Great! Battletoads in Battlemaniacs is the only Battletoads game I didn't own anywhere else. I still won't own it, but will be able to play it legally at least.
Dragon Quest III 2D-HD release date. Long overdue. Not even an AAA game, but they announced several Directs ago, and still no date on the horizon.
Apart from that, I don't expect any big reveals in what seems to be the last Switch year as the only Nintendo console. Which is OK, understandable and doesn't mean there are no good releases coming, just not a new Mario, a new Zelda or even Metroid Prime 4.
@Mach_Rider My thoughts exactly. I love the original and have it on Switch already too. It should have enough new features and be on sale for me to consider buying it.
After all three previous games were released widely on normal stores, I expect this to be easy and cheap to grab too.
But will they include the NES original this time? With Ninja Saviours, Wild Guns and Pocky & Rocky Re-Shrined it didn't make much sense (well, in Pocky & Rocky's case maybe it did, because of the different levels), but this time it's a remake of an 8 bit game and the difference is much more appreciable, so it would be very interesting. I wish they include the original.
This is sadly yet another Inin standard release whereas a Steel Empire collection with this version, the Mega Drive original, the GBA entry and another NES game loosely related to the others exists in SLG upcoming line-up.
Hopefully, like many times before, we'll see the complete package surface on Amazon Japan for anyone to grab.
Been trying to grab a copy of Rocket Knight for Mega Drive for a long time, but it's in the three figures now. A personal little Holy Grail.
Very disappointed to not see it in the Mega Drive Mini 2 after the first one got Konami licenses. A retro collection will have to scratch the itch, and it comes with the other games in the series, although being a LRG release it's going to be digital unfortunately.
This one was teased too soon, and they have been giving us very scarce information over the years. It will be released with the next console on the market.
Profiteering is the right word. Even with barebones presentation I would have loved a Collection of all five volumes into one, considering it's going to be 3 games per volume, but I guess this is how Strictly Limited Games wanted to milk us all.
By the way, as usual with SLG releases, these collections will be available on Amazon Japan in a much less limited way. And cheaper.
I've been waiting for this release for a long time, can't understand why they have kept the date secret.
Anyway, when it comes to third-tier games that we don't have repeatedly anywhere else, I'm totally in. The only disappointment here is that it doesn't look like there's going to be a physical release, even from Pixel Heart themselves, who have released some otherwise digital-only games in the past.
I've been wanting to try it, but failed to do so because of several reasons: never bought it on the 3DS Virtual Console and it didn't work in my extended -ahem- NES Classic Mini (it is one of those few games that simply won't work). Now I have no excuse.
Well, I like them, but people also said "Mario's voice is definitely Charles Martinet's, and NintendoLife even posted an article confirming it, but in the end it wasn't him. So you never know.
This time I'll have to go with the individual releases, which I salute for a change, because the collection severely overlaps with other releases such as the aforementioned Kunio-kun: The World Classics Collection.
I'll have to think about Super Double Dragon, because I have it on the Evercade (and that one is the better Japanese version surprisingly), but Double Dragon Advance is a no brainer: too expensive in its original format, this will be my first time with it.
So there's officially no need to buy standalone Taito Arcade Archives releases, because they'll potentially be in the third collection, in which the games will have the same features seen in Hamster's releases, and physically on top of that.
I hope this gets released physically in Europe by a publisher other than any of the limited ones. Digital Eclipse releases have been mostly made available in normal stores until now.
So let me get this straight, because I keep hearing contradictory reports about this in all these M2 ShotTriggers line: if we buy the physical version do we get the ports in the cart or are they paid DLC too, like in the digital version?
I hope Super comes with the Japanese version, regarded as better, too. Advance is great to have as the original is way too expensive.
Collection including the four numbered ones and the aforementioned two is also great news. But I already own those four, three of them inside the Kunio-kun collection on Switch, so I'll be watching it and if the extras are good enough I'll semi-double dip. If not, I'll have to settle for Super and Advance on digital sadly.
And soon they'll all be available on Switch, thus making the 3DS purchase useless. I hope at least it means we'll finally get the Japan exclusive ones too, at least in Japanese thanks to the region-free Switch.
Problem is this content is what should have been released one year ago, as well as the physical edition itself. They pulled the trick with Sonic Mania and did it again.
@SpringDivorce It's strange, though, because those releases usually include domestic ports, all of them when there are several. Well, I'll keep an eye on the Japanese physical release of S-Tribute, as usual, too.
Weird. A physical edition of a game that has been around for such a long time usually is an edition available in normal stores, and LRG and the likes specialize in releasing physical games relatively shortly after the digital release (and sometimes after a few years it does also appear an edition for anyone to grab at normal stores). This combination here is new to me.
@KingofRedLions Yes, that's what I did, and then Toad said he would show me the DLCs or something like that, I gotta say it was a very clever way to make it part of the game. But then it would only allow a credit card or an eShop card as payment methods...
Just to be sure: even merging funds it's not possible to make in-game purchases anymore, right? I made some purchases yesterday, but they were from the eShop website (and for some reason the automatic download didn't work, although after searching the bought games on the console's eShop it said "download again").
I tried to acquire the Mario Golf season pass, which isn't possible directly from the eShop, but it prompt me to add a card, and it wouldn't get the money from the merged funds I had.
I'm definitely interested in these collections, although I agree that they've been managed horribly.
The thing is I have entries 1 and 3 on the Evercade, Mega Drive versions. Now Retro-Bit releases those and Syd of Valis on physical for the Mega Drive, yet the Switch collection has the PC Engine versions, the fourth entry and, aside from Valis 1 and Syd for the MD, also the MSX game, which is a surprise. Novelties are my soft spot.
But! In Japan they have the two collections (sadly separated also) on Switch cards, which would be my choice if those releases came translated, and it is not the case.
I guess the way to go is buying these collections on a Western eShop, plus they get on sale every now and then. And you can pick individual titles too, which is a welcome possibility.
@Tom-Massey Well, I can't say it 100%, but someone on Twitter made a comparison and I did see a list somewhere with all the contents in the Japanese version too and the western versions didn't appear, whereas the Western release does have them. Maybe we'll have to wait and see.
@Tom-Massey Oh, I see... But this is the same edition that will be available on Amazon Japan, more reliable in terms of customs and delivery speed. And cheaper down the line.
The problem is this Japanese edition doesn't include the Western versions, and from what I checked they do have differences in terms of difficulty, for instance.
This is one of the ugliest moves I've seen in video game publishing.
But reading the review I'm under the impression that aside from the digital and the SLG versions there is a retail one too. Physical, I mean. Is that right? Because I can't find it.
I know it's going to release on Amazon Japan for everyone, not limited, but that will be in a few months and it doesn't include the western versions (by the way, are there regional differences?)
In case there is a comprehensive retail version I would consider buying it on a sale, because I already have all of this one way or another (minus the SG-1000 version), but having it in a single package would be nice too. Still on the verge. If this would have included the PC Engine entries, though...
That's what should have been in the first release, even in the retail non-limited one.
I don't know if I'll get it, though. I have all the games elsewhere, some of them more than once. It wouldn't be worth it just for the SG-1000 version.
Why shouldn't it arrive to the West? Except from a couple remaining titles that came to the PS4 Arcade Archives before the Switch even existed all of them have been coming regularly.
I for one salute this release, which the article fails to say, although Hamster did it on Twitter, that marks the 300th Arcade Archives release.

@FishyS Exactly what I think.
Besides, I think they should have made a new entry in the series, closer to DK94 than the minis thing, but new after all. They didn't.
