@Jarl76 yeah one of the things i feel makes a big difference with mario kart is while 8 looked absolutely stunning the sweeping landscapes themselves were backdrops so i imagine they wouldn't need to worry about things like collision detection or whatnot where's with world there looks to be a LOT of interactive elements such as grind rails and other stuff which needs to be accounted for.
While there were parts of the direct i wasn't the biggest fan of the system itself definitely feels like a major jump over the original switch when it comes to capabilities.
The console itself seems capable and im curious to see what kind of games it opens itself up to though theres also the drawback of how a lot of games will likely need mandatory downloads and installs (at least going by the "key card" stuff on the JP site)
At the very least the virtual game card thing seems to mention that they are keeping the ability to play games offline for anything that isnt on NSO.
Price related stuff seems excessive in places not helped by stuff like Tariffs,
Games wise not too many first party releases but Mario kart and DK do look interesting, happy to see third partys jump in a the ground floor though.
Chat stuff seems like a step forward for nintendo at the very least though still feels like theres a lot of catching up to do, will most likely just use discord personally but nice for those who will use it.
Gamecube stuff for me was a big monkeys paw moment mainly because its only available on subscription and no option to buy/keep, though thats more my thoughts on NSO as a whole.
Overall mixed feelings about certain things but hoping for the best.
@OorWullie It does kind of feel like while with home consoles theres been some diminishing returns, with handheld consoles it does feel like the jump is a lot more noticable, i remember picking up the vita back in 2012 and found the jump in visuals from consoles like the psp impressed me more than the ps3>ps4 jump, then going on from vita to switch and it looks like going from switch 1 to switch 2 will have the same effect, as you mentioned it will feel like a LEAP in terms of visuals.
@Diowine L yeah does make me curious about the third game (and also rebirth) since having the full trilogy on a dedicated handheld console would be awesome.
@Truegamer79 With the first part of remake it wont take too long to finish but i can see rebirth taking an extremely long time to finish especially if going for everything since the scope is so much bigger, thats not even getting into the third game.
though for me i didnt regret my time with them (as frustrating as trying to 100% explore the gongaga region was)
@Joriss for me i do find it easier to focus for longer periods of time on a handheld at least, its one of the reasons i held out on re:fantazio since it feels like a switch 2 release down the line would be a safe bet.
@MaseSco honestly im hoping skies of arcadia ends up getting the remaster treatment, basically having the gamecube content with the dreamcast audio quality in HD.
Both because it would also get the game out to more people since it would likely be multiplat alongside the advantage of being able to keep the game.
@Not_Soos i do remember finding the tank controls in croc easier to get used to than tomb raider since tomb raider kind of felt like a 3d equivalent of those "cinematic" platformers like Flashback where jumping was done in a very specific way, croc feels more like a regular 3d platformer with tank controls and as tank controls go i found them some of the easier ones to use with things like being able to quick-turn and whatnot.
i am curious to see how the modern controls feel since i remember it feeling like there were points in a level where tank controls felt surprisingly natural such as lining up some of the more tricky jumps, it felt more like the levels were built around the controls compared to something like Rascal (another psone platformer with tank controls) where iirc the tank controls were put in the game later as per request of the publisher or something like that while the levels and gameplay was designed without them.
@Truegamer79 @Ultimapunch It does feel odd that outside of NSO theyve been making more attempts to help future-proof digital content such as virtual game cards offering another way to keep access to games offline outside of the usual "primary console" settings.
yet with the Legacy content it feels almost the opposite, while preferable to streaming since the games are being played natively, it being subscription-only can still cause issues such as games being delisted rendering them unplayable (wheres with eshop games people could still play them if they had bought them)
in other topics you would often see people comparing it to the likes of PS+ or gamepass but with those services games that are being played natively can be bought independent of the service (including the psone and ps2 games on PS+)
i do like the idea of legacy gaming content being made more available via official means and am not against the idea of the service existing since it does work for many people, all i wish is that it wasnt the only way to access many of these games on switch and that there was the ability to purchase as an option like with similar services.
