Re: Poll: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD's Biggest Question - How Do You Pronounce Fi?

Kienda

I don’t think people understand that this poll is asking how YOU pronounce it.

It doesn’t matter how Nintendo say it. It doesn’t matter what the Japanese spelling is because all we are seeing is two letters, Fi, and there are a few ways to pronounce it in English.

Fai
Fee
Fih

That’s about it really. And whatever you settle on in your head is going to be how you pronounce it.

Personally, it is Fee. Even knowing the truth, I’m still staying Fee in my head because that’s what feels right to me.

Just like Wii is not Why.
Mario is not Mar-eye-oh.
Wind is not W-eye-nd (unless you’re winding something)
And Fiona is not F-eye-ona
Etc.

(That’s how my brain processes it at least)

This was made complicated by the translators renaming her outside Japan and dropping an ‘a’. And even if they did that we would now have a poll questioning if it was Fai or Fay.

Re: Level-5's Mech-Battle RPG Is Coming This November, Only In Japan

Kienda

@HefHughner Level 5 probably saw everyone being offended by everything in the West (at least, that’s how certain groups display the world online) and thought to themselves, “Well, Japan cut itself off from foreigners for hundreds of years before and that worked out okay. Maybe we should do that again so we don’t have to deal with that nonsense.”

I mean, it was probably for financial reasons or just them not wanting the hassle of localisation, but I dunno, I kinda like there being some old fashioned Japanese game developers left but I also wanna play their games in English so it’s tough.

Re: Random: Football Manager Jose Mourhino Calls Fortnite A "Nightmare" Game

Kienda

Fortnite is actually a good game (not my cup of tea but playing in short bursts with my kids is fun) but it’s the in thing right now to bleep on it from a great height.

Morinho is right though, some people are addicted to it and you shouldn’t be playing it until 5am when you have work (a football match) the next day. No wonder he hates it.

Re: Soapbox: Space Jam 2 Is A Video Game Cash-In That Doesn't Quite Get It Right

Kienda

@BloodNinja to be fair NintendoLife is a video game site and they report on things related to games, whether they be people doing fun things outside of games or celebrities talking about games or whatever.

SpaceJam 2 is a movie about video games and it features Nintendo (the Gameboy). Also Fortnite has Lebron and his Tune Squad jersey in it which is available on Switch so there are connections to Nintendo/The Switch.

I’m all for movie review on this site as long as they have connections to franchises and themes of the site. And this matches that.

Re: Dotemu 'Apologise Unreservedly' As Streets Of Rage 4 DLC Is Unavailable On Switch

Kienda

@0nett being abusive/aggressive is uncalled for. You may disagree with Znake’s opinion but you don’t have to attack them. They aren’t attacking you directly but just venting their frustration at what they perceive to be neglect for Switch gamers which happens with some developers.

@Znake I think you might be off the mark slightly with this one. While it might be the developers fault (they may have misjudged how long the approval process takes) it could equally be Nintendo’s fault. All we know is it is out of the developers control right now and they are disappointed with the outcome as it seems they wanted to treat all parties equally and fair play to them for that. It just didn’t work out this time.

Re: Feature: Remembering Robin Williams On What Would Have Been His 70th Birthday

Kienda

When I found out that Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda and that he played games, it was one of those moments that helped make me realise that being a gamer was actually cool.

Before that I always thought I was a bit of a sad loner with a hobby I loved but that most didn’t understand. It was because I respected Robin so much as an actor/comedian that I was encouraged by his love for games. And when I had people tell me games were uncool I would respond, “well Robin Williams plays games and even named his daughter Zelda.”

Nowadays gaming is accepted in broader society and there are tons of famous people who game. But it was people like him who helped me connect to my hobby and feel good about myself. Thanks Robin.

Re: Video: Yuji Naka Actually Made This Hidden Gem During The Wii Generation

Kienda

@Zebetite I actually disagree. And I think a lot of the upvotes are from people who don’t know what Sonic Team have made in the past.

Barring Sonic, Sonic Team have made…

Nights into Dreams (masterpiece of its time that brought with it the analog stick)

Phantasy Star Online (another amazing game that brought a real online multiplier RPG experience to consoles for the first time)

Burning Rangers (A true hidden gem that has a meta critic score of 90 and deserves a remake or even a retro version of the original)

Chu Chu Rocket (Again an amazing puzzle game with wildly fun multiplayer)

Puyo Puyo (Still going strong as the second most popular puzzler next to Tetris)

That’s on top of all the Sonic games, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg and other games like that. Yeah, they aren’t as great a developer as some others out there but to discredit all their work when they brought us unique titles that helped shape former generations is too harsh on the studio.

Re: McDonald's UK Plans To Restrict Pokémon Happy Meal Toy Purchases

Kienda

I hate the selfish so and so’s who scalp these.

Took my kids to McDonalds last time they had these and had both kids disappointed because they ran out of Pokémon toys within the first week because adults came in and bought 30 at a time (no meals, just toys according to store manager).

You can scalp my PS5 but if you steal my kids Happy Meal toys - I WILL FIGHT YOU!

Re: Store Your SNES Games In Style With These Rather Fetching Book-Like Cases

Kienda

I’d prefer it if they showcased the game.

The could easily design them to protect the game and fit nicely on a bookshelf, but also show it inside the case through a window.

They could also provide side titles for you to print off, cut and slide into the side (without looking tacky) so you can see what game is on the shelf.

Maybe I’m asking too much, but I wouldn’t spend this much for something that neither showcased the game nor stands out on my game shelf.

Re: Can You Name All This Nintendo Hardware?

Kienda

I will accept my 6/20 score with humble pride. I am not a details person and this proves it.

Some of them I was kicking myself for getting wrong when it was so obvious after seeing the zoomed out photo. Others I just didn’t know at all.

Fun quiz. Thanks NintendoLife.
