Pretty sure I’ll be saying “no thank you” to these. The whole point of the cartridge is to have some form of convenience for others to play an game and not have to store the game data.
@DominionGamma I had my Majora's Mask New 3DS XL cancelled from them back when that released, but it was well before launch, and they did issue a $25 make good for the screw up.
You can criticize them all the time. They all suck for different reasons. The article doesn’t criticize them at all; it states what is happening.
There are only a handful of retailers carrying preorders in the US, so unless the market diversifies, you won’t have much of a choice the next time around.
The headline doesn’t imply that. The subhead almost mocks what is happening using a Seinfeld reference. And the article never makes any of those points you made.
If the writer wanted to say what you said, they should have said that instead of relying on a turn of phrase. The rest of the phrase is, “you’re going to get burned.” You can infer a lot of different meanings from that. The goal should be clarity, not ambiguity.
I like the visual design of the game, but it's hard to believe this trailer will generate the kind of attention they want. All of the movement looks stiff and stilted, like a bunch of pre-canned animations strung together instead of fluid and full of life.
Haven’t played it before, and doubt I’ll pick it up now. I’m not sure how Nintendo picked this handful of games out as the ones to launch the system with, but there are a couple head scratchers.
I’m surprised more recent games aren’t included on the list yet, but hopefully they’re working on boosting all first party games, especially ones with unstable frame rates.
Here’s hoping the rest of the first party stuff gets the framerate and hdr support added.
It’s odd they haven’t given a roadmap for that yet. Even odder that XC X isn’t on this list given what we know about the game (including a 60fps mode).
I guess they’re saving that information for a later Direxct?
I will buy both, but probably have more fun with MKW.
Also, two trailers and zero gameplay. I come to games to play them, not watch them. The stories in R* games aren’t that great. Yeah, even RDR2–and they screwed up the controls on that one by changing them based on context/activities too frequently.
I don’t disagree with any of your points, except the issue is the file sizes. Now, you’re not only spending the $70/80 on a game, the system only has 256GB of internal storage.
Basically 4 AAA third party games, based off the file sizes announced for some of them.
The express cards to expand internal memory aren’t cheap (compared to the original Switch options), and we’re going to either pay that, or end up redownloading games constantly, based on what we know about the system.
It’s surprising to me that the console is using emulation to run OG Switch games and doesn’t have a built in way to boost performance the way XBox does. If Switch 2 is capable of boosting performance without a patch/update, they haven’t highlighted that fact at all.
For games released on both consoles, will Switched 2 cartridges allow the Switch 1 version of the game to be played on Switch 1? I think it could work as a key that authorizes a download, but the cartridge would not work.
Same question, but for digital versions of games with dual releases.
In an upscale neighborhood. It’s open world. You drive around to supernatural events/houses in a golf cart with a larger focus on environmental puzzles.
They should go back to the 3DS size. No need to increase the amount of space it takes up or plastic it takes to make them. The goal should be reducing impact, not increasing it.
Make the cases translucent black or do something else to make them stand out/differentiate from OG Switch cases.
I've never been a huge PC gamer, so my Steam library is only a handful of games. Had they launched around the same time, I probably would've purchased a Switch and Steam Deck due to Steam sales, but they didn't, and my library on the Switch ensures that it's the main console for me (until the Switch 2 releases).
I'd consider one of the other PC handhelds for 3rd party games/MS/Sony first party, but as time is my most limited resource, I'm holding off for now.
@mariomaster96 not only momentum, but overall revenue being down from people waiting for the next thing to come out and holding off on purchasing a console until then. Can't see Nintendo showing off Switch 2 and launching it eight months later.
Products don't need that long to generate buzz, and launching it during non-peak (not Holiday) season allows them to build up to the first major holiday of the Switch 2's lifespan.

Re: Video: Here's How Splatoon 3 On Switch 2 Improves Visuals And Performance
@ZonaiResearcher
People complaining about a product costing too much is not the same as people being unable to afford a product because it’s out of their budget.
The people priced out by the cost are probably too busy working to moan about it online.
Re: Video: Here's How Splatoon 3 On Switch 2 Improves Visuals And Performance
@Stormcloudlive Budget is a huge reason for many people.
Re: Yes, Call Of Duty Is Still On The Way To Nintendo Hardware
They have to figure out how to make it fit on a single Micro SD Express card.
Re: Xbox Officially Enters The Handheld Space, But Nintendo Won't Be Worried
@somnambulance
team cherry said that wasn’t true, that it’s only due before the holiday and not timed for a console launch.
Re: Xbox Officially Enters The Handheld Space, But Nintendo Won't Be Worried
It’s “Xbox Play Anywhere,” not “Xbox Anywhere.”
Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - The Best Way To Play, But 'Zelda Notes' Sucks

