"Once again, the physical version will include the "full base game" on a 64GB cartridge."
What? It should be "exceptionally". And with 16GB storage requirement... That's surprising. That's the reason publishers give for releasing game key cards: not taking advantage of the full 64GB cards.
It's nice that it keeps track of individual sessions, but the overall time spent in games is 1 hours or more and 5 onwards, like the Switch 1 did before the Switch 2 came. Heck, even the Parental Control app keeps track in more detail than this.
Besides, doesn't show my playtime in 3DS and Wii U even though I linked the old Nintendo Network ID to the current Nintendo account.
@FrowardCoast440 This I know. But as a buyer I want to know if that extra money is going to give me something that I don't have with the Switch 1 version.
@FrowardCoast440 I was talking about physical, of course. Well, I'm glad it's not a GKC, but 10 extra bucks have to be for something, and in this case it can't be better performance. That's why I was asking.
Now we need to know the difference between Switch 1 and 2 versions. There is a price difference, but performance-wise is it justified? I mean... These are titles that OG Switch can handle.
By the way, they explained in an interview the absence of N64 and Dreamcast games: they simply can't emulate those consoles... Yet.
Gonna get it for Switch as a real physical release, but depending on the performance reports (I suspect they are going to make the Switch 2 version way better in order to lure is into the GKC s*it), I may jump to PS5 versions of III and I-II. I haven't bought III yet because I have never seen it on sale, which is weird for a non-Nintendo game.
It's a good thing that I-II has new story content, the fact that they come together shows how short they were (they really were), but I guess they needed a little bit more to justify full price.
@Tom-Massey I agree, it's a little cumbersome, and I can't help thinking that the developers made the game with the twin stick controls in mind, but I went for traditional after realizing that my scores (and my survival chances) were higher this way. Made me feel a little like the small dog of the meme, but had a lot of fun.
I have to admit that didn't even try the custom controls.
I've tried for reviewing it myself and not being any good at gallery shooters or shooters in general I must say it has been a blast and I've been able to clear it with the maximum of 3 credits that it allows.
Really varied, and once you get used to the controls it has the one-more-go factor that is as enticing as any arcade game from the era it evokes.
What still troubles me the most isn't as much the price (Nintendo doesn't rerelease its past games as budget games) as the fact that this release lessens the value of 3D All-Stars as a cartridge to play. It makes it a 2 game cart for existing owners. Weird move, especially when Galaxy 1+2 is a Switch release, not Switch 2. So could've been done the right way (4 games) years ago.
I'll say it again. Too late, they started releasing these collections so many years after the digital releases that nobody expected this, so we already have most of the games. It's a shame.
A game like this, for the importance of the series alone, should have been released physically, Capcom should have put on pause their digital only policy this time, the same way they did with other releases. All these years later and still it's trapped in digital storefronts.
Anyway, I started with the Mega Drive entry, I love it despite its difficulty, but the original entry is brutal. Coincidentally I played it yesterday on an arcade bar in Barcelona, didn't even get to the river. So hard...
@LastFootnote Bad timing then. "Hey, you have to purchase Super Mario Galaxy 1 again, but don't worry, there are 2 additional pages. By the way, we are releasing the actual book, but of course, without those additional pages".
Let's address the elephant in the room: two additional pages who are underlined as a big incentive for the double-dip, but they didn't manage to put them in the physical book, which nobody asked for anyway.
So, what's the reason? Did they come up with the 2 new pages after manufacturing the book or what?
Didn't they say that the Switch 2 version was delayed because they changed their mind about it being a game key card after the backlash of titles such as Sonic x Shadow and Yakuza 0? Why are there no news about this? And what about the rumour about Switch 2 cards in smaller storage sizes being manufactured at last, thus opening the door for third-parties to put their games in more affordable and fitting cards?
Aside from the price, I can't shake off the feeling that this SMG version is what should have been in the first place. And then there's the fact that 3D All-Stars owners will have one game duplicated in our collections, and no reason to play SMG in 3D All-Stars anymore, which in practice leaves that collection with only 2 titles.
This release seems a half-baked way to please 3D All-Stars owners with the game that collection lacked and new adopters, which will get the best possible way to play Galaxy and Galaxy 2... but without 64 and Sunshine.
Still on the fence, but this time they haven't said it's a limited thing, so we have time to think about it.
So it's not a problem of actual cards being too expensive because they only come in 64GB form, huh? They don't do it right because they don't freaking want is all.
The same they announced for DQ I+II, and it sucks.
