Re: Digital Foundry Dives Into Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition's "Big Downgrades" On Switch 2

JumpingJackson

@BaldB3lper78 I watched some of one the other day, over 90 minutes waffling on about the minutest of detail. It is tech ***** at its finest.

I remember articles talking about how ray tracing will let you see your real time reflection (this was for Spiderman PS5) and I couldn't help but think 'who is playing a Spiderman game, and bothered about reflections?"

From a corporate level, it feels like those that wanted to sell you TV's to convince people they needed to get the newest, smartest, 4Kest TV have now moved on to graphics cards, frame rates, and the like.

Re: Surprise! Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Is Available Now On Switch & Switch 2

JumpingJackson

I always find releasing these old games quite strange. I remember back in the Wii era the common idea seemed to be that people 'Wii60'd' that Is, had a Wii for the Nintendo / top tier motion control games, and had a 360 (or PS3 I guess) for the third party stuff.

So I find it baffling sometimes that there is a market for these old games when surely they've already been purchased and played on other consoles.

Perhaps I'm just in a well-off-enough -to-buy-two-consoles bubble. The idea of the Switch / 2 being being the only console someone has is odd to me.

Edit to add: I have this game on the Xbox One/Series X and I really enjoyed my time with it and the two sequels. But not enjoyed it enough to desperately want it available while I'm on the move.

Re: Feature: How Mega Starmie Became The Internet's New Queer Icon

JumpingJackson

Saw the title, wondered if this would bring out the anti-LGBT crowd I ran into on PureXbox. The number of deleted comments I would suggest is the case.

I'm pleased about the Starmie. Those that would like something to unify around have it, those that don't can continue it being a make-believe starfish that can do more than sit on the beach looked at and poked by children.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment?

JumpingJackson

I’ve put not interested but if I where to get it it would be physical. The first game was ok, but very similar to Hyrule Warriors so I don’t think I need a third version of hack and slash. Plus I have no interest in the story. I was told what I needed to be told (poorly in my opinion) in the ToTK game. I’ve no interest in this prequel story. So: samey gameplay, a story I’m not interested in, might pick it up second hand / on sale in 5 years time.

Re: Surprise! Pikmin 4 Is Getting A Free Content Update On Switch Next Month

JumpingJackson

Pikmin 4 update wishlist continues to include:

Mission mode with beautiful environments (like P3) not the cave, cold fridge etc environments of the current game

Faster getting through dialogue boxes

Single player battles without the split screen.

It really irks me that they made these lovely environments, then you spend most of it in gloomy looking caves.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Play NES Games These Days?

JumpingJackson

I try and play, usually via emulation rather than get my NES down from the loft. I’ve got the NES mini. Sadly, whenever I open it I get bored / frustrated with 8-bit game design and move on to other things.

The one I can put up with is Super Mario 3, and even then I’ll go to the Allstars remake.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Increases Switch 2 Production To 25 Million Units For Year 1

JumpingJackson

Genuinely surprised given the consistent plethora of stock near me in the UK.

@LazyDaisy I used to be the same: Zelda and Mario. I’ve bounced off Mario hard. ToTK put me off any more games in that universe but I cross my fingers for the next time to grab me.

@Duncanballs the average Joe is probably oblivious which is a different kind of ‘don’t care’ to knowing what you’re getting in to.

@jfp Another child ‘doomed’ to the block list. Oh how it grows.

Re: Switch 2 Bundles Get A Surprise Price Drop At Select French Retailers

JumpingJackson

@Duncanballs Your point makes me think that there's no room for middle ground anymore. Comments are either winning the generation, or doomed to oblivion. (To be clear, I'm not saying you're saying either of those with your comment).

More likely similar to what you said: die hards have bought (in pretty good numbers for a launch machine), slowing down a bit as casuals are balking at the price / considering their other gaming options so the price ticks down a bit to bring them back in.

They certainly won't be doomed; price changes and bundles will see to that.

Re: Poll: Will You Play Resident Evil Requiem In First-Person Or Third-Person?

JumpingJackson

Not playing at all. But that's a comment on me not the game. When it comes to horror films / games I am a scaredy cat and keep away.

