Re: Feature: Digital vs Physical - What Is Your Preference for Nintendo Switch?

KissMyFlapjack

I tend to prefer physical if at all possible, but I do have digital copies of a handful of retail games that I know I'll be happy to have on my system at all times for quick gaming sessions like Smash and MK8 Deluxe.

That said, I have nothing against digital downloads, especially when it comes to smaller indie developers who produce fantastic games but may not have the means to put out a physical game. Just because I prefer physical doesn't mean I am willing to skip a great game because they don't have the resources to do a game card version.

I do often wonder though, with so many physical games getting Day One patches and mandatory updates/downloads, if servers eventually go down - whch is the big fear with digital only games - how will that affect these card-based games? If years down the line, you have to replace your Switch and those servers are down, will the game still function in the way you remember it without being able to download the patches, or will it even function at all? A big part of retail games now are patches and additional downloads, and I would think that they would be at a similar risk as digital games in the case of servers being shut down.

Re: Rumour: Swedish Retailer Lists Metroid Prime Trilogy For Nintendo Switch

It reads to me that they openly admit this is a rumor from them with no outside sources or leaks to back it up - meaning they originated the rumor and published the rumor and then said it was a rumor.

I do think this would make a LOT of sense and I would love to see it happen, I also think rumors like these - paricularly unfounded, out of the blue ones like this one - only set people up for unwarranted disappointment.

Re: These Larger, Cheaper Third-Party Switch Joy-Con Promise Improved Grip And Customisation

KissMyFlapjack

I'm surprised at the number of comments talking about how useless these would be because they don't slide onto the console for handheld mode.

I thought the purpose behind these being made were pretty obvious, as started in the article:

"users with larger hands, in particular, have struggled to get a good grip on the Joy-Con, sometimes experiencing cramps when having to hold them in certain ways. Well, these new third-party offerings are aiming to fix that, and we're certainly intrigued by their design."

These are clearly meant for those who want to use the Joy-con while playing on the tv and detached from the grip, like in games such as Mario Party, Pokemon Lets Go or other multiplayer games where each person has one Joy-Con each.

The larger size option isn't meant to be pretty, but there are a number who would certainly welcome a larger size for sure.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Says Sticking With Nintendo In "Difficult" Times Has Helped Their Relationship

KissMyFlapjack

@shani LOL. All the stuff you talked about has been gone over repeatedly on this site, in articles and comments galore. Anyone who was with the Wii U knows all of that. If it had be brought up again, the article could be accused of stirring things up all over again.

I personally don't fault them for their decisions, although the delaying Rayman was kind of unneccessary. They are a business, and they have to go where there was money to be made, and everyone knows there was little to be had for anyone on the Wii U.

Re: Miyamoto Regrets Design Choices Made During Development Of Super Mario Run

KissMyFlapjack

I like Super Mario Run and I still play it on occasion to this day at times. The flat fee as opposed to microtransactions was one of the reasons that made me buy it. I think had it been more upfront of the cost of the game to the user at the beginning - as opposed to springing it on them after they played a couple levels - it could have been better received.

And the three month exclusive window for iOS killed a lot of the hype by the time it got to Android.

Re: Review: Night Trap - 25th Anniversary Edition (Switch eShop)

KissMyFlapjack

Bought this instantly and also have a physical edition coming. A lot is nostalgia talking, but I love this game even if it's overall quality is questionable. I find it incredibly fun, goofy, and enjoyable.

Although I don't get a lot of the negative reactions to the review itself. A review is a personal opinion, and everyone is allowed to have one. Its fine to disagree, but its not fine to insult the reviewer. His opinion doesn't invalidate yours, and vice versa.

@BoilerBroJoe I'm glad you pointed that out about the motion in the camera select options during the game. Makes it easier for newcomers and is optional for veterans. Its a nice touch.

Re: Video: Check Out Dark Souls: Remastered Running In Handheld Mode On Switch

KissMyFlapjack

I really don't understand why people are so upset. They are selling the trilogy on other consoles, and people who buy it will be rebuying the original remastered edition again.

I don't take it as a personal insult at all. I always planned on buying it on Switch, even late, because the benefits of having it on a portable console remains the driving reason for my decision. Sure it would have been nice to have it at the same time as the other consoles, but even still, I'm fine with it.

A repackaged trilogy on other consoles doesn't affect my choice at all and doesn't lessen the appeal of having it to play wherever, which is why I am buying it.

Re: Random: Relax You Guys, Luigi's Not Dead - He's Just 'Resting His Eyes'

KissMyFlapjack

I personally loved it. It was shocking that Nintendo would be that brutal with one of its beloved signature characters. What it showed to me is that this is a new Nintendo that isn't afraid of taking a pretty bold risk - especially with its top characters. We think Mario, Luigi, Peach, Kirby, etc are all invincible, but when they aren't, it stuns us and leaves an impression. watching reaction videos from the Direct and people were laughing, silent, stunned... but they were all shocked because it was unexpected. And that is the kind of Nintendo we need to see glimpses of - the one that brings us unexpected surprises and isn't afraid to go against what is safe on occasion.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th June (North America)

KissMyFlapjack

This is one of the weeks that the limit of only choosing three could be problematic for some people.

I voted for Inside, Dream Alone and Wolfenstein, even though I'm getting the latter physically. Also picking up Limbo and Crash (physically as well).
