@DashKappei curious how it is currently on switch 2, while it would be cool to see 120fps for this kind of game (for me personally i would love to see that with a 2d sonic) i remember hearing it had issues in the past and am unsure if they were fixed or not, as it is i would be more than happy if it runs fine and doesnt have any notable issues on switch 2 (crashes, bugs etc)
@Tropicallo yeah that's the big concern i have, that an update could potentially introduce issues to any one of the games i have with no guarantee of a fix and (AFAIK) no way to revert the update.
@JohnnyMind this is one of the games im curious about despite not being into footie, mainly because of the other elements of the game, it looking like a whole rpg with a story built around football with some over the top aspects.

@imgrowinglegs 'from that i gather cutscenes which would normally crash the game when viewed from the gallery instead just dont play when encountered in game and are just outright skipped.
it apparently is a problem across both Zero and Azure which is unfortunate since some of the most memorable moments in the story feature FMV scenes.
an example i used in the past would be imagine playing FFVII and when THAT moment occurred the FMVs didn't play (if you havent played FFVII then disregard this example)
@dazzleshell yeah im definitely curious to see how DLC tracks are incorperated into mario kart world.
as for the classic GP thing for me i think it would also be nice to have an option for online races to choose between having all traditional 3 lap races, all highway races and the current mixed option where all can show up. for me personally i was cool with the open world though it did feel more like the base for something really cool, like if they built upon the idea it could be something awesome wheres as it is its neat that it contextualizes the courses and it fun to do some chill driving while enjoying the music remixes though i can see how many would hope for something more to do in it.
As for air riders i havent actually got into any matches on the demo so i only have the tutorial stuff to go by but it feels like a lot of fun and looking at some of the gameplay the regular courses look flashy and fast paced wheres city trial looks like pure chaos (in a good way), i sadly never played the original game though was curious and am happy to also see that the old courses are in it.
@xenobladexfan ah its nice to hear Xillia runs well since i heared Graces F had an issue with input lag in combat, do wish that the Xillia switch port had 60fps combat like on ps3 but is nice to hear its stable at least (i remember while xillia still had some perfect dodge mechanics with jude it didnt feel as intense as Graces F could be on harder difficulties where perfect dodges are vital)

would definitely love to see VIII get a "definitive" modern release, i found the world in the 3ds one felt somewhat empty with a lot of the scenery/foliage in the distance missing (not just grass/plants but whole trees only appearing when close to them)
XI i loved and its one of those ones i would love to get some form of switch 2 upgrade since it does look rough on switch 2
i would say one of my most wanted modern releases with the series though would be some modern way to play IX, i absolutely loved that game and ended up getting surprisingly attached to my custom party (it also made reaching new towns more exciting since it meant more outfits and more fashion)
a bit of a ramble im sorry but yeah, also love the games (also on the subject of switch 2 DQbuilders 2 is nice on it since it means being able to make larger builds without it chugging to the underworld and back)
from personal experience with my games...Hit-or-miss for me at times, some games feel so much better on switch 2 (like Dragon quest builders 2 or fantasian) even without patches wheres other games either look worse/blurrier (such as the octopath games) or. while compatible have issues (mentioned in the other topic the issues with certain cutscenes not playing in trails from zero/to azure)
The fact that firmware updates seem to be slowly improving it is nice though, hopefully its something which continues to be improved on over time.
@mackers84 Yeah it would be nice if there was some optional way to have the games run as if they were docked while handheld (i say optional due to things like touchscreen stuff)
but yeah, as it is its promising with some rough edges which will hopefully be smoothed over time (and does make those firmware updates even more exciting, BC improvements alongside some of that stability)
It can still be a bit of a crap-shoot when it comes to whether or not a game has issues or not, for example a game can be listed as "consistent" with the original switch despite having some noticeable issues (albeit understandable given the sheer volume of games that there would be those that slip through the cracks)
an example ive mentioned prior would be something like Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure which afaik still have issues of most of the FMV cutscenes not playing (considering these are story heavy rpgs with FMVs used in several major moments it is definitely something i would consider a "noticable" issue) i think klonoa still has issues booting when it comes to the eshop version though if its been fixed feel free to correct.
That being said it is nice that BC has been steadily improved via firmware updates though it can still feel like a bit of a gamble whether a game would have issues or not. am looking forward to seeing it improve with future updates (stability has never been more exciting)
would be neat if there was an easy way to report potential issues though.
