Back when The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was first released in May of this year, near enough any Ultrahand build was impressive in our eyes. Jets, mechs, musical instruments, basically anything more than four wheels stuck on a plank of wood and we were sold. But in the six months since, our tastes have matured.
You can't just shove any old Bokoblin-tracking canon in our faces and expect us to clap any more. Now, you have to go big. Something that really blows the lid off the potential of Ultrahand. Something like, we don't know, a fully-realised Godzilla movie created in-game...
You guessed it. It's happened. Zelda fan and Ultrahand wizard @sumoguri2323 has put Link's newfound abilities to the test and has managed to create not only a fully functional Kaiju monster and retaliatory tanks but also explosions, dust effects, camera angles and a roaring animation that quite frankly puts our Hover Bike Autobuild designs to shame.
The following movie (brought to our attention by IGN) really is one of those things that needs to be seen to be believed. In that case, we'll stop waffling on. Here's Godzilla attacking Lurelin Village built entirely in Tears of the Kingdom:
Now, look, we're not saying that this is the peak of all TOTK design and nothing will ever top that moment where the dust flies into the air and Godzilla roars. But we're also not not saying that.
Watching full movies created in TOTK feels one step away from a Fortnite-style world premiere that we'd rather not think about. But we're not going to turn our noses up at more crazy creativity like this. We doff our caps to you, @sumoguri2323.
What do you make of this Godzilla crossover? Would you like to see more films recreated in TOTK? Roar your thoughts in the comments below.

What am I doing with my life?
The fact people can even make this sort of content from the game proves why it should win Game of the Year.
No other RPG/Action game comes close to this level of creative freedom or use of physics.
THIS IS INCREDIBLE! Having just gotten TotK a month ago, I can say my Ultrahand builds are more akin to a 5 year old's recreation of the Mona Lisa
The new Godzilla movie slaps by the way.
@CaleBoi25 you’re already doing better than I can do, and I’ve had it since launch.
The ironic thing is that for an RPG/Action/Zelda game, all of its RPG/Action/Zelda elements are pretty mediocre.
If people wanted a creativity/physics game they would have gotten Minecraft, Roblox or Portal.
That’s why Baldur’s Gate should win GOTY… at least it knows what it is and doesn’t suffer from an identity crisis.
People often give points to the game for stuff that 10 or 20 YouTubers make, not how they played it. It’s like watching and saying “ahh that looks fun, unlike what I played”
Sure, they can build a huge EVA with 100s of hours in their hands… meanwhile 90% of its players finished the game with two fans, and a handle.
People never played Zelda, as a series, for its “creativity elements” for almost 40 years… it’s not its main appeal and neither should it be the reason why it could be a GOTY.
IMO
Now we just need a mechanized King Ghidorah. XD
I bet the Zelda creators are watching this with big fat smiles on their faces, they should be proud of their work seeing what people are creating within this game.
@Kienda couldnt agree more, the amount of freedom the game allows you in terms of roaming the overworld, underworld and sky, and the amount of creativity with its building mechanic and so many ways to approach fights, is quite remarkable.
Not a hardcore Godzilla fan but why use that shadow with everyone rating minus one extremely high?
The article is right. It really has to be seen to be believed. This would be my GOTY if I were picking.
This is the peak of all TOTK design.
Pretty cool they edited that together with builds.
TOTK is no Minecraft or other sandbox/game with a video making or creative mode to make scenarios happen in it like a Dreams/Little Big Planet/Mario Maker/Game Builder Garage, etc. So it's cool they edited that together with the pieces they could to make such constructs/contraptions.
It's not game of the year for something someone used their brain with to edit a video together.
I mean I could in Banjo Nuts and Bolts make a nonsense contraption. Who judged it for that versus a Banjo game because it has the Banjo name, it's not a typical platformer but a different type of game?
I could edit Baulder's Gate clips or do voice over over the characters if I wanted then what they 'actually' say. Not saying it's like an abridged with editing the mouth movements either just voicing over. It's not some anime abridged or some game mod (some people may have that) or Garry's Mod or other things to allow for that besides well when games have photo modes and such but still.
Not all get the assets and recontextual them (got them from the game in an emulator possibly or other means) they could but not everyone does.
But the cores of the games say different then a video people can edit together if they know how with the right aspects.
This is still cool though not denying.
@Yoshif3 I get what you’re saying, but I still really enjoy the adventure elements of the game as well as the creative side. And I didn’t really delve into the creative side that much to be honest.
I think Baldurs Gate 3 will win. And I think it’s a worthy GOTY. But ToTK is my GOTY. These are players creating this content and it’s glorious. We will have even more creative things like this for years to come, just as we did with BotW.
@SuntannedDuck2 yeah, we could edit anything, I suppose. But that Godzilla isn’t edited, it was created in game.
For me, BotW is easily in my top 5 games of all time. One of the reasons is that five years after the game was launched I was still seeing people pulling off amazing stunts or glitches. TotK goes beyond that. (Although I still prefer BotW to TotK).
Having a game be an RPG/Adventure game but allowing player freedom in a way few others offer is more groundbreaking than a solid RPG or action game with a good story and nice visuals. Imho.
@Yoshif3 No, Buggy Gate Broken Class 3 dont deserve GOTY. It's RPG elements suck, and it's a total buggy mess.
TOTK, or Wonder would make a much better GOTY.
@Kienda No, BG3 won't deserve GOTY. All it will show the industry is, that they can release a half baked, buggy mess and people will overlook it.
Okay, THAT was awesome. I'm a BIG fan of Godzilla (and even have my own idea for a Godzilla anime, as well as an American Mothra film), so this was a pretty faithful recreation of Godzilla rampaging through Tokyo.
That being said, given that this is made out of Zonai parts, I'd peg it as being more Mechagodzilla. Still, I would love to see this go up against the Demon Dragon from the end of the game. Let's see who can truly claim the title of King of the Monsters, once and for all.
That poor village just can't catch a break
1:17 - A true Godzilla fan on display. Excellent.
@AstroTheGamosian there is that new Godzilla movie, Minus One. People said its good apparently.
@anoyonmus I've heard that also. Although, what was going through my head when I saw this was the 2016 film Shin Godzilla, directed by Hideaki Anno (the creator of the hit anime franchise Neon Genesis Evangelion).
A little fun fact, Shin Godzilla was the first Godzilla movie to win the Japanese equivalent of an Academy Award. Of the 16 categories for that year, it was nominated for 11 and won 7 of them, those categories being:
1. Picture of the Year
2. Director of the Year
3. Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography
4. Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Direction
5. Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction
6. Outstanding Achievement in Sound Recording
7. Outstanding Achievement in Film Editing
Needless to say, it's one of my favorite Godzilla movies, in no small part due to its director (whom I am a fan of), and the fact that it swept the Japanese Academy Film Prize that year.
What in the world did I just see?
