@electrolite77 One can justify a lot with "perceived value", especially when marketing experts are hired to make sure it's high enough. I will have a hard time recommending Switch Lite to my friends, who have expressed interest in Switch Mini in the past, due to the pricetag and having to pay full price for games which will be playable in their worst state with literally no advantages. Lite makes sense for families with multiple systems, and even then it's mostly because of no option to buy Switch without the dock in the west (at least as far as I know).
@Yorumi As usual, the cheaper product, theoretically more fitting for those with lighter wallets, actually has a bad "feature-per-dollar" value and the more expensive version is a much better deal. Add to that games that cost more than on other dedicated handheld devices and the only reason it's going to work, while making Nintendo some crazy money, is because there's no competition.
I hope that along with this new model a revision to eshop is coming. There has to be a way for people to tell whether a game works better as a handheld or a console title - maybe something along the lines of user surveys on 3DS. User reviews and tags would be the best option, though.
All these articles gave me a Pokemon itch to scratch, so I'll be picking up a dualpack of Pokemon Cyber and Pokemon Sleuth. Also looking forward to Pokemon Yokai Watch 4 version next year.
With so many Switch games on my plate at the moment I'll either try to hunt down a physical copy for cheap somewhere down the line or just get it digitally on sale once I'm done with everything else, if only for the sake of novelty.
@CosmoXY Should have said from the start you only wanted to argue about semantics and not the matter at hand. Your comment wasn't technically incorrect, but definitely (if not also intentionally) misleading.
@CosmoXY You would still enter the same gym in Opelucid city and face the same trainers before fighting against the leader with exactly the same Pokemon (checked this time), the only difference would be trainer's sprite and text. Now it's content split between two versions for the sake of making buying the same game twice more appealing. Imagine splitting NPCs from Breath of the Wild between two games: Legend of Zelda Breath and Legend of Zelda Wild (with complete experience, Breath of the Wild, being released a year later).
@CosmoXY As far as I remember, back then it was just a single gym, Dragon typed in both versions, and the actual difference was just a single Pokemon, so not even close to the same thing.
People still cry about ice cream Pokemon, curious to see how a giant wedding cake Pokemon will be perceived.
Also not sure what to think about locking certain gyms/characters behind an additional 60$ purchase. It was already awful in Fire Emblem Fates.
It's probably more that Pokemon spin-off games never sold even close to mainline numbers and it would be too much effort to make, since It's not mainline course that can be reheated multiple times with minimal resource spending.
So coming this fall Switch owners looking for some monster catching action will have a choice between a pack of two games released as one or one game split for completely arbitrary reasons into two separate releases? It's going to be a hard choice.
@Xelha Pokemon isn't even priority anymore for Gamefreak, so dedicated fans have that going for them. Personally, I would prefer to see all that talent put into making competition for Pokemon, instead of something that can be easily C&D'd.
Such a quick announcement should better translate to a much swifter western release than the previous games. Although I've seen all the movies, save for the most recent one, I hope something will be done to not leave anyone behind plot-wise.
Not my kind of game, I don't really like Visual Novels. On another note: if Larry, Senran Kagura and a ton of VNs aimed at fujoshis found their way to the Switch, then there's room for this game as well.
@nintendoknife I'm fully aware of that, but it really doesn't matter, because there's no winning an argument on the Internet anyway (lack of non-verbal communication is half of the problem, because meek people will easily take offense to stern, but not impolite language). People don't "discuss" online to have someone change their mind, but to feel validated and it's best to call them on it. You could argue that bystanders who just read the comments could be influenced, but then you don't want to sugarcoat things either, since no one is going to see conviction in mister nice guy.
@nintendoknife I don't think it's worth being nice to people who are going to flip-flop in their stance depending on who is nicer to them. You either take the bitter pill of truth or continue to drink the sweet nectar of lies that marketing teams masterfully brew. Especially if we're talking about ignorami who don't care about subject at hand, but desperately need validation.
@westman98 Gamefreak is Gamefreak and EA is EA - doesn't mean it cannot change in the future. People didn't imagine Pokemon being cut from mainline games a year ago, and yet here we are, staunchly defending a company's right to deliver less for more.
@JaxonH What a spectacular way to show the power of your arguments.
@westman98 It's about being an enabler. EA wasn't all that bad 20 years ago, but people content with mediocrity and bad business practices allowed them to become what they are now.
@graysoncharles Don't tell me you thought your insightful comments along the lines of "you guys are arguing about this again?", "stop being entitled" and "you just don't know how it all works" are actually useful in any manner? You're probably the last person to moderate this discussion, I'm afraid.
@JaxonH I've called you a bad person for admitting to know what's the issue and still insisting that people have no right to complain just because you're content (vide the McDonald's example). Now go on, continue to simplify things to put yourself in a good light. I admit to feeling very strong about anti-consumer practices. Your labelling me as an extremist is no different from EA crying about fans unjustly fighting against the "surprise mechanics".
@JaxonH I really hope you're being obtuse just for the sake of trolling. If you seriously think my comments are "relentless harassing" or that you have written nothing that could reasonably upset others, then you're either sheltered or suffer from a victim complex (which would actually make a lot of sense).
Just let me tell you that your comments have collected a hefty amount of "5+"; you're a bad guy to someone, whether you like it, or not.
@NEStalgia It's rare to see someone so openly admit to not only creating strawmen to easily beat in his mind, but also repeating "I'm rational" so many times it begins to look like a joke.
I honestly have no idea where all those "Why are you complaining about this thing I don't care about? Be rational and indifferent like me, you ridiculous person" folks come from. Do you personally attend protests in real life and harass people about caring about something? You're just adding fuel to the fire and then wonder why it's gotten so hot.
@JaxonH Then just admit to being a bad person who doesn't mind making things worse for everyone else and move on.
@JaxonH I just wanted a clear answer how you approach this whole thing, but I'm guessing from your tone that deep down you're not comfortable with it yourself. I, for one, would have a hard time giving money to someone who lied to me in cold blood.
By the way, most of the time people are allowed to do bad things not because someone actively supported them, but because the majority was indifferent to the wrongdoing.
@JaxonH I would expect that issue to be at the very least adressed, if you really were against it. In situations like this silence is equal with indifference or even acceptance. So you acknowledge their lies, but still intend to support GF with your money?
I would like to see a follow-up on this where games like Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water were released on Switch in their full glory.
Repairing damage done to Fire Emblem Fates would be nice as well.
@nhSnork XC2 characters had their skin covered only in Smash Bros. Ultimate.
@graysoncharles Sure, but other versions don't load very well either. If anything, it's on the devs for cluttering the tracks with pointless stuff, even if it's reduced in the Switch version. Every time I see an unnecessary detail in the background I wonder if Beenox had their priorities straight - maybe other versions would be able to run at 60 fps if they had some more restraint.
If they don't improve the loading times, I don't see myself playng it beyond 3 weeks from now (and even then that's not guaranteed). It's fun and all, but not as good as it could be.
@Galenmereth Content people were given plenty of opportunities to be heard. In fact, on sites like NL they were the only ones allowed to voice their opinion in form of soapbox articles. Not sure if you're aware of that, but it's also in your best interest to have the negative feedback be not only visible, but also acknowledged. People don't complain to make you feel bad, but because they care more than an average Joe.
@Galenmereth The best part about "voting with your wallet" is that it basically boils down to getting a form with a single option available [Yes, I like this] and the alternative is not voting at all, thus not sending any message. There were (and still are) political systems where it works like that and it's not pretty.
It's like watching the Olympics, the amount of mental gymnastics performed by Gamefreak apologists is just astounding. I'm just very disappointed in seeing so many logical fallacies and strawmen, not to mention the sheer ill will some exhibit by purposefully ignoring or outright misrepresenting the points made by the dissatisfied fans.
I don't get how a sentence (used in the hashtag) "Bring back National Pokedex" could be weighed as neutral. It's a message with a clear intention, not an emotionless statement.
@Doktor-Mandrake The hitboxes were tweaked too much and because of that it's much more frustrating than the original trilogy. I've played through 2 and 3 a lot, but in N.Sane Trilogy would often die due to slipping off the platforms and being touched by tip of an enemy's nose. I guess that's not a technical issue per se, but fault of the port.
I hoped a little bit that CTR would dethrone Mario Kart once again, but loading times and ridiculous item shop really dampen my enthusiasm. The Crash N.Sane Trilogy was also a let down mainly due to technical, not strictly gameplay-related, issues and all signs point towards the same being the case with Spyro - what a shame.
@Einherjar "If you create a franchise entirely centered around an ever growing pool of critters, be prepared to do the legwork for it OR do a hard reboot." - This right here is the most crucial issue, as far as I am concerned. Pokemon has grown so big thanks to introducing a hefty number of new creatures every few years and bringing them back for every game. You cannot get rid of your franchise's most defining aspect, and not offer a big enough feature to compensate, without people getting upset about it. The way this was communicated to the public (and attempted to be excused) just made a bad situation worse.
Finally! I've waited for NintendoLife to openly defend this awful decision. You still have a chance to redeem yourselves by making a soapbox article presenting the opposite view, don't waste that chance.
@MrBlacky You don't really seem too sure of it yourself. But I'll say that one thing is certain: it's the complaining fans who get things done. Whether it's backlash from Metroid Federation Force telling Nintendo to go back to proper Metroid games or people pointing out how stupid would be online multiplayer without friends in Mario Maker 2, someone had to bring attention to the issue at hand. So zip it and be grateful that there are still people willing to take the heat and say how it really is.
@MrBlacky At least he cares about the franchise enough to voice his concers and encourage others to do the same, instead of mindlessly consuming products without asking any questions. If you don't like people complaining, don't engage with them and don't read their comments. That is how it works.

GF sticking to their guns in the newest interviews points towards a technical issue. The real excuse is probably that there's no more space on the cart thanks to Dynamax adding 3 or more identical models for each Pokemon (the embiggened model itself with all the transitional stages). GF's coding of gen 7 games was already extremely sloppy, with each area having separate set of models for all characters and objects and I seriously doubt much has changed in that regard in just a few years.