Really from what ive seen the only flaw with the remaster is that it uses the PC/saturn soundtrack which was missing quite a few music tracks.
though given how much care and love the devs have put into the package as a whole it wouldn't surprise me if they did end up adding the music down the line.
other than that its great to hear the remaster turned out well and am looking forward to replaying the game (replayed it a few years back on psone and still enjoyed it)
@-wc- yeah it does feel like some games do feel like touchscreen would just be the perfect fit but oddly dont. while for the most part i preffer using buttons for menus and whatnot because im more used to it when it comes to things like creative tools such as the stage creator in smash i preffer the touch option.
if it is a mouse mode it would be good for things like Mario maker when in TV mode (since TV mode is more "social" and sometimes its fun to watch someone create or make a stage together) or something like as an option if square ends up doing something like putting FFXIV on it.
@-wc- I imagine handheld mode since tabletop mode and TV mode would work with a theoretical "mouse" mode.
though in handheld mode you would be able to use the touchscreen for anything which would require the (speculated) mouse feature.
to be fair though while its yet to be seen if the mouse mode is real i dont think the inability to use it in handheld mode would rule it out since after all not being able to use a feature in one of the modes didnt stop the touchscreen.
still only about a day or so until confirmation on whether it is a mouse.
Does make sense especially considering the very early 2010s (edit: more like around the very late 2000s and very early 2010s around whn 360 was at its most popular) there were quite a few games by japanese developers or publishers which seemed like they were trying to match the style of games the west was producing at the time and while some did end up getting a somewhat cult following like Enslaved:odyssey to the west (developed by ninja theory but published by namco) it felt like there were a lot more ended up largely forgotten by a lot of people.
@Erigen Does make me wonder if this will end up getting a switch 2 version too considering its later in the year.
Though on that subject it does make me curious if the earlier games on switch (cold steel 3-4 reverie etc) will end up getting native ports since from what i gather cold steel 3 and 4 got ported to ps5 despite the ps4 versions being backwards compatible and reverie onwards got ps5 versions at launch (again iirc)
As a side feature it could offer another option on how to play supported games which would be neat especially as a multiplayer option.
Im just hoping that it doesn't end up mandatory in any games though it requiring a second console hopefully means it wont be , at least for single player stuff.
@JohnnyMind yeah for me it feels like a mix of the switch 2 being on the horizon and that Xenoblade X is gonna take a while (also SaGa frontier 2 remaster!!!!) so im fine with waiting and seeing if theres an updated version or if switch 2 will smooth out issues on older games through BC.
@Andee @konicstar yeah for me while it was star allies i found the most jarring due to previous kirby games in that style running at 60fps even on 3ds i found forgotten land the far more enjoyable game and while things like the dodge timing was super generous having more responsiveness and smoothness to a games gameplay is always nice alongside looking nicer.
@PikminMarioKirby for cross gen i wonder if it will be similar to the other systems where it seemed to depend on the publisher and in some other cases the game, but there were games where you could get the "upgrade" for free.
i think crash 4 was one of them, i know that FFXIV is one since i was able to download the ps5 version for free.
also curious to see if some backwards compatible games which dont have a dedicated "switch 2" version get enhancement patches similar to some of the backwards compatible games on xbox like sonic unleashed which got a 60fps patch which in something as fast as sonic was a massive improvement especially on this one jungle stage which would chug on previous gen.
though as i mentioned in a prior topic im hoping that running original switch games on switch 2 is kind of like running them on a "pro" console or "new 3ds" in that it smooths out some of the rough edges
@The-Chosen-one does make me hope theres a base level boost to things like framerate and load times similar to playing games on a "pro" system, not expecting 30fps games to suddenly be 60 since that would need a patch but hoping they can hit their target easier.