I got through Resi 4 because I had precise (Wii) aiming controls, and I got through Resi 1 because we had an Action Replay type thing for the Playstation, and I went from start to finish with a rocket launcher.

Zombies are a lot less scary when you can instantly turn them into bits.

Re: Opinion: Why Focus On Silksong's Difficulty When We Need To Talk About How Cute It is?

JumpingJackson

I’m tired of three things:

1. The difficulty in the game not being adjustable for those that like exploring / story and get no sense of gratification just from beating a boss.

2. Articles like this that say ‘why focus on difficulty when X’. Knowing full well people will rock up to talk about difficulty. Click bait.

3. The plethora of difficulty-philosophers these discussions bring out ‘its not about getting a reward, it’s about overcoming the self’ 🤮

Just put a difficulty slider in and have done with it. Everyone gets what they want. I can’t wait to see the same faces commenting that it should be difficult perk up to over-praise the next game that builds itself on accessibility. Weather vanes.

Re: Opinion: Metroid Prime 4 Reminds Me Of Gears 5, And It's Making Me Nervous

JumpingJackson

I keep thinking about that animation in the trailer (which admittedlyI’ve watched only once during the direct). The way the bike did a power slide looked awful, as if the bike and surface were two separate things. As others have commented, this seems quite poor for 8 years worth of development time.

Makes you rethink whether it was actually a kindness for Xbox to bin off that Perfect Dark game, if 8 years of troubled development time is anything to go by.

But, the proof will be in the pudding.

Re: Review: Hollow Knight: Silksong - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Woven To Brutal Perfection

JumpingJackson

@xmkbest Fully agree, and it's not just the difficulty but the ag it weaves in. Benchs far away from bosses. I've just had another moment where an NPC does something for you for free, and then tells you he can do it again if you bring him more stuff. I've done that, and he now wants money for it after spending all that money elsewhere because I didn't think I'd need it.

On its own, that doesn't sound like a lot, but piled on top of other things, it just brings it down from that perfect game. And, has as been said over and over, the difficulty is great for those that want it. But for people like me that like the art style, the movement, discovering the story, it would be nice to make it a little easier so I can crack on and enjoy it, and the must-be-super-difficult crowd can have it there way.

The latest patch that released and dropped the damage done by some enemies: what about those players that don't want the damage reduced?

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 For Switch?

JumpingJackson

I've written before about how I think my time with Mario is over. I've bought all the games but Odyssey left me with a strange feeling. I bought the 3D Allstars pack, haven't finished any of the games and realised that I'm not really enjoying 3D Mario games anymore.

And now with this I'm thinking back to Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii. I bought it as soon as I saw it (along with that weird VHS) and I don't recall ever finishing it. There's a chance I've got it from the WiiU eShop as well.

So no, this isn't for me.

But I hold on to hope that they do something to pull me back in.

Re: Nintendo Direct September 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

JumpingJackson

That drift on the Samus bike looked like something from the GameCube era. Just looked like one 3D model sliding across a representation of terrain. It didn’t feel like the two were connected.

@Ganon821 I felt like I had seen every game in that direct before, and in some cases felt like
I was watching the same game within the direct. Are people buying every new cosy crafting Animal Crossing / Stardew Valley -like?

Re: New Kirby amiibo Will Apparently Be Nintendo's "Most Expensive amiibo Ever"

JumpingJackson

These were, and should have remained, the cheapish novelty item you might pick up when you bought a game. Then of course the ‘Beanie Baby Effect’ happened, which of course has led Nintendo to this.

Anyone who believed that a shred of Iwata’s Nintendo still existed should hopefully see the writing on the wall. $50 for a chunk of plastic? Cut gaming content masquerading as DLC? Obscene game price hikes despite every earnings call being about how much they’re making? Gaming keycards? (admittedly ok with some)

They have become just like every other company - gaming and otherwise - squeezing everything they can out of their loyal customers and those weak-willed when it comes to shutting their wallet and saying ‘No’.

Before the direct I was hoping for a DK / Switch 2 bundle, but the DLC, the Mario Galaxy greed, and now this has turned me off completely. They can, as my brother might say, “do one.”
