considering the switch already offers something the other consoles dont and that the closest alternatives are more like portable PCs im really hoping the next system is an iteration on the switch design continuing with the whole 'play how you want' idea rather than some mandatory new control scheme.
with the wii for example if you disliked the controller then it could feel like a barrier of entry to enjoying the games, in some cases more than others, for example remember that article a while back when someone literally couldnt play mario galaxy due to the mandatory motion controls and had to create some elaborate workaround since the game offered no alternate control schemes.
so yeah, for me im hoping to keep the emphasis on player choice when it comes to "switch 2" offering player control over how they play while still keeping the simplicity of a console.
i feel like the switch as a concept is pretty much perfect but would like to see some improvements on a mechanical and technical level such as sturdier controllers, analogue triggers and a boost to specs allowing for more games to be viable to port without having to sacrifice as much to get them working.
basically a DS>3DS situation rather than a wii>wiiu, the switch but improved (and with backwards compatibility)
@johnedwin Falcom's games are some of the games im most curious about when it comes to the "switch 2" since i imagine they will be supporting the system from the get-go and am also curious to see if any of them already on switch 1 end up getting native "switch 2" ports (not completely off the table considering cold steel 3 and 4 are getting native ps5 releases)
while not a "personality" trait a lot of my gaming habits and other such things are shaped by being on the autism spectrum.
one such thing is often replaying certain "comfort" games multiple times often returning to them between playing newer games, its why im a fan of things like retro collections, the virtual console and whatnot and why i hate the NSO's inability to buy and keep games so much.
it also makes it harder to enjoy PC gaming due to all the variables and options when it comes to visuals and the like (i love having options but PC gaming feels a bit much for me)
its also why i tend to prefer things like framerate over visual detail since it makes it easier to focus on the game world, am generally fine with 30fps but when things drop below that i tend to find it harder to get a focus on the (in game) space around me which can make it harder to play.
these aren't specific "autism" traits for the most part but it does feel like they are amplified by it.
@johnedwin on one flipside it does feel like the switch 2 will be great for third party AA games or other middle to lower budget games since those are often the kinds of games which run into performance issues on switch 1 due to devs likely not having as much time/budget/experience for heavy optimisation (games like much of falcoms library, Ys IX, Trails to reverie etc)
Feels like those kinds of games run into more issues than the larger budget ambitious "impossible ports" that you get.
So this is the game and DLC included on the cartridge? article makes it seem like it is but was thrown off whether the "downloadable content" on the box means that you have to download the content itself.
TBH im cool with the idea of physical re-releases of games with things like updates and/or DLC and makes me wish things like Kirby star allies or other games which got extra content via updates would get physical re-releases containing them in order to help "future-proof" them.
really my main hope is that the clampdown on piracy doesn't end up resulting in more practices that screw over legit consumers more than they do pirates which if anything would only serve to incentivise piracy.
an example in the past was those annoying unkippable anti-piracy messages and ads which would be on DVDs a lot.
a more modern example would be things like intrusive DRM and mandatory online checks or other such BS
honestly for me i end up finding more games from my past that i end up enjoying more when replaying than i do find games that i enjoy less.
though there are also a bunch of my fave games from the 16bit and psone/ps2 eras which i only played years later, in snes case it was because i had a mega drive/genesis growing up and in psone case a lot of classic rpgs never made it to europe.
this is a reason why i valued things like the virtual console (RIP) and psone classics services so much alongside retro collections/remasters since i love the idea of being able to buy old games, since these games are new to someone.
@DjinnFighter yeah i agree that its good to keep in mind a lot of the limitations of the time and that certain common aspects (such as camera control) hadnt been perfected yet but when putting myself in that mindset ive been able to enjoy a lot of older games for the first time years later due to reasons mentioned prior.
