@electrolite77 Then it's easy: keep it at physical or digital, nothing in between. I, and I'm not exactly the only one, collect games and aside from playing them I love to see them on my shelves.
@X68000 Yes, it appears that it's becoming a trend. The goal is making us buy digital so they can cut costs. No doubt about that.
@dew12333 The thing is they're digital games in a physical box, and you have to insert the card in the console, so it doesn't have the pros of owning a physical game nor the only good things about digital games, which is no shelf space needed and the ability to change games without the need to stand up and fetch them.
@X68000 No, but the backlash received by Game Key Cards is there for a reason. It's not the same as having a part of the game on disc and downloading the other part. It's a glorified code in a box.
I've been playing the series over the years, and just when I was going to start Seven Sirens the lost entry resurfaces. I think I'll get it for Game Boy Advance despite the extra money, but it will feel more authentic.
The no-map exploration felt annoying in the first Shantae, but I fell in love with the series nonetheless, so it's not a dealbreaker for me either.
Can't wait for the physical western release, Amazon Japan shipping and taxes are insanely high these days, and I don't want to pay the extra cost only to see it launched here a few months later, so I'll wait. I definitely want to have it in my collection.
That's the same offer from last year, and my group benefited from it, but I honestly preferred when they gave extra points to the account admin, that was 14 € for me. LOL
One of the games that escaped my grasp when I decided to buy a Game Cube after skipping that generation, but the game was already too expensive. Now I can get it off my chest.
In May 2024, Hamster announced ACA 2 Neo Geo[c] for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Main features of standard ACA 2 Neo Geo games include Time Attack and Network (online play) modes.
Arcade Archives has always had all the features from ACA Neo Geo, thus the upgraded version is expected to have them too. If not, I can't see why the difference in price between Switch and Switch 2 version, as if it wasn't enough to double the price of regular arcade releases, which I find reasonable but many people think should be cheaper because of their age.
Wait a minute: Switch 2 version, the Arcade Archives 2 version, the 16,99 € one, wasn't supposed to come with online multiplayer and other enhancements over the standard version? Why the couple extra euros / dollars / pounds then?
It smelled like Switch since its release on PC. Deserves a physical edition. Question is: do we count them as 50 games? I know I count compilatons as so many games as they include, but what about this? They are full games, right?
I can see a Super Mario 3D All Stars Switch 2 Edition with Galaxy 2
I can see a Mario Maker 2 Switch 2 Edition
And my anxiety because I'll want to sell these in order to buy the new editions. Worst of all, I haven't even booted them up. I can't say "at least I enjoyed them". If I had known it, I would've never bought them in the first place. But that's how backlog works, especially with companies that release the same games console generation after console generation. I'm looking at you too, Sony.
Anyway, they'll probably do the same they did with DK's 40th Anniversary: nothing.
@RupeeClock It's shocking that disobeying most of these warnings are the reason why we still can play some cartridges that refuse to work due to dirt or other problems.
@Ellie-Moo I hope not. I've narrowly been able to sell the first physical edition, luckily still unopened, in order to buy the steelbook expanded edition, on a sale on top of that, but I can't take any more swaps LOL
Anyway, did the physical editions sell well? They're often on sale, so one could think they didn't.
I just want them to release it and download it at this point. Great content, by the way. Not that the collection was lacking by no means, but Pac-man brand is an excellent addition. Activision some day, with Pitfall? Count me in.
Most of those announcements Game Key Cards. No, thanks.
I guess this time the shell space for this new console games will be much smaller for me. Which is fine, I have tons of backlog anyway and this way I can focus on enjoying first party games with no rush.
Switch 1 it is. In fact, it was already decided because the Switch 2 version is a Game Key Card. But they're certainly cheap with that move.
It'll probably hurt Switch 2 version sales, so they can say "see? We have to fully embrace digital from now on, physical doesn't sell", which is what many companies are looking for with these decisions.
This whole thing is confusing. If she is younger, and DK is too, what are Diddy and Dixie doing there? If it weren't for that, it could be that this game is a prequel to DKC series, so DK is the current DK "title" holder, Cranky is there (being whether his grandpa or his father, because lore before was confusing too)... no problem.
But if Pauline is younger, where does it leave adult Pauline? She can't be retconned because she's in Mario Kart World as an adult. Is all DK Bananza a prequel to Mario lore and it's revealed after credits or something? OK, but the original problem remains: Mario and Pauline, both adults, met the original Donkey Kong, being the actual father or grandather of current DK. Why do the gorillas age but humans don't?
My guess: this game is just a reboot of the DK lore, mantaining some elements and changing others. So boring as that.
@progx I know the reason why they do this, and certainly other platforms are starting to do the same, such as with Doom Dark Ages, which is not user-friendly, of course.
What I'm saying is that I guess people are buying Switch 1 versions now because they at least know they have the game inside the card, although the update has to be downloaded.
I think it's all about opinions, but we can still agree that code in a box and game key cards are not the same, but very very close.
