person who put the original listing on their site was fired for having too much sense.
Boo!
@Hikingguy lol not really I have a lot more Wii u games then dream cast
Even some office intern working at The Pokémon Company believed that Ultra Sun/Moon was coming to the Switch lololol
The hype is too real. Way too real.
@nhSnork What I can only hope, is that they play again with the multiverse, and this "alternate story" becomes a lot more than a third edition...
WOW! Was never a Pokémon fan ever but that franchise coming to Switch is a huge announcement and will bring a huge audience over to Switch with the concept of playing Pokémon on a HD TV!! Wow
@MarcelRguez thanks for posting that.
While I think this is probably just a mistake, it is possible that a future Switch game could allow the 3DS games to be played on a TV via a wireless connection to the Switch, just as the GBA games could using Pokemon Box... or possibly some other functionality that could allow USM to link to a Switch game.
that would be of ecumenical matter then
We really need to stop putting so much stock into the leakers who think they know things but turns out they really don't. Who was the moron who said we'd be going back to Kanto?
I think it was a mistake, if US/UM are coming out on Switch as well as 3DS, what on Earth does Nintendo stand to gain from keeping it secret? o_O
@ThatNyteDaez The same people who said that after XY? And after Alpha/Omega (due to the tourists) ?
@MysticX Incentive to buy the game on 3DS, then to rebuy it again. Look at CAPCOM, they waited that their upgrade of Monster Hunter was released for a few weeks before advertising a re-release on Switch.
@nhSnork I thought "alternative" was a term for "replacement"/"another way", something like that.
@AyanamiReign Nice wordplay here.
They will sell to us again in march next year. Super Ultra Sun.
Hmmm....me thinks they screwed up
The rumour has (kind of) been rekindled!
Meh. Probably not.
If the corrections are to be believed then
Probably a mistake. Even if it does arrive on Switch, I'll just get the 3DS version since I don't have a Switch yet.
Of course, if they had instead released a new generation on the Switch, then I'd be starting to think about getting a Switch.
While Ultra Moon sounds fine I would rather choose a generation 4 remake if I could... I'm hyped for Pokken and Pokemon Silver though :3 anyone else gonna get the Virtual console games?
They REALLY could've kept this until next week. Seriously. I'm really hoping that they save grace by putting an ACTUAL Pokemon game on the Switch, but apparently, Nintendo doesn't like money...
I hate how companies milk systems for so long. If the switch is meant to replace both home and portable consoles, let it do so already instead of waiting til the last quarter of the new consoles lifespan as seems to be the trend nowadays
Was really hoping the Switch would see a true Pokémon game. I like the 3DS versions but I think the game would look wonderful on the Switch and I'd much rather play it on that platform.
I can't believe people in this thread actually believe these games are coming to Switch. It's just an error... 😒
@Nintendoforlife Hope you're prepared for more disappointment!
Lol pokemon @E3 confirmed 😂
It was a mistake. Mistakes like this actually do happen. Nintendo will not be bringing a traditional Pokemon game to the Switch. Their plans for the 3DS involve niche 3D handheld gaming. They want 2 distinct product lines and revenue streams. Pokemon is their standard bearer for the 3DS. Releasing the same title on the Switch -Especially their Pokemon cash cow - will cross over into a very gray area between the two platforms and would cannibalize their 3DS pillar. This move would in effect cut the head off of a golden cow. Not gonna happen.
I think there's a lot of games I'd love to imagine we're coming to Switch . . . but I'll not get my hopes up for any of them actually happening.
@AcesHigh The switch already is a gray area, as it is meant to be both home and portable consoles
Do people know what a "clerical error " means?
A clerical error is an error on the part of an office worker, often a secretary or personal assistant. It is a phrase which can also be used as an excuse to deflect blame away from specific individuals, such as high-powered executives, and instead redirect it to the more anonymous clerical staff.
Now aint that suspicious, staff were given orders...to type Nintendo Switch:TBA
But why? And more importantly what for?
@MarcelRguez A clerical error is an error on the part of an office worker, often a secretary or personal assistant. This was a user error
@nhSnork stars is a codename used for this pokemon games whether this was for a trio instead of a duo is unconfirmed much less, the leaker is not responding via 4chan....yet.
