Re: Video: Monster Hunter Stories 3 Trial Demo Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch 2, Xbox Series S, PS5)

Ramouz

@ElkinFencer10 Indeed!
By the way, I tried Monster Hunter Stories 3 demo on both Xbox Series X and Switch 2, and yes, I can confirm that Switch 2 version is very blurry, both handheld and docked, unfortunately. The FPS is poor.
Shadows are not as good.
Sharpness is very low.
Even colours look toned down.
There's also more depth of field or blur so that it doesn't have to load assets that far.
Anti-aliasing isn't that good.
Less texture too, maybe.

It's a poor version but totally playable. I'm sure they can do better.

Xbox has 3 graphics settings (performance, balanced, quality) + motion blur, while Switch 2 has none but only brightness.
Balanced looks great and plays at 60 FPS most of the time.
Performance stays at 60 FPS and still looks way better than Switch 2.

Switch 2 plays at around 25 to 50, mostly around 30-40 FPS (my own impression).

Re: Preview: Dizzying Detail, Fluctuating Frames - A Good Look At 'Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection'

Played the Xbox Series X trial this morning, at least 1 hour of it. It did draw me in but like its predecessors, I am not a fan of the battle system. It does have skills and other things but I get so confused and it's really too fast. I understand the triangle system of what beats what, but the way it plays is confusing. Who's turn is next? Why can't I control other characters, etc. Mind you I only went through one tutorial battle that had 2 separate enemies.

The graphics and areas are stunning. Makes me want to be there. Soo beautiful. Love the art style

I am playing Balanced mode on Xbox, not performance and not quality but in between. It's nice to see these 3 options! It's usually at 60 FPS but can dip down a bit but usually 60 FPS.

What I didn't like, apart from battle system, is that movement in the city is limited. Lots of invisible walls, can't jump (yet we can jump in the overworld), can't go see what's beyond a fence, etc. It's already open world so they should have allowed us to go anywhere, like Dragon's Dogma 2 (one of my favourite games).

@ElkinFencer10
Edit: I am looking at this from my laptop, not phone, and it is way sharper.
I'm surprised because Star Wars Outlaws is sharper than this and requires more power. Metroid Prime 4 is way sharper. I'm sure they can work on this a bit more.

But, yes, I do wish the Switch 2, in docked mode, had some type of stronger hybrid GPU to give more performance than now, but this is Nintendo and I'm used to them taking the wrong decisions (in my eyes ).

Re: Super Bomberman Collection Gets A Surprise Shadow Drop On Switch 2

Ramouz

26.99 CAD on Xbox Series X.
33.49 on Switch 2.
26.99 on Switch 1.
I won't buy this on Switch 2 then. Xbox it is.
Good job Nintendo and companies for this extremely silly pricing thing. Hope they keep losing business for their price increases and learn their lesson. No one should support that practice until they decide they were wrong and go back to normal pricing.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Has Been Nominated For Even More Awards

Ramouz

Not sure why Clair Obscur is in best design. I played most of it and watched the cutscenes of the rest since I get annoyed (and stressed) with turn-based combat (and I had other issues with the game), and I only found its design decent. I wonder how they grade that category.

Re: Mario Tennis Fever Overview Trailer Serves Up A Host Of Fresh Features

Ramouz

@boxyguy Indeed.
Next I really hope they can bring more sports games back like baseball (Mario Super Sluggers) and hockey (Mario Sports Mix), etc.

They've given us enough tennis, though this is welcomed.

They need to fix Mario soccer/football (Strikers) as it was not fun on the Switch but fun on GameCube, and a Switch 2 edition of golf with improved everything.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Getting The New Joy-Con 2 Set?

Ramouz

Too late. They should have launched these at launch. Silly decisions they take. I already have four Joy Cons 2 and do not need more.

Would have liked different colours but I feel the way they have the Switch 2 set up indicates that we need those 2 default colours and only those. It's really weird how they did things with this machine.

Re: Take Yooka-Replaylee For A Spin In This New Switch 2 Demo

Ramouz

I'll stick to Xbox Series X or Steam. Though Steam version really wants us to play with a controller. Very low mouse sensitivity even at max, very very low, and controls are off.