Most of the games this year ive been super into the most this year are outside of switch, things like FFVII rebirth or dawntrail though i did enjoy the TTYD remake.
most of the switch games im most looking forward to this year on switch are during the latter half with things like DQIII HD-2D and the full on remake of Romancing SaGa 2
While i haven't tried the demo yet i do hear that the switch versions performance is quite a bit better than cold steel 3/4, Ys IX and Reverie, its also reassuring to see performance issues not brought up in the review wheres in the other games mentioned they were brought up as major negative points.
though considering falcom seems to be developing in-house for the switch and the game uses their own engine (as opposed to cold steel 3 and 4) it makes more sense.
imagine they will be supporting switch 2 from the get-go which is nice since as much as this phrase would get thrown around a lot i feel their games are "perfect for switch" (i remember a large amount of my time on psp and vita was on falcom games)
@GameOtaku yeah its the online checks which turn me off it, if it had something like what the psone games do on ps+ and let you purchase them seperately but give subscribers full access then it would be the best of both worlds, as @Serpenterror mentioned there are those who like to return to their favourite games, and while in the future once switch support stops there will still be modders to the rescue i do like the idea of officially purchasable legacy content.
@JakedaArbok Does make me curious what games did end up being removed from the eshop, temporary or otherwise, for things other than age rating mistakes and the like.
i do remember this one game which apparently had music from zelda in it which i think returned to the eshop minus said stolen music, there was also the infamous "the last hope".
on the subject of stolen zelda music there was an apparently official shrek game on the Vtech vsmile (an edutainment focused device) which had music from ocarina of time on it (i also recognised the SaGa frontier battle theme in one segment)
This is one of the reasons why i love it when games are designed to be played with a controller of your choice, aside from the obvious comfort and/or accessibility benefits it also allows players to come up with many creative ways to play games. (someone managed to beat dark souls using bananas, that would certainly be an apt controll method for monkey ball)
@JohnnyMind @Not_Soos i remember enjoying the second Gex though replaying it the camera is definitely of its time and can have a mind of its own, the third one did feel like it improved on that aspect.
on the subject of 90s platformers i wonder if the croc games are in any kind of licencing nightmare, replayed them relatively not that long ago and aside from the expected psone jank i did still enjoy them.
@mikegamer does it have a similar issue to what F zero X had on various things such as VC and iirc NSO (im not sure if it was patched on NSO or not) where things feel super sensitive.
@somnambulance Does feel odd that theres no ability to remap the buttons in the actual game using the app since it was something you could do with the virtual console games on wiiu,
i think i did hear you can save presets on switch which is nice if thats the case but the virtual console method was cool in that you could tailor the controls to each game, it helped me with something like DK64 on wiiu which has a bunch of button combinations involving the C-buttons which felt akward performing with a stick.
@Znake
yep its one of the things i really dislike about how its handled with NSO, there a lot of games i would happily pay for if they were available to buy and keep and other similar services like the PSone/ps2 etc games on PS+ are also available to purchase without it (iirc same thing with gamepass on xbox)
a saving grace at least is that they arent cloud games and actually running natively off the system but that can also make it more frustrating that they are not available for purchase when as mentioned in a prior message the cloud games which are completely online and not running on your system are available to buy..
I love the idea of legacy content being made easily available to play on modern systems without needing to mod the system and i know there are many people where the service works out better for what they want which is why i wouldnt want the service to dissapear, just that i wish it wasnt the only way to play the games on the system.
in general its why i really love what companies like M2 and Nightdive are doing.
@Not_Soos yeah while a pipe dream i would also love to see some of those classics make their way, also the older ratchet and clank games and ape escape.
for me a personal fave IP which iirc sony owns is the wild arms series, would have loved to have seen those on switch.
Am really happy about this, the diorama backdrops feel like an evolution of the PSone era pre-rendered visuals and the game itself looks interesting and from the footage looks like it runs well too.
@burninmylight As well as the ones you listed i feel one of the biggest advantages rare replay would have would be being able to keep the games.
mentioned it in a few other places but would be more than happy with just having the option to buy/keep NSO games, im cool with using the service to play online and could understand having it for something like cloud releases but feel like offline games being emulated natively on the system should have an option to purchase them so no internet connection is needed to play. (oddly the cloud games which actually require an internet connection are available to purchase)
Game looks really nice and reminds me quite a bit of the Trials of mana remake, i remember that running really well on switch so this hopefully will too (looks to be the case if the trailer is running on switch)
@duerer would be cool to see a Xenoblade X remaster (and potential sequel) on switch 2 taking advantage of the beefier specs to make an already amazing looking world even more amazing.
Does feel nice to hear that going by the preview they are previewing the switch version since it always makes me sceptical when the switch version is largely absent from previews even with Nintendo publications.