@johnedwin also if anything 60 would be closer to how people who grew up before 3d gaming would have experienced games iirc (even taking into account things like slowdown or sprite flicker) then again during that time i was gaming on 50hz/pal which is something im glad has dissapeared along with region locking (for the most part)
i remember the first time i played the classic sonic games on the gamecube collection in 60hz was an eye opener (remember 60fps not being uncommon on gamecube, even with some of the more visually intensive games like F zero GX and Starfox adventures)
@SalvorHardin yeah the ps3/360/early HD era in general kind of felt like the early 3d era in that performance definitely took a backseat towards visuals (with FPS alongside as you mentioned, input lag) , outside of smaller budget games or nintendo games (iirc most first party wii games were 60) since i tend to stick with consoles i remember seeing Mario kart 8 and being amazed seeing a game with that much visual fidelity run so smoothly.
@metaphysician yeah in regards to the last segment it could be similar to that with any luck and end up being just some thing to please the shareholders which is then forgotten about over time when it doesnt end up working out so well in practice.
Really wish Xillia had a switch 2 version/patch since it sounds like a similar case to Graces F remastered where the switch version has combat running at half the framerate of the original version which in graces F could have explained the input lag issue.
Edit: apparently some impressions of the switch version suggest that the input lag issue graces had isnt present but the performance and other technical aspects seem worse than it was on ps3 (outside of resolution)
@JohnnyMind yeah while im not a warhammer player (my brother is so i have seen a few aspects of the universe through him playing a couple of the games) this one did seem like the most interesting of the recent games ive seen, looking like a classic CRPG so feels like it could make good use of the franchise setting, though unsure if its one of those games which makes a great intro to the universe or if its one of those which assumes familiarity with elements (lore etc)
@Fighting_Game_Loser Yeah im loving the spectacle of the whole thing, i remember that being an aspect i really enjoyed in sonic riders too (that one segment in Babylon Garden i still find awesome) also loving the music ive heard so far.
My biggest curiosity atm is if there's a "story" mode or some kind of major single player mode (if thats what that small teaser with the guy on the bike was implying) heck while it had a somewhat mixed reception i still enjoyed my time with World of light on SSBU.
Between this and crossworlds eventual Switch 2 port (hope it turns out well) it should be a fun time coming up for racers.
@Solid_Python Yeah for me thats the main reason why i tend to go with switch 2 since its the only current handheld console (since all similar devices are more portable PCs) and as much as im hoping that rumoured sony handheld ends up happening (both for more choice and also because i do have a bunch of stuff on PS4/5 i would love to play portable, mainly falcom stuff which didnt often have the best switch ports) as it is now the switch is where i go for portable since i find it easier to focus on games especially RPGs.
@nin10doom that could be the Frame-pacing issue , im not really an expert on it or anything but it could explain it "feeling off" and why some games end up feeling smoother to play than others with similar frame-rates, since theres some games where theres issues that i havent noticed when watching videos but when playing it just didnt "feel" right.
the other article did mention that they're looking into a patch or something so hopefully that will fix the issue.
Nintendo has a very strong legacy and for me i would love to have either some amazing collections (imagine a mario collection which also had different versions of each game like including the all stars or GBA versions as options) or as you mentioned, purchasable games since there are many classic games i would gladly purchase and since nintendo has an account system now hopefully it would avoid the whole rebuying situation (being able to keep your games going forward etc)
im still hoping one of these updates ends up fixing the issues of FMVs not playing in 2 of the trails games (zero and azure) they are 2 amazing rpgs but its a pity that some of the big story moments aren't as impactful when scenes are missing. (fmvs are used sparingly but usually later in each game and during major story moments)
@maulinks as much as i loved rebirth i did also feel like the "open world to-do list" stuff was as aspect i wasnt as fond of, there was definitely some open world burn-out though i was thankful that it saved your progress with that stuff even when using the Newgame+/chapter select feature, even stuff like unlocking chocobos in each region (outside of the one point you do it in the story)
on the subject of replaying and whatnot i did love the "adaptive" difficulty setting where enemies scale with you since it meant when replaying chapters the enemies still put up a fight.
but yeah for completionists i can definitely see how the open world stuff could mess up the pacing and lead to the aforementioned burn-out so for people suceptable to that i do recommend they pace themselves with side stuff, its not gonna go anywhere.
kind of went off on a bit of a tangent but im really curious to see how the saga turns out on switch 2, maybe for me playing on handheld will make the optional stuff more relaxing to do.
looking at more info it does seem like they changed how flying works (mentioned flying in the original in the previous post) seems like its been nerfed quite a bit in when you can use it as to not let you just fly anywhere.
this does feel like an overall improvement to the game based on the things i mentioned in said prior post since it feels closer to how banjo or mario 64 handled flying.