@RupeeClock Definitely felt like they improved with each game, especially in handheld mode 2 was extremely messy both visuals and performance wise with DE having its moments of lower resolution and some frame drops but much better, further improving with 3 and with X it feels like the best the franchise has ever looked in handheld mode and feels generally even more stable than DE and 3.
interested to see what kind of magic they work with the switch 2 over its lifetime.
@SlackerArtist Wild arms is a personal pipe dream of mine (especially the original 3 as a trilogy release) but yeah ape escape was amazing and i loved how creative those games got with the analogue stick controls.
@Ralizah
think DDS was my introduction to the Megaten series as a whole (then played nocturne/lucifers call: featuring dante from the devil may cryTM series)
remember being super exited for DDS2s european release after getting super into the first.
I am hoping that it doesnt run into some of the issues that nocturne did on switch but i imagine when they get round to DDS the switch 2 would have been out for a while so maybe that would improve things even if the port ends up similar.
@Kiz3000 one thing im curious about is things such as online checks, since one of the things about a primary system is the advantage of not needing to use the internet in order to access your games. (basically as long as your system is registered as primary you can play digital offline on any user on that system for as long as you want iirc)
The video showing the account though did mention that online is only needed when loading or ejecting so i assume that you can still stay offline as long as the game is on your system
A lot of the time it can feel like people underestimate how much the average consumer will be aware of new products and whatnot, i think some of it feels like it comes from concerns after what happened with the wiiu.
The thing is while the wiiu's confusing reveal trailer and issues with marketing did likely contribute towards some people being confused about what it was it also feels like a big issue with the wiiu was that the idea just didn't seem like it appealed to a lot of people.
That being said the Switch 2 being called the switch 2 feels like the best choice considering how having a number at the end of a device has shown to work both in and out of the gaming space, plus the whole concept of the switch still seems appealing for a lot of people at least it definitely feels like theres more people clamouring for a "switch 2" than there were a "wii 2" later on i its life.
(also to be fair the wiius name did at least feel less confusing than what xbox is doing or less awkward than the "new 3ds")
@Ulysses yeah this is one of the things im waiting to see with this game.
While im hoping that by default switch games run somewhat smoother on switch 2 similar to running games on a "pro" system or "new3ds" naturally a native switch 2 port will be better though as you mentioned it could be unpredictable with third parties since on playstation and i imagine xbox it felt like a gamble on which games would let you "upgrade" for free. (i think out of all the ps4 games i had which had a ps5 version (which to be fair wasnt that many) only FFXIV had the option to upgrade without buying again.
@Andy_Witmyer Honestly for me the only disappointment is more to do with NSO not allowing for game purchases to keep the games.
otherwise would buy the heck out of them, heard a lot about Romance of the 3 kingdoms and Nobunaga's ambition, new horizons sounds neat though though i think lord of darkness is the only one i haven't really heard of.
@Sarkos Sadly licencing can be very volatile and yeah im in a similar situation where this isnt a game which interests me but every game is at least someone's favourite so its always unfortunate to see something delisted.
@EarthboundBenjy Also being that its NSO rather than eshop it being delisted means its outright becoming unplayable where's with eshop games people could at least scramble to purchase the game before its gone in order to still play it.
@Banjo-
Hey no fret about late replies, often it can be good for ones mental health to take a break from online related stuff.
I definitely feel like digital has a long way to go still and while im not expecting anything on the level of GOG on console sadly i do appreciate any steps companies make towards future-proofing gaming.
its why i appreciate PS+ and gamepass offering the option to purchase the games (at least the ones running native, theres still games like ps3 games on ps+ which arent running native though iirc there are some rumours regarding sony considering offering ps3 games available through emulation in the future)
but yeah, as mentioned when it comes to legacy content im still more than happy to support releases from companies like nightdive and M2 (hamster inc are also great) and even some of nintendos better remasters like the recent Xenoblade X one which ive been pleased with (also if planet robobot HD ends up being real then im definitely picking that up especially if its to the standard of that return to dreamland remaster)
@Inc Thats why i wish there was the option to purchase/keep games (similar to ps+ and iirc gamepass) since it would at least offer some form of contingency plan against delisting's.
