ive always hoped for a "definitive" version of phantasia the west given that its the first tales and has significance for the series.
While abyss is one of my all time fave games in the series i do hope that a remaster turns out well if on switch since the series has had a somewhat mixed history on switch, Vesperia was decent outside of some stuttering when exploring and some crash issues. Symphonia introduced issues which werent in prior versions, and graces has combat running at half the framerate alongside apparently some input lag which in a game with combat as fast paced and snappy as Graces is frustrating.
That being said with switch 2 maybe with the power gap being closed a bit will compensate somewhat if the optimisation isnt quite there.
But yeah would also be nice if we saw some of the games which never made it west prior like rebirth or destiny DC/2
@GameOtaku for me at the very least it does feel like were in a pretty good place when it comes to retro compilations and remasters and while we get some not so great ones theres also companies like M2 and nightdive doing amazing work when it comes to legacy content.
Does make we wish that we got something to the same standard as those konami M2 compilations (such as the castlevania ones) only with some of nintendos IPs, i know i would buy the heck out of a Kirby or Mario collection with that kind of quality.
At the very least i would love some basic communication and social options since with the switch there wasnt even the ability to message or share screenshots with friends.
The wii version i kind of had the same issue which i had with a lot of wii games in that if you dont like motion controls (or have trouble using them) then you are straight out of luck.
@Nintendoid720 Yeah i found the touch controls worked very well for me and i dont usually use them that often but it was nice that they were optional since it meant you could pick and choose when to use them, for me i fount them good for getting off abilities like the bomb in combat (something i remember having trouble with on wii)
@MrCarlos46 yeah jokes aside it did sound like it was right at home with the wii and its "channels" and certainly wouldn't be against stuff like that on switch 2
as neat as a maker mode would be i would prefer that as its own dedicated game like Mario maker with more options.
i certainly wouldn't say no to a "story mode" hub thing, especially since CTR back on psone is probably still my fave single player kart experience (alongside DKR)
@Bobb
yeah while fortunately games releasing worldwide is more common i still never want to go back to the days of region locking, it was bad enough in the wiiu/3ds days when not only did the wiiu still have region lock at an era where other systems were abandoning it, but the 3ds also was region locked which was very rare for a handheld.
its one of the things from the past i never wanted to see return in modern gaming (alongside the the whole PAL/NTSC tv signal thing)
im hoping its just the payment thing since at the very least that can be circumvented with eshop cards
@Sylamp yeah as much as i dream of seeing a Mega man legends(plus tron bonne) legacy collection or Breath of fire collection it feels those kinds of things are more often announced via nintendo direct (similar to the konami collections)
one of the issues i have heared with the switch version (aside from it running at 30fps in combat wheres the ps3 and even wii version ran at 60) is that theres also additional input lag (which looks visibly noticeable) which in a game where on higher difficulties things such as last second dodges and the like are vital in order to keep combos going and avoid damage sounds like it could be a major issue.
curious if its related to the framerate being lower than the original since some older games would still tie things like game logic to the framerate, hopefully it is something that can be fixed via a patch especially considering the combat is a major highlight of this.
@RenanKJ
Yeah i feel if anything having regular controllers and hardware lead to nintendo going a bit more out of its own comfort zone when it came to games, with many franchises having their first shake up in years, even with past games on wii and wiiu like Mario Galaxy i felt like the biggest innovations were aspects which would have worked even with a normal controller, things like the gravity elements, if anything for me the motion controlled segments were my least favorite parts.
plus we had the first mainline 2d mario game in nearly 20 years which wasnt part of the "new" super mario bros series, and while it still had elements of those games it felt like a step in the right direction.
For me when it comes to "how" a game is played ideally it should be an aspect which the player has a good degree of control over which for the most part the switch does really well. For some its a matter of comfort but for others it can literaly be the difference on whether a game is playable or not (i feel the article a while back about a disabled gamer going to all these efforts to be able to play mario galaxy sums that up)
plus even with a more "normal" controller it doesnt rule out experimental stuff, as mentioned in other topics we still got stuff like labo, ring fit adventure, mario kart live tour etc
but yeah, i do feel like the term "innovation" has become associated largely with the physical side o hardware, when just as much, if not more innovations can take place inside the system and especially within the games themselves.