You can be against but at the same time understand that they use GKC because normal cards are too big and expensive, that's on Nintendo, but doing this **** is on Square Enix. Shame on them.
They're definitely more expensive than ever. All of them. DK and Pauline was too, but if we complained about Skyward Sword Zelda amiibo, we can fasten our seatbelts from now on.
They didn't have to make us buy Galaxy 2 again... Ugly, ugly move. As if it wasn't expensive enough...
I was fearing a Switch 2 edition of 3D All-Stars with Galaxy 2 included. It's worse. If you want this physically you have to buy one game you already have.
I need to see the "more" to start thinkinh about selling the Switch 1 version to help paying the new one. But if progress can't be transferred it's a no.
Excited when I saw it, but then I remembered that while the NES, SNES and other controllers will continue working for some games even if the NSO service shuts down, this admittedly beautiful piece of plastic will be obsolete some day, and it's 80 euro plus shipping.
They should've emulated the console on 3DS, which had built-in stereoscopic 3D, so I'll stick with the alternative way to play these games there.
@electrolite77 Yeah, but I don't have the option of buying Street Fighter 6 on card. Anyway, this is not the place to have this endless debate. Agree to disagree.
@dew12333 Well, I can see your point, and digital embracers definitely must see it as a step forward because of the possibility to lend and sell the games, sure.
But a vast majority of third-party games on Switch 2 are going to be released this way, and I hope you can see how physical lovers are disappointed. In fact, it's hurting Switch 2 versions' sales and it seems that Sega is pushing Sonic Crossworlds forward in order to release it on a full physical card.
I think options are the way to keep people happy, but game key cards can only satisfy digital buyers.
@electrolite77 Then it's easy: keep it at physical or digital, nothing in between. I, and I'm not exactly the only one, collect games and aside from playing them I love to see them on my shelves.
@X68000 Yes, it appears that it's becoming a trend. The goal is making us buy digital so they can cut costs. No doubt about that.
@dew12333 The thing is they're digital games in a physical box, and you have to insert the card in the console, so it doesn't have the pros of owning a physical game nor the only good things about digital games, which is no shelf space needed and the ability to change games without the need to stand up and fetch them.
@X68000 No, but the backlash received by Game Key Cards is there for a reason. It's not the same as having a part of the game on disc and downloading the other part. It's a glorified code in a box.
I've been playing the series over the years, and just when I was going to start Seven Sirens the lost entry resurfaces. I think I'll get it for Game Boy Advance despite the extra money, but it will feel more authentic.
The no-map exploration felt annoying in the first Shantae, but I fell in love with the series nonetheless, so it's not a dealbreaker for me either.
Can't wait for the physical western release, Amazon Japan shipping and taxes are insanely high these days, and I don't want to pay the extra cost only to see it launched here a few months later, so I'll wait. I definitely want to have it in my collection.
That's the same offer from last year, and my group benefited from it, but I honestly preferred when they gave extra points to the account admin, that was 14 € for me. LOL
One of the games that escaped my grasp when I decided to buy a Game Cube after skipping that generation, but the game was already too expensive. Now I can get it off my chest.
In May 2024, Hamster announced ACA 2 Neo Geo[c] for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Main features of standard ACA 2 Neo Geo games include Time Attack and Network (online play) modes.
Arcade Archives has always had all the features from ACA Neo Geo, thus the upgraded version is expected to have them too. If not, I can't see why the difference in price between Switch and Switch 2 version, as if it wasn't enough to double the price of regular arcade releases, which I find reasonable but many people think should be cheaper because of their age.
Wait a minute: Switch 2 version, the Arcade Archives 2 version, the 16,99 € one, wasn't supposed to come with online multiplayer and other enhancements over the standard version? Why the couple extra euros / dollars / pounds then?
It smelled like Switch since its release on PC. Deserves a physical edition. Question is: do we count them as 50 games? I know I count compilatons as so many games as they include, but what about this? They are full games, right?

Re: Review: Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake (Switch 2) - Rounds Out The Erdrick Trilogy In Style
It would be nice to know how the Switch 1 version turned out. Because many of us want to go real physical with this release.
Plus, Switch 1 version on a Switch 2. I mean... It has to be slightly better than on original Switch, right? Even if it's not 60 fps.
I've heard people say DQIII on Switch was "unplayable", which has to be an exaggeration, but I guess the game on Switch 2 must perform better.
Re: The First Review For Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Is In

So it was not in order to make a proper physical release after backlash from other Sega Switch 2 releases. The rumour wasn't true then. PS5 it is.
