Re: Dead Cells Lead Designer Isn't Happy With "Abrupt" Decision To End Development

Kienda

Development has to end some time.

However.

Last year Evil Empire's CEO Steve Filby stated that the game will continue to be supported with new DLC until "at least the end of 2024".

Motion Twin have turned this man’s promise into a lie.

So, was he just saying that to get a few more Dead Cells sales knowing full well support was ending sooner? Or was he genuinely blindsided by MT?

Either way, it’s not a good look. Developers shouldn’t promise things that aren’t true. They need to stop acting like politicians.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Inazuma Eleven Strikers

Kienda

@Poodlestargenerica I was just meaning the number of strikers is 11 (as the title says) rather than the 29 on the Japanese box.

I think the English title looks better because it’s more prominent. The Japanese one has text above with the title at the bottom which is less bold.

Re: Van Gogh Museum Fires Four Employees Following Pokémon Collaboration

Kienda

It’s a tough one to judge.

I’m assuming the employees were involved in handing gifts to those in line and weren’t able to take any themselves. So they tried doing that. Or, maybe they were just greedy. We don’t know exactly.

I know that when the Wii came out there was a random ticket system at Toys R Us and it was almost impossible for people to get them. Luckily, I had a friend who worked there and he made sure to keep one back for me. Was it right to do that? Probably not, but his manager allowed it.

In terms of this kind of give away. They should do an event where you have to go to physically go to the exhibition in order to see the display and register to enter a raffle. Then they send you the freebies in the post. And then it won’t matter if you go on the first day or the tenth, you’ll have an equal and fair chance of getting the freebie.

Re: The Pokémon Company Releases Official Statement About Palworld

Kienda

@The-Chosen-one I’m not a big fan of mods personally, but I will defend modders.

If it’s a private modder then I feel they should be able to do what they like as long as they don’t profit from it.

My friend modded Final Fantasy 15 to have Noctis and co turned into random characters that included Luigi. It was not something I would do, but it was funny and imho should be legitimately fine. It doesn’t hurt the company.

Ash Ketchum in this is just a jibe at the whole similarity thing. It’s not going to affect Pokémon.

Re: Unity To Axe 25% Of Its Workforce As Part Of "Company Reset"

Kienda

Losing that many staff will surely have a negative impact. Devs seeing this will be thinking that future enhancements to the software will be impacted and customer/dev support etc. It makes Unity even less appealing.

The only winners are the shareholders who literally couldn’t care for this industry or company and are only in it for money.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Like To See More Streaming Media Apps On 'Switch 2'?

Kienda

@Spider-Kev I understand, on Netflix you can control what shows your children see using the website.

We are a Christian family so anything with vampires, monsters, Halloween etc. gets hidden by me so the kids don’t see it. And yes, some of the shows with agendas also.

There are lots of great shows, many older ones, so it’s actually not that hard to control it.

And just as YouTube is available now on Switch but your kids don’t have it. It’s fine to just not install the app. Having the app available doesn’t force you to use it but not having the app makes us who want it to either miss out or forces us to use alternative devices.

From my perspective, it would have saved me money instead of buying tablets which bring their own problems with mobile games etc.

Re: Random: Zelda Fan Creates An Explosive Godzilla Movie In Tears Of The Kingdom

Kienda

@SuntannedDuck2 yeah, we could edit anything, I suppose. But that Godzilla isn’t edited, it was created in game.

For me, BotW is easily in my top 5 games of all time. One of the reasons is that five years after the game was launched I was still seeing people pulling off amazing stunts or glitches. TotK goes beyond that. (Although I still prefer BotW to TotK).

Having a game be an RPG/Adventure game but allowing player freedom in a way few others offer is more groundbreaking than a solid RPG or action game with a good story and nice visuals. Imho.

Re: Random: Zelda Fan Creates An Explosive Godzilla Movie In Tears Of The Kingdom

Kienda

@Yoshif3 I get what you’re saying, but I still really enjoy the adventure elements of the game as well as the creative side. And I didn’t really delve into the creative side that much to be honest.

I think Baldurs Gate 3 will win. And I think it’s a worthy GOTY. But ToTK is my GOTY. These are players creating this content and it’s glorious. We will have even more creative things like this for years to come, just as we did with BotW.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Tops Another 'Greatest Games' List

Kienda

The whole top 100 list is off for me. Lots of amazing games not in it and the order is totally different to my own tastes.

However, Breath of the Wild probably is the best game of all time. In my humble opinion.

