A couple of weeks at number 1 is a good run for a bland port from the Wii U days. I'm sure it's sold several millions of copies by already so Nintendo will be pleased.

In other news, people seem to be happy with RE2 remake.

@electrolite77 No offense, but isn't that second point a good thing? It means the industry is developing and evolving instead of stagnating. New games trump old games in my book, even if I do enjoy a remaster/remake here and there.

@Retupmocnin My theory is that if you get the game at a good price you can get game currency cheaper than buying the currency straight.

One is a 7 year old port with higher resolution, the other a complete reimagination with a gorgeous engine.

Dark Souls 2 (lkjhgvbhjk child of the series) needs to come out on the Switch this year.

A quick and easy port of a 2D Mario game that didn't have a lot of players due to a low install base is perfectly fine. There are a ton who actually prefer 2D Mario over 3D Mario, and this fits the bill for them just fine, with over 130 levels and whatnot. The only thing I have is that its price should have been about $20 less, but otherwise, I see no problem with them continuing this "New" franchise on occasion. Despite what it seems, the "New" series of games hasn't had an installment since Luigi U in 2013, so that's quite a break for what some would consider "overkill".

I dont know why so many people are hating on NSMBUD so much, it's a great game, fun, relies on a winning formula, now, if you played this game on Wii U you must realize that this game wasnt ported with you in mind, there are at least 18 million Switch owners who didnt have a Wii U, whats wrong with them getting a chance to play the amazing first party lime up the Wii U had?

Because 60€ for almost zero effort. No new stages, modes, just new characters made for extremely casual public.
I can get it on Wii U with Luigi U for 20€ (new) so why should I pay 40€ extra for a bump in resolution and Peachette?

That's only fair. RE2 is a remake, whereas NSMBU Deluxe is just a rerelease with some minor additions. If you ask me, NSMBU Deluxe never deserved to be first place anyway. That game was so uninspired I couldn't get too far into it even though I got it for free with my Wii U. I recently traded it in for money. Something I should have done years ago.

KH3 will knock it of #1 this week.

RE2 looks great - this is how a "remastered" should look like. But rather play something I do not know how it ends with my $60.

With another new big game coming this week and 3 more next month. Good balance of old and new.

Well this "New" super mario game is old. So of course it gets less attention. It will be outselled soon and will sent to the bottom. lol. But I still love the game. Still playing it, but I see why it's losing

No, I disagree with your last sentense. Nintendo is the only company on the market where ports cost as a new game. That’s not a subjective option but a fact.

ok haters, nsmbdx is still a good game, so stop hating on people that do not have a wii u and can enjoy the game. Resident Evil 2 is a great game too, you can have the best of both worlds.

@electrolite77 Fair enough. Sometimes I feel as if game developers are sticking to the past a bit much, so it makes me happy when rereleases lead to new content (see Mega Man 11).

Collections are definitely my prefered rereleases. Legacy content is nice, but if am only allowed to play one of the games (see Dark Souls Remastered), it illustrates a lack of extra effort. It doesnt allow new gamers much of anything except an easy way to gift money to the company.

This is where my dislike of NSMBUD stems from anyways. It' technically two games, but I'd rather waste my money on something with more effort and content.

@ieatdragonz - Yhere is financial reasons why re-releases remain a constant in today's gaming. It isnt just a cash grab, bit often some of it is used as funding for the next game.

I read a comment where the analogy of it being a Kickstarter, you're paying for the development of Pikmin, in turn you're getting NSMBUD. Interesting take, but a lot of truth to it.

@Paraka Except there's two clauses to that arguement. One: Game developers often don't tell you if you are funding for another game, with zero clarity you will never know. Pikmin 4 could easily be funded by this game, but what if they weren't funding it off this port and instead using Hey Pikmin as their actual gauge?

The second. Even if you do know what the money is going to, it often feels like a strong arm. Like how Travis Strikes Back is supposedly going to fund NMH future projects. Whether they enjoy the game or not plays no mind into it.

Even worse, with the second option, the promises are empty. If Samus Returns sells well, we will be funding more Metroid games! An eagle-eyed consumer will realize that "well" can mean literally anything. Sure, the two examples I use are brand new games, but it applies to ports just as well. "If Xenoverse 2 sells, we will consider FighterZ for Switch" even though the two have no connection except in brand.

That's probably the closest comparison to Kickstarters. A whole lot of empty promises with a few true to form examples.

Quite depressing to see how howTravis Strikes Again No More Heroes didn't make it into these or even the german eShop download charts. Is it in the download charts elsewhere? (UK, US...?)

@ieatdragonz - But for a game developer, their livelihood relies on funding games. The point you miss is that even if, say NSMBU, sold to fund Hey! Pikmin and there was much more funds, that's likely going into another game. Doubt Sushi Striker or ARMS would likely have happened if funds weren't there to "afford" a loss on the project to begin with. So clarity to the consumer isn't required here, cause they're not selling you a future product to invest in through another game. They make games, they're funded by other games, even ones you may not like. If they were more clarity, whose to consider what is worthy to be funded or not because all releases are then being held at random to somebody.

Your second reasoning is assuming you are forced to buy a game you do not want. Travis Strikes Again is a perfect example of this. NMH3 isnt absolutely held hostage as many think it would be because they decided to make a "cash grab" instead (which is doubley amusing considering you cannot even make such a practice with such a niche title to begin with). Even Other M sold "well" enough to make Samus Returns and Prime 4 to be considered. And they were likely funded by Smash.

@electrolite77 Like my post said, it has nothing to do with not having old games. I do not care about $60 RE2 on PC/PS4, but I had Kingdom Hearts 3 and AC7 to pick from instead.

As for new games, Wargroove looks brilliant

I am getting The Caligula Effect: Overdose on March 12th on Switch. But not pretending most people care - just like WarGroove on Feb 1st. They do not move the needle in this debate either way.

Next Switch game that matters is Yoshi's Crafted World on March 29th.

@Paraka I still disagree. A game like ARMS was not particularly funded by Mario Kart 8, but the team (and most definitely Nintendo) decided that porting Mario Kart 8 would be the first priority. It allowed them to get used to the hardware.

Now, compare that to Metroid. Other M was an outsourced team. Federation Force was Next Level. Samus Returns was an outsourced team. There is no growth of developers there and each game should not influence the next, especially when two of those weren't very good and would only hurt interest, not garner it.

Back to Mario U Deluxe. Nintendo EPD (though they never completely specified) was likely the brunt of the development force, which already made a brand new game for the platform, Super Mario Odyssey. And they developed Sushi Striker and Arms and Labo along with BOTW. There's too many factors to see if the capital actually helps out greenlight new projects. In the most likely scenario, it just helps give more capital to the company as a whole, so I guess it could factor in if you went through about ninety hoops.

If I am being fair, I do like your argument if it was a branch like Nintendo Software Technology. They ported Captain Toad to the Switch, which helps them get used to the technology, and gives them more credence to develop other titles. Maybe they'll finally make something that isn't Mario VS Donkey Kong lol

In the end, yes, I as a consumer am not forced to do anything. But I still want my purchasing decision to be solely the quality of the game. Everything besides that I'd rather not even be addressed as it should only be company knowledge, not PR.

I got a bit bored with SMBU back on Wii U, so this doesn't shock me too much. I imagine it might be off the top 10 by next week.

@Denoloco I get that but again, this game wasnt ported for those who owned it or played it on Wii U, this was made for those who never played it period, now the game itself is worth $60 if its your first time playing it, it also includes Luigi U, and new characters, I get it, some are not interested but bashing it? Its like we are complaining for having too many games.
I for one hope they keep porting, I want Metroid Prime Trilogy, I want Skyward Sword, Galaxy games, Mario Maker, Pikmin 3 on my Switch and many more.

yes! why that "value" is not universal... why an Indie is not a replacement game to the person "looking forward" to a big budget game on the Bus (Same as the reverse). Or old for someone "wishing" for big, shinny and new.

Someone wishing that the Switch get "Darksiders Compilation" AND "Darksiders 3" is not a crazy ask - It should have both - that will cover more gamers on Switch.

@electrolite77 Yeah, but everything PS4 gets was never "a thing" till one day a "Playstation" got it. like The Division in the past 2 years. Ubisoft invested time and money and came up with it one day. Or EA will try and make ANTHEM "a thing" for many years to come.

I can't remember a franchise out of the GameCube or Wii still going today that is not by Nintendo. There should have been a few by now. Ones you "Expect" on Nintendo hardware every gen.

True - I would not call it "a struggle" (completely blind to sales numbers if I did)... but it is disappointing. But even that shows of the "wanting" to have a reason to use the hardware. A win for Nintendo in itself.

Well, there is more money in re-making franchise that are/were popular. So more of a chance of hitting a pool of people who have played it.