Switch 2 plays at 30 FPS with a bit lower graphics, less AA, bad shadows, etc.
Awesome game though.

Re: Netflix "Didn't Attribute Any Value" To Warner Bros. Games In Acquisition Deal

Ramouz

I love Hogwarts Legacy! A true RPG in a very detailed world. Lots to do.

I have it on Xbox Series X and they recently made it accessible via Windows PC, meaning that I can now play it on PC just for owning it on Xbox, which improves it since it has better graphics (more options). Keyboard and mouse supported on both.

Hope they don't abandon this.

Re: Feature: My NES Longing, My Son's Terrifying Switch 2 Obsession

Ramouz

I see the Switch 2 as a computer upgrade over the Switch 1.

Switch 1 is as if I had a very poor computer that wouldn't run games well.

Switch 2 is an upgrade and finally runs those games well.
I bought it on launch day for that reason, not because of new games.

I have many previous games that I refused to play on the poor Switch 1.

Folks need to see it like that and really refrain from commenting about the Switch 2 not having enough games. The Switch 1 is a very, very poor device and I and my kids couldn't stand it. No one wanted to use it, so we just used the Xbox Series X or my laptop. We still do, to be honest, but now we reach for the Switch 2 more often and are mostly pleased with it compared to the first.

Re: Printable Metroid Prime 4 'Databook' Has Us Feeling Nostalgic For Instruction Booklets

Ramouz

You know what's strange, some entertainment media like video games and phones reduce "packaging" and cheapen out by not including booklets, chargers, earphones, etc.

What's really going on with those deceptive companies and not including booklets/chargers/cables?

But yet, if I go buy an electric shaver/trimmer, I get multiple manuals and information booklets along with a cable and a charger, a brush, etc. Those devices cost from $25 to $90.

I buy Uno or other card games, booklet with instructions. And it's only around $7.

Same with many products.

Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

Ramouz

I got 4 Joy-Cons 2 warrantied already here in Canada, for free of course. Issue was the rubber below was getting stuck on its own, preventing stick rotation, and ZL button wouldn't hold when I was holding it, it would unclick it self. All mostly okay now.

The Switch 2 itself is a not bad device. Whoever thinks it's outstanding or excellent doesn't know hardware and is lying to themselves because that's all we're getting and we can't do anything about it, unfortunately.

It needs a bit more to be able to be great. It's not comfortable. It lacks features. Wi-Fi is quite poor. Etc.
Other devices, especially the Legion Go models, are better but this one has the Nintendo games.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Switch 2) - Samus Returns In Prime Form

Ramouz

@AlonditeFE I love Dragon's Dogma 2! So much that I bought the first one also (Dark Arisen) and will play it in the future.

Got it a few weeks ago and been playing it ever since. Soooo much exploration, it's wild. Very long game as I like to explore everything. I imagine it was poorer when it first launched before the patches. It still needs a bit of work here and there but very nice, fun game.

To stay on point for this. Can't wait to buy Metroid 4, but a bit disappointed to see that it's only about 20 hours. I would expect 40 hours for this type of game.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Difficulty Settings Revealed By Nintendo

Ramouz

@Jumwa I played Metroid Dread (MD) and it was dreadfully hard. The normal fights were okay but I couldn't stand the boss fights. I hate boss fights in general unless they're fun and a bit challenging in a way that can be beaten, like in Mario, Kirby games. Those are fun. But MD required lots and lots of movements (which is fun but..) and precise aiming, and bosses were bullet sponges. I gave up around 75% progress but not just due to boss fights. I got really annoyed with how confusing it was to move around the map and the fast travel being all over the place, meaning that you don't know where you'll end up, and you're always somewhere far.

The levels were not organised and all over the place.
The game was fun other than the above.

The 3D Metroid games are fun, so those should be a blast to play.

