Re: Atari To Acquire 'SteamWorld' Dev Thunderful

ScalenePowers

Poor Steamworld. They were on fire with the first four titles, and then some missteps led to a hiatus of interest in the franchise. I feel like Steamworld Heist 2 was too late, and kind of carries some baggage from titles released since Dig 2.

Maybe I’m just someone who feels like I “understand the games” better than Thunderful, but I can say that’s why I fell off

@Davina_McCall I’m with you!! We’ve had a 2012 LG something or other.

It’s showing no sign of slowing down (though there are some cute features like 3D mode, or when it suggests that we ask “when is Letterman on?” Lolol)

That said… oooooooh these tvs are so tempting for upgraded hardware

I am heading to Midwest Gaming Classic right here in Milwaukee! Hopefully I discover some interesting finds while digging through the stalls, and this afternoon there will be a live taping of Retronauts!

In gaming time, I’m playing a lot of Ghost Trick. I just started it last night and am quite loving it! The story is so fun and the mechanics are unique and exciting. Also it a little bit takes me back to TWEWY in the way it has an effortless “cool” that I would be pleased to be spotted playing on my DS in a cafe.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?

ScalenePowers

I think there is enough there to keep me excited - also Summer Gamesfest is like 2 months away

I’m a little mad that we didn’t get a price, or prices for the upgrades, and also that they kept saying that only certain games are compatible. Makes me nervous.

I wanted a direct to explain EVERYTHING. Maybe that was a poor expectation

Re: Final Fantasy 9 Remake Hopes Rise As Square Enix Teases Anniversary Projects

ScalenePowers

I am not typically a “no remake, just new game!” Person. However Final Fantasy 9 needs a remake least of that entire franchise

It was made as a combination of the SNES style FF games, with then modern graphics. I think what I’d rather see is the harnessing of similar sensibilities where they make a modern looking final fantasy that played like a SNES game. I think it would be a success

Alternatively they should remake 5 or 6??
Or heck maybe this is a remake in the vein of the new 7 games? Idk I’m not super here for this one

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (29th March)

Last week I SHOOK IT UP and talked about 4 games, but this week something amazing happened; Star Ocean 2 became incredible.

Often times in rpgs, especially if that era, the adventure is a whole lot of **things happening** and if the things are a drag then the game suffers. However the best JRPG plots are like a good anime with the different story beats playing out like multi episode arcs.

So anyway that my weekend. I hope you all have a good one!

@GregamanX okay, that’s fair. It’s definitely one of those “you get what you put into it” kind of games!

Thankfully I think the core is solid enough to carry to when it starts getting really excellent! Though at the same time I don’t believe people when they say “once you are X number of hours in it gets really good.” Lol how far are you?

Typically I am a “one game at a time” kinda gal, but lately I’ve been itchin to scratch so many that I’ve channeled @johnnymind this week!

Trine 5; I am just ending the fourth chapter, I reckon it’s only a jump away from the ending by now, I really feel like I have my groove with how these puzzles work

  • Fantasian Neo Dimension; I made it to the end of the first part. I still enjoy it, but paused it not allow myself to be overwhelmed
  • Bakeru, does my heart good! Perhaps Goodfeels finest effort, I love that they have a great relationship with Nintendo, I am the direct beneficiary lol
  • Star Ocean Second Story R; I had been craving a ps1 style rpg,and forgot this was in the stack. It’s a fine effort! I’ve never touched this series but it’s earning its place as one of the great B RPGs

Re: Eight Months After GameStop Shut It Down, Game Informer Is Teasing A Comeback

@beltmenot Any magazine bank rolled by the largest video game retailer can be the most popular and longest running magazine.

They were king makers for the largest publishers, and gave away their subscriptions to consumers who may not have even wanted them (but wanted the perks of being a pro memeber)

Every complaint about IGN can be leveraged against this magazine and more. Though like that website I am sure that Gamestop employed any number of interesting and talented writers, the core was rotten