(iirc happened with SMTvengence, Hundred heroes and the new Trails game along with sonicxshadow generations)
@MJF for me i would be cool with seeing the DS remakes getting a remaster and localization which while still somewhat of a pipe dream doesnt feel completely off the table given how many previously japan-only games made got localized for the first time within the past few years.
I would be cool with having the sub to play a bunch of games but sometimes there's those special games that you just want to keep.
with virtual console i ended up picking up quite a few games and while its nice i can still play them on wiiu and wii the switch being a "hybrid" makes it ideal for me.
was hoping that with the account system that virtual console libraries will travel over, and while the NSO library will likely make its way to switch 2 theres never a guarantee since quite a few games from the wii VC never made it to the wiiu one and with how volatile licencing can be when it comes to digital media if a game get delisted on a service then access is gone for good regardless of whether the app is stored on your system, which while isnt as much an issue for first party games it can be very much so with third parties.
@tomwinsagain yeah it feels like there's a lot of features that have become more standard when it comes to official emulation like screen options and game side control remapping which the NSO service lacks at this point.
Personally my main issue is not having an option to buy/keep the games like with gamepass or the retro games on PS+ but i don't really see that aspect being changed sadly.
@epicgamner
for me its mainly the shadow segment that im curious about though looking at previous sonic games on switch i was happy with sonic forces ran and iirc the cyberspace segments on frontiers were okay (haven't played it on switch in a while though)
i hear that the hub world of the shadow segment was based on the "open zone" format of frontiers though looking at the screens it seems abstract in design than the more foliage filled areas that made up a decent amount of frontiers open areas so hopefully it will hold up better.
as mentioned in the SMTV vengance article i do wish these demonstrations would include the switch version since while i do get that devs and publishers want to show off the game in the best light the switch version is still something that they are selling and more often than not its not the best sign when even a switch focused site is previewing the ps5 version.
am definitely most curious to see how the shadow segments run on switch since there's a lot of visual spectacle to those going by the footage with a lot going on with the environments.
@JohnnyMind yeah as mentioned regarding the switch 2 im hoping that BC will be similar to playing 3ds games on a "new 3ds" in which certain games with performance issues ran a lot smoother.
would be cool to see some games get an upgrade patch similar to what happened with some 360 games on xbox one (sonic unleashed being a big example, the performance patch it got was a massive improvement when you gotta go fast)
as for choice i agree that its definitely nice when feasible and really just hope that each option is stable.
on the subject of "options" though one thing i do hope is standard is control options on a game-by-game level. let players choose HOW they control a game, at the very least its a comfort option, at the very most its a big part of accessibility.
@JohnnyMind hoping that its the reason higher resolutions etc which found to be supported in some games, future proofing for "switch 2" (though i imagine even for games without support for higher resolutions and whatnot it will still iron out performance issues kind of like playing 3ds games on new 3ds)
on the subject of marvellous im curious whether something like arc rise fantasia is stuck in some kind of licencing hell or something since i would love to see it come to switch.
The voice acting was infamous but i remember the game itself being a lot of fun.
@EarthboundBenjy Yeah as you mentioned it would be cool to see this kind of tech be used by publishers to bring their classics to modern systems, and castlevania 64 would also be something i would love to see (next to the goemon games) especially with improvements such as widescreen and higher framerate.
considering all the innovations weve been getting with the likes of emulation and remastering it will be interesting to see the kinds of things companies like nightdive or M2 will end up doing in the future (the former being behind many great remasters like the quake 2 one, the latter was iirc behind the excelent "sega ages" line on switch and have done some good retro collections including several konami ones)
@Tott It kind of reminds me of the bosses in something like sonic 3&K where there are quite a few ways to make quick work of the bosses a big one being sonics double jump "insta-shield" which when timed right can hit bosses when otherwise they would damage you.
by comparison something like sonic 4 episode 2 was infamous for having several bosses where it felt like you were spending waiting for the next chance to hit it.
in general i like it when the player has more control over the pacing of the fight since it also means that when replaying a game you can get more efficient at dealing with things like bosses and stages and as you mentioned a game can combine multiple aspects into its design.
I have a similar feeling when it comes to levels in general, i prefer it when the player sets the pace, where the first time through the player may be playing it safe and taking their time where's on replay they may be more willing to take more risks and speed through segments which initially would take them a while, its why im REALLY not a fan of auto scrollers in most platformers.
