To be fair, orb prices are significantly cheaper than what I've typically encountered in gacha based games. Five 10(+1) pulls (basically the equivalent of 50/55 summonings) in deresute or LLSIF for example would cost me roughly $50 more. And yeah, you're going to get mostly low level cards. That's just how it goes.
Anyway, the goal was smashed in minutes but I'd feel bad just profiting off other player's efforts so I made my contribution.
I don't trust EA as far as I could figuratively throw them but being that they're giving us this year's version and appear to releasing on parity, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that this will be an actual custom built version. It'd reflect pretty badly on them if they turned out to be lying since one of their reps openly shut down the guy who started the rumor on social media. FIFA on portable has so much potential for success, it'd do them little good to halfass this.
The 3DS/Wii U era made it more apparent than ever that the overlap between those who buy Nintendo handhelds as well as their home consoles isn't really that large. You get both of those audiences on the same platform, mostly avoid the pitfalls that (almost) killed the 3DS and murdered the Wii U, and offer some cheaper iterations/upgrades down the road? The Switch has the potential, certainly. It'll be up to Nintendo whether it lives up to it. Without a killer app like Brain Training or Wii Sports to sell it though, I see landing somewhere between the 3DS and GBA in lifetime sales.
I'm only up because I thought I'd need to catch an early ride but that didn't happen. Was hoping the app would be up in the US too but if it's just going to take its sweet time then I'm going back to bed. 😧
While the reasoning they gave is sound, it seems more like a move to get it released closer to the reveal of a new console game. Seems like their current strategy for mobile, a new console entry usually isn't too far behind.
Really strange that there's been no signs of this game coming... and we wouldn't even know of it now if someone hadn't asked on twitter. Was this a recent decision and they just hadn't the chance to announce it yet or what?
This situation is making me want to go on twitter and bug Harada about Tekken 7 just to make sure.
This is really tempting me. But I just can't justify having two 3DSes though even if one is just a regular old 3DS XL... I hate to part with my Pink and White XL but for the sake of not just having extra systems laying about, it might be time to trade the ol' gurl in.
Honestly, it seems like some of these smaller studios may have gotten their devkits late and didn't know if they would be able to make certain release dates or not. Yacht Club made Treasure Trove + Specter of Torment a "launch window" timed exclusive which I have to wonder if it was a last minute decision after realizing they could actually make the Switch's launch date. Then there was also Sonic Mania that didn't get confirmed until the day of the presentation, probably because the indie development team started on the Switch version late and didn't know if they'd be able to release on parity with other platforms or not.
The positive spin on this is that as more developers are getting their kits, they're finding out how easy it is to port to the Switch. The announcements just keep rolling out and the current lineup for the Switch's first year is looking much different from the way it looked just 11 days ago.
Even with some fumblings, I think 40m is pretty doable but the key thing will be getting that 3DS/Vita crowd (especially in Japan) to bite. Pokemon alone would guarantee at least 10m but Nintendo would have to start seriously pushing the Switch as their true one platform going forth before that can happen. Right now, they're mainly pushing the Switch as a home console while leaving breadcrumbs for their handheld base to follow.
It's a tightrope walk because this is an experiment that could go wrong and they'd want to have the (3)DS line still there kicking to fall back on. But if there doesn't appear to be enough conviction in this "merger" to draw in the crowd that usually buys their handhelds then it could go wrong anyway...
I'd be hard pressed to find a device that can't run Netflix and Hulu in my house so not a big deal for me. If Crunchyroll would finally make a smart TV app I'd have no need for streaming through the Wii U or PS4 at all.
This is one of those games I've constantly seen on my scrolls through PS4/Vita games on Amazon but never got around to buying it despite my piqued interest. Now that it's coming to the Switch, you can bet your candy @$% I'm buying it. 😎
All this Fire Emblem makes me wonder if Nintendo has always been really high on this series and was just waiting for a breakthrough to happen (Awakening) before going all in. It's pretty much getting top tier IP treatment now.
Still rocking a 3DS and not Switching over soon? No problem, here's a Fire Emblem!
Making the Switch? Here's a Fire Emblem crossover (and hey, you N3DS can have it too)! Btw, new game incoming!
Got a smartphone like billions of other earthlings? Have a Fire Emblem too!
Cosigned on this. More developers need to realize that it's not that their games can't sell on Nintendo platforms but they need to put the right games on them to sell.
