Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd November (North America)

KissMyFlapjack

Happy Thanksgiving, fellow NL Lifers!

I already downloaded Pocket Camp, am buying Worms from the eShop and have Resident Evil Revelations Collection on preorder. I wish RE2 was on cart also, but it will be great to have the original in physical format nonetheless. Another big week for games!

Re: Video: Here's What WWE 2K18 Looks Like On Switch

KissMyFlapjack

Its clear when articles like this are posted how many people do not actually read the text that accompanies them.

"He notes that the game doesn't have the massive download applied, so performance and content will almost certainly vary in the "final" version of the game."

That should take care of the comments that say how primative the game looks, or how awful it run. Clearly, I'm not saying the final product will be amazing, but it is noted in plain sight that this version does not include the update patch. So, no, this is not the final version we are seeing.

Re: Soapbox: Celebrating The Second Chance Saloon That Is The Nintendo Switch

KissMyFlapjack

I am very happy to see these games on the Switch. As basically a Nintendo-only gamer, it will be my first time at quite a few of them. It's been said before, but the fact that these games can be taken with me on a bus or on a plane, or to a hotel, or anywhere, is a major selling point - especially in longer, story driven games like LA Noire. Having a game available portabily gets me immediately more interested than having just on a TV. Just because a game is old doesn't mean it doesn't have value to those who may never have played it, or want to experience it again in a new way. But that's just me.

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp (Mobile)

KissMyFlapjack

I've been playing this throughout the weekend and I think it is a decent mobile game. It will NOT compare favorably to a full console game, and I don't know why some people are doing as such. As a mobile game, it is meant to be taken in smaller, daily doses so long play sessons will get boring and repetitive quickly.

But as a mobile game, this feels like more of an animal crossing game with elements of Happy Home Designer mixed in. It certainly is more than I thought an Animal Crossing mobile game would be. There is plenty of room for expansions and updates in the future. The microtransactions are present but not overbearing, and you can play and earn things as normal without them.

I've really enjoyed it, but then again, I didn't go into it expecting the world like some people seem to have done with it.

Re: Review: UNO (Switch eShop)

KissMyFlapjack

Bought this on sight and am enjoying it. It gets the common criticism of "I'd rather play the real game with real people" that all card/board game video games do, but for people who love the game, finding others to play isn't always easy or a common occurance. Having these types of games on a game console with online and AI opponents means you can always play whenever you want.

Re: The Switch eShop Now Lets You Search for Game Demos

KissMyFlapjack

On one hand, I miss the eShop music and graphics of the Wii and Wii U days, but I totally understand Nintendo's wanting to do everything they can to get the shop to load as quickly as possible, and said features would probably bog it down.

I do think they definitely need to get a step on putting game genres in the catergories list however. The addition of "Games on Sale" and searching for games with demos is nice, but the eShop is at a stage where it gets overloaded so quickly that games just a week old are already getting pushed off the "Recent Releases" page.

Re: Review: DOOM (Switch)

@Steve_Bowling Great review! Do either you or @AlexOlney know if the multiplayer mode is a required download, or can one who buys the physical version just stick with single player and not be forced to download the extra mode? Some games I think would force it on people, but it would be nice if it was the case where it had the option to optionally "Download" if you select a multiplayer option.

Re: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Drives Positive Switch Sales for Ubisoft

KissMyFlapjack

The Mario + Rabbids game has to win some kind of award for biggest turnaround as far as opinions go, from leak to street date. So many people, including myself, shrugged this game off early on. But the E3 presentation - helped by the emotion of the game developers - sold me, and it has been a great game. Not for everyone, obviously, but it turned out so much better than I initially gave it credit for. I'm happy for it's success.

Re: Review: Monopoly for Nintendo Switch (Switch)

KissMyFlapjack

@Malanta I'm hoping that they offer some DLC themed boards in the future. I could easily see them adding the Just Dance board at least that is on the other consoles. The Haunted board makes me wish for some other seasonal boards as well such as a winter one.

@kevin74 I agree with the animations and such, although I do wish there was an optional "speed up" option at times for those who want it. The original NES version had it and it sped the computer's turns up very fast. I love video game versions of board games like this because Monopoly is one of my favorite games and many times there is no one for me to play it with. With a video game version, there is always someone to play.

Re: Review: Monopoly for Nintendo Switch (Switch)

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Have you played this game personally? I know you get bashed a lot in these comment sections, and you make fair points in many cases - but you also seem to have strong opinions on games you haven't played on a console you don't even own. It may be this reason why your posts tend to attract so much negative attention on average.

Re: Review: Monopoly for Nintendo Switch (Switch)

KissMyFlapjack

Aside from the bug that freezes the game on the initial loading screen - restarting my system solves it and there is a text box on the title screen now that says they are aware of the problem - I really like this game.

The 3D Living Boards are neat to look at, with the city one being identical to the other games on PS4 and XBO, but the other ones are unique to the switch. The inclusion of unlockable tokens and new "Goal" cards has been a great way to shorten the game sessions without losing the feeling of playing Monopoly in the first place.

I also want to point out that the other versions also launched at $40 three years ago, and both came down in price within six months to the $20 it is now, and I suspect the Switch version will do the same.

Re: Review: Chess Ultra (Switch eShop)

KissMyFlapjack

Great review, @ThomasBW84! Pure Chess was great on the Wii U and other consoles, and Chess Ultra is great on the Switch. Limited appeal, but chess fans are in for a real treat when a game like this doesn't turn out to be pure throwaway shovelware but handled with care. I find the package very pleasing and relaxing to play.

Re: Feature: Ripstone On Making the Right Moves With Chess Ultra on Nintendo Switch

KissMyFlapjack

I am glad there is a feature like this for this game. Many people could consider it to be shovelware, but it is far from that. This is made by the people who did Pure Chess on the Wii U and other consoles, and it plays great. Very happy to see this on the Switch. It, so far, is a high quality title with a lot of polish and options.

I'm hoping they bring over a variant of Pure Pool as well.
