@Ks123 also while I’m always in the consumers column and I applaud the $20 price, I think this is a situation where Team Cherry could easily have charged $30 for this game and, instead, left money on the table.
Regarding the eShop crashing and not allowing users even get to the game’s page, I’m confused, couldn’t you purchase it from the Nintendo website and initiate an install to your Switch? That’s how I would install lots of games on Switch1 to avoid the super slow eShop experience.
I guess the next natural question is whether this is digital only upon launch? Presumably it’ll get a physical release eventually, I hope? Any details or rumors about that coming out of Gamescom?
@JaxonH Gotcha, I appreciate the overview. The hype you all share is infectious so I found a physical copy of Hollow Knight to give it a try. Also kudos should go to any indie publisher who commits to giving a sequel game to backers for free.
Can someone give a high level description what all the fuss is about? There was OG Hollow Knight and now Silksong? I think I’m (respectfully) missing what all the hubbub is about.
@Spider-Kev you mean Splintered Fate? I have a physical preorder placed for the “Deluxe” edition plus Casey Jones dlc with Am*zon. Shows a September 30 release date. There’s also a $100 collector’s edition to nobody’s shock these days lol.
Gosh there’s a lot of TMNT game content in the last few years. Splintered Fate is only just getting a physical release in September and here’s another Turtles game. Is it too early to ask for a physical release for this one too?
There’s the nostalgia I have for this era of games, but really I’ll be preordering and buying this Turok
Trilogy bc it’s a mass market physical edition and not that LRG nonsense. Sad that in this day and age, supporting this release is more about making a statement.
Maybe I’m the only one who is perplexed by this strategy. Castlevania is a pretty big franchise that Konami owns outright so I don’t understand why they don’t keep physical versions in print and instead do these exclusive boutique releases from places like SuperDeluxe and LRG. Like, I can’t walk into a store in the US and buy physical Castlevania games? Why?
@JohnnyMind curious where you have a preorder? Tried searching for preorders in all the usual places (Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, etc) and came up empty handed.
Mostly, I’m dying to see the price difference they set bw the Switch and Switch2 versions…
Got mine during the second push that happened at Walmart on Saturday morning!! 😊 I had my eggs in the Nintendo website invite basket but this worked out even better.
@dabaumer I relate to this SO hard 😩 I regret trading in my GameCube in the worst way bc now to find a mint in box indigo GC that doesn’t cost the same amount as a newborn is impossible. I wish I knew then what I know now. So not worth trading it in for a few bucks off a Wii.
@Party_On_Dude hey just stumbled upon this thread and your posts made me smile. I’m curious, how are you and your dad now 16 years later? Hope all is well!
The people that are rating the Switch 2 Direct less than an 8….are y’all ok?!?! 🤣 lmaooooo
It was fantastic and Nintendo brought it!! The hardware specs are better than I expected. The video and voice chat is finally happening. The first party game reveals looked awesome. GameCube games. Third party support.
There’s no way they could match the energy of the Switch 1 reveal, which was a wild shock about the WiiU. Switch2 is an across the board improvement over the original and I don’t see how this is any different than what the PS5 is to PS4 and the Xbox Series vs the previous one.
You beat me to it. Who exactly is the audience for an Xbox handheld? Especially since there’s no audience for an Xbox home console. The definition of delusion on Microsoft’s part.
None. None. None. Don’t look in the rear view mirror. Switch1 games are already backwards comparable for a reason.
Focus on the future. Games like Pokémon ZA and Metroid Prime 4 should get Switch2 dedicated versions so they can really take advantage of new hardware specs.
Let’s be real, if it’s getting showcased and spotlighted at the big Switch 2 Direct, it’s getting a Switch 2 specific sku. No way Nintendo spends time making a big presentation of it only to not have a Switch 2 specific release.
Ermm…okayyy. What a strange business choice. I’ve seen the page listings on Amazon for a couple weeks now. What’s the thought process behind not actually allowing customers to preorder? Like what is it hurting anyone to give that option??
To be clear, I’m an advocate for preordering for no other reason than it’s practical for me. If something is top of mind, I like to preorder it and forget about it until it arrives. Who has the time to remember to come back again in two months on release day and hope it hasn’t sold out? Just silly.
@EarthboundBenjy I read this quickly as Metroid Prime 4 also and nearly fell over in excitement 😂 I’m happy for anyone who’s excited for this though, and alas the wait continues..
That was quick since we were just talking about this. Physical editions are up on Amazon!! Very similar to the Tomb Raider Remastered Collection from last year, available as a stand alone physical copy or a deluxe with a steel book, art book, etc which looks pretty nice.
@RextheSheep that’s a good point!! Tomb Raider actually got a really pretty deluxe release in the US with a steelbook and physical mini map book. So I’m holding out hope for, if nothing else, just a base game mass market release for Soul Reaver.
