Original Article: Nintendo of Europe has revealed that it will be hosting a 'Blockbuster' sale from Thursday 11th April, giving fans a chance to pick up some top games for very tasty prices.
The sale will be taking place from 11th April until Thursday 25th April, with all offers available directly from the eShop itself. It appears to be exclusive to Europe (but you could always use a European eShop account to access the deals if you're based in another region).

I just bought zelda full price "facepalm"
I either have all of these or don’t want them, pass.
Wow I have all of these games except for Crash Bandicoot. Maybe time to pick that one up?
Finally, an Octopath sale. It might just be time...
@dystome it has been on sale before in the Eshop. Atleast in Europe
Diablo III and Monster Hunters are maybies depending on the price, the rest that I want I have because I'm a goon
Most physical copies are the same price or less.
So the word 'sale' is a little misleading.
Curious to see if it includes either the Xenoblade or Rabbids DLC. To be honest I wait for 95% off all eshop titles to be on sale before buying.
My wallet is already crying...
Up to 60% off, just not on Nintendo's own games which give you a paltry 30% and given BOTW's absurd price of £59.99 it'll still be more than £40
Don't understand why dont they do a Mario Tennis Aces sale.
It would help bring more players into the online.
All I want is a sale on Pokken good enough to justify double dipping.
I think Monster Hunter is looking good, but otherwise... meh. Already own the rest either on Switch or another console.
Dang! Already spent my gaming budget for the month
Skyrim should just be $20 at this point. No reason why it should be full price til now.
I was genuinely excited until I saw that this was through Nintendo of Europe. Eh, I've spent enough money on games lately.
Captain Toad is always skipped in these sales! Come on, Nintendo! Give me a good excuse to buy that gem again!
Is the Zelda dlc also on sale ??
Hope it hits North America and for close to the same time frame. My birthday is April 20th. Ive requested eShop cards. So this sale would be perfect in picking up some titles I've yet to
I'll wait to see what the actual sale prices are as Nintendo's online %'s off usually just end up the same price as their physical versions.
Darn. The best deals are on games I can borrow from friends.
Ooh I might bite with the 2 Panic Button ports, Doom and Wolf 2.
I can never find those games for cheaper physically on Switch. Always £40-50.
Might as well go digital with these 2.
Hmm, maybe I will give a go on Xenoblade 2.
LA Noire was £11.00 on Argos not long ago so, yeah, not worth getting it on the eShop as I bet the price won't match that.
Literally just got home from buying dark souls and tales of vesperia .....god damnit.
Hmm I might snag Octopath. Although 40 bucks is a still a bit too much imo.
**sees the article about the Switch and 3DS game sale** Oh, sweet!
"Nintendo of Europe..." Ugh, COME ON! -_-
The only sale I'm waiting for is Tropical Freeze.
Eh whatever, I already have what I need anyway. XD
@Medic_alert That’s €39,-. Not sure if that’s going to be worth it. I’ve heard so many mixed reactions about that game.
I just buy physical cartridges off eBay with no case. Got Botw for £30, Mario tennis aces for £26 and odyssey for £29
Heh... I already own all of these on Switch except for Wolfenstein 2. Maybe its time to get that one then. If these sales come to NA.
MonsterHunter n Skyrim will be added to the collection!
Weak, as usual. And the 3DS sale is a joke. But I will probably pick up BotW anyway.
blockbuster sales....lists less than 20 games....
@Starvald thought I remember a Christmas sale for Mario aces or am I off?
Xenoblade if the sale comes to the US.
Perfect, nothing that I don't already have, where's Kirby
@carlos82 in recent years, Nintendo have never gone above 33 percent off for their first party games. No amount of complaining will change that pricing strategy.
@jsty3105 maybe not but it's still rubbish and it's nice to get it out of my system 😁
Hopefully we'll have a discount on the Mario + Rabbids season pass this time.
@Yasume
Is the demo still on there? Could try that first
Would consider some of these if they were physical versions. But alas...
