Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Approach to Transforming Franchises Clashes With Fan Expectations

PrincessSugoi

@Sakura This certainly feels like the Twilight Zone reading some of the bizarre mental gymnastics being used here to defend Nintendo releasing what are ultimately cheap, low risk spinoffs to milk fans of existing IP and fill up the schedule without putting the money and time into mainline entries. Couple that with the accusatory and butthurt comments about fans never wanting change and being "ungrateful" for whatever crap the company pulls out of it's *** and stick a price tag on ... and you have entered the fanboy zone!

Re: Nintendo Isn't Talking About NX Because It Doesn't Want Rivals To Steal Its Ideas

PrincessSugoi

Yeah.... I'm getting more convinced now that the NX is the rumored fusion console. There'd be no reason to talk about the 3DS at all here if it were only replacing the Wii U (and vice versa). Neither system's upcoming line up instill confidence that it's going to "survive" past 2017 (granted 3DS games don't take long to make).

They better have some cooler tricks than Mario Party: Animal Crossing to pull over the next year and plenty of them because that's the only way they're going to satisfy Wii U owners.

Re: Animal Crossing Director Talks More About Happy Home Designer and amiibo

PrincessSugoi

"It's safe to say that fan reaction has been rather mixed towards the amiibo-centric focus of the two upcoming Animal Crossing games for Wii U and 3DS."

That's a bit of understatement. I'd say it was easily the second most hated announcement coming from the Digital Event. Though I guess it does look "mixed" when you compare it to how much the #1 is hated.

E3 kind of soured me on HHD but the details are warming me back up to it.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates Iwata Asks Explores Multiple Storylines, Its 500 Page Plot and My Castle

PrincessSugoi

Aw, so his daughter encouraged to write a big epic story. That's really sweet.

I personally like the "pick your poison" gimmick and if you're going to do a shameless multiple version cash in then do it right and actually offer the content to justify it. A story that's 3x as big as Awakening and told from different perspectives does it for me. The only thing I take issue with is the gay male and female characters being split across the two stories too. Not cool.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Tackles Metroid Prime: Federation Force and amiibo Criticism

PrincessSugoi

I haven't found anything reassuring about the next console's future from Reggie's nor Miyamoto's comments lately. They sound painfully in damage control mode and don't seem apologetic about the missteps Nintendo has taken this generation at all. This interviews just reeks of arrogance. How do they expect to win back gamers and casuals if they aren't even arsed about winning over their loyal fans lately?

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Hints at Smaller New Nintendo 3DS for North America

PrincessSugoi

@Rocky2418

Thank you for posting that sales data. I'm so tired of people peddling around that "XL outsells standard" excuse (like this is a phenom exclusive to the NA). Someone in another comment section even had the gall to call the standard audience "niche". On planet is 33% considered "niche"?

And isn't the point of having variations of products anyway is that you're serving the different tastes and needs of your audience? With this decision NoA had basically told 33% of the 3DS owners to either upgrade to their way or no way. I chose "no way" and I'm sure I wasn't alone. Ridiculous that this is even a problem when America is one of the Nintendo's biggest markets but it's another example of how stingy and arrogant NoA can be.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Hints at Smaller New Nintendo 3DS for North America

PrincessSugoi

The new XL and the 2DS their "best" lineup? Really? Despite how pathetic it looks for a large market like America to only have those two options when Japan and Europe have them all? Ugh.

There's a reason Pizza Hut has pan, small, medium, large, and XL sized pizzas, Reggie. It's not about which is selling the most, it's about fulfilling as many needs as possible.

Re: Take More Risks With Your eShop Purchases, Pleads Nintendo's Damon Baker

PrincessSugoi

With all due respect Mr. Baker, how about you guys sort out an actual account system and cross buy first before asking people to be riskier with their eshop purchases? There's still people who are reluctant to support the eshop for something that is very much in Nintendo's hands.

I think some here oversimplify the issue with Nintendo fans supporting more indies and 3rd parties. There ARE indies that have found success on Nintendo platforms such as Steamworld Dig, Affordable Space Adventures, Gunman Clive, Mutant Mudds, Mighty Switch Force, and Shovel Knight. There are also 3rd parties that have success on Nintendo handhelds, the 3DS is virtually unchallenged in the dedicated handheld market because it's home to stuff like Monster Hunter, Yokai Watch, BokuMono as well as Nintendo's staple of IP's. The home console situation is different and has a more troubled history but I think generally what the Nindies/3rd parties that find success on Nintendo platforms have in common is a certain aesthetic, level of polish, and type of gameplay that appeals to the Nintendo fan's palette. Stroking the nostalgia buttons and promotional backing from Nintendo usually helps too.

I'd say most of my 3DS eshop/retail purchases are from indies/3rd parties. But it's not out of obligation or some need to support the little guy, it's because I personally have found a lot of quality and interesting titles. Make'em good and I'll buy.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Attempts To Explain Why Zelda Wii U Wasn't At E3 2015

PrincessSugoi

@MadAdam81

Okay, so you meant "COD-esque" as in churning out yearly franchises and rarely innovating. Sorry for misunderstanding. However, I still have to disagree. Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda would already fall into this category you described. It's rarely one year (or in Mario's case barely a few months) where we don't see some type of game from them and not every game is a new or fresh iteration. Zelda has had three remakes in the past three years and the most recent traditional Pokemon game was also a remake. For every Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda released, that's resources Nintendo could have used to come up with a new IP or revive an older one with fresher ideas and new inspiration. Even Splatoon was originally going to be a Mario game. Nintendo makes new IP's all the time, many of them are just smaller games that don't get the push or spotlight that Splatoon does.

