Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Pokémon 30th Anniversary Edition

JumpingJackson

I'm not a massive fan of the later Pokemon designs. A lot of them scream (to me) 'good God, we're running out of ideas'. As such, the later box arts look like overly-busy messes.

In contrast, the first 2/3 generations look clean and I think would stand out on a shelf next to it's contemporaries, much like they've jumped out at me in this list.

Obligatory reminders: 'each to their own' and 'my feedback on current Pokemon isn't a comment on you the individual'.

Re: Review: Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition (Switch 2) - A Solid Port With Plenty Of Extra Content, And Bugs

Fallout 4 felt like eating McDonalds. Nice at the time but left me with a feeling of emptiness and unfulfilled-ness during post-completion reflection.

I genuinely remember finishing the game and thinking to myself ‘why do I not feel the same as when I completed 3 and Vegas?’

But for those that have never played it before, and will be doing so now, I hope you have a lot of fun with it. There are some wonderful set pieces in it.

@AnonyQ it was alright. Some reviews made it sound like the second coming of Christ and I didn’t get it. But to be fair to them, a lot of people talk super highly of Mario World, how it’s the best in the series, and I can’t see what’s much different from that and the other Mario games other than power ups.

Again, that’s not to say I’ve not enjoyed them.

Re: Pokémon Lego Sets Are Already Being Sold On eBay For Stupid Money

Scalpers, and the people that buy from them, are different sides of the same annoying coin.

I long ago developed patience or a sense of ‘not missing out’ if I didn’t get my expensive piece of plastic twaddle (and speaking as a fan of twaddle*, that’s what it is no matter how we dress it up). I say this as an Amiibo owner, and a Sonic Generations special edition statue owner.

*or tat if you prefer.

Edit: take the money you were going to spend on this. Put it in a savings account / ISA / S&S ISA, forget about it for a few years, and come back to spend it on something memorable and non-scalpy. Do it every time and watch it build. This is un-requested, un-trained financial advice.

Re: Nintendo Reveals First New Joy-Con 2 Colours For Switch 2

JumpingJackson

@The_Nintendo_Expat I hadn't heard of that no, or perhaps I have (because I remember looking at the announcement of new Steam stuff) and just forgot. I'll look again. I like the term 'slack armed gaming' as well.

The waggle mechanics on Wii were so much more frustrating because you went from an even more relaxed position that normal, to furiously stroking off the air, before returning to gaming-rest.

Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Performs Admirably In Its Last Christmas Push

JumpingJackson

Other than people mockingly writing ‘here come the Nintendoomed crowd’, who is actually saying this on here?

I’ve read reasoned suggestions and debate on the price of games and how this might affect moving forwards, but the only childish text I’ve read here appears to be those waiting for something not to happen. A little like those that are afraid of migrants for … being told they should be afraid.

As @Lastfootnote wrote* I want Nintendo to do well also. I want them have the confidence to experiment so we get classics like Majoras Mask, but they seem to be going through a few growing pains at the moment as they go through this sustained period of success.

*In another comment thread they wrote “But I want them to succeed by offering good value. If they’re going to continue raising prices and retiring loyalty programs like gold points, they deserve to fail a bit.”

@BaldB3lper78 I watched some of one the other day, over 90 minutes waffling on about the minutest of detail. It is tech ***** at its finest.

I remember articles talking about how ray tracing will let you see your real time reflection (this was for Spiderman PS5) and I couldn't help but think 'who is playing a Spiderman game, and bothered about reflections?"

From a corporate level, it feels like those that wanted to sell you TV's to convince people they needed to get the newest, smartest, 4Kest TV have now moved on to graphics cards, frame rates, and the like.
