Re: Talking Point: Our 2026 Nintendo And Switch 2 Predictions

Plenty of third party ports that have yet to be announced. RE4 remake. Silent Hill 2 remake. MGS Delta. The Jedi series from Respawn. Still waiting to see what happens with Elden Ring.

Microsoft has been mostly MIA, but that may be Nintendo keeping a competitor at bay by not giving them dev kits ahead of time.

I don’t think Nintendo will have a light year. Maybe it won’t be major franchise heavy, but they’ll probably still publish more new games than the competition (not including ports like Indiana Jones and Starfield, which would be new to Nintendo but are old games now).

Edit: would also love Blue Prince and other indies that aren’t out on Switch yet, as well as titles like Mini Shoot Adventures that aren’t only on PC.

Re: Nintendo Suggests Metroid Prime 4's Tortured Development Meant It Was "Divorced From The Changing Of Times"

This isn’t the problem the game has. There are fundamental flaws in the philosophy, regardless of what they think players are looking for. The world is not cohesive. Backtracking is a chore, and much of it is forced. The last two quests are a chore, forced, and worse than the triforce sailing quest in Wind Waker.

Abilities are doled out too slowly. There’s nothing really new in them. The levels don’t connect together in interesting ways (think of shortcuts that open up in Dark Souls/Bloodborne).

These were lessons learned long ago. It’s frustrating, because there are a lot of great things in this game, but Metroidvanias, more than any other game, are a sum of their parts, and these don’t add up the way they need to.

I’m early in the game, but there’s a point where he’s like, “We can team up if you want?” and I really thought it was a point where the developers were about to give you a choice to tell him to leave you alone.

Instead, Samus nods and forces you to work together.

Oh well, he’s not great, but not as bad as some reviewers have said.

Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. For the S2 console, I think Nintendo skimping on internal storage was the biggest whiff (could say that about all consoles they've shipped with internal storage); there should definitely be a 512GB/1TB option. They should also allow you to disable GameChat. I've only ever pressed that button on accident, and freeing up the extra RAM would benefit devs.

I hate the reliance on GKCs and would love it if Nintendo opened up the S2 to allow installs to the internal hard drive so publishers who were great at supporting the S1 physical games might continue to do so this time around.

On the software front, their $20 packs for a visual upgrade+DLC are frustrating. I get charging a bit more for the visuals, but the offerings so far have been lackluster, and I can't see committing that kind of money to any of the ones they've announced. First party has been a bunch of solid scoring titles, but nothing stands out like the Switch 1's first year. They had a few extra months, but I can't see 2026 starting all that strong based on what we currently know. It's fine, there are still plenty of games to play, some great console exclusives, etc., but I'm hoping more third party stuff like Silent Hill 2, MGS Delta, and Baldur's Gate 3 come to the console.

@Bats1234 Home video games have become a digital medium, but they didn't start that way. And Nintendo physical games sell at a much higher rate than the rest of the gaming industry.

You act like everyone wants to spend extra money for more storage, or wait hours for huge games to download. Tell me how that goes over the holidays when all of these services get stress tested due to new users setting up their consoles.

Yeah, patches change the games after they're already on the cartridge, but patches take up a lot less space and (typically) less time than a full AAA game download.

People would be content if Nintendo did something they did during the Wii U generation for Xenoblade Chronicles X: allow the game to be installed from the cartridge for better performance (in this case, it's needed, but the point is they figured out a compromise to make it work better for the consumer).

Re: PSA: Don't Expect Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition To Include The DLC

@dePaige22 That's definitely one way of looking at it.

After they put out BOTW on S2 without the DLC, it was clear they were never going to "give away" the DLC (which is what you're suggesting) or intentionally devalue the base game, which is the other way you could phrase it to come to the same cost conclusion.

Because of the way gamers have changed their purchasing habits, many of those bundled "GOTY" style editions are no more (compared to years ago). You can argue this is a missed opportunity for Nintendo—and I'm not saying you're wrong—but they value their IP more than anyone else in gaming, for better or for worse.

For me, it's more disappointing that you can't purchase a "complete" physical edition of these games, despite the cartridges having ample space for the game+DLC.