It's surprising to see Switch versions over Switch 2 in some cases, but I guess they're Switch 2 adopters looking for the upgrades? Maybe trying to avoid Game Key Cards? Not in SF6's case, though. It has been a huge success, people clearly moved on and accepted this ugly new industry change.
But EA Sports FC 25 is selling that well with the season finished? That is surprising.
I recently played Link's Awakening and didn't notice any stutter, maybe it wasn't that much and all the fuss was for nothing, maybe my eye isn't trained enough, but anyway I had no complaints at all with the game.
I can't speak for Echoes, which I'm going to play soon for the first time, so it will be on Switch 2 anyway.
A time mark on the frame rate issues comparison would be great, though.
I guess there are some paid upgrades for a reason and in those cases they will be more noticeable. But calling it "night and day"... I don't know.
You know what I'm gonna say: this should be released physically since day one. They did it until the Tetris Forever, Llamasoft and Karateka collections... which ended up being released physically very late. I hope they didn't take the "let's release it very late in order to sell poorly after everyone owns it digitally so we can justify stop releasing physically at all" approach and was just a problem of another nature.
So anyway, we know this is going to be touchable at some point, let's hope it's the same day as the digital release.
And it will be a great opportunity for me to enter the Mortal Kombat universe from the start. I only have modern entries.
Since I won't be transfering all the data to the Switch 2 (I'm not going to sell Switch 1 for nostalgic reasons) due to the insufficient 256 GB internal storage and I'm not in a rush for getting the currently expensive Switch 2 memory cards, I decided to -if the transfer system allows it- keep the retro games and the screenshots inside the OG Switch.
But... will there ever be a way to easily share Switch 1 screenshots? I'm one of the few (?) people for which QR code way doesn't seem to work, and I have to connect to the specific server every single time, which is a drag.
After a moment of panicking and ranting, I saw that I can still get it on Switch 1. After all, there seems to be some unlockable content for those who beat DQ III, right? We want to play the trilogy on the same console.
But one day Dragon Quest XII will be released and I guess it will be on Switch 2, not 1, and I'm afraid they'll do the same crappy release. Then maybe will be time to switch (no pun intented) to PS5.
Great to see a new Arcade Archives review after forever.
Just let me be that guy for once: I still consider it arcade only, after all it's emulation.
Anyway, they do know what they are selling, but I hope this premium price thing doesn't become a trend. Mazinger Z had the licensing excuse, but the technical one... I don't know. Arcade Archives has enough haters for the reasonable 6.99 price, 14.99 certainly is not going to attract any new audience.
@sanderev Sorry to bother you again. Maybe I didn't explain myself correctly, but the thing is my "family" group is already full, I can't add any more members. I just checked it. I thought that you suggested some other way to link her profile to mine.
Thus, the remaining question is: how can I use my Switch 2 regularly and yet letting her use the Switch 1 where I don't plan to delete any game data? Can we do that? It may be useful to me too because I won't have the same storage space on Switch 2 and the Arcade Archives and other retro games may stay on the first console because they won't benefit from the extra horsepower.
Of course I know that we can't both be playing the same game at the same time, but is what I said possible? Basically having my profile on both consoles?
Does anybody know if these physical collections include the Hi-Score and Caravan modes? Taito Milestones releases don't.
Anyway, it's too late for many of us, having already purchased a high percentage of the collected games individually. If only we had known it before...
But it must be the longest wait between a digital and a physical release on Switch's history.
I hope this becomes available on Amazon like Jurassic Park Collection, in order to see it going on sale and coming home with no shipping costs whatsoever.
@sanderev Hm... I prefer for her using her own profile, but would avoid making the Switch 1 the primary system, because I'll be using Switch 2 regularly.
What I can't understand is how to add her to the family group with all the online benefits and stuff if she's not in the already full group. Please enlighten me, it would solve everything.
@sanderev So I wouldn't need to put her on my family group in order to let her play the games with her profile? As long as we don't play the same game at the same time. Thanks.
What about if I want to keep my Switch for my daughter to use it once I have the Switch 2? Can I keep my games downloaded on the first Switch but also download them on my Switch 2?
She's not in my family group because, well, who does really use this method of sharing online membership costs with actual members of the family?
Again, this game needs a physical purchasable release with a good AI and single player content. All this care can't disappear whenever Nintendo decides to close servers. They did it with Tetris 99, why not with this one?
I prefer when they release games that aren't already on multiple retro compilations or mini consoles, but the silver lining is Nintendo didn't forget about the Mega Drive NSO app.

If they seek to repeat the success of Switch 1, and expect to accomplish it, they should count on selling so many units and game copies that this rise shouldn't be necessary to make a profit.
I wish it comes to the West, this will be my last chance to get the first entry, as its price never went down, on the contrary, because stock strangely disappeared. Fingers crossed.
Predicitions of it being less than that were more harmful than anything, there is people that believe these things and these people will complain at what will be an otherwise reasonable price.