@Zyph
mentioned it in other discussions about this but curious to see if games will have performance issues smoothed out across the board through virtue of improved hardware , as you mentioned in a similar way to a pro console or running a game on a more powerful PC,
an example would be something like dragon quest builders 2 which targets 60fps, the keyword being "targets", it ends up only really hitting it in places where not much is built and when you start going for larger, more elaborate builds it starts to chug hard.
naturally raising a capped framerate would need a patch or support already in the game but if running games on switch 2 would mean their framerate is more stable then it would be great news for certain games. (i imagine load time could also be improved for example im still playing the ps4 version of FFXIV on ps5 but its load times are significantly faster through virtue of having an SSD)
@GrailUK
I mean to be fair i can kind of see why something like an MMO would go for the subscription stuff due to things like updates and other long term plans alongside the sheer amount of players at once. at the very least it sounds preferable to how a lot of f2p mmos handle things.
With games like this or other mobile type service games i tend to avoid them since it can feel like a crap-shoot whether or not the game will even be available a few months down the line or in the case of Mario 35 where it was a Deliberate Mc-rib'ing. Ditto for single player games which use the service model for things like gacha, just look at how many mobile tales-of games namco released over the years and then shut down, iirc at least one didnt even get a conclusion to its plot.
@gcunit yeah im really curious and hoping that there's some form of boost to older games to help stabilize them (or even select games getting patched to take advantage of it like how some backwards compatible 360 games got on xbox one, an example being sonic unleashed running at 60fps on it)
@JohnnyMind definitely a lot to look forward to, will be interesting to see the evolution of mechanics and the like, the second game was an oddity in that it was closer to what the SaGa series would become in terms of character progression.
VI is definitely a fan favorite and i can see why though ny far my personal fave of the original 6 games is FFV, it had a job system which also paved the way for the job systems in games like the bravely default and octopath series.
Im hoping mic usage on the system will be more for things like this and not those "blow into the mic" mechanics which felt like they were everywhere for a while on Nintendo systems. (or at the very least make them optional)
@iLikeUrAttitude with switch it was frustrating that they made capturing screenshots easier but also made the act of sharing them much more annoying since there was no messaging or sharing between friends which was made worse by the fact that wiiu had not only sharing with friends but also had the likes of miiverse.
@Vyacheslav333 it can feel like a lot of the time when it comes to online stuff that it can feel like one step forward and 2 steps back in a lot of ways, like we finally got an account system meaning purchases are no longer tied to your console but can no longer purchase legacy content like with wii and wiiu.
@AG_Awesome yeah thats been one of the things ive been curious about with switch 2, while im also hoping that there's some form of "boost" to games even without a patch so games can hit their target framerate/resolution easier, im hoping that some games that were capped at 30 on switch such as this can get a patch to increase said cap.
@StarPoint Does make me wish it was a case of porting too since iirc wasn't that the case with the HD collection on 360/ps3 which seemed to run a lot better on weaker hardware vs this modern collection.
@Banjo-
The kingdom hearts games being cloud versions stung, i could understand somewhat with 3 but 1.5 and 2.5 were on ps3, it definitely felt like square wanted them on the eshop in some form quickly to coincide with sora in smash but i would gladly have waited for a proper port of the originals. (im hoping switch 2 fixes that)
one of the things with the discussions is that while it can feel like some are implying that those who want to buy the games are making an unreasonable comment or are "entitled" from what i gather a lot of the criticism is things which the competition has done such as during the VC days when people were complaining about lack of cross-buy that was something which was done with the VCs closest competitor the "psone classics" line on ps3,psp and vita while the ability to buy service games as you mentioned is on gamepass, also ps+ with its legacy content (iirc it was mentioned directly in an article on this site, think it was the kamiya one)
I feel like Nintendo is usually very reliable when it comes to backwards compatibility since a large amount of their consoles and games were backwards compatible with at least one generation though when it comes to things like their legacy content things were a bit spotty.