@SEGATA_DREAMCAST Supporting a system for a while after its successor releases is (in my opinion anyway) good business sense, it keeps the people who can't buy the new system right away still playing your games, not everybody can just drop $300 on a new system right away... (Not to mention supply issues)
It was officially clarified as an error. The Pokemon Company said that it was just an error and the games are coming exclusively to the 3DS only (I think I read that in Kotaku)
I haven't lost all hope yet, but I'm not terribly optimistic. Seeing as the games are devoid of 3D visuals anyway, I would skip the 3DS versions entirely if a Switch version is on the cards. Really, the only feature that would be absent from a Switch release is the facial recognition in Pokémon-Amie. =P
Gen 8 for Switch Confirmed
@SEGATA_DREAMCAST The two units are at two totally different pricepoints and offer different play experiences to the end user. Nintendo has made it clear that they intend to support both platforms. The 3DS is a cash cow and part of feeding that cash cow and keeping it fat is by offering experiences that are unique to that platform. Which is why there has yet to be a traditional Pokemon on any of their home systems for 25 years. Those games do not HAVE to be on a portable system. None of them do. But they remain on the portable system to reinforce the notion of exlusivity. If you move that experience to another platform, you remove a reason for people to maintain support for the 3DS system.
So... if you were Nintendo... would you rather have one system that sells 2 million games or 2 systems that sell 1.5 million each?? (Throwing easy numbers out as example). Having two healthy systems with unique experiences increases revenue potential purely for the fact that most people own both and will support both in addition to people who only own one.
Not gonna happen. Not until support for 3DS naturally wanes and they decide that the platform is in decline or they announce the successor to the 3DS that may have higher resolution, more power and more 3D shutters.
@MysticX it may be good business sense for nintendo, but it doesnt help the user much. The more people spend on the 3ds the longer it will take for them to get a switch. As long as nintendo follows suit with how they transitioned from GC to Wii, everything should be fine.
@AcesHigh i dont care about the figures man! I want my new games! Lol. The reason so much in the games industry has gone down hill is because people just buy whatever companies throw out there, no matter
How rushed it was, or what remake it is, or how expensive the dlc is.
@SEGATA_DREAMCAST Dude! I hears ya! I would love to have a true Pokemon game on my Switch. I'd be the first in line. I just don't think it's gonna happen. I was definitely not thrilled with the Pokken Tournament announcement. It did, however, just cement the idea that they are adopting strategy that they have been for years. Nuffin' new. Still a lot to be excited for in terms of the Switch. I'm already having more fun with this than the WiiU and Wii just based on what I can do with it and where it can go. They just need some killer old school games made just for the Switch. A new Metroid would bring smiles to many a space pirate!
@AcesHigh Dude...for so long we've needed a new metroid. A new prime would be awesome, but even a new sidescroller done in the "8-bit" indie fashion would be sweet. I hope they address the stock issue soon, as id be a bit worried to boast one in public at the moment. The scalping is infuriating (i even happen to know some of them > )
Let me provide my logic for why this will be announced for switch at E3:
Sun and Moon is less than a year old. The difference in time between the U.S. release dates of Pokemon games:
Ruby/Sapphire- March of '03
Emerald- May of '05
2 years, 2 months
Diamond/Pearl- April of '07
Platinum- March of '09
almost 2 years
Black/White- March of '11
B/W2- October of '12
year and a half
Sun/Moon- November '16
Ultra Sun/Moon- November '17?
only a year
This just doesn't seem like something they would do only for the 3DS. Nintendo doesn't have any real E3 showstoppers this year like last year with BotW, so they need to beef up their presentation as much as possible. I expect an Ultra Sun/Moon announcement for the switch.
Alternatively, it's much more than that. Notice how the time between Black and White and Black and White 2 was the shortest of the series before Ultra Sun and Moon? That short gap was probably because it was a side project while the main team developed an engine for the 3DS, which was a year and a half old when BW2 came out. Exactly a year after Black and White 2? X and Y for the 3DS. I even remember exactly when I learned of the trailer for X and Y. My friend told me about it and I genuinely thought it was just another pokemon rainbow at first because of how soon BW2 had released. My guess is that this is to keep their wallets lined while they create an engine for the next generation of Pokemon on the next generation of handheld.
I think Japanese are scared of brjngkng pokemkn to console because of all the rubbishness in games today. If Pokémon start getting extra points for headshots and unnecessary hit points on screen it'll be ruined. They want a simple style. Dont be scared. Keep it simple like and bring its power to the console.
It was in the pokken tournament do video. I think it's legit
@SEGATA_DREAMCAST I think the heart of the matter is that it doesn't help the Switch user much, it seems that there are enough 3DS users still around, or Nintendo wouldn't have done this...
I think the mainline Pokémon games after US/UM will be for the Switch, but giving people a bit more time to Switch over (Pun not intended) makes sense, at least for now...
Hopefully in the future there will be a real pokemon game on the switch. If not this will be the last nintendo product ill ever buy!