@AstroTheGamosian ah ty. i do remember that dub being the one i saw on TV and it wasnt until years later i found out just how much was changed.
its nice that the newer more accurate ones are available. iirc didn't that also happen with some 4kids dubs (newer more accurate ones, i think one piece was one of them)
@AstroTheGamosian
was that the same dub which also changed the gender of one of its characters since they were a gay man in the original japanese (and i think later dubs) but refered to as a woman in an older dub.
@JohnnyMind Yeah it sucks to see a game cancelled regardless if it was one i was interested in or not, though like you mentioned at least there doesn't seem to be any really bad blood regarding it.
@AmplifyMJ I think i understand that feeling (or one similar), sometimes you just aren't feeling a game even when you feel like you should and it can be even more noticeable when there's a lot of hype surrounding it, for me i couldn't really get into Undertale despite enjoying a lot of the games which inspired it.
@garfreek heck yeah Blinx! i never got to play it sadly since i didnt have an xbox but saw a friend playing through some of both of the games, iirc in the second one you didnt play as blinx but you got to make your own custom time cat (and make them look super silly if you wanted) you also played as a group of the antagonists in that one.
the game had that Dreamcast-era sega vibe to it, i think at least one of the people behind sonic were involved.
TBH i would buy a HD remaster of those games especially if they came to switch.
in terms of Banjo Kazooie i think i found the exploration/collectathon elements of those games more enjoyable than Mario but did preffer the more technical momentum based platforming in Mario games.
the original game is still one of my all time fave platformers, i played it a while back (XBLA version) and still loved it.
Curious to see how it turns out and how courses are designed around it.
The amount is just short of F zero X (and GX iirc) but those didnt have powerups flying about so i imagine there will be some balancing in that regard around them.
The most important question though is will Baby park be in this.
@contractcooker Yeah, just look at the review for previous wii conversion "kirbys return to dreamland deluxe" it got a 9/10 which i feel is fitting since that remaster felt like it went above and beyond in a lot of places alongside being a great version of the game wheres with this from the looks of it feels like its largely the same, and while being able to play the console version without having to use the waggle controls feels like a massive bonus for me it also sounds like theres a bunch of minor visual/performance issues which can add up to making it just not feel quite as good as it could.
@nhSnork i feel like sega ages and arcade archives if anything are a massive improvement over virtual console, does make me hope that the "console archives" trademark hamster made a while back results in something.
i would say the only flaws with ACA and sega ages is that they dont really cover Nintendo games (outside of some exceptions) since i would love to see something along those lines (or the amazing collections M2 have put out) applied to nintendos legacy content.
@Inc iirc only the wii had the games tied to the system since nintendo didnt have an account system with it wheres they added one eventually on wiiu and 3ds.
Even so i find hardware itself more reliable than how volatile licencing issues can be, there are still a large amount of games released on virtual console not available on NSO and a few not even available on switch at all, the subscription-only model also introduces further issue if games are ever delisted since it means even those who have them downloaded or on their account cannot access them anymore.
Digital still has its flaws and companies have a long way to go when it comes to preservation and/or future proofing (i feel like what GOG does is a massive step in the right direction and wish consoles would move closer towards that model) but i feel service models introduce their own issues on top of it.
That being said i am not opposed to the service model existing since it obviously works for a lot of people, i just wish there were other ways to play a lot of these games, and in some ways it is a blessing in disguise since it has opened the gates to things like the amazing castlevania collections we have lately and would have loved to see some of nintendos properties get that kind of treatment.
For a second i thought the "wii port" people were mentioning was Tales of Graces (since it came out on wii first though the ps3 "F" version has a lot of extra content)
I do hope that the switch version of Graces F still keeps 60fps in battle since iirc even the wii version had that and its a game where things like last-second dodges are vital especially on harder difficulties.
if the port turns out well im 100% picking it up on switch, it has one of my fave Tales combat systems alongside lots of things to do.