@bring_on_branstons
i would love a third game in that series (also bringing back david wise again)
would be nice to see the kremlings and K.Rool show up for the third game and see what retro,s take on them would be (such as what new persona k.rool could take on)
(for me i would love to see a game where they are chasing k.rool through space and each "world" is a different planet allowing them to go nuts with the world theming and also have an excuse for space pirates)*
While i generally preffer smoother/higher framerate over improved visuals it is still nice to hear that it is a locked framerate and the game definitely does look beautiful.
With motion controls its odd in that i generally disliked them for a good while and still do in a lot of games but absolutely loved them in things like the nightdive quake ports to the point where i love them for these kinds of shooters and its a pity this one doesn't have them.
I imagine its the difference between having them as an option in a game and choosing them for their convenience vs games where they are a mandatory part of the control scheme so you are forced to use them even when you would prefer not to.
wonder if its something that would end up added via patch.
@GrailUK for me im fine with digital subscription models existing as long as the games can be purchased independent of said subscription model, iirc its the case with gamepass and most of ps+ but its frustrating that NSOs legacy content cannot be purchased at all (ironically you can "buy" cloud games but not the games being emulated natively)
similar when it comes to live service stuff im cool with things like MMOs or other multiplayer focused games but it does feel like there are games where they would make much more sense as a solo experience.
am happy to hear that physical media will be supported going forward since from what i gather xbox has been moving away from it, with PlayStation it doesn't seem to be doing quite as bad in that regard (FFVII rebirth used the fact that it was on 2 discs as a marketing point iirc)
Really the more choices in how to access games the better imo, again i feel like service stuff can be good to try out a bunch of games but once it becomes the only way to play certain games that's when im out.
Really im hoping that the next system is fully backwards compatible and that carrying over your library and whatnot is as easy as possible.
would be fine with "cross-gen" releases early in the systems life similar to what happened with other systems alongside the ability for people to "upgrade" to the "next-gen" version for games which are also on switch-2 without needing to rebuy (again similar to what certain games on other systems did)
@ArcadianLegend99 Would love to see that game get a "definitive" release, combining the Gamecubes additions and lower encounter rate with the dreamcast versions audio quality (iirc the music on the gamecube sounded lower quality, maybe to save disc space or something, but it was unfortunate considering the game had a fantastic OST)
@Diogmites oh yeah i definitely recommend giving scarlet grace a go, the combat is considered some of the best in the series.
i would say the one oddity of the series would be FFlegend 3, ironically the game is "odd" because its the most "normal" one of them, playing closer to one of the nes FF games than a SaGa game, not saying its a bad game, i loved my time with it. (it did get a remake on DS which made it more like a traditional SaGa game but that was sadly unlocalized)
but yeah, the series has a good amount of variety to it.
@Diogmites Both of them offer a unique experience which is nice so if you dont get on with one of them you may enjoy the other.
Scarlet grace for example has a heavy emphasis on the combat side with exploration largely being on an overworld map where's RS3 has your more traditional RPG dungeons and towns to walk around in.
for me my most played game on switch is SaGa frontier, it kind of feels more of a successor to the gameboy ones than the romancing SaGa games with its wacky setting and different character races.
i am hoping SaGa frontier 2 gets a remaster, it was extremely different from the first frontier and very linear but i loved the locations in it and the art style and music gave it a very cozy vibe (iirc the series producer has heavily hinted that its coming)
@Bomberman64
Nowadays it does feel like almost anything could happen given all the games weve seen localized for the first time in the past few years, such as the third mana game not only getting a remake but the original being localized in the collection, romancing SaGa 2 and 3, scarlet grace coming west, live a live remake, even outside of square-enix we have things like the Marl kingdom collection, trails from zero/azure and other such localizations.
not getting my hopes up but not ruling anything out completely, it would be a nice surprise at the very least.
@Nanoline52
That is one of those games i wish did make it west, would love to see it get a remaster of some kind (feels unlikely but then a good few years ago i would have said the same thing about a bunch of rpgs including several SaGa games)
iirc wasnt there a similar remake for FFL3 which ended up reworking it into more of a SaGa game wheres the original felt closer to one of the NES FF games.