(also on the subject of classic disney games its a shame the switch wasnt as popular when that afternoon collection came out since that would have been a great fit)
@Banjo- its unfortunate because i do feel like the switch as a concept is the perfect system for me and am looking forward to the successor but as someone who loved the VC (though would have loved to have seen it improved on a newer system) on other systems NSO has been a major disappointment due to the lack of ability to buy the games, especially since even on switch theres been some great examples of purchasable retro games like the arcade archives and sega Ages
at the very least i am happy with not only the stuff i mentioned in the previous post (nightdive, M2 etc) but am happy that we have seen games previously japan only make their way to the west over the past few years whether it be remakes like Live-a-Live, compilation releases like the Marl kingdom one or both like with Trials of mana which had both a remake but also the original game localized for the first time and in the mana collection.
@Banjo- exactly. again while digital itself can have its flaws (to put it lightly) its still a lot less volatile than service based, its also why im glad microsoft backpeddled on their original plan for xbox one where it seemed like the games would have needed to periodically perform an online check to access even if the console was set as your primary (though from what i gather from discussions it feels like people getting a new console and forgetting to set it as their primary is not uncommon)
its similar why i don't really do service based games (FFXIV addiction none-withstanding)
hearing that apparently they were originally going to have something like the VC on switch iirc using the account system that was added midway into the wiiu/3ds lifetime to carry over purchases, just makes the whole situation more disappointing.
Yeah gaming preservation can be a difficult thing filled with format, coding and licencing nightmares it just makes me appreciate the efforts to try and preserve it, especially those that go above and beyond like nightdive in the west or Hamster and M2 in japan among others.
@AllieKitsune This is one of the things i get curious about since it feels in some cases there are tropes in games or media in which it feels like its rarer to see them played straight.
@Doctor-Moo honestly i would love to see classic games on a cartridge especially if well emulated.
look at those M2 collections like the Castlevania ones, something of that quality for first party games would be amazing.
@Bob__Loblaw Yeah it can definitely feel like that with some criticism i think a previous article even mentioned about how PS+ allows people to purchase their games.
Also definitely see those arguments as you mentioned where it feels like rather than arguing against an actual person or point, instead said comment seems to be arguing against some vague amalgamation of various arguments as if they are being said by the same person.
@JohnnyMind Hoping the switch 2 opens the floodgate to more of the series, while some may not find ports exciting these are still games which are new to some and would be nice to have them on a dedicated handheld.
This was one of the main issues i had with not having the option of purchasing the games since as flawed as digital is there is often more "safety-nets" when it comes to delisting, at least with offline games (even in some extreme cases like PT there are still people who are able to play it because its on their system)
Also while you will often see people asking "who cares" with certain games i feel nearly every game is at least someone's favourite game.
@Alexface yeah this is pretty much my ideal situation for a bunch of the older ones, since i still like how a bunch of the older games look (especially the GBA games)
having them purchasable with compatibility with home/bank so we can transfer our pokemon would be great.
(also wouldn't mind seeing a modern day pokemon stadium type game compatible with all pokemon which could open up competitive play, considering the sheer amount of pokemon nowadays)
@Lone_Beagle does make me wonder if any switch games will get "upgrade" patches on switch 2 similar to how 360 games did on later Xbox systems (sonic unleashed was really nice especially in the case of the "jungle joyride" stage)

Xenoblade 2 in particular im hoping can get a boost especially with handheld mode.

im hoping that at most with some of the bigger expansions the price is closer to something like buying DLC of equivalent content.

also curious to see if some backwards compatible games which dont have a dedicated "switch 2" version get enhancement patches similar to some of the backwards compatible games on xbox like sonic unleashed which got a 60fps patch which in something as fast as sonic was a massive improvement especially on this one jungle stage which would chug on previous gen.
though as i mentioned in a prior topic im hoping that running original switch games on switch 2 is kind of like running them on a "pro" console or "new 3ds" in that it smooths out some of the rough edges
Re: Talking Point: Which Switch Game Needs A 'Nintendo Switch 2 Edition' The Most?
