@NandN3ds Good for you. Just don't check the like to dislike ratio on the "Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Gameplay - Nintendo Treehouse: Live | E3 2019" on youtube.
I wonder how much cotent has to be cut before the die-hard fans begin to question GF's decisions and maybe even hold back on purchasing new games. This is the future you have chosen by buying LGPE.
I just love how Nintendolife acts as if no one would recognize the game's name, so it's not mentioned in the article's title. The judgemental "if that's your cup of tea" is just icing on the cake.
I don't appreciate your attempts to dictate what I'm supposed to think, if that's not clear enough.
Making your Pokemon huge, while giving them a straight power boost, for a few turns is a really bland gimmick. Adding raids mechanic to the mix doesn't really make it any spicier. But I guess it somewhat justifies dedicating whole football fields to Gym battles, even though that's a rather flimsy reason.
If there's no actual gameplay improvements, especially to the battles, then it's a hard pass for me; I've tried playing Ultra Sun this year after almost a 2 year break from Pokemon and it was just a really boring experience.
@Damo There are dozens of Switch games released every week, but only one Pokemon movie per year (and watching a movie takes much less time than beating a game), so I'm sure you can do the math yourself. This preferential treatment is exactly what I have mentioned in my first comment. We're not talking about Pokemon-themed pajamas here, but feature films with considerable box office results. It's funny to see you going from "There's no inconsistency" to "it doesn't count", though (but I'm not sure why you're wrote 'inconsistant' like that, since I didn't make that mistake anywhere) - which again proves what I was saying about inconsistent and reactionary journalism of NL. All I'm asking for is fewer "clickbaity" articles, even if the core of your userbase seems rather indifferent about quality of your work, judging by how much hate was generated towards me.
I guess this topic is exhausted and I can only wish you a pleasant day.
@Damo "(...) We cover -all- aspects of Nintendo-related culture, which includes movies (...)". I'm sorry, but this doesn't seem to be the case. NL has skipped reviewing all those yearly Pokemon and Yokai Watch movies, entities directly based on video games exclusive to Nintendo systems - I'd call that being very inconsistent. Perhaps I'm just really bad at looking for them, but since 2008 NL has reviewed 8 movies in total, with only one of them being Pokemon-related. That's hardly enough to consider movies to be NL's field of expertise. Jumping on the bandwagon now with Detective Pikachu kind of undermines the work of actual movie reviewers, who do not skip 99,9% of releases to focus solely on what's the biggest at the moment. Furthermore, for some reason you have shied away from labeling this Tamagotchi review as a "Hardware Review", as though someone considered that field to require a higher level of expertise than movie reviewing or just didn't feel confident enough to jump into the harsh world of Tamagotchis. Even though it's very well written and surely would qualify as a proper review.
To sum up, I do not intend to bar you from producing any kind of Nintendo-related content, quite the opposite, but I still think you're far too reactionary as far as the scope of your articles is considered.
@fafonio @Bondi_Surfer No one told you to keep quiet when adults are talking? At the very least refrain from filling my inbox with your worthless input in the future.
I've had Armello on my radar even before the Switch version was announced, but I hardly have enough time to play my physical board games (and wanted to dive into the world of recently released in my country Keyforge), let alone a console board game...
@Damo Unless you're going to regularly feature movie reviews now, I would consider Detective Pikachu's review to be outside of your expertise. I'm merely pointing out inconsistency; you may want to group Tamagotchis, movies and other tangential products together as some special category instead of treating one or the other on preferential terms.
EDIT: Turns out you do movie reviews, but they're so rare it's easy to miss, the last one being from 2018 and then two in 2015. But my point still stands.
@Nanoline52 Your comment is literally pointless, as it doesn't adress the subject at hand, instead moving away from it by shooting the messenger. You have attacked one's supposed flaw of character in lieu of providing an argument.
@Nanoline52 That comment was really uncalled for. Complaining on the internet about other people complaining on the internet is beyond pointless, unless your intention is only to attack someone.
NintendoLife has recently done two articles on things outside of their expertise. One is labeled as a review, and the other is just a feature. Makes me wonder if some sort of a promotion campaign could be the cause of this state of things.
@BulbasaurusRex I wouldn't be so sure, unless we're talking about identifying animal images from up close or on Gameboy screen, since that's how that part of the brain works, apparently.
@BulbasaurusRex Does it really? I only watched the video, is there something about recognizing different animal species in the full study? They mentioned it being the same part of the brain, but no actual improvement of any skill.