@Daniel36
I guess that would explain the "collection of SaGa" being lower than FFL2 and 3.
unless there was some change to the games in the collection, though from what i gather despite the message at the start of the game, in the western release the changes were mainly some mistranslated words (such as the infamous L and R confusion with some japanese translations) and there wasn't really any script changes, the bananas are still illegal.
I am hoping that the new ones would have analogue triggers but still hoping for the option to use controllers compatible with the original system for either games which dont make use of the triggers or backwards compatible games.
really the more choices in how you play the better.
@Itachi2099 feels like often when it happens it doesn't bode the best like with hundred heroes.
i do get that publishers would want to show off the game in the best state they can but the switch is still a version of the game they are selling and more often than not im most curious with that one to see how it holds up compared to the others.
@Qwiff does make me curious if some original switch games will get patches similar to what some 360 games got for when played on xbox one/series X etc (sonic unleashed being the one i mainly know of, i dont have a modern Xbox but hear its a big improvement)
i imagine games which had performance issues may run better similar to how they did on new3ds (iirc hyrule warriors on 3ds was one of them) though will be interesting to see if any games get "upgrade" patches similar to the xbox example.
@SBandy1
honestly i feel like this articles comment section has fared better than the other one, it does feel like there's a lot more discussion regarding it including going into the technical aspects and less examples of people just dismissing criticism as people being "haters" "spoiled", "pretentious" etc. (though i didnt see what the deleted comments were)
@JohnnyMind
yeah those aspects are what i was curious about.
While i would have loved to have a "performance" mode i am happy that from the sounds of it the 30fps is stable and being a remake hopefully the timing will be made to work around the framerate.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Gets Four New Additions Today, Including Zelda, Metroid, And Perfect Dark
@burninmylight
As well as the ones you listed i feel one of the biggest advantages rare replay would have would be being able to keep the games.
mentioned it in a few other places but would be more than happy with just having the option to buy/keep NSO games, im cool with using the service to play online and could understand having it for something like cloud releases but feel like offline games being emulated natively on the system should have an option to purchase them so no internet connection is needed to play. (oddly the cloud games which actually require an internet connection are available to purchase)
Re: Romancing SaGa 2 Is Getting A Full-Blown 3D Remake, And It Looks Gorgeous
Game looks really nice and reminds me quite a bit of the Trials of mana remake, i remember that running really well on switch so this hopefully will too (looks to be the case if the trailer is running on switch)
@duerer
would be cool to see a Xenoblade X remaster (and potential sequel) on switch 2 taking advantage of the beefier specs to make an already amazing looking world even more amazing.
Re: Hands On: Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Is Much More Than A Pretty Picture
Does feel nice to hear that going by the preview they are previewing the switch version since it always makes me sceptical when the switch version is largely absent from previews even with Nintendo publications.
(iirc happened with SMTvengence, Hundred heroes and the new Trails game along with sonicxshadow generations)
Re: Square Enix's SaGa Emerald Beyond Receives A New Update For Switch
@MJF
for me i would be cool with seeing the DS remakes getting a remaster and localization which while still somewhat of a pipe dream doesnt feel completely off the table given how many previously japan-only games made got localized for the first time within the past few years.
Re: Mailbox: Switch's Pokémon Woes, NSO's Value, First-Person Plurals - Nintendo Life Letters
@Don
Yeah this is how i strongly feel.
Re: Nintendo Is Seeking More Talent To Help Run Its Switch Online Service
@tomwinsagain
yeah it feels like there's a lot of features that have become more standard when it comes to official emulation like screen options and game side control remapping which the NSO service lacks at this point.
Personally my main issue is not having an option to buy/keep the games like with gamepass or the retro games on PS+ but i don't really see that aspect being changed sadly.
Re: Hands On: Sonic X Shadow Generations Is A Love Letter To Sonic Adventure 2
@epicgamner
for me its mainly the shadow segment that im curious about though looking at previous sonic games on switch i was happy with sonic forces ran and iirc the cyberspace segments on frontiers were okay (haven't played it on switch in a while though)
i hear that the hub world of the shadow segment was based on the "open zone" format of frontiers though looking at the screens it seems abstract in design than the more foliage filled areas that made up a decent amount of frontiers open areas so hopefully it will hold up better.