@JohnnyMind
was there any mention of other changes, the typeA/B thing doesnt bother me personally because its still functionally the same and nothing was removed but am hoping that nothing was changed function wise or options removed etc even if minor.
Edit: in terms of character voices they actually added back in options which were removed in the western vita release iirc.
@MirrorFate2 i know of the issues with DX but curious what issues were with battle (i did play both dreamcase and GC versions of both but have forgotten a lot about battles differences)
would be cool if both of them got "definitive" versions, having both of them based on the ports kind of feels like my issues with FFVII and VIII on modern systems being based off the PC releases which had some issues (alongside new issues)
@somnambulance For me with FFXV i think it was one of those games which i enjoyed it for what it was but its troubled development definitely showed, it had a massive amount of pre launch hype too and for me i would have loved to have seen more of its world (Tenabrae in the final game was one of the biggest teases ive seen)
from what i gather remake did also have some trouble during development and in its case i imagine splitting the game into parts did help since when rebirth came around it definitely gave the impression of being more confident. im definitely curious to see what they have in store for part 3 (FFVII:revengence) maybe..(SPOILERS FOR ORIGINAL GAME) the weapons being awakened and causing havoc will result in more changes to the world in this (there were some holes and whatnot in the environment in the original)
@marandahir FFVII remake and rebirth are 2 of the games i would love to see make it to "switch 2" (along with the third game) since they were the most fun ive had with single player FF in years and out of all the ones with real time combat i found it handled it the best by adding ATB mechanics and the like rather than being pure hack-n-slash.
@Classic603 yeah 4 heroes of light is definitely something i would love to see remastered.
@somnambulance Honestly the one thing from the past i did feel was missing during the post 12 years which i felt FFVII rebirth nailed was the towns and having the world feel more lived-in, with XV and XVI the world kind of felt more like a backdrop and a lot of places you didnt get to visit wheres rebirth was full of towns with things to do in them and buildings to enter.
@WhiteTrashGuy am glad to see FFV get some love though with that one i would love to see a remake stay closer to the original though also maybe add some new jobs kind of like how the GBA one did and bring back a bonus dungeon full of bosses kind of like that one.
Honestly at this point I'm really hoping that it ends up being a new "switch" since the switch is the only one out of the big 3 console manufacturers' which offers the ability to play handheld without needing wi-fi or streaming and with sony unlikely to release a successor to the vita any time soon and the only other similar devices being more like portable PCs the switch already offers something unique, the only issue i really have with it is the hardware is really showing its age, a new switch that can play more games (alongside games from the original system) sounds ideal for me.
@Kidfunkadelic83 @roy130390 yeah thats my big hope too.
i feel like as a concept the switch is pretty much perfect so a more powerful system which can play more games would be ideal for me and if anything im hoping for more improvements on the "inside" such as improved button remapping or other such options and an improved eshop (with music!)
plus the switch being more "normal" as a system didnt stop them from experimenting with things like labo, mario kart live tour and ring fit and first party games ended up having some really refreshing entries.
It is really neat seeing this come to the west after all these years.
though on the subject of Ys i am hoping that the switch port of Memories of Celceta makes its way west (played through it on vita and it was a lot of fun)
@8bitKirby It can depend if the services offer other ways to play the games, for example gamepass and PS+ also have the games available to purchase so you can keep them if you want to wheres NSO there is no way to purchase the games meaning access is dependant on an online check, at least if you want to play officially.
for me i would love to see some of their prior games on switch like Dragons crown, Odin sphere (especially the remake which included the original) Muramasa etc.
@jesse_dylan does make me curious if this is some kind of huge overcorrection to letting those games flood the eshop (will have to see if they still keep coming over the next few months) despite the main complaint of those kinds of games being more that they were emblematic of larger problems with the eshop.
@jesse_dylan wasnt the issue that these were specifically cancelled on switch, same with how some of the costume DLC to an upcoming one was cancelled specifically for the switch release but not the playstation version.
@mohok I think some of the impressions were also from early japanese versions of the game (pre-patch) though i would assume that a theoretical western release would have said patches already included.
@Arawn93 Thats what is confusing me, and while i imagine none of these "hentai" games actually have any H-scenes the stuff in them neither do the Nep games (iirc most of them are T-rated) i havent played Death end so i cant speak for that but did play some of the Neptunia games on vita.