Your concerns about Metriod, F-zero, Animal Crossing, etc. would be understandable if these franchises were used more frequently to begin with. Fans shouldn't have to wait two generations to see Starfox when they barely have to wait two months to see Mario.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Attempts To Explain Why Zelda Wii U Wasn't At E3 2015

PrincessSugoi

@MadAdam81

"If Nintendo istend to what the fans thought they wanted, we'd get every Nintendo franchises churning out yearly terrible CoD like stuff."

You've been on this site for two years, unless you've never read a single comment section before now, there is no way you actually believe that utter nonsense you just spewed out. The straws you're reaching for aren't even in the same restaurant at this point.

Re: Nintendo Is A Slave To Its Past Success, Says Gearbox President Randy Pitchford

PrincessSugoi

First off, WTF at his kids not knowing Mickey Mouse. My three year old niece knows Mickey, Minnie, Tom & Jerry, Scooby Doo, Superman, and a host of other pop culture characters beyond her years because we don't keep her in a freaking bubble.

Secondly, he'd have a point... if Nintendo were actually doing what he thinks they're doing. The Internet and so-called industry experts seem to have a warped perception of who the hardcore Nintendo fan actually is and what their wants are (ironically it's similar to the perception they have of SEGA fans) and it shows here with his comments.

Metriod and Animal Crossing have by far been the two most requested franchises to make their Wii U appearance. No one has been jumping up and down asking for a 3DS Federation spinoff or an amiibo party game with AC characters slapped on it. People have been asking for console entries for a traditional Fire Emblem and Pokemon Stadium/Colosseum/Snap but I don't remember anyone asking for a Skylanders crossover. Fans have embraced new IP like Splatoon that Nintendo itself embraced but were cold on W101 and Codename Steam which Nintendo sent out to sink or swim. Fans have also been clamoring for lesser known IP's like F-zero, Sin and Punishment, Eternal Darkness, and Advance Wars to make their appearance this generation. None of which have. If the Wii U library actually reflected Nintendo pandering strictly to it's core fanbase, there'd be a lot more of the franchises mentioned and a lot less Mario and Wii.

Instead, Nintendo has been trying to pander to a mass audience that simply isn't there anymore with the same bag of tricks. They need to appease the fans they have left with a diversified library of staple IPs while also trying to reel in new ones by extending their marketing reach and creating new exciting IPs. There's no reason it has to be a either/or situation.

Re: Satoru Iwata Didn't Apologise For Nintendo's E3 Digital Event, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

PrincessSugoi

People need to stop the ad hominem. I made it a point to reduce my expectations to zero going into the event and was still disappointed. The bait and switch with AC and Metroid Prime didn't help either. Good for you if you found the presentation fulfilling and feel there's nothing to be upset over, just accept that you're very much in the minority and throwing around "you're all entitled and selfish!" insults does nothing to change that.

Reggie thought the Spaltoon reactions were bad? Huh? It pretty much sparked a fandom overnight. Tumblr filled with fanart and homemade plushes within a day of it's reveal. Two days after MP:FF's people are signing cancellation petitions and giving the trailer tens of thousands of dislikes. What kind of out of touch revisionist nonsense...

Re: RPG Stella Glow Heading to 3DS this Year in North America

PrincessSugoi

... man, I know it's a bad thing but I'm just too in love with how this looks. The art style hits all my anime sensory buttons just right. And it's SEGA who I love just as much as I hate sometimes.

Even at that price point, just mediocre reviews will probably be enough for me to pick it up.

Re: Video: These Nintendo World Championships and Super Mario Maker Highlights Should Get You Warmed Up

PrincessSugoi

I watched the Mario Maker portion of the NWC yesterday and it definitely qualified as a show steal-er for me. I was gasping and ahh-ing just through the tablet screen, I would have literally been at the edge of my seat had I'd been there live. Helped that the levels were designed as well as they were brutal.

It's been a pretty high spirit E3 so far for me so I hope Nintendo (and Squeenix) can keep the good feels rolling.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Franchises We Want to See at E3 - Pokémon

PrincessSugoi

I'm still holding out some smidgen of hope they saved the X2Y2/Z announcement for E3 but when you try to connect the dots, it just doesn't seem likely.

A two year wait for a sequel was welcomed but a three year wait is killing me especially since I sold my copy of X thinking I'd be back in Kalos soon enough. Though I suppose it's nice break for the fans feeling burnt out. Maybe I'll use the extra time to play B2W2.

Re: Squid Girl Collaboration Set to Invade Splatoon in August

PrincessSugoi

This crossover has been begging to happen ever since Anbe-san made his own Splatoon fanart last year. Nintendo would have been crazy not to have jumped on that.

Wee bit disappointed that it's just a costume DLC. Should still be cool but I'm really hoping for a collaboration that involves a Splatoon manga (and hopefully an anime would follow).

Re: Super Mario Bros. Inducted Into the World Video Game Hall of Fame

PrincessSugoi

Zelda and Sonic will likely be locks for next year. Assuming Metroid to make it there eventually along with Castlevania. Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Pokemon, GTA, Resident Evil... lots of good choices for next year.

Right call not putting Angry Birds in yet, even if it did meet the qualifications, putting it in first might have caused people to write off how "prestigious" this list really is.