Re: Hands On: Sonic X Shadow Generations Is A Love Letter To Sonic Adventure 2
as mentioned in the SMTV vengance article i do wish these demonstrations would include the switch version since while i do get that devs and publishers want to show off the game in the best light the switch version is still something that they are selling and more often than not its not the best sign when even a switch focused site is previewing the ps5 version.
am definitely most curious to see how the shadow segments run on switch since there's a lot of visual spectacle to those going by the footage with a lot going on with the environments.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Want Quality And Performance Options For Nintendo's 'Switch 2' Games?
@JohnnyMind
yeah as mentioned regarding the switch 2 im hoping that BC will be similar to playing 3ds games on a "new 3ds" in which certain games with performance issues ran a lot smoother.
would be cool to see some games get an upgrade patch similar to what happened with some 360 games on xbox one (sonic unleashed being a big example, the performance patch it got was a massive improvement when you gotta go fast)
as for choice i agree that its definitely nice when feasible and really just hope that each option is stable.
on the subject of "options" though one thing i do hope is standard is control options on a game-by-game level. let players choose HOW they control a game, at the very least its a comfort option, at the very most its a big part of accessibility.
Re: Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Switch Update Adding Performance Mode
@JohnnyMind
hoping that its the reason higher resolutions etc which found to be supported in some games, future proofing for "switch 2"
(though i imagine even for games without support for higher resolutions and whatnot it will still iron out performance issues kind of like playing 3ds games on new 3ds)
Re: Marvelous Game Showcase 2024 Airing Later This Week
on the subject of marvellous im curious whether something like arc rise fantasia is stuck in some kind of licencing hell or something since i would love to see it come to switch.
The voice acting was infamous but i remember the game itself being a lot of fun.
Re: Zelda 64 Recompiled: Majora's Mask Gets An Exciting New Update (Version 1.1.0)
@EarthboundBenjy
Yeah as you mentioned it would be cool to see this kind of tech be used by publishers to bring their classics to modern systems, and castlevania 64 would also be something i would love to see (next to the goemon games) especially with improvements such as widescreen and higher framerate.
considering all the innovations weve been getting with the likes of emulation and remastering it will be interesting to see the kinds of things companies like nightdive or M2 will end up doing in the future (the former being behind many great remasters like the quake 2 one, the latter was iirc behind the excelent "sega ages" line on switch and have done some good retro collections including several konami ones)
Re: Random: Sakurai Likens Boss Battles In Nintendo Games To Tutorials
@Tott
It kind of reminds me of the bosses in something like sonic 3&K where there are quite a few ways to make quick work of the bosses a big one being sonics double jump "insta-shield" which when timed right can hit bosses when otherwise they would damage you.
by comparison something like sonic 4 episode 2 was infamous for having several bosses where it felt like you were spending waiting for the next chance to hit it.
in general i like it when the player has more control over the pacing of the fight since it also means that when replaying a game you can get more efficient at dealing with things like bosses and stages and as you mentioned a game can combine multiple aspects into its design.
Re: Poll: A New Donkey Kong Game Must Be Coming, But What Should It Be?
@bring_on_branstons
i would love a third game in that series (also bringing back david wise again)
would be nice to see the kremlings and K.Rool show up for the third game and see what retro,s take on them would be (such as what new persona k.rool could take on)
(for me i would love to see a game where they are chasing k.rool through space and each "world" is a different planet allowing them to go nuts with the world theming and also have an excuse for space pirates)*
*this part is just a mindless fan ramble from me.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door On Switch
While i generally preffer smoother/higher framerate over improved visuals it is still nice to hear that it is a locked framerate and the game definitely does look beautiful.
Re: Review: Slayers X (Switch) - A Fun But Basic Boomer Shooter That Lacks An X Factor
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Demon's Crest (SNES)
@JohnnyMind
yeah while i do like the other one the japan box art gives me some awesome 80s metal album cover vibes.
Re: Nintendo Will Continue To Support Physical Media And "Maximise" All Software Sales
@GrailUK
for me im fine with digital subscription models existing as long as the games can be purchased independent of said subscription model, iirc its the case with gamepass and most of ps+ but its frustrating that NSOs legacy content cannot be purchased at all (ironically you can "buy" cloud games but not the games being emulated natively)
similar when it comes to live service stuff im cool with things like MMOs or other multiplayer focused games but it does feel like there are games where they would make much more sense as a solo experience.
am happy to hear that physical media will be supported going forward since from what i gather xbox has been moving away from it, with PlayStation it doesn't seem to be doing quite as bad in that regard (FFVII rebirth used the fact that it was on 2 discs as a marketing point iirc)
Really the more choices in how to access games the better imo, again i feel like service stuff can be good to try out a bunch of games but once it becomes the only way to play certain games that's when im out.
