We know you all love a good top ten UK chart on a Monday morning; what better way to kickstart the week?
Well, we have one for you right here - on time, no less! It's a strong week for the Nintendo Switch, despite the gargantuan launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (the new Modern Warfare 2, not the old Modern Warfare 2 - Activision being very creative with its game titles there), with the newly released Bayonetta 3 coming in at third place. Considering the franchise is generally regarded as being rather niche, we'd say that's a pretty darn successful launch! And a bit of controversy never hurts, right..?
Elsewhere, we've got the usual bunch making up the top ten, with Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga rounding out the pack at number ten, with Splatoon 3, Nintendo Switch Sports, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe charting just ahead. Jolly good show, Nintendo!
Meanwhile, however, Persona 5 has dropped out of the top ten to come in at number fifteen. It's still killing it on the Switch, though, with Nintendo's platform making up a whopping 81% of total sales.
Here is your look at this week's UK charts:

Really good showing for Bayonetta, I guess we can (partially) thank Taylor for this.
Also, solid second week showing for Sparks of Hope.
Let’s be honest, it was never going to outsell a CoD game that just released. And FIFA is just a month old.
So this is a great result.
@Big_Fudge Was about to say the same thing.
Just got Bayonetta 3 this morning, so will be on that once I finish the current game.
A good result, particularly for a console exclusive whose appeal is perhaps a little more niche than decades-old franchises. Let's just hope it sticks around for a little while longer at least.
@Big_Fudge : Finally retired after nine years on the charts?
@Big_Fudge GTA V has been right outside the top 10 for most weeks this year.
@BTB20 Last time it was in the top 10 was the 14 October (not that long ago), and it was in the top 10 for a few weeks before that too.
Good for Bayonetta. In the end the controversy helped much more than it hindered.
A little off topic but why does Modern Warfare get so much trouble for the name? God of War literally did the exact same thing for the 2018 title and no one gives them trouble. I just find it a bit strange is all.
I bought Bayo 3 Trinity and Sparks of Hope Gold Edition so I did my part.
Good showing for B3, especially against Cash On Delivery aka COD.
3rd is a very good start for Bayonetta 3 and it's nice seeing Switch still going strong in general.
@Silly_G
It will drop like a stone but it is stil a decent performance for a historically niche game.
I can't believe Bayonetta couldn't outsell CoD, how embarrassing...
All jokes aside, good showing for Bayo and I hope this one can be the most successful one in the series.
I can't believe people bought cod when the game isn't in the bluray and you have to download all of it, it's worst than the code in the box games on switch because with the code in the box it's clear written on the box
@nathatruc
Better than paying the full digital price and you can still sell it on afterwards.
A download code is not better as it is one and done.
Great going for Bayonetta.
@KindofaBigDeal I don't buy cod games and code in box is the stupidest thing released for the switch but you know what you're buying, the problem with cod is that not clearly written that you need to download 130giga because the bluray only contain 72mb. I think a lot of people will realise that only put the game in their console
@nathatruc
Oh I stopped buying CoD games after Modern Warfare 3 on 360. I agree that yes it should be clear on the box (a lot of kids will be waiting a long time for it to download on Christmas morning) but it still is useful for the resale option and cheaper physical price.
There are a lot of games I don't like from that Top 10 list above.
Oh, well.
I know what better games for me.
Good to see a strong start for Bayonetta 3. Not surprised at MW 2 being no. 1, will get the game eventually to play the campaign. MW 2019 was good so I have relatively high expectations for 2 as well.
Little shocked to see bayo3 outsell Gotham knights considering they both launched within a week of each other.
Next Monday will be interesting
@nathatruc it's not though, as you can sell your disc in a second hand market place but you can't sell your code in the box once you have used it.
@Silly_G Give it a week. It'll be back.
Third place behind Soccer and American Jingoism Simulator in the UK isn't bad at all!
@nathatruc : Despite all of the misgivings, and the fact that Activision are absolute ( Y ) holes for not including the game at all on the disc (Ultra HD Blu-rays come in 66GB and 100GB capacities, so their actions are utterly inexcusable), it's still a better value proposition than a code-in-a-box as the disc can be used with multiple consoles and/or resold.