@The-Chosen-one
does make me hope theres a base level boost to things like framerate and load times similar to playing games on a "pro" system, not expecting 30fps games to suddenly be 60 since that would need a patch but hoping they can hit their target easier.
Re: Talking Point: Which Switch Game Needs A 'Nintendo Switch 2 Edition' The Most?
@RupeeClock
Definitely felt like they improved with each game, especially in handheld mode 2 was extremely messy both visuals and performance wise with DE having its moments of lower resolution and some frame drops but much better, further improving with 3 and with X it feels like the best the franchise has ever looked in handheld mode and feels generally even more stable than DE and 3.
interested to see what kind of magic they work with the switch 2 over its lifetime.
Re: 'RAIDOU Remastered' Brings ATLUS' PS2 Supernatural RPG To Switch This June
@Ralizah
yeah its unfortunate that it turned out as it was considering how great nocturne is.
Re: Sony's Back On Switch With A Delightful New PSP Remaster
@SlackerArtist
Wild arms is a personal pipe dream of mine (especially the original 3 as a trilogy release) but yeah ape escape was amazing and i loved how creative those games got with the analogue stick controls.
Re: Nintendo Announces 'Virtual Game Cards' For Switch, Unlocking Digital Lending
@T0mizawa
thankyou that clears a lot of things up.
Re: 'RAIDOU Remastered' Brings ATLUS' PS2 Supernatural RPG To Switch This June
@Ralizah
think DDS was my introduction to the Megaten series as a whole (then played nocturne/lucifers call: featuring dante from the devil may cryTM series)
remember being super exited for DDS2s european release after getting super into the first.
I am hoping that it doesnt run into some of the issues that nocturne did on switch but i imagine when they get round to DDS the switch 2 would have been out for a while so maybe that would improve things even if the port ends up similar.
Re: Nintendo Announces 'Virtual Game Cards' For Switch, Unlocking Digital Lending
@Kiz3000
one thing im curious about is things such as online checks, since one of the things about a primary system is the advantage of not needing to use the internet in order to access your games. (basically as long as your system is registered as primary you can play digital offline on any user on that system for as long as you want iirc)
The video showing the account though did mention that online is only needed when loading or ejecting so i assume that you can still stay offline as long as the game is on your system
Re: Ex-Nintendo Duo Unsure Mario Kart 9 Will Be An Instant "Slam Dunk" For Switch 2
Re: Atelier Yumia Update Intends To Address Optimisation On "Some Platforms"
@Ulysses
yeah this is one of the things im waiting to see with this game.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's SNES Library With Four More Titles
@Andy_Witmyer
Honestly for me the only disappointment is more to do with NSO not allowing for game purchases to keep the games.
otherwise would buy the heck out of them, heard a lot about Romance of the 3 kingdoms and Nobunaga's ambition, new horizons sounds neat though though i think lord of darkness is the only one i haven't really heard of.
Re: Reminder: Nintendo Is Removing A Switch Online SNES Game Next Week
@Sarkos
Sadly licencing can be very volatile and yeah im in a similar situation where this isnt a game which interests me but every game is at least someone's favourite so its always unfortunate to see something delisted.
@EarthboundBenjy
Also being that its NSO rather than eshop it being delisted means its outright becoming unplayable where's with eshop games people could at least scramble to purchase the game before its gone in order to still play it.
Re: Opinion: Nintendo, Let Us Buy The Games Being Delisted From Switch Online
@Banjo-
Hey no fret about late replies, often it can be good for ones mental health to take a break from online related stuff.
Re: Reminder: Nintendo Is Removing A Switch Online SNES Game Next Week
@Inc
Thats why i wish there was the option to purchase/keep games (similar to ps+ and iirc gamepass) since it would at least offer some form of contingency plan against delisting's.
