I love Garfield. But I don't see how beyond the characters themselves this could be stretched into a full game. I haven't played the 3DS game, but what kind of recognizable worlds does Garfield have that could be made into memorable tracks? Garfield barely goes anywhere in the comic strip, so what would the developers have to pull from? All the screenshots just look so bland.
@Dellybelly @Saizo Interesting! I wonder where NPD and Media Crate/Famitsu get their numbers from because those reports have shown the Switch being the leader almost all year, week after week - sometimes by wide margins.
@Dellybelly Where do you see that the PS4 outsold Switch by 50%? Everywhere I look with sales figures (NPD, etc), the Switch has been the best selling console week after week. It regularly tops the charts in North America, and beats PS4 in Japan (and surpassed it lifetime there as well) by a margin of 4 to 1 or greater. It's even been performing very well recently in markets that Nintendo usually struggles, like the UK.
Even four years later, I still feel the loss. I remember being, like many others, being completely stunned when I heard the news - almost felt like a suckerpunch.
Not all of his decisions in the industry were top rate and there are many things that could be debated, but I don't think anyone could debate his absolute love for gaming, for making people happy (even through some misguided choices, especially in the Wii U era) and that he was a very honorable and decent man.
@frabbit Yeah, it's people like that that make these comment sections unbearable at times. Almost all of his comment history is negative, attacking people and staff to make himself feel superior, or calling Nintendo fans on a Nintendo Fan site "sheeple". A good one to add to the ignore list.
I could see EA's icy support for the Wii U because, let's face it, most if not all third party developers eventually bailed on that system. But the Switch has sold 34 million units in just over two years. And as much as everyone loves to hate on EA (with good reason), they have some games that I feel would sell well on Switch, such as The Sims, Plants vs. Zombies, Peggle, etc. I was encouraged when they ported Unravel Two over. Why they don't bring those over is beyond me.
I adore the REmake, and this was my fourth time purchasing it. Disappointed not only that it is digital only, but that Capcom chose to put the less popular Zero on the cart and made the REmake a download instead of the other way around.
@Kalmaro A lot of people, actually. Same with game reviews, as evidenced by comment threads on all of the reviews here. People will wait to read them if they are on the fence, but it obviously won't sway many people who already had made up their minds.
It really seems the more gaming-focused sites enjoyed it more than the mainstream media ones. As to be probably expected as the movie is geared towards Pokemon and gaming fans.
The 3DS is my favorite handheld gaming platform ever. With its backwards compatibility with the huge DS library, to how much fun I had with the Mii Plaza Street Pass mini games, to how much I looked forward to seeing the new Miis arrive at my gate, and the bunny in the Arcade Badge game... And not to mention that 3DS had a lot of GREAT games in its own right and some really pleasing designs.
It may be time for it to go, but it provided me with eight years of fantastic experiences.
So many comments in this thread criticizing not the product so much but the content and writing of the article itself. I mean, people can say what they want, but it is a wonder why they still visit Nintendo Life if all they do is complain about what they post.
Here's hoping a physical version does come out on Switch for those wanting to understandably hold out. It's available on disc for PS4 and Xbox One, but they came out well after their initial digital debut.
@zool I don't know about the rest of the world, but here in North America, most of those games listed are still full retail price new at retail. Doom, Wolfenstein, Odyssey, Octopath are still $60 games here barring an very sporadic occasional bundle sale.
I love all the commenters the always pop up saying "slow news day" when an article doesn't interest them. Must be nice to be such constant critics. Maybe they would be able to run a better site on their own and fill it with all the news they deem to be relevant.
I, for one, am jazzed that this is shaping up to be one of the first major third party titles that will release on the Switch day and date with the other versions.
Regardless if one buys it or not, it is a great sign to not always assume a Switch port is always going to come weeks or months later.
@KingBowser86 Yes, why go get a wedding photo taken at a place that means something significant to the both of them and have it done at a cliche backdrop because its more "respectable"? The store clearly means a lot to them and even played a role in their relationship since they met there, so I think it is very appropriate and actually very cool. Its something different and provides a great story for them to share.
I'm so pleased this game is still getting not only updates but valuable updates. I actually enjoyed the game at launch, even if it was somewhat a thin experience, and all this new content has really fleshed it out.
I still feel that a court select screen should be more automatic and not dependant upon changing an option first. But! It's wonderful to have in those modes regardless!
@DavidMac I accidentally deleted my code as well initially. On the support website, they have a contact us page and an option for web chat as opposed to calling in, which is what I did. I just told them what happened, the approximate date I bought my downloaded copy (preload) and they resent me a code in under two days. I believe the title said something about Nintendo Customer Support so it was easier to identify. Either chat or phone should work as the chat option isn't available if they are really backed up, and their hours are 6am-7pm PST.
It was a pretty easy process as far as support goes.
I've really liked it, but one drawback is that the game requires such a fast jabbing motion that the joycon doesn't register it at times, breaking a string of "perfect" hits. It is surprisingly deep on the variations of workouts you can do and tracks your progress. It does lack (as far as I can tell) a way to translate the weight and goal markers from kg to pounds and etc for North American users.
It really is pretty fun if you like fitness games, but the price tag should be at least $10 lower for just the only sport it offers. It's definitely better than the ridicule a game like this always seems to invite.
I care. He was a face of indie gaming for Nintendo presentations, and it's nice to know how/where he is ending up. No one thinks it's a conspiracy or traitorous, but it's nice to see him land on his feet, so I appreciate the update.
EA's holding out made a little sense on platforms like Dreamcast where the install base was very low to begin with and they were burned out by Sega's bad business decisions. But EA would continue to look foolish to not try something on a red hot console that has sold over 30 million in under two years.
Regardless of how I personally feel about EA, having a Madden or more on the Switch alongside the other platforms would be a good thing, much like how having Mortal Kombat 11 releasing along with their PS4/Xbox One counterparts is viewed as a good thing. There are a number of more casual EA games that I think would do extremely well on Switch (Frostbite or not), like The Sims 4 and Peggle.
While this doesn't make a lot of sense for us, it makes perfect sense for smaller indie developers who have small budgets to work with and probably can't afford to shell out for game cards and whatnot. With how many releases are pushed out on the eShop every week, it can take less than seven days for a new release to be shoved off the "Recent Releases" page and never be heard from again. Having a physical store shelf presence with plastic cases probably costs them much less than game cards and still gives them the additonal benefit of sitting alongside of other, bigger retail releases.
A quick and easy port of a 2D Mario game that didn't have a lot of players due to a low install base is perfectly fine. There are a ton who actually prefer 2D Mario over 3D Mario, and this fits the bill for them just fine, with over 130 levels and whatnot. The only thing I have is that its price should have been about $20 less, but otherwise, I see no problem with them continuing this "New" franchise on occasion. Despite what it seems, the "New" series of games hasn't had an installment since Luigi U in 2013, so that's quite a break for what some would consider "overkill".
@SuperGhirahim64 You didn't have to unlock DLC characters if purchased in the Wii U/3DS versions. When you bought them (or entered a code for them, like in the MewTwo Club Nintendo promotion), they just show up on the roster ready to use. I wouldn't think this would be any different.
I like how people automatically focus on the Smash request, despite it being third in a list of three requests. The first one - a remake or true sequel to Super Mario RPG - is quite sensible and many people would really like it.
I would've enjoyed the video much more if the guy wouldn't have talked over all of the sounds and music. Would have been nice to listen for weird or random audio glitches and extra out-of-place effects.
It this this speaks to how a game like Animal Crossing can be so helpful to people - it has been proven to be a serious that many people enjoy playing to de-stress due to its calming musical scores and sense of friendship within your town. It makes perfect sense to me that an elderly grandmother has grown a hue fondness for this game. It probably helps her heart more than we know.
PS4's 88 million systems worldwide is very impressive... especially coming off the back of the third-place finisher PS3. I wonder if it will surpass the Wii when it is all said and done?
I'm personally shocked they haven't ported Super Mario Maker. I'd buy that in a heartbeat and it deserves to have the huge audience on Switch that it didn't have on Wii U.