That said, I do think Sports titles will be quite successful on the Switch. Being able to take FIFA and 2K on the go and easily play with friends at parties, school, work, etc. will be a big selling point.
Wasn't really interested the first time around. I might have bit if this made it to launch but nah.
@RainbowGazelle
It's mostly the Rayman situation but also too many people don't seem to (or even try to) understand the business decisions that go into deciding which platform a developer chooses to bring a game to. It's all or nothing for them. They just expect a developer to continue sinking money on a platform in the vain hopes that an audience for their game will eventually appear.
Interesting. I wonder how soon this is coming out if we're getting a Direct for it already. The teaser made it seem like it was pretty far away.
Wonder if they plan on announcing some smaller/eshop titles and addressing the VC situation with Directs in the lead up to launch? It's Kirby's 25th, I can't imagine we won't be getting a game or two this year.
Hilarious seeing this article right now. I was just reading a recent interview where Tetsuya Nomura (KH director) and the director of FFXV both said that they're interested in the Switch. Obviously what happened in the past has stayed there.
I'll join the chorus of NMH3, please and thank you!
Very interesting insight on the state of the console market in Japan. This was pretty obvious just looking at the Media Create charts regularly but the feeling is much different when you're hearing it from a game developer.
Ah shame but I really do appreciate the transparency and he sounds really genuine. Three studios couldn't get it to work and he has some friends who are still trying? That is some tenacity but also just really effed up that it's been THAT difficult. Hopefully the Switch era will be the promised land of easy ports and put the dark days of hardware cutting down developers who actually WANT to support Nintendo behind us.
Not at all. I'm the same way actually. Christmas was 'meh' af. Can't remember another year that it truly felt like any other random day-- just with more food and gifts.
But I'm literally counting down the days and hours until the Switch event. Hopping from site to site to discuss every piece of news and scrutinize every rumor, watching Youtubers speculate and discuss , and just in general bask in the hype. Switchmas is definitely the correct term to use!
I appreciate their honesty in having difficulties and that they're willing to keep going even though dropping it to hop on the Switch bandwagon is probably the smarter move at this point. Hope it all works out. I'll keep these guys on my radar and pick up this game when it's out.
I'm partial to Red to begin with but it's just such a bold color and really imprints on the mind. Gives the impression that Nintendo is really passionate about what they're doing here and are boldly going forward. So glad they went back to it.
I voted excited but keeping expectations under control but it's really more like HYPED AS F--- ... yet still keeping my expectations under control.
Just ready to have a solid idea of what the price and launch line up is going to be so I save accordingly. I plan on having whatever bundle there is + 2-3 additional games.
@Clownshoes
Can't speak for everyone else but I bought a Shield tablet last year that turned out to be a lemon and haven't bothered to replace it since I returned it. I buy Nintendo consoles and handhelds each generation so having that all rolled into one WITH what's essentially a Shield tablet? Could not be more appealing to me. In fact, a better scenario than I could have imagined since I'll now get TONS more mileage out of this device than I would have with the Shield.
Splatoon is a beast. I've been really digging the thought of Ninty having the Switch version as the pack in game, I can't imagine it wouldn't move a ton of units in Japan.
I got two pairs of the Nintendo Vans for myself (Peach and the NES controller hi tops) and one for my niece (Mario & co). Absolutely beautiful to look at but the fit on none of them were quite right. I paid special attention to the measurements when ordering and even used my pair of Hello Kitty vans for comparison so I can only assume it was just the way they were made. We both eventually "broke" our shoes in but still was just a little bitter in what should have been a completely sweet experience.
Never been a fan of Jordan's but I'm definitely a fan of these. I'll totally dip if I have the cash when they release.
If this turns out to be true, that'd pretty much seal the deal on me trading in/selling off my current copy of Splatoon and just get it on the Switch instead.

Just the 30 second version of this ad will cost Ninty between $5-5.5 million to run.
I'm so proud. ;___;
Re: Fire Emblem Heroes Microtransaction Prices and Early Impressions Emerge
Depending on how many orbs it takes to summon Heroes, these prices actually aren't bad. Cheaper than what I'm used to with gacha based games.

As a DBZ fan... idk about Xenoverse 2. My youngest brother mainly played the first one and I haven't seen him touch it in ages.
Never played a Tales game. Heard certain ones were fantastic and others could be passed on so depending on which one this is, I may try it out.
But as wonderful as this news is... WHEN IS TEKKEN THOUGH? D:
