Re: Best Nintendo Switch 2 Controllers

Ramouz

Looking forward to a third party one that has all the features (apart from Amiibo) of the Pro Controller 2.
Meaning:

  • Mic
  • Headphone jack
  • Motion control
  • Rear buttons

Many have the last 2 but not yet the first 2.

A nice to have would be a button to wake the Switch 2. My third party Xbox controller wakes the Series X.

Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?

Ramouz

I have it but haven't redeemed it yet due to some Switch 2 issues I'm having, but the point is that we did play it on my brother's Switch 2 and it was fun (apart from the 30 FPS limit for 3 local players), but I was shocked to not find local co-op free roam, and no map unless you exit free roam. Sigh.. Nintendo's lack of details. Other companies have really surpassed them.

Folks complaining about not having a map and not having icons on the maps are correct. Look at Lego 2K Drive, it has so much content and a lot of fun collectibles, a lot of random characters to talk to, hilarious ones too, and many mini missions (which is probably the game that Mario Kart World copied), and all of them are on the map once you spot them and include stats and such.

That's without mentioning Forza Horizon 3, 4, 5, and The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest. All of those have superior maps and way more content.

Re: Nintendo Survey Asks Switch 2 Users About Their Experience So Far

@SuperRetroArt
Those 2:

1.
Grips:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0F5PV7QVY
My opinion: Very nice. Really like those. Grips really well. The feeling is just like those phone cases that are translucent, flexible, and that grip very well.

2.
Case and grips:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0F62NPNFJ
My opinion: This comes with a case for the Switch 2. It's separate from the Joy-Con 2 grips so you can choose not to use it.
Not the best fit ever on the bottom of the case/Switch 2, but it's fine, and it can be charged with it. Best thing is that the S2 no longer slips when you pull it out of the dock and when holding it. I like the thumb grip caps, but I only need one on the left as if I add one on the right Joy-Con 2, then it'll give even less space for the B button.

About the Joy-Con grips, it has 2 parts. Top is translucent, not flexible, harder plastic than the above grips, but it has the same grip so it won't slip, but the bottom part is a nice black with smooth material. Slightly grippier than the Joy-Con 2 material. It's also nicer feeling and looks nicer than the above grips but it grips less. However, the fit is better but is more complicated to remove. I prefer the above grips because this one increases the size a bit too much from the side, and from the back as well so you feel it with your fingers.

Re: Nintendo Survey Asks Switch 2 Users About Their Experience So Far

Ramouz

@SuperRetroArt Joy-Cons are still terrible. Nintendo thinks they're fine. No idea what goes on in their heads.
I got some grips on Amazon and it helps a lot, even when removing the Joy-Cons.

To be fair, they're better than before though and they feel nice but they're still uncomfortable. They should have had the D-Pad and ABXY buttons diagonally positioned and not vertically.

Re: Nintendo Survey Asks Switch 2 Users About Their Experience So Far

Ramouz

@CriticalHit Try going 9 meters away from your router, if you can in your house, and watch it nearly disconnect. It has terrible Wi-Fi unless you're close to the router.

Can't wait to receive the survey so I can mention that. I submitted a ticket with them about this too as I noticed it on 2 Switch 2s and others complained online as well.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom And Breath Of The Wild Updates Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Ramouz

@OldGamer999 I have the same thoughts. Switch 2 is still a generation behind and it's saddening. What's more frustrating is the bad Wi-Fi module on it. Should have been launched in 2021.

Could have been stronger when docked, and slightly weaker when portable (for better battery).

I still enjoy more my Series X and laptop.

Arms looks superb btw and exactly what it would look like on a proper console. Just sad to see many games still at 30 FPS and I suspect other new ones may run at 30 rather than 60. We're happy about Switch 2's performance with old games, less with new games, which shows it's still behind and that's what is disappointing. Anyways, exclusives are what matter for a Nintendo machine, once again =(. I was hoping to have only one console, not 2 (though to be fair, nothing beats Quick Resume on Xbox ).

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch 2 - A Faster, Slicker, Sexier Switch

Ramouz

@Kwyjibo_Kitsune Wi-Fi is really bad on mine too, and on my brother's. Not happy about that for a premium device. My phone beats this badly. We all NEED to send a ticket to Nintendo and bombard them with this so they do something about it. It's not fair at all. This is a big device and the module should have been a proper one that works better over long distances. By long distance I mean 8+ meters. Something that isn't far for laptops and cell phones, same floor also.

Re: Japanese Charts: Switch 2 Crushes PS2 To Become Fastest-Selling Console Ever

Ramouz

There's a big reason why this console beat past consoles and many are not talking about it. More people play video games now than in the past, especially during PS2 era. More variety of people too. A lot more girls as well.
Of course, portability and exclusives play a big role so those 3 are what made this a hit.
Then, add the fact that most of us couldn't stand the first Switch anymore and were eagerly waiting for a more powerful unit.