@JohnnyMind but yeah, when it comes to things like those youtube clickbait thumbnails and whatnot, i just avoid those. half the time it feels like channels just latching on to whatever big divisive topic is going on at the time.
@JohnnyMind from looking at it it does feel like looking at the fantasy life article that a big thing people are getting at was the price of the DK one (i saw comparisons to a similar update in one of the God of War games which was free though i cant speak on the content since i havent played GoW)
i think one of the differences with the type of game is that it does feel like theres a want for DLC in Mario kart world though i imagine like the DK one it could come down to price vs content.
Though in terms of nintendo DLC it does seem like they have some really well regarded DLC over time like the Mario kart 8 one, the latter MK8deluxe one, Smash bros, octo expansion (though side order sounds a little more mixed reception wise) and stuff like the pokemon S/V dlc sounds like it was well received among fans of the game also the dream friends+heroes in another dimension updates for kirby star allies, it does feel like nintendo has a big history of well regarded DLC that the DK one definitely fell short of and with pokemon kind of being in a mixed place after the launch issues of S/V (though i hear a bunch were fixed over time and the switch 2 update vastly improving the game it sounds like its in a much better place now) that it definitely feels like the A-Z dlc is being looked upon quite harshly compared to prior gens (though legends arceus felt like it was well recieved)
i remember with the original one aspect i wasn't the biggest fan of was how it kind of felt like the flying ability trivialized some of the exploration (despite the ability being learned quite late) since a lot of fun in these kinds of games for me is figuring out how to get to specific places and i felt like with other platform games such as Mario 64 and the Banjo games that the limitations on flying made its uses feel better and more special when you couldnt just do it at any time.
@JohnnyMind it feels like in general post launch DLC is more accepted or even expected in certain genres such as Racing games, fighters, party games etc vs DLC with more of a single player focus such as story DLC or extra stages in platformers, (such as the fighters pass for smash bros which iirc was available to purchase around launch of smash ultimate)
then again with fighters weve had post-launch content for generations though back then it usually involved buying an entire new game (street fighter 2 for example counts as its own "series"). Oddly enough we have had post-launch content with things like RPGs back then before but it was mainly in japan and handled similar to how fighters were, things like the "final mix" versions of the kingdom hearts games (which fortunately the HD versions are based on so the west got to play that stuff, heres hoping switch 2 gets proper ports)also iirc japan got a second version of FFVII released the same year featuring the improvements and added content from the US/EU version,though i guess that kind of thing still does happen with things like Ys X (kingdom hearts 3 however had its extra content come in the form of DLC rather than a "final mix" version, and the west got it) .
Tangent aside it does feel like Crossworlds does feel like it has more to it than something like Team-sonic-racing even without the DLC and from what ive seen of it does seem like a nice alternative to mario kart (though air riders is the game im most curious about)
@DennyCrane ah that is nice to hear, i have in general had a rather mixed experience with gyro stuff, when playing something like quake/quake II or similar games its been super useful and i enjoy it for the extra accuracy it can bring to aiming in games in general though for things like the rolling ball shrine in BOTW or a similar minigame in kirby forgotten land i found it harder to use, i think its usually in cases where it doesnt matter what position you are in or anything involving smaller movements i find it easiest to use (one of my least favorite examples of gyro was whenever it came up in the 3ds version of sonic lost world especially those special stages) wheres favorite examples were some of those given above such as aiming.
@Solid_Python yeah ive seen it come up on a few other sources too, apparently quite a few of the FMV scenes are either skipped (when viewed in-game) or cause it to crash (when viewed through the cutscene gallery)
i did send a support email to NISA and got a reply that its being "forwarded to PR" a while back, could be a good idea to try nintendo too like you mentioned since iirc the game on the eshop displays as having "no issues" so yeah hopefully others also contact in hope that it doesnt get missed.
No though its less to do with the price and more that it sounds like its awkward to play in handheld mode which is the main reason why i would consider buying again. (the game already looked nice and ran at 60fps on wii)
im hoping that one of these updates can fix the issues of FMVs not showing in the legend of heroes trails from zero and trails to azure, they are fantastic rpgs and its a shame that some major story moments lose their impact because of the FMVs being skipped, an example ive used is imagine if you got to THAT part in FFVII and the FMVs didnt play.
@GrailUK Definitely super hyped for air riders, sadly never got to play the first one and was hoping for a while that it would get a remaster but a sequel is also super exciting.
but yeah kart racer fans are definitely in a good place right now, for me my personal fave one for single player was crash team racing due to how technical it could feel didnt play much of the remake though i think switch 2 improved the load times (the switch load times were one of the reasons i just ended up playing the original game) i enjoyed that both it and diddy kong racing had "adventure" modes with a hub world to explore and make their single player modes a bit more special (would have been neat for something like that in Mario kart world to take advantage of its open world)
as for Sonic racing crossworlds, im already sold on the game from what ive seen of it but am waiting for the switch 2 version, super fast and frantic racing is one of those genres where the higher framerates and snappier response really shines.
@molkom
think the Voice-over thing may be the youtube ai dub feature they added which can be annoying as hell (you can usually tell if the rest of the audio sounds muffled) you can turn it off in the video settings thankfully by setting it to the "original" audio track.
EDIT:unless you are talking about the demo trailer, the "premiere trailer" has the auto dub but the demo one doesnt in english.
i think it seems to be automatically on for embeds.
@ear_wig Could also be Lightning from the FFXIII saga! shes back! In pog form! (in all fairness i did enjoy lightning returns, it had a lot of rough edges but i remember having a lot of fun with the combat and exploration)
@JohnnyMind yeah definitely curious to how part 3 turns out in general, i absolutely loved rebirth and while it may feel like im dismissing this game i feel if anything rebirth enhances this one. (ended up replaying it back on ps5 after finishing rebirth) am also happy that its the intergrade version with the yuffie DLC since said character was one of my faves to play as.
The stuff ive seen in the game make it look like a blast to play but can definitely see how things like the blurrier visuals and performance issues could put a massive damper on this kind of game especially with how fast and frantic things can get.
am waiting on the SW2 version but in terms of the actual game im sold.
@JohnnyMind this is definitely one of the ones im happy to replay on switch 2 and is great to hear it seems to be turning out well.
am curious to see how rebirth turns out (i enjoyed remake a lot but rebirth felt like a massive step up overall for me) though in another topic user @OrtadragoonX did mention some reassuring things such as how apparently the game isnt too CPU heavy and how the switch 2 upscaling could play well with it compared to how PS5 handled it so heres hoping for the best.
Really enjoyed trials of mana and the class/party system gave it a good amount of replay value, honestly outside of the item drop stuff with the final classes the only real issues came from the game apparently having a bunch of bugs such as stats apparently not working as intended making some characters/classes a lot weaker than they should be while making some a lot stronger than they should be, dont think it was to the degree of the original Final fantasy (the Nes version of ff1 it seemed like a good amount of items or spells didnt work properly including some doing nothing) though.
found the remake really enjoyable too, while i did prefer the aesthetics of the original (i loved that late 16-bit look even if a lot of games initially werent localized during that time) but the remake still looked nice imo and defintely felt like a big upgrade from the FFlegend and secret of mana remakes
Also am super glad the original game was made available in the west in a form you could purchase (even including a physical version of the collection) since playing the original made me appreciate the remake and what it did differently.
also does make me curious to see if visions gets a switch 2 release.
@Noelemahc yeah that does make the switch 2 ones that bit more interesting.
i mean i enjoy stability as much as the next person but its always interesting to see if any games got any fixes, minor or otherwise.
(still hoping that someday the issue of FMVs not playing on trails from zero/trails to azure are fixed, the games show up as not having issues on the eshop but a significant amount of FMV scenes outright dont play and many of these are during important story scenes, like imagine getting to a specific scene in FFVII and the pre-rendered scenes are skipped)
@HammerKirby From what i hear it seems to be the case, at least i hear docked its actually smoother than switch 2 wheres handheld is better on switch 2.
though the switch 2 version is apparently getting a patch to add in the advertised "graphics" and "performance" options since as it is now theres no sign of them and as it is it feels like its running in "graphics" mode but with the framerate uncapped (or at least targeting 60) so it can be erratic.
@Dang_69 There was a reddit topic where someone mentioned that they got a reply mentioning that "performance" and "graphics" modes will be added by patch @libersolis also linked it in a previous pose so hopefully it will end up smoothing things out in both docked and handheld in performance mode.
a guess is that as it is it feels like its trying to do both at once, like its trying to run the visual quality of "graphics" mode but also trying to aim for 60fps but it ending up not hitting that outside of enclosed areas like some dungeons.
@OmnitronVariant ty for that, i always find these kinds of looks into technical aspects surrounding older games, the dithering and whatnot i mentioned i remember seeing used as an example with things like the waterfalls in sonic.
@OmnitronVariant oh yeah it definitely does feel like quite a few aspects of that era are made worse on modern TVs (like the slowdown you mentioned), while ive seen the term "nostalgia goggles" applied to situations like that as you mentioned there are actual differences (another thing i remember was certain effects such as dithering which lost some of their intended effect on newer TVs)
It would also explain why the early HD era if anything felt even rougher than the early 3D era (i guess the more detailed visuals also didn't help since it made everything feel more visually noisy and harder to pick up on things at lower framerates wheres i find it easier to play those n64 era games even on modern displays)
While it would be nice to have an option to unlock the framerate (since it would do great for future proofing, maybe include a warning like iirc that ninja gaiden game did) im definitely in the camp which prefers a stable 30 with good pacing over a messy one.
@Darthmoogle
to be fair 16-bit era was where 60hz was pretty much standard so games back then were the equivalent of a 60fps game nowadays, naturally that changed when games went 3d but as @OmnitronVariant mentioned there was also the difference when it came to CRT-TVs.
in terms of gaming discussion back then we were also knee deep in the "bit wars" and during the early 3d era it almost felt like there was a disdain for 2d games (a nintendo magazine iirc was famous for talking crap about SOTN and its 2d 32-bit graphics in a castlevania 64 preview) alongside 2d games being less likely to be localized in the west.
it feels like the main difference really is where the discussion and whatnot is, like nowadays the internet does make things a lot more wide and chaotic than it was and it does feel like theres a lot fewer "hit piece" advertisements and articles, though a positive at least is that it feels like people have a much better idea of how things like 60fps or frame pacing affect games than the amount of "bits" back then or phrases like "blast processing" which for a while there were those wondering if that even existed (apparently it did but was still somewhat misrepresented by marketing or something along those lines)

That being said it is nice that BC has been steadily improved via firmware updates though it can still feel like a bit of a gamble whether a game would have issues or not. am looking forward to seeing it improve with future updates (stability has never been more exciting)
would be neat if there was an easy way to report potential issues though.
Re: Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO Switch Update For "Enhanced Version" On Switch 2 Outlined
@johnedwin
also if anything 60 would be closer to how people who grew up before 3d gaming would have experienced games iirc (even taking into account things like slowdown or sprite flicker) then again during that time i was gaming on 50hz/pal which is something im glad has dissapeared along with region locking (for the most part)
i remember the first time i played the classic sonic games on the gamecube collection in 60hz was an eye opener (remember 60fps not being uncommon on gamecube, even with some of the more visually intensive games like F zero GX and Starfox adventures)
@SalvorHardin
yeah the ps3/360/early HD era in general kind of felt like the early 3d era in that performance definitely took a backseat towards visuals (with FPS alongside as you mentioned, input lag) , outside of smaller budget games or nintendo games (iirc most first party wii games were 60) since i tend to stick with consoles i remember seeing Mario kart 8 and being amazed seeing a game with that much visual fidelity run so smoothly.
Re: Square Enix Aims To Automate 70% Of QA With Generative AI By 2027
@metaphysician
yeah in regards to the last segment it could be similar to that with any luck and end up being just some thing to please the shareholders which is then forgotten about over time when it doesnt end up working out so well in practice.
Re: Nintendo Download: 30th October (North America)
Really wish Xillia had a switch 2 version/patch since it sounds like a similar case to Graces F remastered where the switch version has combat running at half the framerate of the original version which in graces F could have explained the input lag issue.
Edit: apparently some impressions of the switch version suggest that the input lag issue graces had isnt present but the performance and other technical aspects seem worse than it was on ps3 (outside of resolution)
Re: Switch 2's First Warhammer 40,000 Game Isn't The One You Might Expect
@JohnnyMind
yeah while im not a warhammer player (my brother is so i have seen a few aspects of the universe through him playing a couple of the games) this one did seem like the most interesting of the recent games ive seen, looking like a classic CRPG so feels like it could make good use of the franchise setting, though unsure if its one of those games which makes a great intro to the universe or if its one of those which assumes familiarity with elements (lore etc)
Re: Sakurai Reveals Even More Kirby Air Riders Footage Ahead Of Tomorrow's Direct
@Fighting_Game_Loser
Yeah im loving the spectacle of the whole thing, i remember that being an aspect i really enjoyed in sonic riders too (that one segment in Babylon Garden i still find awesome) also loving the music ive heard so far.