Doom or Skyrim. Not sure which yet.
I pretty much have all of these except Wolfenstein 2 and Doom, and just not that interested in getting those lol.
I own pretty much everything on that list except Octopath. Maybe it’s time I picked it up?
Only 33% for Wolfy 2? Bullsh*t. 😣
@Tsurii you obviously don't have a calculator
@zool I don't know about the rest of the world, but here in North America, most of those games listed are still full retail price new at retail. Doom, Wolfenstein, Odyssey, Octopath are still $60 games here barring an very sporadic occasional bundle sale.
Why don't they ever discount the DLCs too?
Much as I think sales are great, the problem with Switch Sales is that it's 40! 50! 60% off... the full retail price for games that are 2+ years old. You know what costs way way less than that after 2 years? Any game at all for any other platform.
Until they sort out the fact that Switch physical (and often digital) games never decrease in price it's very hard to justify buying any cross platform game if you have anther console.
Gets VERY hopeful. Clinks on link. No. Just no. Leaves.
I got all these titles for $4 each on PC 2 years ago oh hang on a sec....
Getting Doom. I have the rest of them.
I'm in NA, how do I add funds to my European account? I can't find giftcards for it and it won't take my paypal or credit cards. Help!
Skyrim possibly or maybe Diablo, I have a tough choice to make...
Let me know when Torna goes on sale.
Dark souls and la noire are of interest
Still not even considering Xenoblade 2 without being able to try the gameplay first.
Celeste and Gris with a decent discount please. These prices for the bigger games are ridiculous. Picked up Octopath physical for £30 from Amazon UK last week and a mint copy of Donkey Kong for £28 of eBay too.
@Jonasty198460 it's worth every penny
@zool Show me a link or some photos where these games are available cheaper, as you say, in retail shops, please.
@flapjack-ashley Mario Odyssey and Mario and Rabbids for example are cheaper on Amazon, only by a £1 or two, and have a resale value.
Nintendo sales seen OK for those who have an aversion to physical games. 🙄
I'll take that skyrim price.
@LunarFlame17
It is a very good game, a bit hard but you will love it
@zool then the digital price is a fantastic price compared to physical as you have convenience. Especially for games you're unlikely to resell for years.
Monster Hunter is a maybe but as usual I'm sure Canada will be stiffed on the sale and have nothing. Happens every time.
@Medic_alert too many gamers thinking short term and only of their own wallets. Developers deserve good income for great games. There's also documented evidence that deep discounting doesn't actually improve profits all that much (because customers are already conditioned for lower price points)
Crap sale. 33% is not worth it.
@WiltonRoots I've yet to see anyone play them on a PC on public transport or the park
@Cosats the only game I don't have and may get one day from the list is Diablo. And OK it is a saving of £3.99 if I download it while the blockbuster sale is on. So I make a blockbuster saving of £3.99 and sacrifice a trade in value of a least £18 if I don't like or want to keep the game.
https://www.thegamecollection.net/diablo-iii-eternal-collection-switch/?utm_source=tradedoubler&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=td&tduid=64e416a46612f3afec2166ebabfdc44f
@Keldraxas . Not every game at all. I've been following the price for nobunagas ambition on Steam for years and it's never gone cheap. Sphere of influence is several years old now.... Monster Hunter world has never gone cheap either
@Moroboshi876 industry thing I think. For example, I've never seen mass effect dlc on sale
"Whaaa, I only do physical! Physical copies are 99% cheaper! I stop gaming if they stop physical copies!"
My time to buy a digital copy of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is nigh. Hopefully Mario Kart 8 and/or Splatoon 2 are also on the sale...Though hopefully not since I don't spend a ton of money all at once.
I already have all of the above games but with multiplayer games like those, especially on the Switch, I find it so much more convenient to have a digital copy for when I decide after 3 months of not playing that game "huh, I feel like doing a few multiplayer matches in Splatoon".
Single player games tend to stay in my console until I've finished with them and either never get played again or only get played again years later when I've forgotten enough so playing it again feels a little fresh. Digital is a bit worthless to me there.
€17,- for L.A Noire is very tempting, I might buy it! But the other deals are not really that good imo, Zelda is €70,- on the eshop so with 30% off you'll just end up with the retail price.
@zool Okay, but if you're one of the many who just keep games then the trade in value isn't really an issue.
I would also hate to be the kind of person who thinks about trade in values when I buy something.
I also question that if you're so worried about trade in values why you're not instead throwing these things on eBay where you can instead easily sell something at close to or even at the preowned market price.
@jsty3105 a physical games is yours forever and will always have a value, even just a small one. A downloaded game is rented from Nintendo and is never yours. So you can keep it until Nintendo decides to pull the plug.
Who's that handsome chap <------- ;D time to try Skyrim me thinks
@zool Strictly speaking, neither are yours I do always weigh up whether I'd buy digital or physical based on whether I'll end up keeping the game. Physical media does wear out and deteriorate. Digital never does. On the flipside, Digital games can't be resold (Greenman Gaming tried and failed to make it viable). Games with little to no replayability - I'd never really consider buying digital unless that was the only way to get it.
@Starvald Yeah that would make a lot of sense. That game could use some fresh blood.
@Tao think you've just missed out on the Splatoon 30% off promotion a couple of weeks back
@Sulleymonster Octopath for £30 on Amazon was a short term price matching sale. It was £39.99 just a few weeks ago and still is now.
Skyrim is £44 on amazon and Wolfenstein is £45. I'd wager this sale would make the digital versions cheaper than retail prices.
@Yasume I wouldnt get it on eShop but if you can find a second hand copy- get it. I wasn't sure on Octopath due to the mixed opinions but honestly its pretty good with some really fun mechanics. If youre needing a sprite based JRPG fix then it will satisfy you.
The very elusive first party Nintendo title sale! Sadly, there's nothing there I really want. Well, I don't have money either, so... lol.
@Jonasty198460 If you bought physical, good. Digital at 33% off is not better than full price physical, that has actual value.
@jsty3105 I agree with most of what you say. I almost never play a game twice, the exception is something like Mario Kart. When I finish a game I trade it. Or should I say when I have finished with it. I bought Skyrim last year and put over 80 hours into it. I found two thirds of the locations but completed less than half of the tasks. I don't think I will ever go back to it, there are new games to play, so it will be traded eventually. I will download a game if there is no physical version but these games are low cost games and usually when they are discounted.
Crap. I just bought Dark Souls 2 days ago.
Are we never going to see super Mario party on sale?
@Tao I will scan the barcodes for the trade in value and look on ebay for the going price. Back in the N64 and cube days I did hand on to games but rarely replayed them and they were not backwards compatable and I would trade the lot with the old console and buy games for the new console. Now I trade them while the price is good.
Luckily I am in a position where I can afford to buy as many games as I need, but I always look for value for money. I buy, play and trade a game and move on to the next one, and it's cost me around £20. A download that I may never play again would set me back £50.
@Medic_alert How rough of a ride are we talking? I was wanting to get it on Nintendo Switch myself.
I haven't seen Bayonetta on sale. Not one single time. Anyways, it's a pretty decent sale. But I just bought Darksiders, and now I'm waiting for AC3.
@Dpullam
Get Doom instead, if you didn't already. Wolf is very blurry on both docked and handheld. And runs at very low fps. It's a technical marvel on the switch, but not necessarily a great gaming experience
If the discount comes to the western side of the world, I'd try to get Skyrim.
@BrettAwesome I don't know what you're talking about. Yes, Wolf II it's a bit blurry, but it looks great, and I never experienced frame rate drops, in any point in the game.
@retro_player_22
Especially considering it's the worst version of the game. But because the Nintendo platform is starved for triple A quality offerings, they can get away with it.
@Medic_alert @BrettAwesome Thanks for all the information guys! That saves me the trouble of worrying about buying it on Nintendo Switch. I had no idea there were that many sacrifices made just to make this port possible.
@BrettAwesome
Not only have I never seen it on sale either, the cheapos don't bundle bayonetta 1 with bayo 2 unless you buy physical.
Just another example of why digital storefronts will never be able to compete with retail. We can't ever take advantage of overstock or poor sales numbers. It's all just copy and paste of an exe. Bad reviews and bad sales somehow don't ever translate to better prices in the digital space.
@Medic_alert
Wrong person. I'd never buy a Bethesda game again no matter how well optimized or crisp the visuals were. Lol
@Pluto14
LA noire is one of the worst "Games" I've ever played. No amount of portability is going to make it better.
It's not even really a game. It's just a cinematic walking/driving sim with the trademark rockstar jank.
Excellent! I’ve been waiting for Wolf2 to go on sale so I’ve no excuse now, can’t wait!
@UmbreonsPapa my sons birthday is also 20th April! It’s a Saturday this year, even better! Hope you enjoy your day.
I thought Blockbuster went bankrupt years ago 😮
@Kai_
Indeed, totally addicted, why did i wait so long to by this gem
@Bolt_Strike what is it? You have them all or you don't want them? Or have you forgotten if you have them all? Your comment makes no sense how can you have all of them but not want them haha
I do got about 6450 gold coins. I should buy Zelda and resell it at gamestop
@carlos82 are you serious? BOTW is £60 on the UK eshop? well that 30% won't mean much at all LOL
Maybe they will have a Nintendo Direct same day . Hope these sales come to US
@imgrowinglegs i bought captain toad in the eshop for 26€ recently on sale, so it Will probably be on sale sometime in the future again
I just got Nights of Azure 2 in physical for £17.85 on Base.com.
@Tyranexx my thoughts exactly. Was hoping it hits US, but with the amount of money I spent the last 3 weeks on games, it's probably good thing it's only in Europe
@1leggedcrow I have everything on that list that I want. The rest I don't want.
@Medic_alert Alright. Thank you for your honest opinion!
@Jonasty198460 it’s worth double what you paid. It’s like going to another world. Enjoy!
@NintendoByNature Heh, yep! I exceeded last month's gaming budget, causing that extra to run over into this month. I have just enough left this month to cover a VC game, but I should probably just hold off for now. XD April is turning into the Month of Endless Bills.
If they come to NA, I will get octopath and dark soul for sure xD Eventhough I would like the physical copy instead of digital.
@Jonasty198460 lol me too.
So if I create Europe account profile on switch and login then I can buy the discounted games on eShop?
Skyrim is 50% off?
Mite B Cool, even if downloading 14GB wirelessly to an SDmicro sounds slightly time consuming.
@Jonasty198460 lol me too. Still worth it though
@MrGawain Publishers are weirdly terrible at discounting DLC for sales. Most of the Ubisoft games I've played have been bought on sale for cheap, but have DLC more than twice the cost of the game itself. With Ubisoft you pretty much buy the gold edition and have the DLC or never play it at all; there's no playing the game once and deciding you like it enough to want more.
I don't like or buy digital at all really, but I ended up with over £20 eShop credit as a gift last year that I have on my 3DS that I still haven't used, so might see how much the New Super Mario Bros 2 comes to and get that.
@Edu23XWiiU
Well. There are plenty of frame drops. So, on top of a very blurry image you get lots of dips to 25 fps. So let's say it runs at an average frame rate of 28 fps at low res, makes it a noticable step down from even the xbox one version. It's not ideal
@Pod
It takes a while to download, but the Switch port is amazing. I have a few games I only play handheld (because I have other consoles too), and Skyrim is fantastic as a handheld game. It looks and runs great.
@BrettAwesome
Might have to give it another shot. I initially wrote it off after a few hours for not really being htat different from Oblivion as to feel fresh to me. Maybe playing it handheld/tabletop will provide some of that.
Games that are 7 years old only 33% off? Give me a break Nintendo.
@Jonasty198460 why would you do that
@UmbreonsPapa I really hope this is a NA sale too. I had Zelda and Skyrim in physical form (paid full price for both), but then in February my house burned down and we lost everything, I clouding my switch and all of the games. Nintendo of Canada replaced my switch with a refurbished one, but not any of the games, so I'm hoping I can finally afford to replace them (even though they'd be digital).
@Kaizoku
Octopath has been on sale in the US eShop before too. I bought it when it was last on sale
@MJInnocent Thanks and Happy Birthday to your son! Hope he has a great day too. It is nice for it to fall on Saturday and not have to take a day off from work for a change.
@Karatecanine Sorry to hear about your home. Sounds like no one was injured. And yes, that would be helpful in building back your library
@Medic_alert I really never experienced anything like that, awesome game. I guess you're a "4k" kinda guy. Poor dude.
@BrettAwesome Like I said, I never experienced frame drops in Wolf II, more in DOOM. I guess they went with graphical fidelity in DOOM and frame rate performance in Wolf II. Still, I love both games, some of the best the Switch has to offer!
@MJInnocent It's awesome man, the story and gameplay are incredible, such a great game!
@UmbreonsPapa thanks! I work every other Saturday and lucky enough his birthday falls on my Saturday off!
@Edu23XWiiU can’t wait I absolutely love DOOM on Switch and I’m sure I’ll love Wolfenstein 2 as well!
@Medic_alert Pale imitation? It's an absolute blast to play it on the Switch. Even if I had other consoles, I'd still get the Switch version of any third party game, portability beats all the other stuff. Great that you enjoy playing games in bigger tv's, not that makes any difference on how you enjoy a game... Tell me, is it unplayable on Switch! It's portable! Good luck taking your 4K anywhere with you.
@MJInnocent I'm sure you'll love it! I'm about to start my second run! Good profile pic, btw.
@Edu23XWiiU thank you very much.
The discounts are ok but those asking prices are still too high for 2 year old games. Octopath was on sale once before in Europe. Did not get it back then so I might get it now. I played like 3/4 by borrowing it so I don't feel like paying full price anymore but still I think I want to buy it.
@Medic_alert It's the best version because I can play it anywhere, it's that simple
@Edu23XWiiU
Nope. DOOM looks and runs better, and is a lot less scaled back visually. Still, it's amazing they made it run in the first place. But...it's not pretty. And it drops frames more often than DOOM. It really isn't a matter of opinion
EDIT: Ok, I stand corrected. I see that v. 1.2 or whatever brought a LOT of improvements!
hi, so when start? Its already utc time 12:40 AM
I'd like to pick up BOTW, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or Octopath as a birthday present to myself. With the UK to Canadian exchange rate I think it would virtually work out to be the same as normal price though give or take $5 - $10, so hopefully there'll be a North American sale too.
Debating between Octopath and Xenoblade 2...
@gaby_gabito
Both
When will be live the sales?
Any idea if or when the sale will go live in the US? I would love to get either Doom or Monster Hunter.
Just confirmed, the sale will go ahead on the 11th April 2020
04/11, but still not yet?
Doom is actually £24.99
@Medic_alert Dunno if you tried the most recent Wolf 2 patch but it is a significant improvement on Switch. Still the technically worst version of the game but it is much more consistent. It's visually more clear and the framerate holds better.
Meanwhile in the US Reggie and Doug are debating if the sale should be the last thing Reggie does or the first thing Doug gets to do. 😝
Either way, not buying anything at all until a US sale gets announced.
Oddly enough, the 3DS deals are pretty good! Fire Emblem Awakening is still 40 Euro here new in store, and 30+ Euro secondhand. So I'll probably pick it up for 30 digital. Same story with Majora's Mask.
Does anyone know if Child of Light has had its framerate fixed? It's not listed as part of the deal but it's 50% off and I remember loving that game.
Also, if you haven't played Rayman Legends yet, you owe it to yourself. 15 Euros is a good deal on the second-best platformer on the Switch (Tropical Freeze is #1 obviously).
Cheeky buggers advertised Doom as 50% off but it's only 33%! Not much of a sale , will stick to ebay
why not kirby, tennis aces?
@USWITCH64 it's showing £24.99 for me ... Check the eshop
"Nintendo of Europe has revealed"
Oh.
#mericuh
@Yasume It's not a perfect game, but if you like old school RPG's it's worth a play through, I wasn't sold on Octopath after the first demo, but still decided to pick it up and ended up enjoying it. When they do a sequel there's a few things they will need to change up a bit, but overall for a new game for a new franchise it was a good start.
@USWITCH64 it is 50% off
Mario + Rabbids 50% off and the season pass is still full price. That makes the game cheaper than a short season pass.
Maybe next time...
Blockbuster sale? I can't see one
Hopefully they have this sale in the US. Would love to get Arms
@playstation_king Breath of the Wild, Odyssey, Diablo 3, Skyrim, DOOM, Wolfenstein and Dark Souls don't count as blockbuster franchises? Like them or not they're big hits, which is exactly what the title suggests.
@SegaBlueSky
Sorry about the confusion, my comment was on the prices themselves in terms of the sale, the games themselves are all good
@pixel_jones
Do people still play arms? I had it on release, was a blast to play but after the online membership not many people were still playing, so don't know what it's like now maybe it's picked up again but maybe do some searching first as that's a lot of money to spend if the games dead
@playstation_king Ah, gotcha. Yeah got to agree there, sadly. Agreed on ARMS too.
@Medic_alert It was a hot minute ago. I think it's version 1.2.
@Medic_alert Hehehe now what are you trying to call me? poor? Like I said, even if I had other consoles, I'll prefer to get the Switch version, portability beats the other crap the other consoles offer. Wolf II had a huge improvement with a patch last year. There was even a guy that made comparisons in Youtube with the Xbox version, it has nothing to envy from the other versions, and it's still a freaking fun game to play on Switch. Wanna settle this in Smash?
@BrettAwesome Yes! I got Wolfenstein II after they released that patch, and my God, it's a true improvement! You should try it out!
@retro_player_22 greed is the only reason it is.
@Medic_alert Ahhhhh fair enough. I actually picked it back up about 2 weeks ago (gave up on the courthouse level as it just got too muddy to see what was happening) and was pleased with the improvement.
I do understand not being thrilled with the Switch version after playing on other consoles though. DOOM held up much better. Looking forward to seeing how Youngblood and Eternal make out.
@Medic_alert Ugh that was rough. I was very happy to be done with it.
I'd love to get back into Skyrim again after spending hundreds of hours on the PC version, but the lack of official mod support means I'll probably pass on this. Sigh, being able to play a modded run on my daily commute would be amazing.
@Medic_alert You must have something on Switch that we can play at. Mario Kart?
'Sale'
What a joke.
Boooo!!!! Europe only.
It’s an ok sale, but not enough of a drop to stop me wanting physical copies of some of these
Wow. EU prices are TERRIBLE. Even at a clickbaity discount level....
Soooo, I was bummed these sales didnt come to the NoA Eshop. Was looking forward to buying La Noire. Then I went to Amazon and it's $18 for the physical copy. Like wtf are these eShop retail prices?!?!?!?!?
Nintendo is by far the worse
I don't know what they think
Closing up all consoles so we can't never buy what we have missed
I can find these prices anytime at stores
Big sales Nintendo I'm amazed
@Dazzle You can also get the basic physical version for 17.99 on Amazon.
@Alexkidd1985 marry me? 😂
Picked up Arms which might now be my favourite switch game, its simply brilliant, best fighting game I've ever played. How is Arms not a bigger thing?
All of those sales are always at a time when I either don't have the money (and sometimes literally end a day before payday) or I'm saving it for something else (like now for a holiday next week).
Really wish we would have gotten this in the US.
Please end finally and start a indie sale. Blockbusters are here to buy physical anyways!
A sale on games that are actually recognizable? Rejoice!
Hmmmm won't last long..
Why is this popping up in October 2019? Oh well