If I understood it correctly, playing Pokemon games develop a useless part of a brain that does not correspond to any skill other than recognizing Pokemon? Pretty poor investment, considering how playing other types of games give you actually useful skills like improved reaction time or pattern recognition. At least the research itself sounds interesting and has potential for future breakthroughs in the field.
Cue die-hard Pokemon fans coming up with reasons why critics' reviews don't matter because they're mixed. Let's cut the pretense and just skip to the logical conclusion that only fans who liked the movie are allowed to talk about it, because obviously it was made only with them in mind.
@BakaKnight I don't know. But I do know that in order to not get spoiled, you should stay away from thematic sites. Worked like a charm for me with Endgame.
I'm intrigued by the new befriending system. Is it going to be something similar to what was present in Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon (although I didn't play that one), with specific Yokai requirements?
He correctly identified a problem (online games made specifically to be addicting), but his solution is short-sighted and limited to only one game. Not to mention he was hardly a person of virtue in his youth.
It's a really complicated feeling: studio I would like to see more games from is making a game in a series that I absolutely do not want to touch. I can already see NintendoLife articles in a few years: "Why is the new Legend of Zelda the best game MonolithSoft has ever done and the only one we care about?"
Gave it a try since Puzzle Quest was great, but ugly looking UI and overall poor presentation, typical for freemium games, scared me away almost immediately. Call me once they make a proper game.
And Zelda announcement at the very end is stealing the show once again. I wonder how annoyed other Nindie developers are right now. This is getting old.
"Ironically, the involvement of Ryan Reynolds could end up enhancing the performance of the film." - How is this ironic when studios hire popular actors only for the sake of boosting interest in a movie? The days when actors for voice over were hired based on their ability are long gone - celebrity voice overs are all the rage nowadays.
If at the time "151 Pokemon" was already a thing, then it must have been close to game's completion - not really surprising that TCG's development was already started (since it could be easily scrapped if the game didn't take off after all).
@Maxz It's kind of disappointing that NL lately has been producing more fake outrage articles like this or ones seemingly aimed to discredit a company/game developer someone on the staff is not keen of.
The commenters are actively supporting this behaviour too.
Seeing how many mobile games actually come to the Switch, I wouldn't be surprised if some definitive edition was made for the Nintendo console eventually.
Well, people starting to associate certain franchises with money-grubbing practices is one of the pitfalls of using them on mobile platforms. I wonder if anything will come out of that statement; Nintendo should definitely bet on building their "good guy" image at the moment.
@thesilverbrick Thousands of work hours were poured into 3DS installments as well, but that doesn't really mean much in case of Gamefreak, who are pretty infamous for their supper inefficient development process and coding. Just admit to being biased and favouring Pokemon because it's a franchise you like, but don't go complaining about shady business practices performed by other game companies in the future.
Also, I like how you ignored the issue of the game being split into two versions. Not even diehard Pokemon fans know how to defend that.
@thesilverbrick Similar effort would be put into it if it was on 3DS, but pricing would be completely different just because. Recycling great amount of assets made 6 years ago does not warrant a 60 usd price tag, while being split into two versions to boot.
@thesilverbrick Thanks for stating the obvious, but please tell me why Pokemon games on Switch should be more expensive than those on the 3DS if key development was done beforehand. That's the subject of this article: developers arbitrarily charging extra for their products.
@Rayquaza2510 My thoughts exactly. Pokemon models themselves are something made for Pokemon XY back in the day and nothing shown in the trailer looked like a game made for a system many times stronger than 3DS. Art style is one thing, but characters, map design and even battles looked way too similar to those seen on 3DS. That's what I meant in my original comment: criticizing Capcom is definitely just, but we should be consistent and not give a pass to developers under the Nintendo banner, as though Gamefreak was some indie developer with tight budget.
@Rayquaza2510 Not my intention at all. I've seen some people saying that at some point in development it could have been a 3DS title, but I don't think this notion is worth entertaining due to lack of any supporting evidence. The 3DS part was in relation only to Pokemon.
We have this discussion now and all will agree that Capcom is off their rocker, but in a few months everyone will be happy to pay 60 bucks for Link's Awakening Remake and Pokemon game made mostly with 3DS assets.
@ThanosReXXX Being so emotionally shaken that you seek comfort from an internet buddy ("Yes, you're correct and he's wrong. And his username is ridiculous!") is certainly a sign that you're taking all of this too personally, so at least a short vacation from the site (perhaps even internet altogether) would be advised for your mental wellbeing - especially if you think you're perfectly fine and there's nothing weird about your behaviour.