Re: Atlus To Address Persona 3 Reload's Switch 2 Frame Rate Hiccups In "Future Patches"
@Solid_Python
Yeah for me thats the main reason why i tend to go with switch 2 since its the only current handheld console (since all similar devices are more portable PCs) and as much as im hoping that rumoured sony handheld ends up happening (both for more choice and also because i do have a bunch of stuff on PS4/5 i would love to play portable, mainly falcom stuff which didnt often have the best switch ports) as it is now the switch is where i go for portable since i find it easier to focus on games especially RPGs.
Re: Review: Persona 3 Reload (Switch 2) - A Great Remake, But Still Not Definitive
@nin10doom
that could be the Frame-pacing issue , im not really an expert on it or anything but it could explain it "feeling off" and why some games end up feeling smoother to play than others with similar frame-rates, since theres some games where theres issues that i havent noticed when watching videos but when playing it just didnt "feel" right.
the other article did mention that they're looking into a patch or something so hopefully that will fix the issue.
Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Team Open To More DLC: "Tell Us What You Want"
Re: Nintendo's Trademarking 'Virtual Console' Again, But Don't Get Your Hopes Up
@SillyG
yeah this is pretty much how i feel.
Re: Two More Switch Games Have Received Compatibility Updates On Switch 2
im still hoping one of these updates ends up fixing the issues of FMVs not playing in 2 of the trails games (zero and azure) they are 2 amazing rpgs but its a pity that some of the big story moments aren't as impactful when scenes are missing. (fmvs are used sparingly but usually later in each game and during major story moments)
Re: Final Fantasy VII Remake Switch 2 Trailer Introduces Shinra, The Turks & Avalanche
@maulinks
as much as i loved rebirth i did also feel like the "open world to-do list" stuff was as aspect i wasnt as fond of, there was definitely some open world burn-out though i was thankful that it saved your progress with that stuff even when using the Newgame+/chapter select feature, even stuff like unlocking chocobos in each region (outside of the one point you do it in the story)
on the subject of replaying and whatnot i did love the "adaptive" difficulty setting where enemies scale with you since it meant when replaying chapters the enemies still put up a fight.
but yeah for completionists i can definitely see how the open world stuff could mess up the pacing and lead to the aforementioned burn-out so for people suceptable to that i do recommend they pace themselves with side stuff, its not gonna go anywhere.
kind of went off on a bit of a tangent but im really curious to see how the saga turns out on switch 2, maybe for me playing on handheld will make the optional stuff more relaxing to do.
Re: Review: Yooka-Replaylee (Switch 2) - Feels Like The Game It Was Meant To Be, Finally
looking at more info it does seem like they changed how flying works (mentioned flying in the original in the previous post) seems like its been nerfed quite a bit in when you can use it as to not let you just fly anywhere.
this does feel like an overall improvement to the game based on the things i mentioned in said prior post since it feels closer to how banjo or mario 64 handled flying.
Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds First "Premium" DLC Pack Arrives This Week
@JohnnyMind
but yeah, when it comes to things like those youtube clickbait thumbnails and whatnot, i just avoid those. half the time it feels like channels just latching on to whatever big divisive topic is going on at the time.
Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds First "Premium" DLC Pack Arrives This Week
@JohnnyMind
from looking at it it does feel like looking at the fantasy life article that a big thing people are getting at was the price of the DK one (i saw comparisons to a similar update in one of the God of War games which was free though i cant speak on the content since i havent played GoW)
i think one of the differences with the type of game is that it does feel like theres a want for DLC in Mario kart world though i imagine like the DK one it could come down to price vs content.
Re: Review: Yooka-Replaylee (Switch 2) - Feels Like The Game It Was Meant To Be, Finally
i remember with the original one aspect i wasn't the biggest fan of was how it kind of felt like the flying ability trivialized some of the exploration (despite the ability being learned quite late) since a lot of fun in these kinds of games for me is figuring out how to get to specific places and i felt like with other platform games such as Mario 64 and the Banjo games that the limitations on flying made its uses feel better and more special when you couldnt just do it at any time.
Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds First "Premium" DLC Pack Arrives This Week
@JohnnyMind
it feels like in general post launch DLC is more accepted or even expected in certain genres such as Racing games, fighters, party games etc vs DLC with more of a single player focus such as story DLC or extra stages in platformers, (such as the fighters pass for smash bros which iirc was available to purchase around launch of smash ultimate)
then again with fighters weve had post-launch content for generations though back then it usually involved buying an entire new game (street fighter 2 for example counts as its own "series").