The game has a lot going for it but the switch version definitely has some issues such as the long load times and other performance issues (and apparently some crashes)
Those are the things I'm most curious to see if they are addressed in any way or whether the "switch 2" will offer performance/load time boost similar to playing a ps4 game on ps5.
@mjhopkins81 yeah i feel like games such as phantasia, eternia, Destiny etc still hold up pretty well visually (outside of maybe the world map in destiny) plus with tales of destiny i feel the original and remake/DC are enough of a different experience that both versions would be viable.
plus there hasnt really been a "definitive" release of phantasia in the west, just the GBA one and that other one which everyone including namco wants to forget.
iirc the version contained in NDX on psp was considered the "best" version of phantasia so it would be cool to see that one released in the west on switch and whatnot.
@Lightgazer yeah looking at the footage of the games the performance seems pretty damn heinous. its odd since weren't these ones the vita games and i remember them running pretty well on that.
@Ironcore yeah would be really cool if there were games which got patched to run better on switch 2 though i would love to see a system level boost feature so games which had performance issues could at least hit their target framerate easier (similar to running 3ds games on "new 3ds" or ps4 games on ps5)
@NFrealinkling im in the "very cautious optimism" state at this point, i imagine you remember the "NX" days...
"there were things like the infamous patent "leak" where someone had made an alleged "nx" controller based on some patent that had been dug up, (im glad that one ended up false, touchscreen buttons lack the feedback physical ones have)
Then later there were a bunch of leaks which mentioned it would be a handheld with detachable controllers and would be about combining nintendos handheld and console markets, these ones did end up very close to what the "NX" would actually be, with some being dead on.
a lot of the aleged" switch 2" leaks do seem to have more to back them up such as shipping information and the 2022 Nvidia leak but like you mentioned they are still rumours.
@somnambulance
looking at the article it had been updated since with the press release which has it as "successor" i think the "switch next model" thing was a translation from a results call.
at this point im hoping things like the factory leak ends up right and it ends up being a direct follow up to the switch rather than something outright different especially considering the switch occupies a specific part of the market which the other major console manufacturers do not.
its one of the reasons why im hoping for a reveal more than the actual release just to clarify what the thing is.
@Rayquaza2510 with the wiiu it felt like a massive combination of factors with things like the trailer focusing almost exclusively on the controller with the console itself hidden in the background along with them repeatedly using the term "the new controller" and the games being shown being based on wii games.
Though i feel like in the end it was more just that the concept didnt really appeal to a lot of people, and that a lot of the marketing was targeting an audience which had long moved on.
With the switch however it still feels like it was a win from the get-go with the trailer showcasing exactly what the system was all about and the "gimmick" of the system felt simple and unintrusive compared to the wiiu where it kind of felt like it was throwing all these different ideas and features at the wall.
it also feels like the switch had a lot of staying power, even in a world where steam deck and other portable PC-like devices exist the system still has a decent amount of buzz around it and it feels like unlike with the wiiu even more eyes are on what nintendo will do next and the whole idea of a new more powerful switch that plays more games does seem like it would appeal to a lot of people and an easy concept to grasp even with those not in the gaming space (since phones and the like do it)
In short it doesnt feel like theres much to worry about when it comes to the idea of a "switch 2" succeeding or not.
@Fighting_Game_Loser ah yes i forgot about yokai watch, would love to see 2 on the switch since that was a fave, it had such a cozy vibe, i loved the additional towns you visited such as the seaside one.