Re: Xbox Has Reportedly Sidelined Its First-Party Handheld (For Now)

Ramouz

@pikachupikachup That is very far! So sorry.
You must be really excited though.

Yes, it's much better than Switch 1, but once you get used to it, that's all there is to it. Wi-Fi is really bad unless you're near a router or repeater, so it's not as portable as they make it seem unless you don't need Internet. That alone makes me want to return it since we paid so much for it. I tried my brother's Switch 2 and same thing. This indicates that they most likely used a cheap Wi-Fi module (for the price we paid). I've had it disconnect in our small apartment a few times when we're in a room about 10 meters away from the router.

Other than that, I'm enjoying it, but I am really worried that they won't be updating other older games, like Mario Tennis, Mario Golf Super Rush, Pokemon Snap, Xenoblade series, Peach Showtime, etc. etc.
I even loaded Clubhouse Games: 51 and it looked blurry and as if it's upscaled in a cheap way, not true 1080p nor 4k, and yet I think they updated that for the Switch 2 based on their page, so that's a bit concerning.

The games that are updated to support real 4k look great. Those that are properly upscaled without updates look good but lack anti-aliasing as usual. I really hope they resolve all of that because they made us wait years, enduring a weak Switch, and forcing developers to develop their games for a weak console, sacrificing graphics, and now all those devs are forced to update their games again.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

Ramouz

@SirLink That's the problem, for some strange reason they sold a lot. It's really a rubbish device (S1). Even my child stopped using it very early on. I bought games but didn't play them, like many, and waited for the second one. This is a much better Switch, but it's not there yet. I suspect it sold a lot due to Nintendo games. Kids would go "Mario! Peach!" and parents and others would buy it and gift it. And all those fun exclusives. I do love Mario games, don't get me wrong but the old device itself is really bad.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

Ramouz

@HalBailman I see it as a decent upgrade but not a generational leap at all. It's not there yet.

  • Joy-Cons are still Joy-Cons (terrible to use, just a bit better). They are badly made. Why not make them wider and like all other consoles including the Wii U? The D-Pad and ABXY need to be diagonally positioned and not vertically. It's so uncomfortable.
  • Joy-Con buttons too small & too close to the sticks, especially right one. I keep hitting the stick and can't click B well.
  • Still no rear grip to hold it comfortably like with the Wii U.
  • Wi-Fi is terrible! We have a 500 Mbps connection here. From a bedroom to the router, 1.5 to 3.8 Mbps or less and sometimes disconnects. My phone, 90 Mbps. Close the door, it stops loading anything. Phone, still fine. Near Wi-Fi, 311 Mbps, but the point is portability. They used a cheap Wi-Fi module. The whole thing feels a bit cheaper than the Switch 1. Yet, way more expensive.
  • Very similar UI.
  • Should have been stronger with better CPU/GPU. They used an old one from 2021 or so.
  • Should have had a bigger battery.
  • Too slippery.
  • They removed the IR camera from the right Joy-Con.
  • They should have brought back the camera from the Wii U so that we can have it on the device, with a shutter, like laptops have. Wii U had it, Switch removed it, no idea why. Stylus also.
  • Volume buttons too small and more difficult to reach now since it's bigger.
  • Screen calibration (white balance) is too cool rather than warm.
  • The dock looks nice but feels cheaper, and the Switch 1 dock had "hinges" so it would open and remain as part of the dock. Now, it's challenging to snap it back when you have cables in there. Not a huge deal though but it's not an improvement. The motherboard in there is obviously better than Switch 1.
  • They should have launched this 4 years ago. The big problem now is getting a lot of developers to update their games to really support this. Some games I played are either very blurry now (worse than before), or sharp but with no AA. I wonder how many will actually feel the need to upgrade their games. Nintendo made a huge mistake waiting. They don't care though.

Not related to the Switch 2 itself but not enjoying much the Pro Controller 2 due to how slippery it is and the D-Pad being pretty much the same. Sticks also have too much tension. Not a good thing. Price should have been 89.99 CAD and not 109.99 CAD.

Pros:

  • Much faster and better CPU/GPU/RAM/storage but that was expected.
  • Better screen compared to the first Switch, which I have. It's sharp. Glad it's bigger.
  • Love the mouse functionality on the Joy-Cons, but I wish they were more comfortable, like the mouse on the Legion Go. Lots of games can take advantage of that, hopefully..
  • Magnets vs sliding in Joy-Cons. Nice design though very loud when kids are sleeping. I don't play much in handheld though.
  • Speakers are better than Switch 1. Wii U had better speakers than Switch 1. Nintendo made a mess with the Switch 1.
  • Better stand compared to Switch 1 (which was a mistake).
  • Cartridge slot for game cards is better designed now.
  • Touch screen is more sensitive I feel and I can type with more accuracy.

This is clearly a decent upgrade and not a huge one. It is what the Switch 1 should have been and that's all. And next year, a proper Switch 2 should have launched, had they done this in a better way. But, it is what it is and I'll do my best to enjoy it, as long as I can make it more comfortable in handheld.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

Ramouz

@TheBigK I like the bigger screen but I also find the whole thing a bit too big, but mainly because it's so uncomfortable and there's no rear grip like on the Wii U, ROG Ally, Legion Go, etc. I got some grips for the Joy-Cons 2, so I'll see how that makes it once they arrive.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

Ramouz

@Jeronan You're thinking about the lending of virtual game cards (family group only). GameShare is something else, where you can share the game you're playing onto another Switch 1 or 2 and both of you can co-op play the same game at the same time, each one having his own screen rather than on the same screen.

Lending virtual game cards is for 14 days, yes, to someone in your family group. But, if you have someone's user on your Switch 1 or 2, then you can play that person's games anytime by just loading the virtual game card. No limits, from what I understand, and the benefit now is that we get to sync to cloud saves in our own account rather than the user's account who owns that game.

I like the above features. Not happy about the 14 day limit for lending though. However, I have other issues with the Switch 2 and I can again see most here are in a honeymoon phase and aren't used to proper products but inferior ones, just like the horrifying Switch 1. As I said elsewhere, if others were allowed to build machines for Nintendo in order to make use of those exclusives, we would have portable consoles that are way better and more ergonomic than this painful to use machine. Despite all that, I like the Switch 2, but not love.

Re: Xbox Officially Enters The Handheld Space, But Nintendo Won't Be Worried

Ramouz

Glad they considered comfort, something Nintendo does not understand at all in the Switch 1 and 2. Not talking about Pro Controllers (though the new one is so slippery with the same D-Pad pretty much). Hold the Wii U, very comfortable. Then we get the hand cramping/destroying Switch 1/2. Joy-Cons 2 are still very uncomfortable. You need cases and adapters to make them decent only.

Look at the Legion Go, removable controllers like the Switch, yet comfortable and one of them has a mouse functionality. Why can't Nintendo make the grips comfortable without needing a case? They're out of touch.

We're only settling for the Switch 2 because that's all they'll give us for us to enjoy exclusives. If other companies made devices for Nintendo games, not many of us would have bought the Switch. This whole thing from Nintendo feels like an experiment and I dislike that.

ROG Xbox Ally X looks pretty good but if it can't play all my digital Xbox games and PC Xbox games, what would be the point? They need to combine both and not just accept play anywhere titles but any Xbox titles.

Re: Poll: Switch 2 Battery Reportedly Lasting Under Two Hours With Mario Kart - How Is Yours Holding Up?

Ramouz

@Nintendo4Sonic If you've played everything else from the Switch 1and don't need the new games yet, then you should wait.

On the other hand, I haven't played many of exclusive games since I was waiting for a proper console and my experience is that it's just so much faster, in everything. Games load so quickly that it doesn't even make sense. They run better and their updates (free or paid) really improve them.

However, as for the physical console itself, it's not my favourite. They should have done a better job with ergonomics (it's very very uncomfortable, more than the uncomfortable Switch 1 - Wii U was amazing), and the screen is too cool rather than warm, which I dislike. Everything looks kind of blue-ish.

Re: Poll: Switch 2 Battery Reportedly Lasting Under Two Hours With Mario Kart - How Is Yours Holding Up?

Ramouz

@Key19 You're welcome . Do you see a blue-ish tint on your Switch 2 screen? I mean, it looks fine but it's definitely more blue than the Switch 1 and all my other devices, which I don't like. I'm actually considering returning it since I haven't redeemed MKW yet and telling Nintendo about it, hoping they do something.

Unless they can add a warm mode that we can enable permanently, like all devices have.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Guide: Ultimate Resource

Ramouz

Anyone find the Switch 2's screen a bit too blue-ish? Not my type at all. The Switch 1 had more warmth to it. Likewise my phone and laptop. I also set those up whenever I can, including TV. But, I can't modify that on the Switch 2's screen . It's just too blue and unappealing, as if lacking contrast as well.

Re: Xbox Has Reportedly Sidelined Its First-Party Handheld (For Now)

Ramouz

@pikachupikachup Strange. At Costco, it was mainly older people shopping about and lots of Switch 2s for sale. I only bought it there because I thought there'd be shortage at Best Buy. Then, I went to BB and we were only about 10 to 15 in line. After that purchase, there weren't many people and mostly older ones there. So, I guess being in a smaller city is much better (and quieter too) and also I'm in Canada (a lot less population than USA). I'm sure you'll get one very soon.