Re: Reminder: 'Hello, Yoshi!' App Now Available For Switch And Mobile Devices

Ramouz

@Jamie64326 Of course, I'm aware that it's different teams, and I am also aware that they've been developing the Switch 2 for many years now, and we should all be aware, given the years they've had, that they should have had way more of their own first party games updated on launch, especially recent ones. (We're all still waiting for Xenoblade Chronicles series, for example).

Don't forget that they have thousands of employees and I'm sure plenty of game developers. They do have the time and capacity.

The company decides where resources go and how they spend it and they decided that random mobile apps are more important, along with movies and theme parks. For a gaming company, they behave very strangely.

Edit: I was shocked yesterday when I launched those games I mentioned and they were all quite blurry. And some are recent games. It's a sad company to deal with.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 System Update 21.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Ramouz

Really makes me wonder what they've been doing in the past years. They hardly did any updates for the Switch 1. It hardly had any features. Many years later, the Switch 2 is here and it has a few improvements in the software and that's about it. Now they're adding a few more (the icon for digital/physical was needed and I noticed it right away, and was surprised that they didn't think about this months ago. The HDR settings name also was confusing), but yet it's just not enough.

Look at the Xbox, packed with features and settings. A true entertainment machine. It's okay if Switch 2 is not but at least add more features, filters, settings, etc.
I somehow think they hardly do anything and just show off when they add one new feature.
I'm happy to see this update though. Finally a proper update.

I also feel like saying (even though I know it's not true) that they weren't actually working on this for the past years and just came up with it recently. Very bare-bones, once again. Other companies are actually innovating. Mouse mode is great but that's all they did. Lenovo Legion Go came up with it first though.

I work in Software and I'm a small business. They're a giant multi-billion dollar business that hardly does anything software-wise (hardware lacks as well).

Re: Nintendo Releases A Storefront App For Android And iOS

Ramouz

No thanks, now they have 4 apps, or more, unsure, on Android.
I have 2 of theirs. One to manage parental controls (which really should be in the Switch 2 itself or on the website) and the other for Tears of the Kingdom extra content. It's more than enough.

They're very messy and increasing their mess. Yet, their Switch 2 remains featureless compared to an Xbox, for example.

Re: Review: Luigi's Mansion (GameCube) - A Spooky Little Romp That Still Sucks You In

Ramouz

I enjoyed all the Luigi's Mansion games that I have played. They're all fun and unique.

@YoshiSage Probably my most favourite Mario game (single player). Mario Sunshine was really fun, great, and I still play it to this day. I have replayed it many times. Would love to see a remake for it with additional levels and refined levels. And, a better camera.

Re: Microsoft On Its Gaming Business Going Forward: "We Want To Be Everywhere"

Ramouz

@Jeronan
I really like my Xbox Series X. It's a way better console than the Switch 1/2.
It's better than a PS5, in my opinion, as it's very entertainment focused and Quick Resume solidifies that. I use it for many reasons and I hope they keep the DVD/Blu-ray player.
My wife and I watch shows on various apps on it.

Very nice social aspects of it too, very open. Switch 2 feels very limited, closed, and not fun at all. Only good for Nintendo games and exclusives.

But, Xbox controller is pathetic, low quality, and lacks features. I use the superb GameSir G7 HE (wired). PS5 controller has more features, is fun to use, but is not comfortable at all. Terrible shape. If it had the same shape as the Nintendo one, it would be spectacular. Thus, Nintendo takes the lead for now (not with Joy-Cons though lol).
I did try the Xbox Elite 2, I had it for a bit, but a bit too heavy, very buggy with buttons not working on 3 models, so I just sold it (after doing warranty twice also). Doesn't have a share button for some reason.

I also hope they keep Xbox going forward but I don't trust them. Their products are all buggy. They admitted that they use AI for a large part of their coding. Their websites are constantly bugging out. They're the same company that actually changed the awesome name of Office (or Office 365) to Microsoft 365. What were they thinking? They're really weird. What does that have to do with Office?
And now adding Copilot to everything (which is incredibly annoying). Not saying Copilot is bad but I don't want AI everywhere. I want to go back to simpler times.

I also one day would like to have a PS6 just for the exclusives.