Tangent aside it does feel like Crossworlds does feel like it has more to it than something like Team-sonic-racing even without the DLC and from what ive seen of it does seem like a nice alternative to mario kart (though air riders is the game im most curious about)
Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?
@DennyCrane
ah that is nice to hear, i have in general had a rather mixed experience with gyro stuff, when playing something like quake/quake II or similar games its been super useful and i enjoy it for the extra accuracy it can bring to aiming in games in general though for things like the rolling ball shrine in BOTW or a similar minigame in kirby forgotten land i found it harder to use, i think its usually in cases where it doesnt matter what position you are in or anything involving smaller movements i find it easiest to use (one of my least favorite examples of gyro was whenever it came up in the 3ds version of sonic lost world especially those special stages) wheres favorite examples were some of those given above such as aiming.
Re: More Switch Games Get Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes
@Solid_Python
yeah ive seen it come up on a few other sources too, apparently quite a few of the FMV scenes are either skipped (when viewed in-game) or cause it to crash (when viewed through the cutscene gallery)
i did send a support email to NISA and got a reply that its being "forwarded to PR" a while back, could be a good idea to try nintendo too like you mentioned since iirc the game on the eshop displays as having "no issues" so yeah hopefully others also contact in hope that it doesnt get missed.
Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?
No though its less to do with the price and more that it sounds like its awkward to play in handheld mode which is the main reason why i would consider buying again. (the game already looked nice and ran at 60fps on wii)
Re: More Switch Games Get Switch 2 Compatibility Fixes
im hoping that one of these updates can fix the issues of FMVs not showing in the legend of heroes trails from zero and trails to azure, they are fantastic rpgs and its a shame that some major story moments lose their impact because of the FMVs being skipped, an example ive used is imagine if you got to THAT part in FFVII and the FMVs didnt play.
Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me
@GrailUK
Definitely super hyped for air riders, sadly never got to play the first one and was hoping for a while that it would get a remaster but a sequel is also super exciting.
but yeah kart racer fans are definitely in a good place right now, for me my personal fave one for single player was crash team racing due to how technical it could feel didnt play much of the remake though i think switch 2 improved the load times (the switch load times were one of the reasons i just ended up playing the original game) i enjoyed that both it and diddy kong racing had "adventure" modes with a hub world to explore and make their single player modes a bit more special (would have been neat for something like that in Mario kart world to take advantage of its open world)
as for Sonic racing crossworlds, im already sold on the game from what ive seen of it but am waiting for the switch 2 version, super fast and frantic racing is one of those genres where the higher framerates and snappier response really shines.
but yeah, good time for Kart racer fans.
Re: Review: Disgaea 7 Complete (Switch 2) - A Definitive Return For This Tactical RPG Giant
curious if the colour edit feature for custom units is back in the "complete" version since im not sure if thats been in any of the 3d games.
if not i assume you can at least pick from a set colour scheme like before.
Re: Inti Creates Unveils New "Paper Craft" 2D Action Game For Switch 2, Out October
@molkom
think the Voice-over thing may be the youtube ai dub feature they added which can be annoying as hell (you can usually tell if the rest of the audio sounds muffled) you can turn it off in the video settings thankfully by setting it to the "original" audio track.
EDIT:unless you are talking about the demo trailer, the "premiere trailer" has the auto dub but the demo one doesnt in english.
i think it seems to be automatically on for embeds.
Re: "Lighting Is The Crucial Factor" - How Square Enix Made Final Fantasy VII Remake Look Great On Switch 2
@ear_wig
Could also be Lightning from the FFXIII saga! shes back! In pog form! (in all fairness i did enjoy lightning returns, it had a lot of rough edges but i remember having a lot of fun with the combat and exploration)
@JohnnyMind
yeah definitely curious to how part 3 turns out in general, i absolutely loved rebirth and while it may feel like im dismissing this game i feel if anything rebirth enhances this one. (ended up replaying it back on ps5 after finishing rebirth) am also happy that its the intergrade version with the yuffie DLC since said character was one of my faves to play as.
Re: Review: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds (Switch) - Cracking Karting, But Struggles To Keep Up On Switch
The stuff ive seen in the game make it look like a blast to play but can definitely see how things like the blurrier visuals and performance issues could put a massive damper on this kind of game especially with how fast and frantic things can get.
am waiting on the SW2 version but in terms of the actual game im sold.
