Re: Nintendo Confirms Its Plans to Switch Things Up at San Diego Comic-Con

Luna_110

I saw the news on the main page, read "Bowser" and guessed that Thomas had written the article.... I wasn't wrong.

Anyway, ignoring the little puns with Bowser, its nice to see Nintendo is bothering to do a good marketing campaign this time. Comic Con is a huge event, and will be a great event to promote the Switch and a heavy hitter such as Mario Odyssey.

Re: Nintendo Unveils Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Dual Pack and Fan Editions

Luna_110

Nope. I've been learning my lesson - Special editions nowadays are nothing but glorified cash grabs. Fire Emblem Fates was the breaking point for me - I barely check the art book, and I was stressed trying to get preorder one and they were so expensive that there were units avaliable one or two months down the road.

I cancelled my Zelda BoTW special edition due to the same - and its still available at my local store due to price.

I'll stick to the normal edition, which shouldn't be so much of a cash grab (considering this is the third version of the games, of course).

Re: Netflix Renews Castlevania Series For A Second, Longer Season

Luna_110

I loved it, and I can't wait for season 2! There was profanity, but not anything you couldn't handle if you play modern games.

Gore? Go brush up your history on the real Vlad Dracul. The forest of the impaled did exist, and was far more graphical than anything in this series. He was known as a brutal commander, so I don't expect his Castlevania counterpart to be all roses and sunshine. If anything, the last Iga games were a bit toned down to appeal to a bigger audience.

Corrupt bishops? We're talking about Middle Ages church. The guys who sold indulgences to any who could pay? The time where Popes were puppets to families in power? The time of the crusaders? Don't expect nice bishops like you can find nowadays. Those are from modern times.

Re: Oddworld Creator Lorne Lanning "Has No Faith" In Switch

Luna_110

His sense of tact is awful and it will cause him problems.
As for support, considering other indies have said other things, this seems like a grudge for his late port not selling.
Marketing should be shared between the dev and the eshop, so if he expected people would just flock to it, he doesn't know a thing about business.

Watch him port something late in the Switch's life, bomb, and complain it didn't do as well as those that released at the beginning of the lifespan.

Re: Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima's Approval Rating Grows 10 Percent

Luna_110

@RainbowGazelle
Those games were ready to launch by 2015, which means almost, if not all, those decisions were made by Iwata and NoA's high executives. Even then, Iwata probably didn't make the decision alone, I wouldn't be surprised if they were topics raised by Treehouse, and they got feedback from above on whether or not take those elements out.

As for the UK receiving less localizations tailor made for them? Probably it's a decision based on cost. The U.K. Isn't a market that on its lonesome can compete with the US, so why would they lose money on doing a second localization job when the US localization is completely functional?

Re: Rumour: Porting Steep to the Switch Is Posing a Steep Challenge

Luna_110

What a shame, I'd really love if Steep would come to the Switch since it was one game that had my attention, but it seems the silence this year was telling of this.
I wouldn't be surprised if the port is cancelled without fanfare in the next months, unless Nintendo devs manage to fix the mess. And even then, we may get a buggy mess.

Re: Nintendo Announces Super NES Classic Edition

Luna_110

I'll get this and hope that this I actually finish a Link to the Past. With this, I would have both Nintendo consoles I missed due to being too small.

The problem is that Juegos de Video Latam is going to charge, easily, double the US price for this. Damn them...

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Defends Nintendo's Indie Support and AM2R Policy

Luna_110

@Fath
You're right, but at the end a company has to decide one of the possible scenarios as the most likely one, to define a clear plan to react to it, and in this case, it seems they chosen the scenario to take AM2R as competition, and thus, reacted accordingly.

If they thinked AM2R didn't affect the IP protection or that it wouldn't affect potential sales, they wouldn't have done anything, most likely. But they weighted the options and though that even with the potential backlash (that happened) it was worth it.

Re: Nintendo Switch Sales Surge Past A Million In Japan

Luna_110

A million has been sold and the heavy hitters for Japan still hasn't arrived - Splatoon 2 is next month and Dragon Quest X is in August....
Damn. If Nintendo manages to fix the supply issues, the Switch is going to leave that million mark behind quite quickly!

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Defends Nintendo's Indie Support and AM2R Policy

Luna_110

It doesn't matter that AM2R wasn't monetized, as @Nintendoforlife has brilliantly explained, having a free alternative vs a paid alternative means a a number of potential buyers of M:SR will desist and stick with the free version, losing money for the company. It isn't that hard to get, plus Nintendo simply sent a C&D letter which is standard procedure.

About indies... I would have liked that they dedicated a day in the Treehouse to them. It was the perfect space to show them off instead of repeating games all three days.

And I doubt Animal Crossing mobile will be a fully fledged game like some think. They want people to get hooked on the franchise then drop money for a Switch, that won't happen if they can get their fix in their cellphones.

Re: Nintendo Apologizes for Switch Shortages, Promises an Increase in Production

Luna_110

Here in Chile there were stock problems in March, but they're normal now. You can walk in any store and buy one, stores are even pushing bundles to get people to buy!

The lack of sales isn't due to lack of interest, though. The system is around US$500 (Stupid Juegos de Video Latam....Grr) and games are between US$70-US$80 each, and the system alone is half the average income.

I think that it may get a bigger push in Christmas, but the Wii U did cede a lot of ground to Sony/MS. Plus, the lack of sales from Nintendo also works against them and not having official support isn't nice either.

Re: Video: Unboxing and Testing the New Nintendo 2DS XL

Luna_110

Alex, your videos are amazing. Keep it up!

If I hadn't gotten my Black Friday New 3DS, I think I would have upgraded my OG 3DS to this. It seems well built, and honestly, since I use glasses the 3D effect has never worked really well for me.

Still, I find it interesting that we have to applaud it includes a charger. It should be the minimum!

Re: EA is Focused on Nintendo Switch Portability and "Exploring Other Products"

Luna_110

@NEStalgia
That's the thing - it seems the Frostbite team its ridiculously small and now is focused on adding making Frostbite take advantage of the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X.

The interview, plus a couple of post that I read in NeoGAF seemed to point in the direction that they don't have the manpower to include Vulkan API now, which is one of the things needed to support the Switch. It is supposedly in the drainpipe, to support more modern portables down the road, but it took a backseat.

Plus, the posibility that would have been Frostbite GO, the version developed for portables like the iPad is supposedly also on the backburner....

I'm not that surprised. It's EA. We're talking about the guys that threw Mass Effect to a B-C team (being one of their main franchises) and potentially killing it, while assigning the A team to a new unproven IP.

Re: EA is Focused on Nintendo Switch Portability and "Exploring Other Products"

Luna_110

Basically, we're seeing a Wii situation again... except that, at least this time, EA is trying with their ports. FIFA for Switch looks great.

I won't get it since I'm no videogame sport fan - only care for those that have a RPG mode - but I hope it does well. I still don't have too much hopes for their support, in other interview they practically confirmed that Frostbite's team is so overworked that any possible port or update is out of the question for know, so cero hopes for "modern" games.

If they do bring Plants vs Zombies I'll get that.