Pro Controller 2 is nice and quiet. Everything is so silent, even bumping the sticks (more than PS5 controller). But it's slippery, unlike the first one, and the D-Pad is the same! Strange.
Haven't opened the S2 yet.

Re: Xbox Has Reportedly Sidelined Its First-Party Handheld (For Now)

Ramouz

@pikachupikachup Oh nice. I wonder what PS has as exclusives that PC/Xbox/Switch don't have apart from Astro Bot. I also got out of gaming at one point.
I went out to Costco and Best Buy today and got a Switch 2 at both places lol (and one Pro Controller). I'll be returning the Costco one since it costs a bit more as it includes a 1 year NSO expansion, which I don't need.

Re: Xbox Has Reportedly Sidelined Its First-Party Handheld (For Now)

Ramouz

@pikachupikachup
Yep, I can unplug it (which I have done) and games are still in quick resume. Power outage happens (it has happened) and still in quick resume. I love it! Not sure about Series S. (I do want to try a PS5 one day, especially for Astro Bot).

I didn't enjoy the Switch since I come from PC gaming. I only got an Xbox in May, 2022 but prior to that, it was all PC, mixed in with Nintendo. To be fair, I've been using Nintendo products since I was very young, NES, SNES, GameBoy, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, but performance in other consoles/PC improved a lot in ~2012 and Nintendo didn't catch up, until tomorrow.

I then wanted to play on a large screen and relax on a couch so I tried the Series X and loved it. But, I still struggle with not having mouse+keyboard in many games, though many do support them.

Much like you, I ended up using the Switch undocked at home while others were on TV (I did play docked at first), but I just couldn't play for more than 20 minutes or so. Performance too low and screen too small. I got a Switch a bit late in Feb, 2022, and before that, we played on occasion when my brother visited, so I decided to just wait for the next Nintendo console as I figured it couldn't be that far.

The Switch 2 looks like it solves most issues (except for missing some nice Wii U features ), so I am eager to own one, hopefully tomorrow. It looks like it will be great undocked too! But, we'll see, as the UI is lacking compared to Xbox.

I have the Pro Controller. It's actually a great controller. High quality and comfortable. The new Pro Controller 2 for the Switch 2 will be even better as I love rear buttons (have them on my Xbox controller).
I couldn't handle the Joy-Cons nor the grip even though I have them. I bought little adapters in 2022 to put individuals Joy-Cons inside so that they're more comfortable to hold, when separated.

Re: Xbox Has Reportedly Sidelined Its First-Party Handheld (For Now)

Ramouz

@pikachupikachup - The Switch also has that, one game stays on even after restarting the Switch. The one on the Series X lets you shut it down, sleep, or even a power outage, and the games in quick resume stay there. Not just one, but whatever it can handle. I usually have 3-6 games in quick resume, some for many days, months and even for a year.
I really want to see all consoles have that.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Chip "Unlike Anything We've Ever Built Before" Says Nvidia CEO

Ramouz

@Kiddd 4 things:
1. My laptop has one. New laptops have 5090 now. The dock can support it with the right cooling and size.
2. You can have lower wattage ones, made for smaller devices. Some laptops have 105w ones while others have 175w.
3. The dock can easily have one, which is what I am referring to, and I specifically said when docked, not the Switch 2 itself (yet). Again, lower wattage.
4. In a few years, when their next console will be as powerful as a 4080, which is possible now, you won't find my comment "funny" but when you're not knowledgeable enough about these things, it's easy to mock.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Chip "Unlike Anything We've Ever Built Before" Says Nvidia CEO

Ramouz

@kmtrain83 I'll be honest, if they can start publishing games like the Wii and Wii U games, I'll be really happy and that's all I really need. I really wanted something very powerful so that I wouldn't need other consoles but it won't happen, especially since the Series X has a superior UI, experience, and social features (and Game Pass), among other benefits (but no motion for some reason ).

So, it's okay, and you're right, this Switch 2 will be a better experience and I'm looking forward to it. Just really want to see older games renewed for this, Fishing Resort and all the Mii-compatible games on the Wii come to mind, and new Nintendo games but by going back to their roots, colorful and fun games. Family-friendly. Less corporate-feeling than the Switch 1 era.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Chip "Unlike Anything We've Ever Built Before" Says Nvidia CEO

Ramouz

@spiderman0616 - I want to agree. I really would have liked to see them take more advantage of the docked performance!
They missed an opportunity so I'll have to stick with my laptop and Series X (less game purchases for Nintendo) for non-exclusives. It should have been equal to an RTX 4080 or 3080 at least when docked. Especially since it seems we'll be having this for so many more years and we're already at a time where graphics are more demanding than in 2020, when the Switch 2 should have launched.