Re: "Lighting Is The Crucial Factor" - How Square Enix Made Final Fantasy VII Remake Look Great On Switch 2
@JohnnyMind
this is definitely one of the ones im happy to replay on switch 2 and is great to hear it seems to be turning out well.
am curious to see how rebirth turns out (i enjoyed remake a lot but rebirth felt like a massive step up overall for me) though in another topic user @OrtadragoonX did mention some reassuring things such as how apparently the game isnt too CPU heavy and how the switch 2 upscaling could play well with it compared to how PS5 handled it so heres hoping for the best.
Re: Feature: Get A Job - 30 Years On, Seiken Densetsu 3's Class System Is Still One Of The Best
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 System Update 20.5.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@Noelemahc
yeah that does make the switch 2 ones that bit more interesting.
i mean i enjoy stability as much as the next person but its always interesting to see if any games got any fixes, minor or otherwise.
Re: Review: Trails In The Sky 1st Chapter - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - A Comprehensive Update Of A Classic Series Opener
@HammerKirby
From what i hear it seems to be the case, at least i hear docked its actually smoother than switch 2 wheres handheld is better on switch 2.
though the switch 2 version is apparently getting a patch to add in the advertised "graphics" and "performance" options since as it is now theres no sign of them and as it is it feels like its running in "graphics" mode but with the framerate uncapped (or at least targeting 60) so it can be erratic.
Re: Review: Trails In The Sky 1st Chapter - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - A Comprehensive Update Of A Classic Series Opener
@Dang_69
There was a reddit topic where someone mentioned that they got a reply mentioning that "performance" and "graphics" modes will be added by patch @libersolis also linked it in a previous pose so hopefully it will end up smoothing things out in both docked and handheld in performance mode.
a guess is that as it is it feels like its trying to do both at once, like its trying to run the visual quality of "graphics" mode but also trying to aim for 60fps but it ending up not hitting that outside of enclosed areas like some dungeons.
Re: Rumour: A Bunch Of LEGO Games Might Get The 'Switch 2 Edition' Treatment Soon
@The_Nintendo_Pedant
if there was one nintendo franchise which the addition of 120fps would fit like a glove that would be F-zero!
Re: Dynasty Warriors: Origins Will Run At A "Fixed" 30fps On Switch 2
@OmnitronVariant
ty for that, i always find these kinds of looks into technical aspects surrounding older games, the dithering and whatnot i mentioned i remember seeing used as an example with things like the waterfalls in sonic.
Re: Dynasty Warriors: Origins Will Run At A "Fixed" 30fps On Switch 2
@OmnitronVariant
oh yeah it definitely does feel like quite a few aspects of that era are made worse on modern TVs (like the slowdown you mentioned), while ive seen the term "nostalgia goggles" applied to situations like that as you mentioned there are actual differences (another thing i remember was certain effects such as dithering which lost some of their intended effect on newer TVs)
It would also explain why the early HD era if anything felt even rougher than the early 3D era (i guess the more detailed visuals also didn't help since it made everything feel more visually noisy and harder to pick up on things at lower framerates wheres i find it easier to play those n64 era games even on modern displays)
Re: Dynasty Warriors: Origins Will Run At A "Fixed" 30fps On Switch 2
While it would be nice to have an option to unlock the framerate (since it would do great for future proofing, maybe include a warning like iirc that ninja gaiden game did) im definitely in the camp which prefers a stable 30 with good pacing over a messy one.
Re: Dynasty Warriors: Origins Will Run At A "Fixed" 30fps On Switch 2
@Darthmoogle
to be fair 16-bit era was where 60hz was pretty much standard so games back then were the equivalent of a 60fps game nowadays, naturally that changed when games went 3d but as @OmnitronVariant mentioned there was also the difference when it came to CRT-TVs.
in terms of gaming discussion back then we were also knee deep in the "bit wars" and during the early 3d era it almost felt like there was a disdain for 2d games (a nintendo magazine iirc was famous for talking crap about SOTN and its 2d 32-bit graphics in a castlevania 64 preview) alongside 2d games being less likely to be localized in the west.
it feels like the main difference really is where the discussion and whatnot is, like nowadays the internet does make things a lot more wide and chaotic than it was and it does feel like theres a lot fewer "hit piece" advertisements and articles, though a positive at least is that it feels like people have a much better idea of how things like 60fps or frame pacing affect games than the amount of "bits" back then or phrases like "blast processing" which for a while there were those wondering if that even existed (apparently it did but was still somewhat misrepresented by marketing or something along those lines)
apologies for the somewhat rambling comment.
