Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Shiny Toxtricity Distribution Event Starts February 19th (North America)

Ks123

First off, these in-store distros are ridiculous. It worked in the early 2000’s but just seems like a dinosaur today. How many people are really heading to stores to get a digital Pokémon and spending another $50-$100 on other stuff as a result? And this continued partnership with GameStop is strange and confusing for Nintendo. The two GameStop’s near me are sad and half empty, with the other half filled with toys and random crap. It’s not a fun place to visit, much less during a global health crisis.

Secondly, the Pokémon Pass app is another dinosaur. It works by picking up the store’s WiFi, so in theory all you have to do it drive up outside the Gamestop (or Target or Best Buy etc) and the app will generate a code for you. So why even bother and make fans jump through those hoops?

Things like this are why Pokémon has gotten a bad reputation this generation. I hope they do an overhaul for the next set of mainline Pokémon games for Switch.

Re: Square Enix Reports Increased Annual Sales, Despite Individual Game Losses

Ks123

@outsider83 that’s a fair viewpoint that I hadn’t thought of and makes sense to explain the lack of Switch port.

It still seems like large piles of Scrooge McDuck money left on the table that Disney & Capcom can’t figure out a financially beneficial way to make this happen. I paid full price for the Lion King/Aladdin physical collection (whether that makes me crazy is another topic) and I’d do the same for a Dis Afternoon Collection. But what do I know 🤷‍♂️

Re: Square Enix Reports Increased Annual Sales, Despite Individual Game Losses

Ks123

@Desrever It seems infinitely logical, no? Same with Capcom refusing to port Disney Afternoon Collection to Switch, you know, a collection of games that started life on Nintendo consoles and is basically taylor made to be on Switch. Same with Final Fantasy. What’s the logic in NOT porting games to Switch that ALREADY exist?

Re: The First Review For Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Is Now In

Ks123

@Mips Agreed. I think the addition of online multiplayer (which is mind boggling that it wasn’t included in the original WiiU release) instantly elevates it for me and justifies a double dip. It’ll be the first time I play it multiplayer and I’m really excited about that, not to even mention the Bowser addition.

Re: Sega To Share "Something Special" In Its First Live Stream Of 2021

Ks123

This has become a joke at this point.

It’s bordering on emotionally abusive how Sega keeps dragging us along for something awesome Sonic related and delivering junk like a Puyo announcement. 🤦‍♂️

Soooo I’ll see you guys at the next exciting Sonic news announcement article then? 👋

Re: Nintendo Is Releasing Another Limited Supply Pin Set For Super Mario's 35th Anniversary

Ks123

Same boat as most of you folks.

I can only get maximum 13 out of the 15 missions because the rest of the missions have expired out. Uhhh who is running this promotion?? Interns??? Like this is a class on how NOT to run a promotion/contest/marketing 101 otherwise you piss off your fan base. 🤦‍♂️

Reaching out to customer service for advice and will follow up if I hear anything. Not holding my breath. Lol

Re: Nintendo Switch Looks Poised To Smash 'Crazy Records' This Holiday Season

Ks123

Nintendo may not have a major AAA notable piece of software launching this Christmas but their discounts this year are MURDER and it’s not being talked about enough. I’ve never seen so many first party Nintendo games down to $39 and even $29. I have friends asking me which games to get because they’re seeing them at crazy prices and I’m recommending everything. So I think it’s important to watch not only Switch hardware sales setting records this Christmas, but also Nintendo quickly passing lifetime sales numbers for software.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Monster Hunter Rise And The Three amiibo

Ks123

@Dang69 so the irony of this is that the product listing pages for each of the amiibo state they qualify for free shipping over $35...not only does your checkout cart not honor the free shipping over $35, they charge you 3x the shipping. lmfao Gamestop for the win.

<wish I could include a screen shot here>

Re: Where To Pre-Order Monster Hunter Rise And The Three amiibo

Ks123

@Primarina no fight at all, just a discussion. I appreciate that some people love Gamestop and are absolutely entitled to. I have (many) reasons why I don’t care for the store based on experiences I’ve had as a customer. I also work in sales, by the way, so I am acutely aware that customers can be difficult and entitled, but multiple of the experiences I’ve had shopping at GameStop wouldn’t even pass the most basic level of customer service expected at a flee market in a third world country.

As for charging shipping for each item separately, for a total of $18...come on now. This is 2020, retailers are competing with each other to catch every customer they can to stay in business and out here is Gamestop charging $18 for shipping? Or $30 for the luxury of release day delivery. Best Buy and Target deliver my video games on release day....for free!

I don’t want to see Gamestop go out of business any more than I did Toys R Us or Borders Books, etc. Speciality stores offer a unique shopping experience that is unfortunate to loose. But I also won’t be sad if they do because their business practices and terrible customer service are doing it to themselves.

Re: Where To Pre-Order Monster Hunter Rise And The Three amiibo

Ks123

So Gamestop is up for the United States. In typical Gamestop fashion they managed to bumble something and upset people...

The amiibo are priced at $19.99, $19.99, and $24,99. GameStop’s website is only allowing shipping, no in store pickup for these. Shipping is $5.99 regular or $10.00 for release day delivery. EACH. Yes you heard that right. EACH. If I have all three amiibo in my cart it’s forcing me to pay three shipping charges. So $17.97 to ship all three, or $30.00 if I dare want these on release day along side the game.

Sigh. When people call for Gamestop to go out of business, it’s based on shady ass business practices like this. Can’t believe Nintendo would give the US exclusive to Gamestop for these amiibo. 🤷‍♂️

Re: Random: Microsoft Shuts Down Rumours That It's Buying Sega Next

Ks123

@Wexter hey, I really appreciate your good dialogue.

I agree that Gamepass is a really interesting offering. I think that it will force Sony to eventually roll out something similar. But you have to admit it’s a total loss leader for Microsoft. If they’re giving away brand new games for $10/month subscription it’s an admission that they were being outsold 2 to 1 in hardware and software to Sony. It’s a great service, but it was necessary for Xbox to compete and survive.

As for Series S being a great entry level next generation machine, I totally agree with you. It’s great for what it offers. But it’s playing by a completely separate set of rules than the PS5 Digital. It’s a total apples and oranges situation, the Series S and PS5 Digital, which I don’t know many casual games really understand what they’re getting. The PS5 Digital is identical technology to the full fat PS5, just without a disc drive for physical media. The Series S, on the other hand is A) actually a scaled down version of technology inside the Series X to justify the price and B) will require another $220 proprietary storage expansion once you quickly run out of space, making your new affordable Series S suddenly cost over $500. But yes I agree the Series S was again necessary for Microsoft because if it was an apples to apples competition again then I don’t know how Xbox would survive this generation.

I should also add that while I’m not an Xbox gamer, I appreciate that they’re trying different angles this generation. It’s not for me but more competition is always a good thing because it forces everyone to be on their toes.

Oh and Nintendo til I die. Lol

Re: Random: Microsoft Shuts Down Rumours That It's Buying Sega Next

Ks123

@SaltlakeCity

LMAO!!!!

What is your comment even in reference to, because I’m confused. Are you drunk? Just daft? And did you really go out of your way to create an account and use your one and only comment just to send me a snarky reply? You flatter me. 💁🏼‍♂️

As far as you clearly being incensed by my comment, yeah I don’t exactly want Sega to be gobbled up by Microsoft and become an empty shell like Rare did. (Set aside the argument that Sega is already an empty shell of itself, which I don’t exactly disagree with.) Microsoft doesn’t have very much substance to offer the gaming industry. Xbox is a vanity project that Microsoft likes being involved in despite little actual success. The 360 was their only console that moved the needle for the industry and innovated in any substantial way (and that was in spite of their red rings self sabotage that would have imploded any other company). Every other one of their boxes has just been meh, performed decently enough to stay afloat without really doing much the completion wasn’t doing. So yeah, Microsoft eating up companies just to have a fighting chance to compete this generation as a last effort is pretty lame to me. So when Microsoft gets out of the games hardware business in 10 years why should Sega (or other developers) suffer for that.

/end

Re: Random: Microsoft Shuts Down Rumours That It's Buying Sega Next

Ks123

I agree with everyone screaming “omg I hope this doesn’t happen!!!”. Look what happened to Rare, a complete shell of its once former brilliance since Microsoft bought them. Microsoft tend to run these companies into the ground. Sega and Sonic work as multi platform and I don’t want that to change.

And frankly, we shouldn’t support these giant acquisitions. It’s not good or healthy for the industry.

Re: Did You Miss Out On The Super Mario Anniversary Pin Set? You're Not Alone

Ks123

@Shadow_Dancer I dunno. I totally hear what you’re saying. But I have to think the artificial supply and demand causes a lot of upset, frustrated, annoyed, angry fans who are very vocal on social media about it. You have to figure the fans who got burned are majority the die-hard Nintendo fans who were jumping through the hoops to qualify for the pin set, not the casual public who just bought the game but wouldn’t care about pins to begin with. Add to that the poor communication on how the process will work and then website technical issues that pooped the bed. I have to wonder if it’s intentional then is it all worth it for Nintendo? Seems silly for some short term buzz.

Re: Did You Miss Out On The Super Mario Anniversary Pin Set? You're Not Alone

Ks123

@Yoshi oh shoot, I hadn’t even considered the angle that you mention. My order also got delayed from launch day Friday until Monday. When I tracked it, it showed it was sitting in California, I assumed delayed due to fires. So Friday morning I jumped on Best Buy and was able to buy a copy for in-store pickup that day. I hadn’t even considered that if your copy didn’t arrive until Monday of course it wasn’t enough time to get a code. More fails. 🤦‍♂️

Re: Did You Miss Out On The Super Mario Anniversary Pin Set? You're Not Alone

Ks123

Having been able to secure a pin set, I am feeling pretty grateful as a big Nintendo/Mario fan but also acknowledge the big picture that this is a piece of unnecessary nonsense that I will just display as a collectible in my office.

The bigger question to discuss is why? Why did Nintendo make this so limited and rare? Why anger and disappoint so many of your loyal die-hard fans? I mean these pins can’t cost that much to make so that’s not the issue.

If I were Nintendo and I was expecting to sell through (I’m making up arbitrary numbers here) 200,000 copies of Mario 3D All-Stars at launch. And I am promoting a collectible pin set for those who bought the game, why not make a healthy 100,000 pin sets just expecting that about 50% of the total launch sales will be from people who jump through the hoops of creating a My Nintendo account, doing the online missions, taking time to be online to redeem, etc etc.
So you satisfy your 100,000 die hard fans, they feel good about getting something fun and collectible for free (plus shipping) and you get some positive word of mouth on social media.

The alternative is what’s happening now.

Re: Did You Miss Out On The Super Mario Anniversary Pin Set? You're Not Alone

Ks123

@Ttimer5 yeah this was so poorly handled. I expected an email with my unique code also. But you had to be logged into your My Nintendo account and then on the Mario 35th Anniversary page and then if you registered all 5 missions you got a button for your unique code which you then took to the Nintendo Store page to enter to add the pin set to your cart which you then had to Check out and pay for shipping. It was a lot of hoops and a lot of technical difficulties with the site. But you wouldn’t have know any of that because Nintendo didn’t really explain any of how this would work.