Nintendo should be proud of having three of the top four games, including the top spot.

Re: Disney Dreamlight Valley's 'Enchanted Adventure' Drops Tomorrow, Here Are The Patch Notes

Kienda

My daughter just started playing this on Xbox and is really enjoying it, so I’m glad to see the game is still receiving updates and seasonal content.

The great thing is this game has cross platform saves, so we can get it on Switch and her save carries between the two systems (and my Starfield time doesn’t get interrupted).

I wish more games had cross platform saves like this.

Re: New Nintendo Joystick Patent Could Spell The End For Future Drift Issues

Kienda

@Zyph I honestly can’t remember having many problems with controllers like I have with Switch. We have 3 Switches and 6 pairs of Joy-Cons. Each set has had a controller have drift.

In contrast, I’ve owned every console from Sega, Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft and hardly had any issues, a sticky trigger here and there, but nothing major. The only times they died was actual wear and tear or damage.

I agree with you though that the Wii and Wii U are among the most robust controllers. As a game collector I have bought numerous Wii bundles form people who have stored them in their garage for years with stuff spilled on them etc. And after a clean they have mostly worked like a charm.

@BTB20 I can assure you it’s not my treatment of controllers. I can’t speak for my children though… 😅

Re: New Nintendo Joystick Patent Could Spell The End For Future Drift Issues

Kienda

I mean, this technology sounds good and all, but it’s not needed to solve drift.

Remember, we’ve had non-drift sticks for 20+ years.

Nintendo just needs to not cheap out on the materials they are using in the future. They should have fixed this issue in all future joy-cons a year after launch, but here I am still sending newly bought joy-cons for repair in 2023…

Re: What Year Is It? A Brand New Rugrats Game Has Been Announced

Kienda

For some reason my brain created its own images for the game, giving flashbacks of the first person POV we get from inside Tommy’s eyes when he’s trying to walk in the intro to the series.

I think I’d have preferred a 3D monstrosity of Tommy’s wonky than another 2D platformer.

Re: Nintendo Switch Has Surpassed The Wii's Lifetime Sales In The US

Kienda

@chiefeagle02 interesting thought about number of households.

We have 3 Switches in my house (one each for me, son and daughter).

We only ever had one Wii and Wii U.

Consoles are different to handhelds and the Switch clearly bridges them both. But I would say that as kids me and my brothers all had our own Game Boys (+DS/3DS) but we shared consoles, so I think it’s a similar concept.

With the marketing of Nintendo (it’s prominent on kids TV), the increase of their brand recognition from the Mario Movie, all the social media kids consume these days, plus the fact friends can bring their Switch anywhere and introduce it to friends who haven’t got one. I’d say the Switch has a higher global impact/recognition than the Wii, although the Wii might have had a more cultural/revolutionary impact with its introduction to motion controls. I mean, even my grandparents played Wii at Christmas.

It’s an interesting thought when you consider which one reached the most people.

Re: Vampire Survivors Tops The Switch eShop Charts In US, UK & Japan

Kienda

I will never buy it… for I am a survivor of this game.

Having decided to ”try it out” on Xbox thanks to Game Pass, I know the nightmare this game is.

“Just one more run,” I would tell myself at 2am on a work night.

“I’m not addicted, you are,” I’d argue with my reflection in the mirror.

Needless to say my gaming/life balance got discombobulated for a week while this was installed on my Xbox. It had to go or I’d never have functioned properly again.

Re: Vampire Survivors Finally Comes To Switch This August With Couch Co-op

Kienda

I love/hate this game.

Played it on Game Pass. Thought it would suck, but ended up spending 40+ hours playing it with such an addiction that I was going to bed late and missing some sleep. So I deleted it and never installed again for fear it would take me again.

For anyone with self control, this game is great. And it will be a perfect fit for Switch.

Re: Just Dance 2024 Edition Brings The Party To Switch This October

Kienda

@Anti-Matter DDR is amazing. I still have my PS2 games and dancing mats that are used from time to time.

However, while I wish they would make more DDR games, Just Dance is the way forward unfortunately. You don’t need any special equipment to play. It’s more accessible for gamers. And so that’s why they will keep going this direction.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (DS)

Kienda

North America wins (imho). And without their crazy lawsuits we wouldn’t even have this fine game.

Europe’s actually looks like a sign post advert for a lawyer that you’d see on a US highway.

Japan’s looks like an advert for a TV show about lawyers.

I actually like all three.