Re: Video: Do You Even Need A Pro Controller For The Switch 2?
Too rich for my blood when I have multiple Switch pro controllers and they all still work fine.
I may upgrade one day, but not anytime soon.
Re: US Retailers Are Playing With Fire With More Switch 2 Cancellations
@UmbreonsPapa I gave up believing adults were rational a long time ago.
FWIW, the author responded to complain to the manager as their call to action, and I doubt the managers have anything to do with that.

Re: US Retailers Are Playing With Fire With More Switch 2 Cancellations
@eldersnake Backlash like what used to happen at Walmarts on Black Friday?
In the US, there are like four retailers stocking the Switch 2 for preorders, there aren’t a lot of options.

Re: US Retailers Are Playing With Fire With More Switch 2 Cancellations
Playing with fire how? What does that mean to you in this context?
To me, it sounds like you’re saying something bad is going to happen to them, and you’re justifying that response from the customer.

Re: Fast Fusion Launch Trailer Gives Us Our Best Look At Switch 2 Gameplay
@Ramouz the prior comment I replied to was talking about Xbox and their decision to bring their games to PS5 and PC.
You assumed I meant games on the Xbox, but I meant the ones Microsoft publishes.
Re: Fast Fusion Launch Trailer Gives Us Our Best Look At Switch 2 Gameplay
@Ramouz Skate 3 is/was not published by Microsoft.
Re: Fast Fusion Launch Trailer Gives Us Our Best Look At Switch 2 Gameplay
@Serpenterror I think the decision to go multiplatform was made over Phil's head.
Also, every XBox game has come/comes to PC for a while now (I believe day and date), so complaining about that is... a choice.

@Baker1000 Agrred. The 3DS/DS case size was perfect, albeit thicker than necessary.
Re: Here's A Look At The Back Of Mario Kart World's Switch 2 Box Art
Seems like the Switch 2 logo should match the rest of the text on the spine.
I get that it’s like that now, but the icon as is on OG Switch games has no number with it, and that number two is hanging out there alone.
Re: Another Switch 2 "Code-In-Box" Physical Release Appears Online
Worse than a keygame cartridge and digital stores exist. Why bother? I guess if you don’t have a credit card, but it still seems like a total waste.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 On Switch 2 Is "Best Way" To Play Handheld Says CD Projekt Red
If I pick up a 3rd party game at launch, it will be this one, solely because it’s all on the cartridge.
However, I played through it on Series X recently, so I’m not itching to play it again so soon.

Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 'Game-Key Cards' Somehow Manage To Make Codes-In-A-Box Worse
This just reads like what they do for NBA2K games to me. A small part of the game on the cartridge, download the rest.

I’ve been begging for this feature. It’s not exactly what I was hoping for, but it’s a start.
Re: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Has Been Butchered For The Switch Remake
@Toastmaster When you can wait for the games to cost as much as a month of your subscription, that’s why.
I don’t have most of those subscriptions you mentioned. I also never subscribed to any of those services for the “free” games included.
GPU was great back before the Activision Blizzard King purchase, but the cost is too high for the value I was getting out of it.
Re: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Has Been Butchered For The Switch Remake
@Toastmaster you’re still paying for it, and if you stop GPU, you will no longer have access to it.
Re: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Has Been Butchered For The Switch Remake
Headline: THPS4 has been butchered on Switch.
Body: we will reserve judgement until our review.
Also, the headline makes it sound like the port on Switch is at issue, while the article states this is how every port is.
Re: Rumour: Placeholder Retail Listing Suggests Switch 2 Price Might Be Cheaper Than Expected
The past two home consoles have launched with multiple skus, albeit the Switch one only changed the color.
If they go back to how the Wii U was, they could release a lower spec version for $50-$100 less than a more premium version.

Re: Random: Donkey Kong Country's Artist Reacts To Nintendo's Redesign
Why is this labeled ‘random’? This isn’t random at all; if anything, it’s expected for someone who designed the character to comment on a redesign.
I think that category needs a refresh, or rather, to go away.
Re: Another Switch 2 Accessory Is On The Way, Pre-Orders Are Now Live
This was announced days ago.
I don’t even know how the Switch 2 feels in my hands. It’s also nearly twice the price of the first one. Pass for now.