@Fighting_Game_Loser exactly! while i did also love triple deluxe kirby planet robobot is pretty much THE most wanted 3ds port for me (second would probably be bravely default/second)

For me with FFXV i think it was one of those games which i enjoyed it for what it was but its troubled development definitely showed, it had a massive amount of pre launch hype too and for me i would have loved to have seen more of its world (Tenabrae in the final game was one of the biggest teases ive seen)
from what i gather remake did also have some trouble during development and in its case i imagine splitting the game into parts did help since when rebirth came around it definitely gave the impression of being more confident. im definitely curious to see what they have in store for part 3 (FFVII:revengence) maybe..(SPOILERS FOR ORIGINAL GAME) the weapons being awakened and causing havoc will result in more changes to the world in this (there were some holes and whatnot in the environment in the original)
Re: Final Fantasy Team Wants To Hear Your Thoughts About The Series
@marandahir
FFVII remake and rebirth are 2 of the games i would love to see make it to "switch 2" (along with the third game) since they were the most fun ive had with single player FF in years and out of all the ones with real time combat i found it handled it the best by adding ATB mechanics and the like rather than being pure hack-n-slash.
@Classic603
yeah 4 heroes of light is definitely something i would love to see remastered.
@somnambulance
Honestly the one thing from the past i did feel was missing during the post 12 years which i felt FFVII rebirth nailed was the towns and having the world feel more lived-in, with XV and XVI the world kind of felt more like a backdrop and a lot of places you didnt get to visit wheres rebirth was full of towns with things to do in them and buildings to enter.
@WhiteTrashGuy
am glad to see FFV get some love though with that one i would love to see a remake stay closer to the original though also maybe add some new jobs kind of like how the GBA one did and bring back a bonus dungeon full of bosses kind of like that one.
Re: PSA: Switch 2 Is Getting Revealed In The Next 100 Days
Honestly at this point I'm really hoping that it ends up being a new "switch" since the switch is the only one out of the big 3 console manufacturers' which offers the ability to play handheld without needing wi-fi or streaming and with sony unlikely to release a successor to the vita any time soon and the only other similar devices being more like portable PCs the switch already offers something unique, the only issue i really have with it is the hardware is really showing its age, a new switch that can play more games (alongside games from the original system) sounds ideal for me.
Re: Those Switch 2 Leaks "Might Be Legit" According To A New Report
@Kidfunkadelic83 @roy130390
yeah thats my big hope too.
i feel like as a concept the switch is pretty much perfect so a more powerful system which can play more games would be ideal for me and if anything im hoping for more improvements on the "inside" such as improved button remapping or other such options and an improved eshop (with music!)
plus the switch being more "normal" as a system didnt stop them from experimenting with things like labo, mario kart live tour and ring fit and first party games ended up having some really refreshing entries.
Re: 'Ys vs. Trails In The Sky: Alternative Saga' Announced For Switch, Coming 2025
It is really neat seeing this come to the west after all these years.
though on the subject of Ys i am hoping that the switch port of Memories of Celceta makes its way west (played through it on vita and it was a lot of fun)
Re: Don't Expect Any More Miniature Consoles From Sega
@Flashlink99
honestly i would prefer that over the games being exclusive to some subscription service.
Re: Sega Is "Evaluating" Its Own Netflix-Style Subscription Service
@8bitKirby
It can depend if the services offer other ways to play the games, for example gamepass and PS+ also have the games available to purchase so you can keep them if you want to wheres NSO there is no way to purchase the games meaning access is dependant on an online check, at least if you want to play officially.
Re: Sorry, But There Are "Currently No Plans" For A Unicorn Overlord Sequel Or DLC
for me i would love to see some of their prior games on switch like Dragons crown, Odin sphere (especially the remake which included the original) Muramasa etc.
Re: Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Remake Lands On Switch Fall 2025
@darkswabber
In japan the sky trilogy was on PC first, it was the crossbell games which were PSP exclusives initially.
Re: 'Hyperdimension Neptunia' & 'Death End' Switch Releases Scrapped For "Not Complying With Nintendo Guidelines"
@jesse_dylan
does make me curious if this is some kind of huge overcorrection to letting those games flood the eshop (will have to see if they still keep coming over the next few months) despite the main complaint of those kinds of games being more that they were emblematic of larger problems with the eshop.
Re: 'Hyperdimension Neptunia' & 'Death End' Switch Releases Scrapped For "Not Complying With Nintendo Guidelines"
@jesse_dylan
wasnt the issue that these were specifically cancelled on switch, same with how some of the costume DLC to an upcoming one was cancelled specifically for the switch release but not the playstation version.
