Capcom has finished the broadcast of its Monster Hunter May Digital Event, and it was another strong showing for Monster Hunter Rise fans with the unveiling of Version 3.0 - it releases today in North America (26th May) at 5pm Pacific / 8pm Eastern, which is 27th May in Europe at 1am UK / 2am CEST.
As promised it lifted the lid (albeit only a little to avoid spoilers) on an all-new ending, along with the appearance of two daunting new monster variations.
The new ending looks intriguing, as an ominous darkness threatens the village. In terms of tangible actual details, you'll be able to take on quests that put you up against Crimson Glow Valstrax and Apex Zinogre. The former is an updated iteration of the showcase monster from Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, while the Apex Zinogre is covered in golden lightning and looks like a big pest.
In addition there is another paid DLC bundle, once again consisting of cosmetics like new hunter voices, poses, stickers and more. If you don't want to spend more then you're not missing any vitally important content.
Finally, Capcom outlined a roadmap for updates which, pleasingly, will continue with monthly updates. As you can see in the graphic below there'll be frequent new quests and content, with some being Capcom Collab themed additions.
Lots of good stuff there, are you excited about Monster Hunter Rise version 3.0?

I'm hoping for a surprise devil pickle to pop up in quests starting with this update.
Man, this game is rising up my list of games to buy.
Doesn't seem like too much new content so it might not keep me going for long but I'm still looking forward to the update, mostly because it's a good excuse to play something that isn't Subnautica.
Will they release more landscapes to visit, as free updates?
Finally, the ending. Hopefully it lives up to expectations.
Can't wait. bring on the secret monster's.
@IronMan30 You son of a &$%!*
this game rocks so much. Capcom is showing 3rd parties how it is done. MH STORIES 2 looks amazing as well. and we are getting ace attorney as well. this is going to be a great year for the switch and we have not even got to E3 yet!! with mario golf, skyward sword, NMH 3 and more switch got games baby!
@Preposterous watching everyone drop everything and starts running away from savagejho.
Cool. I’m very close to wrapping up every single hub quest and doing the final battle as the very last thing. I have no problem with Capcom keeping me playing MHR post credits. Keep’em coming
I put 50 hours into it already! I'm playing Mass Effect right now, but I'll get back to it soon.
My friends and I play it when we can (yay busy lives) and we are currently only at 6HR we havent even gotten done with the base content yet lol.
Just as I was getting close to being finished with this game, there's yet more content to keep me going. Crimson Glow Valstrax looks tough, but that should be a fun quest.
Really wanted the devil pickle! And gore!
@Preposterous What is "devil pickle"?
@LinktotheFuture
DevilJho. Visually not much different from a T-Rex save for stubby spikes along his body. And being his normal shade is green,he somewhat resembles a legged pickle 😂 So he's referred often as such.
Crimson Glow Valstrax and Apex Zinogre look insane! And the new final boss, with Apex Diablos and Apex Rathalos added to normal quests... all this on top of the half dozen monsters we got in the 2.0 update, including Teostra, Kushala Daora, Chameleos and Bazelgeuse...
That's a lot of extra monsters added in for free.
Fingers crossed there's another surprise or two waiting for us this time around too.
Even if this is it monster wise I've had a tremendous amount of fun with this game, one of the best on Switch if you ask me.
why am l not surprised. Probably because a lot of people guessed this
Finally they are finishing the game, now the next update might have something actually new to hunt for old hunters
This game shows how it should be done with free DLC! The game that keeps on giving and sooooo glad I brought it! Cheers Capcom! PS are you watching AC Devs?
@JaxonH Saying these monsters were added in for free is a bit misleading. I mean, the true final boss is included with this update. I think this is just delayed content. I am very excited and pumped to play all this, but it's not really "free".
@Lord gore should return! If xx was able to have him, then why not rise. Kinda want to play mh4u again, mood for chaos gore.

Rocket Powered Elder Dragon
@MisterMan
That's not true. I can see how it might appear that way, but it was planned from the start, just like MH World post release content. This post release content is consistent with previous games in the series. They just took a different approach this time.
At release, Rise had more monsters in the base game than World. And it had a final boss (it's not like it was missing a final showdown, that would be different). They just integrated the story in such a way they could add another rendition of the final boss as post release content to hype up the updates..
So saying it should have been in the game doesn't really have merit. It's absolutely free content, same as all the other post release monsters added in. They could have ended the story at Narwa in the base game and called it a day, and nobody would have blinked twice given the number of maps = World and number of monsters > World and it had a final boss like World all on launch day.
@JaxonH Sorry, but I strongly disagree with you on this. I'm not saying that Rise is lacking on content at all, so I'm not sure why you're bringing the monster count. But the story didn't have an ending in 1.0. As it stands, Rise has been my favorite MH game and I'm not complaining, but when you pay $60 for a game and then they release an ending a few months later, you can't really say that the ending was free.
We had a few surprises with the last update... Is today's shorter showing hiding something extra...?
EDIT: C'mon, Gore Magala... You can do it, buddy!
That's a surprise...I didn't expect to see Valstrax of all monsters to make a reappearance. I personally would have loved to see something like Gore/Shagaru Magala, but that's just me.
Anyway, not much (at least not much said openly, they didn't mention Bazelgeuse's return but there it was) but still nice to see the game getting all these free updates.
@MisterMan
That's fine, you can disagree. And I'm not questioning your motives for the opinion you hold. But the monster count is relevant, because arguments of "should have been in the game" implies the game is lacking content. But it's not lacking content, as evidenced by the monster count, as evidenced by having even more content than the last one. If it were lacking a final boss, then you could make an argument that it should have been there. But it had a final boss.
All they did was tweak the story at the end so that instead of saying, "it's dead, great job!" they said, "I sense it may not be dead". So it's not like the story was incomplete. It was just amended to leave the door open for a final showdown, so that this content wouldn't feel disconcerted.
Besides which, even if you discount the final boss, it's still close to 10 additional monsters added in anyways. So either way, it's gobs and gobs of free content above and beyond a base game that already had a higher monster count than the last one.
@JaxonH OK, I think you're just having a separate argument with yourself at this point.
@JaxonH well said on all of your points you have mentioned above
excited to get started on this new update for sure. hoping we get a quest that has all the elder dragons together / 3 apex monsters together - bring on the beefy material drops!!
@LA_Blue
What's even more exciting, is the reliable leaker who's been consistently feeding us info about MH Rise told us yesterday everything about this update, including Crismon Glow Valtrax and the layered armor for rampage weapons...
and they say we're getting 3 additional monsters beyond what was mentioned! I'm not sure if I want to get my hopes up, but they confidently insist there are 3 surprise monsters in this update, which are not Apex monsters, that Capcom did not showcase in the Direct
#BigIfTrue 😁
@JaxonH we gonna have 3 more monsters beside the one Capcom anounced? Devijho, Tetsucabra and Zemtrios?
I’m @ hr36 so a few more monsters, Teostra and I’ll finally be right with this update and everyone else! Excited! My GOTY
Best game I had in a VERY VERY long time. Loving every minute of it. Yes, it's more streamlined and "accessible" than older titles. Yes that means it's "easier". But hey. It's still great. And I think Stories 2 will be MUCH better than it already looks judging from the trailers.
@Giancarlothomaz most likely they are the secret monsters in this new update.