I'd be interested to know if Activision merely used a 25GB standard Blu-ray in this case or actually had the gall to waste millions of 66GB Ultra HD Blu-rays for this pathetic joke of a "physical" release.
@R1spam the code in box is the worst thing and I don't understand why it exist, what I was saying is that call of duty was worst because it's not clearly written that there is nothing on the disc this year except a key and that you need to download everything, like the code in the box or the game that need a download on switch It should be clearly written on the box that why I sid it was worst and I hope customers will complain because I don't want it to be the new norm
I am happy for Bayonetta 3. After watching a little bit of the Naive Angel Mode I will decide whether it is for me. If it feels like a cool 12+ action game I will propably play it.
Streisand Effect is such a beautiful thing.
@nathatruc : The Xbox version's front cover states "Requires Content Download" while the PS4/PS5 versions state "Download Required". All versions state a 130GB storage requirement, however, the Xbox version also notes a 70GB+ initial download requirement (which is probably identical on PS4/PS5).
Such warnings definitely need to be more prominent though. Frankly, Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo shouldn't be permitting this sort of contemptible behaviour at all.
Congrats to Bayonetta 3, really liking it so far.
@Ralizah
''American Jingoism Simulator''
Holy crap that's amazing lmao, I gotta steal that.
@Bunkerneath Yeah, so? It not being in the top 10 isn't anything special or unusual anymore.
Edit: GTA V is at #13 right now, same as last week.
@Kienda COD is a billion $ franchise, and a exclusive game will never beat it's sales.
BAYO 3 IS MY FAVORITE GAME THIS YEAR! A MUST HAVE!
The real quesion is how much did Call of Duty's voice actors got paid
Up against two major releases that even Mario wouldn't be able to ruse above.
That's solid.
I do wish we had a Call of Duty game on the Switch.
Surprised to see Gotham knights in top ten with all the bad reviews .
If I could have one wish fullfilled people would stop buying Fifa.
So, I went to Texas Tech. For whatever reason, we throw tortillas at the kick off of the football game. Student leadership saw what a tremendous waste this was, so they suggested donating tortillas to the food bank instead of tossing them. Eight bins were placed about the stadium and guess how many tortillas were donated? Zero. This is what the Bayonotta boycott reminds me of.
Did anyone actually boycott? Did anyone donate to her suggested charities? I am not buying it- but it has more to do with the fact that I don’t need another game to play rn.
When the competition in the UK is COD and FIFA, it's hard to tell if these numbers are any good. I really, really hope this game does well. Whether this franchise continues or not, stylish character action games need to stick around.
@MythTgr Considering how Bayo 3 ends i have zero interest in a Bayo 4 unless it hard retcons that travesty of an ending Bayo 3 has. As for Viola yeah she has that air of DMC4 Nero in that no one asked for her, she takes away the spotlight from the reason we bought the game and overall doesn't deserve the place Platinum give her.
So uhh how'd that boycott go again?
Wow both Minecraft and GTA V are gone this week. Usually these two never leave the chart.
@ketrac
Possibly the most boring wish in the world.
@Ventilator thanks for the clarification. That’s exactly what I was saying. Third is like first on this occasion when going up against CoD and FIFA.
Great debut for Bayonetta 3! Hopefully it stays strong on the charts for a while.
3rd is a rather poor show for Bayonetta 3. We are talking about a $450M franchise here...
@Kienda I were thinking that B3 would be on first place too, if FIFA and COD didn't just release.
The juggernauts COD, FIFA and Assassins Creed is near impossible to beat for any game same week of release. A exclusive game sure can't beat these 3 franchises.
Hopefully Bayonetta 3 outsells the 2 first Bayo games after all it's media attention lately.
Just nice to see Switch Sports beating Splatoon 3. It's going to end up being one of the best selling games on the platform. Which it should, the game is great; easily the best way to play Soccer, Volleyball, Tennis, or Bowling in video game form (aside from VR).