Re: 'Hyperdimension Neptunia' & 'Death End' Switch Releases Scrapped For "Not Complying With Nintendo Guidelines"
@mohok
I think some of the impressions were also from early japanese versions of the game (pre-patch) though i would assume that a theoretical western release would have said patches already included.
@Arawn93
Thats what is confusing me, and while i imagine none of these "hentai" games actually have any H-scenes the stuff in them neither do the Nep games (iirc most of them are T-rated) i havent played Death end so i cant speak for that but did play some of the Neptunia games on vita.
Re: Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge Of The Seven Lands New Switch Update, Here Are The Patch Notes
Re: Bandai Namco Promises To Release Tales Remasters "Fairly Consistently"
@mjhopkins81
yeah i feel like games such as phantasia, eternia, Destiny etc still hold up pretty well visually (outside of maybe the world map in destiny) plus with tales of destiny i feel the original and remake/DC are enough of a different experience that both versions would be viable.
plus there hasnt really been a "definitive" release of phantasia in the west, just the GBA one and that other one which everyone including namco wants to forget.
iirc the version contained in NDX on psp was considered the "best" version of phantasia so it would be cool to see that one released in the west on switch and whatnot.
Re: 'Hyperdimension Neptunia' & 'Death End' Switch Releases Scrapped For "Not Complying With Nintendo Guidelines"
@Lightgazer
yeah looking at the footage of the games the performance seems pretty damn heinous. its odd since weren't these ones the vita games and i remember them running pretty well on that.
Re: 'Hyperdimension Neptunia' & 'Death End' Switch Releases Scrapped For "Not Complying With Nintendo Guidelines"
Does seem odd considering all the stuff you see being shovelled on the eshop that these would be canceled.
Though in the case of the nep trilogy the most offensive thing about those seems to be the switch performance.
Re: Reaction: The Game Awards Left Us With One Big Question: Will Any Of This Run On Switch 2?
@Ironcore
yeah would be really cool if there were games which got patched to run better on switch 2 though i would love to see a system level boost feature so games which had performance issues could at least hit their target framerate easier (similar to running 3ds games on "new 3ds" or ps4 games on ps5)
Re: Eagle-Eyed Fans Think They've Spotted The First 'Switch 2' Image In New Satisfye Trailer
@NFrealinkling
im in the "very cautious optimism" state at this point, i imagine you remember the "NX" days...
Re: Eagle-Eyed Fans Think They've Spotted The First 'Switch 2' Image In New Satisfye Trailer
@somnambulance
looking at the article it had been updated since with the press release which has it as "successor" i think the "switch next model" thing was a translation from a results call.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2024/05/nintendo-switch-successor-announcement-is-coming-this-fiscal-year
at this point im hoping things like the factory leak ends up right and it ends up being a direct follow up to the switch rather than something outright different especially considering the switch occupies a specific part of the market which the other major console manufacturers do not.
its one of the reasons why im hoping for a reveal more than the actual release just to clarify what the thing is.
Re: Eagle-Eyed Fans Think They've Spotted The First 'Switch 2' Image In New Satisfye Trailer
@Rayquaza2510
with the wiiu it felt like a massive combination of factors with things like the trailer focusing almost exclusively on the controller with the console itself hidden in the background along with them repeatedly using the term "the new controller" and the games being shown being based on wii games.
Re: Eagle-Eyed Fans Think They've Spotted The First 'Switch 2' Image In New Satisfye Trailer
@somnambulance
to be fair it being referred to as "next model switch" is one of the few pieces of official info we do have.
EDIT:looking at the article from way back (linked in another post) it seems it was updated to "switch successor"
Re: Rumour: One Of Kirby's 3DS Titles Will Return Next Year, It's Claimed
@Fighting_Game_Loser
ah yes i forgot about yokai watch, would love to see 2 on the switch since that was a fave, it had such a cozy vibe, i loved the additional towns you visited such as the seaside one.
Re: Rumour: One Of Kirby's 3DS Titles Will Return Next Year, It's Claimed
@Fighting_Game_Loser
exactly!
while i did also love triple deluxe kirby planet robobot is pretty much THE most wanted 3ds port for me (second would probably be bravely default/second)