Re: A Hidden 60fps Mode In Xenoblade Chronicles X Gives Us Hope For A Switch 2 Upgrade
@Zyph
mentioned it in other discussions about this but curious to see if games will have performance issues smoothed out across the board through virtue of improved hardware , as you mentioned in a similar way to a pro console or running a game on a more powerful PC,
an example would be something like dragon quest builders 2 which targets 60fps, the keyword being "targets", it ends up only really hitting it in places where not much is built and when you start going for larger, more elaborate builds it starts to chug hard.
naturally raising a capped framerate would need a patch or support already in the game but if running games on switch 2 would mean their framerate is more stable then it would be great news for certain games. (i imagine load time could also be improved for example im still playing the ps4 version of FFXIV on ps5 but its load times are significantly faster through virtue of having an SSD)
apologies if somewhat rambling.
Re: Star Wars: Hunters Servers To Close Later This Year
@GrailUK
Re: Review: Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist Of Memories & The Envisioned Land (Switch) - A Bold New Direction That Strains The Switch
@gcunit
yeah im really curious and hoping that there's some form of boost to older games to help stabilize them (or even select games getting patched to take advantage of it like how some backwards compatible 360 games got on xbox one, an example being sonic unleashed running at 60fps on it)
Re: Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters Land New Update As Series Passes 200 Million Sales
@JohnnyMind
definitely a lot to look forward to, will be interesting to see the evolution of mechanics and the like, the second game was an oddity in that it was closer to what the SaGa series would become in terms of character progression.
VI is definitely a fan favorite and i can see why though ny far my personal fave of the original 6 games is FFV, it had a job system which also paved the way for the job systems in games like the bravely default and octopath series.
Re: New Nintendo Patent Hints At Improved Voice Chat On Switch 2
Im hoping mic usage on the system will be more for things like this and not those "blow into the mic" mechanics which felt like they were everywhere for a while on Nintendo systems. (or at the very least make them optional)
@iLikeUrAttitude
with switch it was frustrating that they made capturing screenshots easier but also made the act of sharing them much more annoying since there was no messaging or sharing between friends which was made worse by the fact that wiiu had not only sharing with friends but also had the likes of miiverse.
@Vyacheslav333
it can feel like a lot of the time when it comes to online stuff that it can feel like one step forward and 2 steps back in a lot of ways, like we finally got an account system meaning purchases are no longer tied to your console but can no longer purchase legacy content like with wii and wiiu.
Re: Switch 2 Filings Show Support For Wi-Fi 6
@GrailUK
only if you are super into the timeline.
Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection 2.0 Update
@AG_Awesome
yeah thats been one of the things ive been curious about with switch 2, while im also hoping that there's some form of "boost" to games even without a patch so games can hit their target framerate/resolution easier, im hoping that some games that were capped at 30 on switch such as this can get a patch to increase said cap.
@StarPoint
Does make me wish it was a case of porting too since iirc wasn't that the case with the HD collection on 360/ps3 which seemed to run a lot better on weaker hardware vs this modern collection.
Re: Opinion: Nintendo, Let Us Buy The Games Being Delisted From Switch Online
@Banjo-
The kingdom hearts games being cloud versions stung, i could understand somewhat with 3 but 1.5 and 2.5 were on ps3, it definitely felt like square wanted them on the eshop in some form quickly to coincide with sora in smash but i would gladly have waited for a proper port of the originals.
Re: Opinion: Nintendo, Let Us Buy The Games Being Delisted From Switch Online
@Banjo-
its unfortunate because i do feel like the switch as a concept is the perfect system for me and am looking forward to the successor but as someone who loved the VC (though would have loved to have seen it improved on a newer system) on other systems NSO has been a major disappointment due to the lack of ability to buy the games, especially since even on switch theres been some great examples of purchasable retro games like the arcade archives and sega Ages
at the very least i am happy with not only the stuff i mentioned in the previous post (nightdive, M2 etc) but am happy that we have seen games previously japan only make their way to the west over the past few years whether it be remakes like Live-a-Live, compilation releases like the Marl kingdom one or both like with Trials of mana which had both a remake but also the original game localized for the first time and in the mana collection.
