Re: Pokémon Pokopia Reveals "Peculiar" New Forms In Extended 10-Minute Trailer

@Bats1234 Home video games have become a digital medium, but they didn't start that way. And Nintendo physical games sell at a much higher rate than the rest of the gaming industry.

You act like everyone wants to spend extra money for more storage, or wait hours for huge games to download. Tell me how that goes over the holidays when all of these services get stress tested due to new users setting up their consoles.

Yeah, patches change the games after they're already on the cartridge, but patches take up a lot less space and (typically) less time than a full AAA game download.

People would be content if Nintendo did something they did during the Wii U generation for Xenoblade Chronicles X: allow the game to be installed from the cartridge for better performance (in this case, it's needed, but the point is they figured out a compromise to make it work better for the consumer).

Re: PSA: Don't Expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition To Include The DLC

Res462

@dePaige22 That's definitely one way of looking at it.

After they put out BOTW on S2 without the DLC, it was clear they were never going to "give away" the DLC (which is what you're suggesting) or intentionally devalue the base game, which is the other way you could phrase it to come to the same cost conclusion.

Because of the way gamers have changed their purchasing habits, many of those bundled "GOTY" style editions are no more (compared to years ago). You can argue this is a missed opportunity for Nintendo—and I'm not saying you're wrong—but they value their IP more than anyone else in gaming, for better or for worse.

For me, it's more disappointing that you can't purchase a "complete" physical edition of these games, despite the cartridges having ample space for the game+DLC.

Re: PSA: Don't Expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition To Include The DLC

@topsekret I agree that it's stingy, but far from arrogant. This is just economics. They haven't raised the price on Switch 2 yet despite raising the price on the original Switch due to tariffs, and raised the price of other things to keep the console price down for the time being.

Every company is cutting back now, ditching rewards programs and other incentives to save a buck anywhere they can. If Nintendo put out a complete edition of this game on cartridge (and I'm not saying they shouldn't), it would be close to $100.

Re: "Go Tell Nintendo" - Ex-Blizzard President Responds After Xbox Calls Exclusives "Antiquated"

Don Matrick damaged Xbox the previous generation, and this time around they permanently devalued their brand.

The biggest games they’re referring to were never made to be confined to a platform. You can chase those games at your peril, like Sony tried to do with all their live service games that have all been cancelled (minus Helldivers 2).

Microsoft is all in on games as a service now. Own nothing, subscribe forever.

No thanks. I’m out.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

Res462

The game has been out for a few days. Most of your audience doesn’t play games for a living. Actual reviewers held back their scores because they only had a week to play it prior to the embargo being lifted.

I think you do a disservice to the idea behind reviewers and reviews by putting this out so soon after release.

Instead, it should be “how are you feeling about the game so far?”

Re: Poll: Is It About Time Game Freak Added Voice Acting To Pokémon?

Res462

For me, Pokémon games are at their best when the story takes a back seat to playing. JRPGs in general love talking your ear off, there’s always way too much dialogue, and most of it doesn’t add much of anything. Cutscenes take you out of the experience and make you sit through (or skip through) a bunch of generic dialogue.

If I wanted to watch a movie, I’d be watching a movie, not playing a game.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?

Res462

@Friendly it’s not one or the other, it’s both. That you are unable to comprehend how the two fit together is bordering on being intentionally dense. They asked to put a comment on why, I did. Why you are so obsessed with it, I don’t get.

The package costs too much for what it is IMO; $70 is S2 Edition territory, but they decided not to put one out, so it’s both. They skimped on S2, charged too much, I’m waiting on the price drop as I already said.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?

Res462

@Friendly those games existed before the Switch 2 was announced, there is no Switch 2 edition for any of them, and all of them retailed for under $60.

I stand by my previous statement: I’m waiting for a price drop on this game because they skimped on the cartridge. And no, it shouldn’t be $80; its already $10 more than every other switch game than TOTK.

Re: Preview: Pokémon Legends: Z-A's Combat Shines Brightly, But Its Visuals Are Still Dull

Res462

Fun matters most to me. I get that TPC and GF should be able to deliver a fun game with striking visuals, but for whatever reason, they are not. I think it's fair to want more, to expect more, to deserve more, especially for a product at a premium price.

Ultimately, it's on consumers to change their habits if they want to see real change. I can tell you my kid DGAF about anything but playing more Pokémon.

Re: No Switch 2 "Upgrade Path" For Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined Planned

Res462

@kmtrain83
I understand if people are upset about GKC being offered, and I think Nintendo shares some responsibility for the abundance of them right now (easy way to cut production costs on a nascent system), but the overuse of them is primarily on the third party publishers at this point.

Having no upgrade path is also on the third party publishers. I don't understand why Nintendo allows that as an option.

I won't be buying a new game from SE until something changes. Anyone who feels similarly should do the same, IMO, but that's their choice. While I have other consoles, I play more on Switch than anything due to how easy it is to take it anywhere. I doubt I'll buy a SE on a non-portable console during the S2 lifespan.

Once Ubi came out and said their game couldn't run off of the cartridge and needed the internal drive speed, I argued that Nintendo should allow devs to install games from the cartridge. This is a fair compromise, would eliminate the need to download the entire game (which would take longer than a direct install), and allow publishers to use cheaper media to produce their games. I think this is the best option we can hope for, and hopefully Nintendo wises up about it sooner rather than later.

Again, I think this situation is entirely on SE; they could allow you to buy the S1 cartridge and upgrade (paid or otherwise) to the S2 edition. There is really no difference there, you’re not losing the price difference if there is one, and it allows people who don’t have a S2 yet to know they can get a version that can take advantage of the system in the future if they wish. SE seem uninterested in doing anything beneficial for their customers, and seem more interested in hurting their own sales IMO.
