@AndyC_1101 Maybe some editing happened, but by the time I read the article, there was a mention of patio heaters and other items as well. Doesn't change the fact that the kid must have started with quite a hefty amount of money to begin with, though.
"He pulled in $1.7 million in revenue, making $110,000 in profit" - so this teenager with rich parents plays a scalper as a hobby. Weird, but I don't see how its worth giving attention, let alone praise.
I'm watching the daily videos showing off demons and I'm glad to see that some ones that didn't show up in a long while are coming back. Curious to find out how many paths SMTV will have.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Because they don't care and it affects negatively only a small portion of their audience. Plus, usually it's not on Nintendo to decide just how many of these CEs are made.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Probably because collector's editions are generally useless and doubly so on other platforms where games hit bargain bins and sales very quickly, so value of physical versions, let alone collectable ones, is perceived to be low by general populace. On the other hand, Nintendo products had attention of collectors for a while now and popularity of Switch ensures that there won't be a shortage of people willing to pay extra for CEs and special editions.
@RoguePirate Hollow Knight is a benchmark for great value Metroidvania as far as I'm concerned. This is a little bit more expensive, but I'm hoping for good reviews soon and decent sales in the future.
I've been following Pokemon games almost from the very beginning and feel pretty confident about my ability to see through Gamefreak. This game will be a trainwreck, but hardcore fans and journalists will defend it nonetheless.
@VoidofLight Dragon Quest by remaining the same generic JRPG over the decades is appealing to a pretty wide audience of: a) old people who don't have time to learn new tricks; b) casual players who just want to play an easy to digest RPG; c) kids who are just starting to play video games; Nothing wrong with that (although recycling of music themes ensures that whenever I have a good time with one DQ game I cannot pick up another immediately after) and thanks to that "lowest common denominator" aspect DQ games are bound to land on many "TOP X" lists.
Instead of honing a skill (can be done by playing almost any other game), this mad man chose to do the most mind-numbing grind possible. Chapeau bas to his commitment for sure.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Actually, in Japan "everyone" plays Monster Hunter. It's not considered a game for hardcore players or anything like that. It'll probably keep coming back to the number one position for the next month or so.
@Varkster I remember a gigantic marketing campaign behind World. All kinds of websites were covering it, even some that hardly dealt with video games in general. One of the most notable cases being Joe Merrick of Serebii fame, exclusively covering Pokemon titles, who was approached by Sony to promote World and PS4 (but their offer was turned down). Rise seems much more genuine in comparison (and the first content update here is much better than in World).
Doesn't seem like there are many changes to the battle system. It's mostly more characters to control and other fluff. But I like how many monsters previously not seen in Stories appeared in the trailer. Gammoth and Duramboros should be fun Monsties to ride. Plus the best weapon, Gunlance, is usable.
Once physical media for games are finally phased out, just as Sony and Microsoft have wished for years to kill the second-hand market, and subscription services for games are the norm, I will probably quit video games altogether.
@Joeynator3000 I was also pleasantly surprised with High rank at first... But then I crafted High rank armor and it's back to not-very-challenging. Add to that all the armor spheres you're given for free and it's not particularly difficult to last well into High rank with an early Low rank armor with a piece or two swapped out along the way.
The moment I knew Rise just doesn't manage to capture the spirit of old Monster Hunter (despite being a really good game) was when Rajang "invaded" one of my quests (I immediately went to investigate the question mark on my map, curious to see what it was), but it didn't leave the secluded part of the map and slept through the whole quest.
While I'm leaning towards Rise being easier than previous games, a big part of it stems from a ton of streamlining and shorter path towards good equipment. I wouldn't count that against the game, though, since we haven't even seen the first content update yet, let alone G-rank in this new system.
I expected a bigger gap, considering that Rise released on only one system. So far I have 14 hours on the clock and it's such a smooth experience I'd say it's the best Monster Hunter has ever been for new players.
I still have the disc with PC version. The game wasn't very good back then (I've managed to power through it thanks to fun localization) and it baffles me it was released on Switch AND even shown in Direct.
As far as fun horror games from that time period are concerned, I wouldn't mind Ghost Master released on Switch, preferably with a sequel backed by Nintendo.
I don't care too much about scores, but while checking out metacritic I came across a review from a Czech site claiming that Rise "is missing the best part of MH gameplay, which was tracking monsters in World" and that was quite an eyebrow raiser for me.
Other than that, Rise appears to have a typical reception you would expect from reviewers for a Monster Hunter game not backed up by a huge marketing campaign.
Solo-hunter here. I'm glad hub quests in Rise scale with number of players, because some challenges in GU were a bit too extreme for me to do repeatedly.
All these comments debating which version to choose make me wonder why people would hurt themselves by not playing turn-based JRPGs about killing gods and demons in the comfort of their beds.
Having a chibi aesthetic in a remake when the original games didn't aim for it (it was merely hardware/team's limitations) doesn't make much of a sense. 2.5D sprite style would be much better for keeping the spirit of the originals, while giving these new games some unique flair to differentiate it from other Pokemon titles. Then again, I'm generally not a fan of Pokemon remakes, because they're always super safe and never do enough to justify their prices.
I'll happily pick it up as long as it runs smoothly and physical release is priced at below 50 bucks in Europe. I've seen some pretty reasonable criticism from fans of the series and MH Rise is coming out in March.
That would have been completely against the spirit of Scrooge as envisioned by Barks and Rosa. Then again, Duck Tales always were a watered down version of Duck comics.
@RustedHero This way Capcom would maximize profits in China while driving sales on Switch in the west AND making people more eager for World's sequel. Any other deal than that wouldn't be too beneficial for Nintendo, I believe.
Doesn't seem like that great a deal for mere six months of exclusivity, unless I'm severely underestimating the impact of that on Chinese market. PC version exclusive to China - now that would be a different story.
@sdtrawick I've seen the art in the index and that's just not enough. The mechanics themselves didn't really strike me as particularly interesting, so monster designs were the last thing that could push me to giving the game a chance.
I'm a sucker for using the powers of the enemies you have beaten and this does look pretty nice, so I might pick it up as long as I find time next year between major Switch releases.
Was hyped for the pack until I saw the price of the digital version with no physical release in the west. I'll either wait for it to go down in price or show up in Europe on cartridge.
Looks amazing. Really glad to see third generation monsters returning. Great Jaggi's cousins were so much better than the -dromes. it's also cool to see a consistent theme for interesting new monsters. The ones in the last game were just so boring in design and half of them felt like bootleg versions of better known monsters.
This is a blend of genres I personally really enjoy, but blandness of the monster designs (and the artstyle itself being rahther uninteresting) is enough to keep me away.

Re: Teenager Hits $1.7 Million In Revenue During Pandemic Reselling Pokémon Cards, Game Consoles And More
@AndyC_1101 I'd imagine a business relying on that would quickly fall apart. You need flexibility to move so many items.

What a roundabout way od saying that their product looked bad outside of carefully doctored trailers and adverts.

@TheFrenchiestFry Protagonist is called "boy" by the samurai spirit, so at least in this regard there won't be much ambiguity.

What a revolutionary concept. Surely, it won't fuel the scalper market even further.
Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Release Date Seemingly Leaked Ahead Of Nintendo's E3 Direct
@JuiceMan_V It's not like Pokemon fans play anything beside Pokemon anyway. Especially not games they consider to be "Pokemon clones".