Re: Review: Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster (Switch) - Two Of The PS1's Best RPGs Beautifully Preserved, For The Most Part
In terms of the translation fixes im curious to see if the names of 2 plot relevant swords are fixed also i imagine the honking cat no longer honks.
Re: Opinion: Nintendo, Let Us Buy The Games Being Delisted From Switch Online
@Banjo-
exactly.
again while digital itself can have its flaws (to put it lightly) its still a lot less volatile than service based, its also why im glad microsoft backpeddled on their original plan for xbox one where it seemed like the games would have needed to periodically perform an online check to access even if the console was set as your primary (though from what i gather from discussions it feels like people getting a new console and forgetting to set it as their primary is not uncommon)
its similar why i don't really do service based games (FFXIV addiction none-withstanding)
hearing that apparently they were originally going to have something like the VC on switch iirc using the account system that was added midway into the wiiu/3ds lifetime to carry over purchases, just makes the whole situation more disappointing.
Yeah gaming preservation can be a difficult thing filled with format, coding and licencing nightmares it just makes me appreciate the efforts to try and preserve it, especially those that go above and beyond like nightdive in the west or Hamster and M2 in japan among others.
Re: Hamster's Arcade Archives Celebrates Eight Years Of Switch eShop Releases
Im still hoping that someday the "console archives" trademark that Hamster filed a while back ends up becoming a reality.
The idea of having console game re-releases with this level of love and quality would be amazing.
Re: Review: Everhood 2 (Switch) - A Subversive, Surprising Yet Shallow Undertale-Inspired RPG
@AllieKitsune
This is one of the things i get curious about since it feels in some cases there are tropes in games or media in which it feels like its rarer to see them played straight.
Re: Opinion: Nintendo, Let Us Buy The Games Being Delisted From Switch Online
@Doctor-Moo
honestly i would love to see classic games on a cartridge especially if well emulated.
look at those M2 collections like the Castlevania ones, something of that quality for first party games would be amazing.
@Bob__Loblaw
Yeah it can definitely feel like that with some criticism i think a previous article even mentioned about how PS+ allows people to purchase their games.
Also definitely see those arguments as you mentioned where it feels like rather than arguing against an actual person or point, instead said comment seems to be arguing against some vague amalgamation of various arguments as if they are being said by the same person.
Re: Japanese Charts: Donkey Kong Can't Keep Up With Like A Dragon's Ship-Shape Debut
@JohnnyMind
Hoping the switch 2 opens the floodgate to more of the series, while some may not find ports exciting these are still games which are new to some and would be nice to have them on a dedicated handheld.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Removal Of Switch Online SNES Game
This was one of the main issues i had with not having the option of purchasing the games since as flawed as digital is there is often more "safety-nets" when it comes to delisting, at least with offline games (even in some extreme cases like PT there are still people who are able to play it because its on their system)
Also while you will often see people asking "who cares" with certain games i feel nearly every game is at least someone's favourite game.
Re: Poll: Which Pokémon Game Really Deserves A Remake Next?
@Alexface
yeah this is pretty much my ideal situation for a bunch of the older ones, since i still like how a bunch of the older games look (especially the GBA games)
having them purchasable with compatibility with home/bank so we can transfer our pokemon would be great.
(also wouldn't mind seeing a modern day pokemon stadium type game compatible with all pokemon which could open up competitive play, considering the sheer amount of pokemon nowadays)
Re: Hands On: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition - A Decade On, Mira's Still Got It
@Lone_Beagle
does make me wonder if any switch games will get "upgrade" patches on switch 2 similar to how 360 games did on later Xbox systems (sonic unleashed was really nice especially in the case of the "jungle joyride" stage)