@TYRANACLES I’m hopeful that’s the case and it’s sold through Best Buy etc. I’m such a fan of these games and the nostalgia is strong. But yikes that deluxe edition doesn’t look like it’s worth $150 but everyone’s mileage may vary.
@Bunkerneath @JohnnyMind wait, physical releases?? I didn’t even realize they were announced 😩 I don’t order from Limited Run anyway, any word on a mass market release??
I’m excited there’s finally a physical release scheduled for this!
On the flip side, I’m confused. This article went live 5 hours ago and the link already says the deluxe edition is sold out for Switch? It’s a steelbook, some trading cards and a poster lmao just print more. Surely they must have thought there would be fans rubbed the wrong way that they couldn’t get to preorder within 5 hours on a Wednesday afternoon of a work day lol.
Gosh I remember sinking 100+ hours (forgive it’s been 25 years but it felt like 100+ hours) into Skies on Dreamcast and being obsessed with the game. Looking back I’m kicking myself for not picking up the GameCube version, seeing the prices it’s going for these days. I’d be very happy playing a remake with some quality of life improvements or a sequel.
Considering the HD rerelease package only, I give it a 6/10. It’s clearly a phoned in effort to get more Donkey Kong merch out to sell to those visiting Donkey Kong Land in Super Nintendo World.
It’s a great game originally, but the rerelease is just fine and not quite worth the $60 price.
I agree with many, I think Switch 2 will land at $400 US.
I remember being very pleasantly surprised when the Switch was announced at $300. I think Nintendo had to hit that price because coming out of the WiiU they were rebuilding consumer confidence and trust. Today, they’re in a very different and more powerful position with lots of good will and many will easily pay $400. Plus they can lean into 8 years of inflation as the excuse.
Anything higher than $400 they will start to lose the civies, the casual gamers with extra income to burn, families with kids, etc.
Everything looks and feels very safe. I can imagine long time Nintendo fans like me being a bit underwhelmed.
But you know what it did, clearly and cleanly made the point to casual civilians and parents that this is a full sequel, which they failed spectacularly to accomplished with Wii U. So I guess mission accomplished.
Excited to learn more during the Direct and to see games accounted.
@splinters valid point that DKCRHD is a totally inconsequential release for Nintendo and probably its biggest significance is to have more merch to sell families after they leave Super Nintendo World. That being said it would still be a silly move to steal your own thunder so I’m firm that it won’t happen this week.
I have no inside info and my uncle doesn’t work at Nintendo but my gut tells me Ninty won’t have their arm twisted into revealing anything ahead of schedule by any leaks. At this rate the reveal might not happen until February.
@Bluelink45 I love that sentiment, thanks for sharing. That actually made me a little misty. Ocarina was absolutely that for me but Wind Waker makes me feel things also.
Btw the Switch 2 reveal will NOT be this Thursday or even this week, so you can quote me like one of those “sources” from twitter.
There’s just no way Nintendo will steal thunder from their own release of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD by steamrolling over it with the announcement of the next console. It’s just a poor business move and to insist otherwise is clickbait.
@splinters that’s a really really good point. It would be the safest, most boring move in the companies history. But on the flip side of the coin is would be the safest, most boring move in the companies history at a time when they’ve been printing money with the Switch and likely don’t want to have a WiiU or GameCube level repeat.
But I’m with you, I’m living for a Switch 2 reveal that will be something so exciting and surprising we haven’t even thought of it yet.
Ya know what makes me laugh about all this Switch 2 rumor hysteria and mockups and leaks…
They all just look…like a Switch.
None of this is mind blowing. None of this is earth shattering. Pretty mundane and uneventful, in fact. Just looks and sounds like a sleek, new Switch.
So let’s just all sit down and wait for Nintendo to announce the actual thing and then we can have discourse about something that’s real.
Edit: to be clear I love fan’s discussing their hopes and expectations for the new system. That fan excitement is great and goes back to me salivating over what the “Ultra 64” and “Dolphin” will be and look like. What’s pretty revolting are all the leaks and mockups from companies like Genki, making it absolutely certain l will never give Genki my business and money.
Skimming through the comments it feels like Nintendo may have hit a wall on this release.
The overall general feeling is this is a filler port of a 20+ year old game that they’ve monetized twice before and while, yes, it may be a phenomenal game, even Nintendo can’t convince people to pay $60 for it a third time.
Makes you wonder what their thought process was behind this release? It just feels tone deaf.
Edited to make clear I’ll pick this up at some point but it will have to be discounted to the sub $40 range.
@hel105 I’m curious what system you ultimately decided to buy this on? I’m still wavering bw the PS5 and Switch. Portability isn’t an issue for me as I never play anything but docked on tv. So it kinda comes down to which system just plays better and part of me just kinda thinks this “feels” like a PlayStation game.

Re: Square Enix Rules Out Switch 2 "Upgrade Path" For Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake
