Re: Feature: Remembering Toys R Us, The '90s Gamer's Paradise

@AlphaElite I do! They had a wall full of little flaps that you could lift up to see the back of the box art, grab a ticket and pay for it, then take it to have some guy get it from the front storage area. That is also how I bought my Sega CD - they had a aisle-long glass display case with the game consoles in it, and you just grabbed a ticket to buy!

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Eevee Evolution Names: How To Evolve Eevee Into Umbreon, Espeon, Vaporeon, Jolteon, And Flareon

@PlywoodStick Ninantic certainly did go too long with letting the game be stagnant without adding content or other features. Everyone knew it the world conquering popularity upon launch would never last. But 5 million active daily users is still nothing to shake a stick at, and there's nothing wrong with NL posting an article (or reposting an old one with a few new lines of text). I'd venture there are more daily or semi-frequent Pokemon GO players on this site than people who bought Payday 2, for instance. Three articles in the last 50 posts is hardly intrusive and easily ignorable.

Re: The Nintendo Network and eShop Are Back to Life After a Festive Mishap

KissMyFlapjack

It's Christmas, and in a perfect world, everything would have ran smoothly yesterday. But the eShop went down and the networks on PS4 and Xbox Live were so bogged down, people shared screenshots of their systems taking up to three hours to download updates just to play. It's unfortunate but it happens.

At least the eShop was back up and running in the late afternoon so the day wasn't a total bust.

Pinball FX 3 is great. It was noted in the rundown above, but I wanted to make sure people know it also comes with three free tables under a promotion for this week. The add-on tables, especially the ones based on Universal Studio movies (ET, Jaws and Back to the Future) are really, really good.

Re: Review: Yooka-Laylee (Switch eShop)

@Julien A matter of opinion is saying , "Hey, I disagree with this review and here's why." Saying that they are possibly getting kickbacks for their reviews is not opinion but slanderous speculation and insulting to the reviewer who put time into playing and writing said review without any evidence or proof to back up their character and professional assassination.

Re: Review: Yooka-Laylee (Switch eShop)

It's disturbing to me that people are quick to insinuate that a positive review is given for unsavory reasons when it's all a matter of opinion. It's especially troubling when it comes from people who haven't even played the game themselves yet and going off of what other people have said. Everyone has an opinion, and just because a reviewer's opinion is different from yours doesn't mean they were paid off or given kickbacks for theirs.

Re: Review: WWE 2K18 (Switch)

KissMyFlapjack

I do like the new policy of giving a game a score with the possibility of revising it to reflect a future update that has already been announced by the developer. Unlike the uproar withholding a final score for NBA 2K18 caused, I think this will go over much better with many readers on the site.

From what I've seen, even the released version of WWE 2K18 needs some kind of patch for better performance. I was looking forward to it, but I will hold off on it for now.

On the other hand, am excited for The End is Nigh. Had my eye on this one for a long time - have a physical edition coming my way!

Re: WWE 2K18 Finally Arrives on Switch 'Starting December 6th'

What is the file size of the additional download if you buy the physical version? Is it comparable to how NBA 2K18 was with the cart being around 8GB in size and anything above that needing an sd card?

I still don't understand why 2K games take up so much memory for a save file, this one being 1GB and NBA being 5GB per user. Is it due to the replays it saves? I would rather have the option to not save them in order to not have such a big dent on the internal memory.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Makes Top 20 Debut in the UK Charts

KissMyFlapjack

The upside is that it's UK debut has been trending upward since the original. Xenoblade X launched better than the original, and Xenoblade 2 had a better launch than X. Problem is, JRPGs are a tough sell (as many have pointed out), and the UK is not Nintendo's strongest region by far. But it is still trending upward so that is a small amount of good news that should be of note.

Re: Review: Resident Evil Revelations Collection (Switch)

KissMyFlapjack

Looking forward to these. I would've preferred both to be on cartridges, but I'll still take it as I've yet to play Revelations 2 and, along with this review, have heard good things about it. I haven't played the original since its original 3DS release and it was one of the most impressive and ambitious games on that platform at the time, and am happy to give it another go.

Re: Soapbox: It Took Nintendo To Turn Me Into A Smartphone Gamer

KissMyFlapjack

I think the biggest problem that Nintendo has is that many people think mobile games should be equal to their console/handheld counterparts. Looking over the comment threads about Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and I've seen people requesting such extensive content that is normally reserved for the full console experience. Mobile games are meant to be shorter, bite-sized pieces of fun, and not a deep, long-term game that you'd get the same mileage out of as you would a Switch/3DS/Wii U version.

For what they are, I have enjoyed half of Nintendo's games so far - Super Mario Run and Pocket Camp have been great for me. I don't mind spending a small bit of money on F2P games if I really enjoy them as a way of supporting the developers since the game was actually free to download and start. They have been good to have on my phone to play on commutes when I didn't feel like bringing my actual Nintendo hardware with me. For what they are, I think the games have been great and have served a purpose to keep Nintendo's brand names out there in the public eye.

And if you don't like them, they are easy enough to ignore and won't detract from the enjoyment you already get out of the other console games.
