Well, as mentioned the Saturn version isn't present, and there were slight differences. I don't know why it hasn't been included, but it makes it a less comprehensive collection.
Still buying it, the main attraction for me being the MS-DOS version with all the additional levels. I already have original copies of the PS1, GBC, GBA and Saturn versions.
I purchased it digitally on Xbox One long ago, but my backlog got so big that I didn't really play it. Now it's time, it was actually about time that this not only came to Nintendo, but got a physical edition in the first place, which took really long and was unlike Digital Eclipse.
Anyway, I wonder what the Switch 2 edition has that Switch 1 hasn't. The extra money hurts.
I thought that it was a game key card because it couldn't fit in a 64GB cartridge. It's 27 GB. Would've sold so much that they could have done it properly. No excuses.
Again, would have bought it right away if it had come with built-in games as an offline product. It takes some space that I don't have and don't want it to achieve ornamental status. Yet the service will end eventually and it will regardless of my intentions. They still could release a pack with all the games, hopefully physical, down the line, after all they did it with Tetris 99 (sadly not with F-Zero 99), so never say never, but I suspect they won't.
Oh... I was hoping this time would be different, but I learned my lesson with Aces, where it was also 5 hour content for solo players... so they yet again show no interest in satisfying the campaign-focused player. I think I'm gonna pass unless some day it appears heavily discounted.
I've said it again and again, but it should have been a retail product not tied to a subscription based line-up. People would've forked the 80 € for this with built-in games. I certainly would have. For an item that some day will be useless because the service will be discontinued... not so sure.
I would hate to buy the Japanese edition only to see it localized later, I still wake up sweating in the middle of the night after the Kunio-kun The World Classics Collection case, but due to some games being text-heavy (I think, but don't know how many of them are), I don't believe we're going to see it here... yet the Kunio-kun games ended up being localized and there were many, so never say never.
Fun fact: they're games coming from Famicom, Super Famicom, Game Boy and Game Boy Color, which makes sense emulation-wise, but... they skipped one GBC game. Weird.
I had the chance to try the real thing years ago and loved it. I'm definitely attracted, but I wish they had released it as a purchase not tied to the NSO, with all the games built-in, a sort of Virtual Boy mini. I don't like the idea of paying 80€ plus shipping for a device that will only serve its purpose as long as I'm subscribed / the NSO exists.
I played it on 3DS, it took me 125 hours to beat it -that 70-ish must be for gamers better than me, and it always takes me longer to finish games than what How Long to Beat says-, yet I didn't have any problem with that. I never felt it was a slog.
I certainly won't be able to tell what chapters are missing, but I don't like that they cut things out.
I would put "game key card" in the cons list. Anyway, it would be great to read about how Switch 1 version fares against Switch 2. Many of us would like to have it on a proper cartridge.
It's been 9 years since the original release, strangely (for the time, because now you can expect this sadly) digital only, and strangely never made it to the Wii U or the Switch.
It arrives sooo late, but the two additions will make me buy it again. Too bad the Mega Drive version of Bonkers (or Talespin) isn't included. Development companies were different, so...
I'm genuinely interested, I really am, but I'm not going to buy an expensive device linked to a subscription digital service that one day will stop being available. I would have bought it with all these games built-in.
If I don't have to start from scratch after 100%ing it, I might be in... Provided that I can sell my Switch version, as I have no doubt that they will release a proper physical release of this version too.
I'm not interested in multiplayer content either, but doesn't the article say that there are new collectables?
I think it's understandable: it has sold well, but it does lack a really appealing line-up in the foreseeable future. I mean I want Mario Tennis Fever (crossing fingers for more engaging content than Aces) and Yoshi, but we will be needing a killer new Mario sooner than later.
I admit that I don't regret buying it for Mario Kart World and DK Bananza, but third-party with most games being game key cards has been a huge disappointment, and as I could see it being the trend and not an exception, I knew my shelves wouldn't receive many Switch 2 games and non-Nintendo ones would be mostly PS5 versions for this reason.
I can imagine people not needing to jump from Switch 1 because of the intergenerational releases, and then seeing what is happening with GKC, so I don't blame them for not spending that amount of money for just a couple of must haves yet.
I don't think 7 quid is an issue, games don't have to be cheaper because they're old, and honestly people that want them almost for free and scoffs at legendary titles doesn't really want to pay for games at all and probably doesn't, they're probably the kind that says "I don't need it, I have an Anbernic".
But I also think that Hamster shouldn't charge 15 for any release, Namco System 22 or whatever, and they should do regular sales across their titles, not only once in months and from a very reduced group of games. After all these years, though, if they didn't change their policy that means that it works for them.
I have the original Skyrim Switch physical version. If I understood it correctly, if I want the Switch 2 Anniversary version I just have to cash 9,99 out?
Can it be done in foreign stores too or it has to be done in-game?
Inin's explanation doesn't make much sense. Switching wouldn't be necessary if they had released the game on a proper cartridge to begin with.
As for the size of the carts, big publishers are the ones who don't want to spend a cent on actual carts, not indie ones. But yes, not making several sizes available from start was a bad call.
I hope the rumour is true, but it's too late for some major releases.
They should have warned about this sooner, that was an ugly move.
But I think I'll get it on Switch or Switch 2 (I need to know if games run better on Switch 2 or something, but not paying extra for support reasons only) anyway, because I don't want to play Game Gear games on a big screen on PS5.
Besides, Digital Eclipse has said if more games' emulation get sorted out there will be DLC anyway, so it's not that the collection would have always been 100% in a cart / disc.
For now I'll wait. Two things are probable and can happen together, given Digital Eclipse history after seeing what they did with Atari 50: huge price drops and better editions down the line. In the meantime, they have bugs to fix anyway.