Re: Nintendo Acknowledges That Successor Announcement May "Impact" Switch Sales
Really im hoping that the next system is fully backwards compatible and that carrying over your library and whatnot is as easy as possible.
would be fine with "cross-gen" releases early in the systems life similar to what happened with other systems alongside the ability for people to "upgrade" to the "next-gen" version for games which are also on switch-2 without needing to rebuy (again similar to what certain games on other systems did)
Re: Nintendo Switch "Successor" Announcement Is Coming "This Fiscal Year"
@Chaoticwhizz
i think its next march.
Re: Rumour: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom First Anniversary Surprise Planned
@Pillowpants
, yeah especially considering how more studios are releasing their music in various formats and also worldwide.
square-enix for example have a bunch of their ost's both new and old on various platforms whether it be streaming or purchasable.
Re: Nintendo Direct June 2024 Confirmed To Boost An Otherwise Quiet Year For Switch
@ArcadianLegend99
Would love to see that game get a "definitive" release, combining the Gamecubes additions and lower encounter rate with the dreamcast versions audio quality (iirc the music on the gamecube sounded lower quality, maybe to save disc space or something, but it was unfortunate considering the game had a fantastic OST)
Re: Best SaGa Games Of All Time - Switch And Nintendo Systems
@Diogmites
oh yeah i definitely recommend giving scarlet grace a go, the combat is considered some of the best in the series.
i would say the one oddity of the series would be FFlegend 3, ironically the game is "odd" because its the most "normal" one of them, playing closer to one of the nes FF games than a SaGa game, not saying its a bad game, i loved my time with it. (it did get a remake on DS which made it more like a traditional SaGa game but that was sadly unlocalized)
but yeah, the series has a good amount of variety to it.
Re: Best SaGa Games Of All Time - Switch And Nintendo Systems
@Diogmites
Both of them offer a unique experience which is nice so if you dont get on with one of them you may enjoy the other.
Re: Best SaGa Games Of All Time - Switch And Nintendo Systems
@Bomberman64
Re: Best SaGa Games Of All Time - Switch And Nintendo Systems
@Nanoline52
@Daniel36
Re: Talking Point: Would You Want To Reuse Your Joy-Con On 'Switch 2'?
I am hoping that the new ones would have analogue triggers but still hoping for the option to use controllers compatible with the original system for either games which dont make use of the triggers or backwards compatible games.
really the more choices in how you play the better.
Re: Hands On: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Is More Of The Glorious, Unhinged Same
@Itachi2099
feels like often when it happens it doesn't bode the best like with hundred heroes.
i do get that publishers would want to show off the game in the best state they can but the switch is still a version of the game they are selling and more often than not im most curious with that one to see how it holds up compared to the others.
Re: Video: How Does Paper Mario: TTYD On Switch Compare To The Original?
@Qwiff
does make me curious if some original switch games will get patches similar to what some 360 games got for when played on xbox one/series X etc (sonic unleashed being the one i mainly know of, i dont have a modern Xbox but hear its a big improvement)
i imagine games which had performance issues may run better similar to how they did on new3ds (iirc hyrule warriors on 3ds was one of them) though will be interesting to see if any games get "upgrade" patches similar to the xbox example.
Re: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Switch Frame Rate Revealed
@SBandy1
honestly i feel like this articles comment section has fared better than the other one, it does feel like there's a lot more discussion regarding it including going into the technical aspects and less examples of people just dismissing criticism as people being "haters" "spoiled", "pretentious" etc. (though i didnt see what the deleted comments were)
@JohnnyMind
yeah those aspects are what i was curious about.
While i would have loved to have a "performance" mode i am happy that from the sounds of it the 30fps is stable and being a remake hopefully the timing will be made to work around the framerate.
Re: Inti Creates Announces Gold Collection, Three Games On One Physical Switch Cart
@LikelySatan
From what i gather mighty gunvolt level design is much closer to something like classic megaman than gunvolt.
