It’s odd they haven’t given a roadmap for that yet. Even odder that XC X isn’t on this list given what we know about the game (including a 60fps mode).

I guess they’re saving that information for a later Direxct?

@Baker1000 Agrred. The 3DS/DS case size was perfect, albeit thicker than necessary.

Seems like the Switch 2 logo should match the rest of the text on the spine.

I get that it’s like that now, but the icon as is on OG Switch games has no number with it, and that number two is hanging out there alone.

Worse than a keygame cartridge and digital stores exist. Why bother? I guess if you don’t have a credit card, but it still seems like a total waste.

I will buy both, but probably have more fun with MKW.

Also, two trailers and zero gameplay. I come to games to play them, not watch them. The stories in R* games aren’t that great. Yeah, even RDR2–and they screwed up the controls on that one by changing them based on context/activities too frequently.

I don’t disagree with any of your points, except the issue is the file sizes. Now, you’re not only spending the $70/80 on a game, the system only has 256GB of internal storage.

Basically 4 AAA third party games, based off the file sizes announced for some of them.

The express cards to expand internal memory aren’t cheap (compared to the original Switch options), and we’re going to either pay that, or end up redownloading games constantly, based on what we know about the system.

It’s surprising to me that the console is using emulation to run OG Switch games and doesn’t have a built in way to boost performance the way XBox does. If Switch 2 is capable of boosting performance without a patch/update, they haven’t highlighted that fact at all.

If I pick up a 3rd party game at launch, it will be this one, solely because it’s all on the cartridge.

However, I played through it on Series X recently, so I’m not itching to play it again so soon.

For games released on both consoles, will Switched 2 cartridges allow the Switch 1 version of the game to be played on Switch 1? I think it could work as a key that authorizes a download, but the cartridge would not work.

Same question, but for digital versions of games with dual releases.

Will they sell Switch 2 without the dock?

I’ll probably never pay for the NSO EP, so I’d prefer the mostly superior version get a release.

Will stick with my Zelda TOTK pro controller for the foreseeable future.

This just reads like what they do for NBA2K games to me. A small part of the game on the cartridge, download the rest.

I’ve been begging for this feature. It’s not exactly what I was hoping for, but it’s a start.

I don’t have most of those subscriptions you mentioned. I also never subscribed to any of those services for the “free” games included.

GPU was great back before the Activision Blizzard King purchase, but the cost is too high for the value I was getting out of it.

@Toastmaster you’re still paying for it, and if you stop GPU, you will no longer have access to it.

The past two home consoles have launched with multiple skus, albeit the Switch one only changed the color.

If they go back to how the Wii U was, they could release a lower spec version for $50-$100 less than a more premium version.

In an upscale neighborhood. It’s open world. You drive around to supernatural events/houses in a golf cart with a larger focus on environmental puzzles.

As opposed to Sony, who only surprises us by revealing the prices of their consoles.

They should go back to the 3DS size. No need to increase the amount of space it takes up or plastic it takes to make them. The goal should be reducing impact, not increasing it.

Make the cases translucent black or do something else to make them stand out/differentiate from OG Switch cases.

I've never been a huge PC gamer, so my Steam library is only a handful of games. Had they launched around the same time, I probably would've purchased a Switch and Steam Deck due to Steam sales, but they didn't, and my library on the Switch ensures that it's the main console for me (until the Switch 2 releases).

I'd consider one of the other PC handhelds for 3rd party games/MS/Sony first party, but as time is my most limited resource, I'm holding off for now.

Why is this labeled ‘random’? This isn’t random at all; if anything, it’s expected for someone who designed the character to comment on a redesign.

I think that category needs a refresh, or rather, to go away.

I don’t even know how the Switch 2 feels in my hands. It’s also nearly twice the price of the first one. Pass for now.

@mariomaster96 not only momentum, but overall revenue being down from people waiting for the next thing to come out and holding off on purchasing a console until then. Can't see Nintendo showing off Switch 2 and launching it eight months later.

Products don't need that long to generate buzz, and launching it during non-peak (not Holiday) season allows them to build up to the first major holiday of the Switch 2's lifespan.

This is a no brainer, unless the previous games sold poorly. Any game—especially a successful one— that is already out and available, that is scalable to the Switch 2, will probably end up being ported due to the cost and to reach an untapped audience.

It starts with BOTW and moves on to use cases. Then it shows Skyrim. Mario Kart. NBA 2K whatever. Mario Odyssey. Splatoon 2. It also includes the release date.

Yes, there's less to do now with Switch 2 being an iteration and not a reinvention, but it gives a much better taste of what they think we'll be doing with the system. And the Wii U was essentially dead at the time they announced the Switch.

And what was I expecting? Not much. I honestly thought it was too early in the year, so I was surprised they showed it now, with little to no fanfare. Just, here's what it looks like everyone. No mention of the new features/differences, enhancements, type of screen, stuff like that, none of those details are present here. New software is exciting, but they mostly held that back as well.

What would you give it?

I don't get announcing this now and holding all the information until April. They fulfilled their "announced by end of FY24" promise, but I doubt this is what most people expected. It's fine for what it is, but that's why it's a 7 for me.

@GameName yes, a video game you can skip over and ignore is proof we live in the worst timeline. There’s truly no worse problem in the world than this.

@Daggot Shovel Knight came out for 3DS long before Switch, so I wouldn’t say it helped define the system.

Kind of early in the year to complain about this. Back when they announced they would reveal the console by March 2025, people clung to the hope that it would be revealed before then.

That was their mistake.

The hardware at this point is largely irrelevant. Exclusive Software and how the hardware utilizes new technology are the selling features. Don’t pretend like you know everything yet.

@LastFootnote over a million copies sold as of a year ago. Doubt they consider that a failure.

@IceClimbersMain MS has the rights to Evil Within, but with the studio shuttered it seems unlikely to get a game in that series for some time.

Sony has that game they’re remastering, Until Dawn. TLOU is also horror.