Great news, and I see that it's a shadow drop. That's why I didn't even know it was coming LOL
Anyway, it's a good opportunity to try it, because the original's price skyrocketed despite the mixed reception it got back in the day. It's funny that people remembers it now with more love.
I don't quite get this part "With an enormous effort, everything has been rebuilt so that Players can switch seamlessly between the original and the new R-Type III at any time, offering both nostalgic authenticity and a striking modern reinterpretation."
Isn't this what they already did with Dimensions? This time around they do it again with R-Type III, don't they?
It's not a new game, it's a recreation (let's hope a faithful one) of the third entry with switchable graphics.
Anyway, good news.
Not so the fact that the physical versions come from SLG. I'm sick of them too @Teksette, they said they were going to reduce production times but they seem to have prioritized acquiring more and more licenses, so the waiting time has extended even more. No coupon or surprise free purchase giveaway (which I won with Steel Empire Chronicles back in 2024, still waiting for them to produce it) can make up for it.
@Olliemar28 As someone who has been holding for a while before the purchase of Metroid Prime 2 on GameCube -I own the third entry on Wii- just in case 2 and 3 got the remaster treatment, do I need to worry plotwise about playing 4 before 2 and 3? Thanks
So I'll have to buy it, but it would be great if they shared their plans with next kiwamizations, because I want to know if I have to get rid of Yakuza Remastered Collection before I start with those entries.
"the sound when booting up the Game Boy - Nintendo Classics app has also been changed from the Game Boy boot up noise to a coin block sound from Super Mario Land."
They should have used a more elegant art, but the device looks interesting. I was thinking recently that I'd love to put my Switch or Switch 2 inside a bartop-like thing in order to play the dozens of arcade titles in my collection, and the wooden cabinet that came with Toki Collector's Edition is meant to be used -if at all- with the joy-cons detached. The cabinet experience must be enjoyed with built-in controls.
Maybe if this gets rereleased in other art variants I might get it on a sale.
This will eventually be released physically, no doubt about it. I'll hold. In the meantime it can be on a sale anyway. But disappointed that it doesn't match PS4 and Xbox One versions on Switch 2.
@Burning_Spear I mean I had the first edition and luckily hadn't unsealed it because of backlog, then sold it, bought the steelbook one with everything, and something inside me said "don't unseal it unless you're going to use it immediately", and then they announced the DLC months ago. Now, as William Wallace once yelled, "hold!"
@Krambo42 What I meant is that I already have what was the definitive edition, and now it's not. If they release another physical and more complete edition I would like to know in order to get rid of the current one. If not, I'll just buy the DLC in the first price drop.
I've seen reports that the Atari 2600 version of Pac-Man has different colors for every one of the ghosts, which wouldn't be accurate. Any info about that?
Anyway, I most definitely want this DLC, but I wake up in the middle of the night covered in sweat because I fear that there will be yet another Atari 50 retail edition with everything in it. And it would be nice to know if they're planning to do it. I don't want to double dip.
"Once again, the physical version will include the "full base game" on a 64GB cartridge."
What? It should be "exceptionally". And with 16GB storage requirement... That's surprising. That's the reason publishers give for releasing game key cards: not taking advantage of the full 64GB cards.
It's nice that it keeps track of individual sessions, but the overall time spent in games is 1 hours or more and 5 onwards, like the Switch 1 did before the Switch 2 came. Heck, even the Parental Control app keeps track in more detail than this.
Besides, doesn't show my playtime in 3DS and Wii U even though I linked the old Nintendo Network ID to the current Nintendo account.
@FrowardCoast440 This I know. But as a buyer I want to know if that extra money is going to give me something that I don't have with the Switch 1 version.
@FrowardCoast440 I was talking about physical, of course. Well, I'm glad it's not a GKC, but 10 extra bucks have to be for something, and in this case it can't be better performance. That's why I was asking.
Now we need to know the difference between Switch 1 and 2 versions. There is a price difference, but performance-wise is it justified? I mean... These are titles that OG Switch can handle.
By the way, they explained in an interview the absence of N64 and Dreamcast games: they simply can't emulate those consoles... Yet.
Gonna get it for Switch as a real physical release, but depending on the performance reports (I suspect they are going to make the Switch 2 version way better in order to lure is into the GKC s*it), I may jump to PS5 versions of III and I-II. I haven't bought III yet because I have never seen it on sale, which is weird for a non-Nintendo game.
It's a good thing that I-II has new story content, the fact that they come together shows how short they were (they really were), but I guess they needed a little bit more to justify full price.
@Tom-Massey I agree, it's a little cumbersome, and I can't help thinking that the developers made the game with the twin stick controls in mind, but I went for traditional after realizing that my scores (and my survival chances) were higher this way. Made me feel a little like the small dog of the meme, but had a lot of fun.
I have to admit that didn't even try the custom controls.

Plus, Switch 1 version on a Switch 2. I mean... It has to be slightly better than on original Switch, right? Even if it's not 60 fps.
I've heard people say DQIII on Switch was "unplayable", which has to be an exaggeration, but I guess the game on Switch 2 must perform better.
Re: The First Review For Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Is In
Gonna get it for Switch as a real physical release, but depending on the performance reports (I suspect they are going to make the Switch 2 version way better in order to lure is into the GKC s*it), I may jump to PS5 versions of III and I-II. I haven't bought III yet because I have never seen it on sale, which is weird for a non-Nintendo game.
It's a good thing that I-II has new story content, the fact that they come together shows how short they were (they really were), but I guess they needed a little bit more to justify full price.

I have to admit that didn't even try the custom controls.
